What is your opinion about Darksiders 2, and the series in general?
Ds1 and 2 were decent action adventure games. Ds3 broke on a boss for me and I gave up, it was too janky to play as well.
So far I think dark siders two is the best one in the series followed by number one in the number three I am currently playing through Genesis so I didn’t include it in the ranking if you like to then I would recommend you play through the rest of the series but they all take some different turns in the gameplay aspect Number one plays more like original god of war with the dungeons and puzzles included and number three plays more like dark souls and Genesis is more of a top down dungeon crawler in my opinion I think the different game place really work for each Horseman is represented in the game nevertheless I love this series and I am so happy I picked it up and it was on sale
Soundtrack for this game was on next level and voice actor did phenomenal job voicing kinslayer...love this game to death

I think it's unlikely they will make another. Such a shame cause there is still Strife's story to tell.

@narkomancers5262 Because the Darksiders 3 didn't sell well and generally the franchise has been slowly going downhill since the first game.
@narkomancers5262 I think you are correct but general consensus is that DS1 was the best out of the franchise, following by DS2 and DS3 being a major step-down. Also THQ said that DS2 despite selling 1.5 million copies "did not perform to our expectations." And DS3 sales were MUCH lower than expected as well so based on this I highly doubt they will make another.
it was fairly rated.. DS1 was pretty good for its time but aged pretty badly, DS2 was an ok to decent RPG and DS3 was really fucking weak, the definition of mediocre in videogame form. And genesis is just an okay ARPG, nothing special about it
Darksiders 2 is my favorite game in the series and one of my favorite games overall. You can tell that the developers poured their hearts into making it. It's a shame that it didn't sell well. I highly recommend you try the first game as well if you want more context to some things, like how the apocalypse started or the time travel aspect, which does kinda get explained.
The game is borderline unplayable without a FoV fix. The game's base 58 (!!!) FoV is motion sickness inducing. Not sure who the hell decided it should be this low. Probably a console limitation of some sort.
@@LukeR1M I disagree. I have no problems with the fov. Some of you guys like ridiculous wide fov, thay gives a fishbowl effect. THAT makes me motion sick

@@ShiftTheMatrixGaming If you don't see the issues that low FoV introduces then YOU are the one who doesn't know what you're talking about. Try playing on a higher difficulty and maybe you will understand why it's a problem.
A very limited field of view makes the game frustrating to play if you can't see and react to enemies constantly damaging and killing you off screen.
Some action games deal with it in a way so enemies CANNOT and WON'T attack you if they are off screen (DMC 5 for example). This is obviously not the case in Darksiders.
@@jmmywyf4lyf Having a motion sickness from low FoV is more of a subjective issue and frankly it's the least concerning one (See my comment above).
Also I don't like going overboard with FoV either. Usually playing at 90-100 while 110 being the maximum tolerable for me.
I never knew that THQ and Vigil went bankrupt because Darksiders 2 performed so poorly...
Seriously, life is just not fair. Darksiders 2 is one of the best games I've ever played and encapsulates the pinnacle of the 2004-2013 peak of gaming.

9:20 if I remember correctly that section takes place where the Corruption was withering that plane of hundreds of years and the mechanic sends you back to that place before Corruption even started. So technically Death could wait and prevent but it would take eternity to do so without guarantee of success.
11:20, thats true, while story of both games are almost simulatenously it might be a bit confusing why Death sacrificed himself but is apparently alive in the cutscene. It is because of start of DS 1 and the same scene at the ending. War was accused of starting the apocalypse, and only Charred Council can start it by breaking 7 special seals. War responded to seals being broken by going to Earth that started the war between heaven, hell and humanity just to discover that one of the seals was never broken - something faked the call of the seals and War was imprisoned. The ending of DS1 summons all 4 horsemen even if they are dead, reviving Death.
The story of DS3 also takes place roughly at the same time adding even more confusion and some of story elements are in the comic in game universe. Fortunately story of DS Genesis is unrelated prequel. Series is great in general, high production value even in DS3 that was produced at very limited budget. My favourite game from the series is probably the first one, DS2 had more agile gameplay and more interesting puzzles, but I didnt like the forced RPG elements and long travel sequences between areas even if backtracking is a feature in all 3 games for the hidden achievements and Abyss Armor parts.

