- We would love to tell you that the entirely new Mazda CX-90 is overpriced and overhyped. But then we'd be lying. We quite like it.

The engine sound on the PHEV 2.5 is not "fake" or artificial but is actually piped in intake noise via a sound tube into the cabin.
Is there a way to turn off the piped in noise? or block it, defeat it, or whatever?
@@kurtpenner2362 you can block it off if need be.
@@jmc6000 I'm curious to see exactly how that is done.
Holy sh……..that PHEV really moves. I haven’t been a fan of Mazda in quite a while since the “Zoom Zoom” and “323/626/929” days, b’c their lineup nomenclature and direction seem confusing. However, I like what they’ve done with the 3 and CX50, so that CX90 seems to up the ante from the mundane CX9. Cool review as always. 🔥
interior looks spectacular, especially the second one you all drove
I see a CX-90 in my future. Still undecided between the PHEV and Turbo S. Wish the top trim PHEV had the center console in the second row like the top trim Turbo S. I've owned a few Mazdas and love the brand.
I completely agree. If the PHEV had the rear center armrest/console and the tan interior it would be the perfect choice.
Nicely done. It's nice to see regular car enthusiast's reactions to a new car instead of pretentious "motoring journalists" who think what they're doing is actually important like exposing corruption, injustice or curing cancer.
Touching absolutely takes more attention than knob.
The turbo s has the lane keep assist button on the steering wheel. How good is that?
You buckled up before starting the car, right? Why the heck does it beep 7 times? What's the deal with Mazda? Why did they implement that? Mazda fans explain that please
i think the PHEV is the one to get. the inline 6 is cool but dont think its that much quicker.
This or Acura MDX?
For me this maybe! the Acura dash layout is too busy and looks cluttered. Drives nice though.
I watched reviews of cx60 and there also was an issue with the transmission acting very strange at times, it was in the phev version.
In the cx 60 phev under hard acceleration you can hear insane noises, like a turbo/supercharger whine on steroids, I am glad it doesnt appear to be present here.
Do you remember what was the fuel economy in the phev during your rather spirited test drive?
62 k for still mainstream brand plus higher interest rates thats going to cost ya.
At this rate of price increases on everything, the guillotines will be pulled out of storage sooner rather than later.
Around 24 mpg on the dash of the PHEV I believe.
@@DailyMotor thanks
I love it this is my first time watch this video and I subscribe to you. Now make me a big flavor make more cool video and also this time make fun and more information and I like how you got your buddy friends next beside you.
The $54k-ish question...CX90 the 54k trim (inline 6 or phev) or Kia Telluride sx prestige X Line or base Genesis GV80 or Lexus RX 350h?
How does the PHEV drive compared to Volvo XC90 T8 (also a PHEV)? Slower, but more spirited, more planted? How's the sound deadening compared to luxury-level cars? XC90 is not really that good in NVH (in the luxury segment).
If you push through the pedal kick-down switch while in manual mode, then it will upshift automatically.
I just test drove this thing today.
Great looking, soaks up road bumps pretty well for the wheel size. Also interior feels and looks great, although i did not get much time to play with the instrument cluster and infotainment.
With all the positives in mind, i noticed one big and one subjective flaw.
If you are taller than 6 foot (i am 6' 4"), i am pretty sure you will hate the driver seat. I also weigh 220 lbs, so not too bulky. The middle cluster to the door panel width is too narrow! There is no way to relax the legs a bit. It forces you to sit lets say properly and straight. Good for short trips, horrible for anything longer than 1 hr. This is a big bummer for me.
2nd, the top engine is too loud in the cabin especially when being aggressive with the pedal, and also it is not as torque rich as the spec claims. It will be hard to get better than say 6.5 second 0-60 on a regular basis, although i did not mesure it.
Anyways maybe it needs some breaking in.
The latter is bot that big of a deal to me personally, but the former is a deal breaker. Anyone else experience this?
