- What did Bertrand Russell Think About Buddhism and Christianity.
"My reason says that Gautam Buddha is certainly the greatest figure in the whole of human history, but although I am not part of any Christian congregation, although I have completely disassociated myself from Christian mythology, religion, theology, somewhere I cannot put Buddha above Christ. With my reason I understand, but as far as my feelings are concerned Jesus remains higher - and I know he is not." --Bertrand Russell.

Bertrand Russell, a towering figure of the 20th century, was renowned not only for his contributions to logic and analytic philosophy but also for his profound insights into society, ethics, and religion. His intellectual journey, marked by relentless questioning and a deep-seated skepticism of absolute truths, shaped a legacy that has invited both admiration and controversy. Russell’s ideas stretched across a vast spectrum of topics, yet his thoughts on religion, particularly his critiques and comparisons between Western religions and Eastern philosophies, offer a fascinating glimpse into his philosophical evolution.
Today's podcast episode aims to delve into Bertrand Russell's religious viewpoints with a specific focus on his reflections regarding Buddhism. It explores the alignment and contrasts between his lifelong skepticism towards traditional Western religious doctrines and his intellectual appreciation for Buddhist principles. As we navigate through Russell's philosophical inquiries and personal confessions, we uncover the nuanced ways in which Buddhist thought resonated with him-highlighting a unique philosophical kinship that transcended his usual critical disposition towards religion.
Russell's engagement with Buddhism is not widely documented compared to his critiques of Christianity and Western metaphysics; however, key moments and writings provide significant insights. Through his essays and personal reflections, Russell acknowledged the moral and philosophical depths of Buddhism, praising its ethical framework and its approach to suffering and attachment. His famous work, "Why I Am Not a Christian," lays the groundwork for understanding his disenchantment with organized religion and sets the stage for his affinity towards Buddhism’s practical and non-dogmatic approach.
In this exploration, we will trace Russell's theoretical alignment with Buddhist ideas against the backdrop of his broader philosophical undertakings and personal struggles with faith and reason. By juxtaposing his theoretical endorsements and personal inclinations, we aim to present a comprehensive view of how one of the greatest philosophers of the modern era navigated the complex landscape of religion and spirituality. This article not only revisits Russell's philosophical discourse on religion but also enriches our understanding of how Eastern philosophy influenced Western intellectual thought through the lens of a profoundly impactful thinker.
Comparing Jesus and Buddha is like Comparing wood and rock. Buddha never claim to be a god. He admits he was a humble human who reached the level of gods and that all beings can also do the same because we are all gods. God is everywhere and all around us. God is energy and vibrations that created the universe we are a part off.

Yes even great intellectuals cannot conquer their prejudices completely

The background music is strange and seems random. The video is extremely difficult to listen to with that music. Messaging is being derailed by the unspecified ambient music. Choosing music to underscore a video is important. If you don't know anything about music, that don't use any.
Thank you for your feedback regarding the background music in our video. We strive to enhance our content with elements that complement and enrich the viewing experience, but it seems this time the music choice may have been a distraction rather than an enhancement. I find pompous music disturbing.
I simply cannot understand why so many producers ruin their commentaries with stupid soundtracks, especially in a commentary that is meant to convey knowledge, not drama.
B.Russell is the most auto critical and sincere thinker that i ever read .
So good !!! but music so loud. Some music is to intense to think. I really appreciate what you do thank you very much❤
What has been taught by Buddha is the ultimate reality, but it can’t be attained otherwise the Mind which remains as a barrier in between thoughts and thoughtlessness. As far as the Christianity is concerned, Mind is considered as the be all of life and the prayer is the way of ultimate association with the reality of the universe. But on the contrary Buddha says
Mind is an illusion and it is to be erased off. Buddha teaches about spontaneous morality by self awareness and purification and vice versa Christianity teaches that it is to be taught and forced to be practiced.
Ultimately, both philosophically and empirically Buddhism is the best and scientific way of life in a practical world.
Wonderful presentation and channel!
I enjoy listening to how this explains a “VEIW” of religion. I belong to NO RELIGION… I take with me what makes me a better human being from every belief! Buddhism feeds my mind and emotions.
An intelligent one never be a Christian /religious
As mentioned, the music was far to loud and didn’t fit the theme. Couldn’t drop in. Maybe edit and share again. Thanks.
Same here. I stopped watching. Ruined by the soundtrack.
Many thanks, Sir, 🙏🙏🙏
Son, Father, Jesus, God, Buddha, Brahman, Tao, Allah, Savior, etc - all these are labels, concepts or mind constructs to express the undescribable eternal "True Nature" of everyone.
Even the phrase "True Nature" is also a futile label or concept to describe it, because "True Nature" cannot be understood, found or conceived by any a human or the human conscious mind - which is a limitation program that based on, or by thinking.
The "True Nature" is beyond words, thoughts, space-time, timeless and eternal. It is the "aliveness" of ALL, and it pervades the entire Universe - it is the fundamental to & of ALL things. Without which ALL things do not exist. 😊
True but humans have to realise it by themselves they need authorities because they know they are still childs innerly if not why they need prophets because they are scared, but sooner or later we must walk the path with or without all these weights.
True Nature is Dhamma
Buddhist philosophy is universal and eternal doubt it then look up Pattichcha samuppada often described as dependent origination
This is simply a fantastic presentation!
Thank you so much!