I love the Darksiders series :-D. I bought every game at launch and I enjoyed every single one of them. Darksiders 3 is one of my most favorite Souls Likes. In my opinion it had the most intelligent use of shortcuts and level connections. At the moment I am playing Asterigos which I discovered in one of your preview videos for RPG's. I recommend playing it, I think it's amazing. Especially if someone is searching for a Souls Like with a great lore, story and characters.
My favorite track is the guardian fight... and crow father fight.
For me, this is a classic. I also listen to the soundtrack regularly

Darksider 2 is my childhood and I always come back to once a or two years.
Every time the flaws of the game becomes more clear such as no depth in combat and the horrible loot system but it’s always a fun adventure nonetheless.
I hope we finally get the 4 horsemen coop concept which they were first going for in Darksider 4 if it ever happens.

My top 3 favorite game of all time
As a long time fan of the Darksiders games, I find it really interesting to hear the thoughts of someone who sees all these things for the first time.
And although I'm a big fan of the games, I'm not blind to the many issues it has, and we all have different views and opinions about games so I'm not bothered if someone doesn't love the games. x)
Darksiders 3 was *so good* - really had fun with it.
Never played the other Darksiders games, but 2 looks good too. Problem is, I tried download it on Steam, but there are so many bugs even early on, shadow maps the pops into existence and disappears, and lots of graphical glitches. Sad because it looks really good.
I'd argue 3rd one was the worst of them all. I loved the franchise from the very first game, loved 2nd one even more, but the 3rd one I didn't like to the point of abandoning it halfway through... I dunno, it was more souls like, and I don't like that kind of games.
Definitely recommend you try again.
If you`ve enjoyed 3 then I highly reccomend you try out the other Darkisders games. 3 is probably the most controversial and weaker games if the franchise, and sinec you liked it (I did too) then you would probably enjoy the others much more.
Game was awesome. Ive played all of the Darksiders games, really hope we get the 4th eventually. Hard to rank them, I enjoyed them all.
Darksiders 2 was probably my first favorite games in the sense that it was so much cooler than everything else i have played
Darksiders 2 is the game that got me so interested in this series, and still my favourite entry. Darksiders one was extremely hevay on the EPIC aspect of its plot, I had fun, but didn`t enjoy it quite as much as 2. All the acting in the game sounds extremely good, but the Death`s VA did an Outstanding job. Death is quite a common character across all media, but I don`t think anythone ever captured it`s voice. Darksiders Death sounds exactly like he should sound. Same goes for Jesper Kyd`s soundtrack - the game sounds wonderfull and makes traveling the world enjoyable, when otherwise it would have been tedious in some places. I love to listen to the OST just because it sounds so good (same as Genesis OST).
The game might be a little drawn out, I think some dungeons could have been cut for sure, but the game is colorful, uses the style to its full advantage, has killer soundrack, voice acting and atmosphere, awesome combat and boss design, and a simple but emotional story to boot. It`s an awesome game, and Darksiders as a whole is such a great franchise of games, I love them.
Also, the second game had a prequel novel The Abomination Vault coming out to promote it, and I loved that novel to bits. Somehow the writer perfectly captured the combat and translated it into writing, the book has a good main mystery for it`s plot and it gets quite dark and emotional later on, but it`s main selling point is character dialogue and interactions. The book has Strife and Fury featured for the first time in the series, there are a lot of familiar sidecharacters present (like Crowfather), the book features a lot of worldbuilding of Heaven and Hell, there is tons of great War and Death dialogue, and
And
HORSE (and Dust) INTERACTIONS! There are tons of those, and they are super well done, and adorable at times. Horses don`t really get much love in this series featuring...horsemen... aside from Ruin, other horse are treated mostly like transportation means, but the book has none of that. All the horsemen have special bond with their steeds, the horses have their own character and even act on their riders` behalf.
If you`re a fan of the series, I highly reccomend you check out the book, it`s great and I had a great time reading it, and I love to come back to reread it too (I am a weirdo). (fun addition: you can have the game OST playing in the background whole reading the book, according to the location the riders are in - for ex. The Crystal Spire for when the horsemen traverse Heaven). Also, while Death feels like the leader of the Horsemen and is protective of his brothers and sister, there are reasons he is so worried about War particularly in 2...not gonna say any more on that.
p.s. played the disk version on x360 and Deathinitive on ps4 - never had any crashes. I didn`t even know that was a problem for the game
the RPG elements like gear and stats make the game worse in my opinion. Don`t get me wrong, all the armor and weapons have cool designs, and it`s nice to find a specific weapon with extra ability and carrry it to the late game, but I had much, much more fun just using the gear with auto-scaling (and it suits Death much more in my opinion), or just using the Abyss armor
The camera give you trouble in encounters, especially since the game loves Death vs. crowd fights, but it is pretty managable, and some abilities are pretty broken even in Deathinitive (awesome name btw), but camera works very well in boss fights.
Personally, I hated the Earth level because I did not want to use the gun - it was very clanky and it controls like through an additional layer of mud, so this level gave me actual hell, since the enemies in the area have 1408 times buffed HP compared to their counterparts. Also, it takes away dodging - the simple but most satisfying mechanic in the entire game.
I don`t reccomend the DLC areas. They were made on a tigher budget and it r e a l l y shows. The best part of the game is the main game.

