The purpose of creation was for God to enjoy the particular pleasure of ever-increasing love. Within the trinity, the love is perfect, and therefore never increasing. God is love, and God therefore needs nothing more. He did not create us out of any sense of need, or He would not be God. He created us out of desire. For his good PLEASURE we are, and were created. The more we know Him, the more we love Him, and we will spend eternity getting to know Him more, and there will always be more to get to know. Hence, ever increasing love. But, He loves us with perfect love, so we get to taste that, too.
Author: 🖋 C.S. Lewis Format: 📻 Originally a series of radio broadcasts during World War II Sections: 📚 Divided into four parts: •"Right and Wrong as a Clue to the Meaning of the Universe" •"What Christians Believe" •"Christian Behavior" •"Beyond Personality: Or First Steps in the Doctrine of the Trinity" Main Themes: •Argues for the existence of a moral law as evidence for God's existence •Explores core beliefs of Christianity such as the existence of God, the divinity of Jesus Christ, and the importance of faith •Emphasizes "mere Christianity," common beliefs shared by different Christian denominations •Discusses Christian ethics and virtues like charity, chastity, and forgiveness •Addresses free will, the problem of evil, and the concept of redemption Audience: 🎯 Intended for both believers and skeptics, aiming to provide a rational basis for Christianity Legacy: 🌟 Widely regarded as a classic of Christian apologetics, influencing generations of readers with its logical arguments and insights into faith.
"Mere Christianity" is a book by C.S. Lewis that explores Christian doctrine and ethics. It's a classic work that has been influential for many readers, both Christians and non-Christians alike. Lewis presents his arguments for the existence of God, the nature of morality, and the essence of Christian faith in a clear and accessible manner. The book has been praised for its logical reasoning and thought-provoking insights, making it a valuable resource for anyone interested in understanding the fundamentals of Christianity.
Talking with the average college student today, compared to when men like Lewis taught, proves we've really dumbed ourselves way down. Way down... This is a deep, brilliant, collection of universal human thought and God.
I truly hope those who complain about this reading, realize they are missing the point of the book. Listen again and work hard to take your wants out, and ask God to help you grow in your walk with Jesus. I am on my third time through this reading and know that the points I disliked, have brought new intuition into my own walk with our Lord.🙏❤🙏
Allow Mere Christianity to encourage and go deeper with your Christian walk. Also i hope it will allow fence sitters to go and share the Gospel with those who haven't heard it.
Here, a great man speaks wise words. In 2024, there is not one leader who speaks wise words, yet there are many fools certain they will change the world. 🙄😇
Starting at 14:25 is why many people move through multiple denominations and sects. They want an experience that makes them feel elevated from mundane life they currently have.
Interesting listening in 2024 to him saying near the end of Chapter 4 (around 47 mins or so) "we can hardly imagine matter giving instructions". In the age of AI we have observed it. Not that it is aware.
this hits different now after hearing hitlers speeches in english or with subtitles. CS Lewis was talking about other Christians like they were children of the devil. instead of the actual children of the devil. weird.
Actually, psychoanalysis is diametrically opposed to Christianity. It replaces the salvation of sinful souls with the cure of sick minds. We are not sick men in need of a cure. We are dead men in need of life.
“It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.” Who can know they need a doctor unless the examine themselves and admit they need the cure. And also in accepting the cure, partaking in that cure.
God nor Christ would not want people with poor mental health to be deprived of medical treatment for their mental health anymore than medical treatment for any other illness.
@@wesbleess1586 What you are labeling mental health has nothing whatsoever to do with the medical field. What you, and your generation, call mental health, those of us who know the Truth call a sinful soul. The real Christ (not the fake christ of the soft cushy american cross) offers the cure for a sinful soul (what you falsely call poor mental health). Changing the salvation of sinful souls into the cure of sick minds is american idolatry. You would do well to repent, and stop preaching a false gospel.
The Psychological data used today in the US was gathered from the nazi regime during wwII. They did the work and the us adopted the information. Psychologists think Christian’s are stupid when we drop the truth about the Bible and scriptures are disregarded as if man are small god
@wesbleess1586 Both God and Christ want that treatment to be appropriate and helpful. If you know anything about the history of mental health treatment given to those in the most dire need you will know that it’s often not appropriate or helpful. I’ve advocated for men who are held in metal health wards and facilities, the “care” they are given is often neglect and abuse. Many (I’d dare say most) doctors have no faith, they cannot heal these people so they drug them enough to mask their symptoms or in to a stupor and lead them to live in the flesh while training them to get along in the world. Believers are supposed to be set apart from the world and worldly doctors can never teach a believer how to cope with the world hating them.
What does the part at the end mean where he mentions that we can only have a self when we give our self to Christ and that this is why Saints are all different? Would they not be the same if all are Christ or is it Christ acting through us, as he wants us to be? He also talks about how humans are unique but essential to the whole like the parts of a tree but about humans are unique considering God dwells in all of us? Thank you :)
He talks about that in The Screwtape Letters. He says it is one of the greatest paradoxes. God wants you to be like him, because he values your individuality. The only way you can truly ever be yourself is to give it to God.
“This book is dedicated to all the useful idiots out there who made our victory possible. Especially those of you who weren’t even aware of the fact we were using you all along, for you proved to be the most useful idiots of them all. -Lord Nefarious”