Not going to be as boxy and roomy as a Telluride or Pilot but the diving experience should be superior. I've seen reviewers claim anywhere from 6 to mid 6's for 0-60 for the 3.3T which is only one second behind an X7 which is pushing at least 20 grand more with nice options. I'm 6ft tall. I'll be interested to check out the comfort in this, Mazda seats tend to be a bit on the firmer side.
No active lane keep on the loaded PHEV is definitely a head scratcher.
Just wait for comma ai to do the car port for cx90
I can personally attest that the CX90 PHEV on the premium plus model does have active lane assist. It is quite strong but works well.
lmaooo I love how dramatic Charles is 'cuz same
also he is hilarious wtf LMAO
Hope the Bay Area treated you guys well!
How can you say at 18:51 it’s lazy the transmission when he wasn’t even in sport mode… your supposed to use your sport mode when you about to floor! You will have much better response. I drive my CX-50 on 94 octane with regular use of sport mode when I need straight power on demand and boy is that thing ready. It’s a question of knowing how to properly use the car basically! I even get 10L/100km average combined (70% city) meanwhile everyone’s getting way worse and I believe it’s tied to simply again not making use of correct modes for intended situations. Someone back me here…
I agree...I just bought the CX90 PHEV (coming from a CX5) I love Mazdas and with this car in particular it's all about knowing which drive mode to use and when. I like that they give the option of using full EV for short trips, hybrid mode for average driving , and sport mode for when you really want to GO! There is also an off road mode that I haven't used much. Also Mazda has done an excellent job with the main electrical dash cluster in using color to help differentiate the drive mode you are in.
Hi there. Great video. Is the new Mazda quieter than the Hyundai Palisade? I know the Mazda is a PHEV and inherently more efficient, but Mazda touts this as a luxury vehicle.
Absolutely
And thanks!
23:00 to 23:20 look like your are in Norway or Finland
9:43 to 9:55 wow that was very dangerous if police see that your show video will be over but that will be bad. 🚫
Just get the Honda Pilot Elite for 55K, if not bought at dealer, and its better materials and more room with a V6... LOL
I test drove both back to back. The HP Elite does not use better materials and it’s lazy feeling, sluggish in comparison to the CX90 3.3 Turbo S. Plus it’s 6 miles to the gallon worse
Agreed. Honda has its strengths but fit and finish (materials), power, not to mention styling 😬 are no comparison vs the Mazdas.
Of course it's going to have a nicer luxury feel than a Honda Pilot TrailSport. This competes more with the Acura MDX. That being said I'll save the extra year of car payments along with not having to use premium fuel for maximum performance along with more space, better AWD system and off road capability by going with the Pilot over this.
Pilot has it beat with space and the available off-road set up. It skimps on a lot of things though on the Trailsport.. No ventilated seats up front or back, no Bose sound system, no HUD, no full digital cluster, no bench seat or removeable middle seat, 9" touchscreen (fine but the 12" would look a lot better in a wide dash like this and the new accord has it). Only black leatherette option interior too on Trailsport. I've owned black leather seats on last three cars, time for a change, gets way too hot in the summer and looks so dark inside. Some more interior color options, a bigger screen and features on the trailsport and it would be a lot more enticing.
Its a 2024
For this money, the CX-90 needs some kind of autonomous driving. Very nice, but you are near BMW, and Mercedes territory in this price range.
Right!! Even hyundai has level 2 self driving
A nicely equipped X5 is pushing near 80k.
The car gives me old man vibes and Buick for some reason
The Mazda PHEV can only travel 25 miles in EV mode and all versions get 25 mpg combined. So the PHEV only saves you one gallon of gas per charge and in my area it costs as much to charge that massive battery as 1 gallon of gas. $4,000 to carry around a 700lb battery that saves you no money......no thanks. The Mazda PHEV is the most inefficient PHEV sold today.