Darksiders 2 (the best of the franchise and it`s spirit perfectly captured, best ost)
Darksiders Genesis (a new take on the franchise that fits it perfectly and captures the spirit of the games perfectly, second best ost)
Darksiders (a great game, it just didn`t stick with me as much as the others, very epic and tone heavy, horse levels are great, and the epilogue is the dream of a series fan)
Darksiders 3 (a good game, but gameplay, tone and story are all over the place, there is no horse(, still fun though)

Play the Sorcerer build. You'll feel meaningful improvement with each upgrade. To the point of imbalance. Also you didn't manage to hit the sweet spot when doing combos, it will greatly improve the damage

This is my "gaming comfort food". I've played this a few times, and each time I can put in like 60 hours into it- because I finish the game, and then I gotta do NG+ to unlock the second half of the Crucible- because that's how you get the best gear set (abyssal armor). I dunno what it is about this game- maybe it's the fact that Death reminds me so much of Raziel from the Legacy of Kain, which is my favourite series of all time, haha.
Darksiders series has a pretty huge enemy roster, compared to most other action games. And I'm not really big on action RPG loot-driven games- but using the possesses weapons to get the best attributes of multiple weapons to craft a super-weapon mechanic in this game was *really* satisfying.
Darksiders 1 feels even more linear, and much more focused on being a 3D Gothic Zelda-like; Darksiders II really expanded the formula with all the loot, skill trees, and A LOT more Prince of persia-style platforming- War is way more focused on gargets than platforming.
Darksiders III (made by the people from the other half of Vigil, who formed Gunfire Games), feels more like a Souls game. Except there's no stamina, minimal gear, and the combat revolves around doing the Bayonetta-esque "perfect dodge to slow down time and counter" mechanic. So basically, it's got very little of the "bones" of a souls-game, but because the healing, save system, currency, and upgrades are similar, everyone made sure to compare the game to Dark Souls. It's nowhere near as puzzle-heavy (except maybe the last areas, once you get all 4 of your elemental abilities), but they also created an entire dungeon DLC that's based around using your elemental abilities as you aquire them to compensate for that. Imho, that DLC was a good addition to the game, but if you don't like puzzles, ymmv.
Genesis is also pretty neat. Playable in co-op, since I know you appreciate games that do that.

I have been a big fan of the Darksiders series since the first one came out. Darksiders 2, for me, is the best in the series.
I Love this game, Loot, open-world linearity, art, colors, setting, mechanics, VO. Truly rare game, im always looking for a "modern" copy to play( maybe biomutant). the 2000-mid2010 were the apex of gaming.(GGate was the downfall plus Dlc/mtx/constant patches/season passes/woke changed the industries "north star"). I just played Vanquish again and WOW I miss them days.
I have the first 3 games, 1 and 2 I must have gotten on Steam years ago and never played, and 3 I got as a Playstation+ member. This makes me want to try the games more than anything else I've seen. I never played it as I thought the combat looked a bit unexciting, but playing a game and watching gameplay can't always translate how much I'll actually enjoy it. Samurai Warriors 4 was so very enjoyable to play but if I watched gameplay, I doubt I'd have anticipated all the good feelings that I felt playing it.
Demons having inverted wings is upsetting my aesthetics. I want to give disdainful glares at the people responsible for that. Make my contempt for this specific decision known.

As someone whose playing through all current games at the moment, I can confidently say the cutscenes of the first 2 Darksiders games A
Quality examples as to why i'll always prefer animation by hand over motion-capture rigs in 3d games, even if one is significantly harder.
The camera work and stylization help,
but it's all the little details in expression and body language that really sell the cakes.
Great game! I played no ps3, then i buy it for ps4 and i'm very proud with my Platinum on ps4!!! (saddly when i played on ps3,The servers have already been shut down, so I'm only missing a few trophies there!)