The more we know Him, the more we love Him, and we will spend eternity getting to know Him more, and there will always be more to get to know. Hence, ever increasing love. But, He loves us with perfect love, so we get to taste that, too.

Lewis is the most intellectually honest and "based" Christian existential thinker ever to describe mankind's plight versus Gods worldview!
I love to listen to this wisdom, it makes me happy. If only people could hear this before they reject it just for its title.
What Lewis said about salvation beginning at 3hour 30 minutes is very wise

Lewis never gets old
Delicious reading/listening. So well articulated.
Explanation of 😊 Free Will & l good and evil at 1:16 minutes mark is fantastic !!🎉
Talking with the average college student today, compared to when men like Lewis taught, proves we've really dumbed ourselves way down. Way down...
This is a deep, brilliant, collection of universal human thought and God.
People who are "College educated" today may as well be considered braindead 70 years ago.
There are places in this recording where words, even sentences, are skipped or dropped from the recording.
yeh i noticed that 🧐
I am going to see if I can cross reference the book. I noticed as well.
I enjoyed this
Here, a great man speaks wise words. In 2024, there is not one leader who speaks wise words, yet there are many fools certain they will change the world. 🙄😇

Shout out to the Bible
Fascinating
Starting at 14:25 is why many people move through multiple denominations and sects. They want an experience that makes them feel elevated from mundane life they currently have.
Saved to read later already a Christian jesus believer but would like to read it❤
Be aware. Im following along with the book and there have been paragraphs chopped off at the beginning of some chapters.
*edited for grammar mistakes.
Pls God i ask for help. U promised to help when i seek u. Pls help me
🙏🙏
Interesting listening in 2024 to him saying near the end of Chapter 4 (around 47 mins or so) "we can hardly imagine matter giving instructions". In the age of AI we have observed it. Not that it is aware.
Thank you ❤
Thanks to Jaufre for taking a break from cloud ruler temple to read us some Lewis.
Thank you! Nobody else mentioned that it was him. I thought i was going crazy.

Thank you
Also, thank you.
Do good unto others, be kind to yourself.
This is what u 2 be should be about. Posting Truth instead of censorship of Christian conservatives.
this hits different now after hearing hitlers speeches in english or with subtitles. CS Lewis was talking about other Christians like they were children of the devil. instead of the actual children of the devil. weird.

Reading the book is better, IMHO.
Reading is better but listening is better than nothing. My town shuts down at 7pm and I don’t remember to buy books until it’s too late lol.
@@MatthewZelek-iv8tb I do love listening to the Bible read by Alexander Scourby, check it out, you'll love it.

15:17 Ch 1: Law of Human Nature
Starts 15:08
Bro sounds like Jauffre from Oblivion
Especially those of you who weren’t even aware of the fact we were using you all along, for you proved to be the most useful idiots of them all.

there is profound truth in all 3 ‘books’
@@CleopatrasNemesis The only truth can come from the ultimate truth. Jesus said, I am the truth, the way, and the life. The Quran is a mimic and a lie all wrapped up in a cultic vision.
Love Lewis, but why does ot skip around so much? Lots of text missing, also really annoying.

😮 I hear "the teaching of man in schools is man opposed to God's Holy Book. (about the planets-that is NO WHERE in that Book- read the creation model in Genesis 1). Also from this clip just after 1:19.19 (Genesis 6:9 says the "sons of God or angels took for themselves the daughter's of men"- it had everything to do with sex and the gene pool*) *extremely important to understand this, for of the last days, Jesus said, "as was in the days of Noah so will the last days to be"! Read what it says for yourself, not what you was taught in school and/or church Acts 17:11 ❤