One has to reach the level of Jesus and Buddha before it judges them not only rationally .
The music makes this unwatchable.
This man thought reflects my view on religion. This man is right. 💯
Jesus once said I'm in father and the father is in me, what he meant was the Buddha the Father was within him and he was the reflection of the father Buddha, Buddha's dharmakaya is the moon and rest of us are reflection of him, all this happened due to Maya (illusion), one day we all will rise from this Maya (illusion), and we will sing the same song that Jesus sung, I'm in father and the father is in me 🙏
Look up 1A hidden meanings in the bible you’re welcome!
Wrong
Somebody wrote that Jesus said that😉
@@strongmind3881 Read the verse, John 14:11 🙂
@@Raj-sc8qs,
Your view is delusional according to Buddha Gautama. 😅😅😅
Why I'm not atheist.
Fantastic presentation and information.
I think Buddha and Jesus are connected. Buddha said 500 years after his passing away, Dhammapatirupa would come.
500 years after Buddha who shows up? Jesus! Jesus is the image of the moon in the water which people are looking at, not the moon.
Dhammapatirupa is literally an image that is like the Dhamma but not the real Dhamma, looks like gold but not gold.
Everyone is looking at Jesus as a savior, but miss the moon. They wait for their death rather than practice hard and attain true enlightenment.
Bible itself says humans are an “image of God”. A likeness, not the real deal.
So the Father is the real moon, son is the image.
Jesus is the image of the moon, Buddha’s teachings and hard practice is the moon.
Look to Buddha’s teachings and practice hard!
Jesus once said I'm in father and the father is in me, what he meant was the Buddha the Father was within him and he was the reflection of the father Buddha, Buddha's dharmakaya is the moon and rest of us are reflection of him, all this happened due to Maya (illusion), one day we all will rise from this Maya (illusion), and we will sing the same song that Jesus sung, I'm in father and the father is in me 🙏
Delusion or Avidya that you suffer from😂

When an individual has reach the so called Buddha.. an individual has enter Nirvarna... will never be born again to any realms... so it was impossible to say that Jesus depicted Buddha...
Buddhism is NOT a religion. It is simply a philosophy. To say otherwise is to ignore what the buddha said.
Religion is foolish on its face, anyway. The word of ANY human should be treated skeptically at best. Their track record on Truth is abysmal. YMMV, as always.
The Buddhists are so confused. They do not believe in God, but they believe God (Brahman) asked Gautma to teach... and now Buddhists call Buddha (both theravada and tibetan) Bhagwan (a Sanskrit word meaning God).
What about indigenous peoples
Brahman for Hindus is God... But Buddha Gautama refers Brahman as those who has reach enlightment... Everyone can become Brahman... Brahman not refering to God according to Buddha Gautama.. although the word Brahman may mean God in Hindus...
Buddhists just say you do not have to beleive in a central god to live a happy meaningful life
Buddha was 500-600 years before Jesus
We are all god in the flesh
Organized religion causes a lot of problems
They are belief systems and people fight over it
Always giving there own efforts credit to god mostly saying they couldn’t have done it without god or Jesus and that is simply false
Creation is love and the creator also gave us the free will to our own thoughts so we can choose love or evil
Light or darkness
Duality
It’s all about the middle path
Not to high or not to
Low
Middle
He doesn't belive in a god that controls all.
@padma9725 bhagwan is a Sanskrit word meaning God. Don't use the word if that is not what you mean. Buddhists are just like Christians. They both have deified a human into God.
Buddhists are so illogical. If you use the word "sky," you can't change the meaning of the word to refer to the ground. It is non sensical.
Tibetan Buddhists do not even believe there is a world or a person.
Now we are know that Jesus was a black man from Africa and so was his parents.Jacob's 12 tribes were blacks and Israel was a nation in Africa..The first bible was the Etopian bible..All thanks to the opening of the pandara box by Russian President Putin..
The 6th century pope couldn't accept the Messiah was a black man.