The first game is amazing. It has less RPG elements but it's my favorite of the series (it's the son of God of War and Zelda with references of other games)

Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition for the PC has the unfortunate bug of consistently crashing whenever I would progressive far enough in NG+ due to the save file surpassing a certain file size. This sucked tremendously, because I would never be able to complete the 100 floors of the Crucible and finish collecting the last Abyssal armor piece.
Back then i have chosen Amalur and SKyrim and Dark Messiah over playing this. THen i replayed them over this. Then i replayed them over this...
Shoud i finally give Darksiders another go? Or should i replay other gems again and again? ;-)

I think visiting the other games in the franchise might be pretty interesting, because they all kind of have their own subgenre.
For instance, Dark Siders 2 is the only game to incorporate heavy looter and RPG elements. Dark Siders 1 by contrast is more of a traditional hack&slash (though still with puzzle and platforming elements) and Darksiders 3 is actually more of a souls-like in how the combat works (also, when you play Darksiders 3, it'll give you the choice between new and classic combat mechanics. If you don't want to hate your life, go for the classic ones, they let you animation-cancel and are a lot more responsive in general, although they do make the game quite a bit easier). Then there's Genesis which is very obviously different in a lot of ways, starting with the fact it's isometric.
Still holding out for a Darksiders 4 though. Strife is a fun character and really could do with a full game of his own.

Genesis is literally in no way similar to Diablo in any way what so ever, the only reason why people are saying it's like diablo is because of the isometric camera, which is absolutely stupid, and anyone's who actually played it can tell you that right from the get go.

2: either genisis or 2 I like them both a lot and can’t decide wich goes in 2nd so they both go 2nd

I know some say Jesper Kyd's best score is the Assassin's Creed ones, but for me, DS2 is the best score he did.
The game look like Devil May Cry and God of War series, but using Diablo 2 loot system. God of War vs War ( Darksiders ), I realy love the 1st game and miss it.

my issue with darksiders 2 was diablo-like loot system. I hate it. it doesn't matter how great a game is if I am distracted every minute by colorful loot that I have to sort out and reequip the best stuff

1 2 and 3 are great but only 1 was able to hold me untill the end. 2 and 3 dropped me somewhere in 3/4 of the game for some reason.
It's a shame it didn't sell well right away. It's an amazing game, I see it basically as Zelda for adults. I have the first 2 for 360 and the third I got free with gold from Xbox one but haven't really gotten into it. I'm not really a fan of Fury and her whip playstyle. I wish it would have starred Strife I believe is his name? Can't remember but it would have been a nice spin on the game to make it a shooter with melee mechanics too. The top down game was disappointing to say the least imo. It should have been a fully fleshed out game like the others.

A bit of a spoiler for the first game but the total different gameplay when you reached Earth is actually a callback to the first game having multiple gameplay mechanics like NieR Automata or Bayonetta if you've played any of those two before.

The reaper form didnt do that much endgame cause it scales of arcane and i assume you went physical. You didnt talk about possessed weapons basically weapons that you feed them other weapons and you can give them the stats you want. Also the crucible i would recommend to beat all the floors.It has new game plus you didnt talk about it
In the first game war was accused of starting the apocalypse before the humans were ready. He was captured and imprisoned by the council for 100 years. After 100 years, War with a watcher (voiced by Mark Hamill) is sent to earth to redeem himself by rooting out all that participate in the conspiracy to end humanity. War kills Abaddon, the main responsible for starting the apocalypse by breaking all the seals, starting the war and then asking Utane to reforge the 7th seal. At the end of the game the watcher is about to kill war when Uriel kills War and breaks the 7th seal resurrecting war. War then is about to depart to punish the consul when Uriel asks him if he will wage a war alone, he says no along pointing to the sky where his brothers are about to arrive to earth due to the break of the 7th seal. Darksiders 2 takes place 100 years before the first game when war was imprisoned.

You sound like alot of people when the game first came out. They felt the rpg mechanics were unnecessary and the puzzles were a bit too much. They also much preferred the more streamlined nature of the first game and the liked the 3rd game alot as well. I on the otherhand though D2 was amazing and the best game in the series hands down!
I also had a mixed feeling on this game. Love the combat but there is just too much puzzle and platforming and a lot of empty fields.
I like this game a lot, but I feel like a lot of the contents seem too much. I would've wished it was more contained like Darksiders 1. Death is my favorite so by far from design to mechanics. :D
Darksiders 1 is still my favorite. The reason is the loot system. In darksiders 1, it's more like edgy zelda clone. Everything you get is unique, and incrementally increase your power in organic ways. For example, Increasing health or attack power by collecting the "heart pieces" like in zelda. There is no level up, just you discover better gears and stuff.
In darksiders 2, the rpg elements are very tacked on, and i really dislike diablo style loot of all kind. Makes exploration unrewarding sometimes due to the RNG loot. In the end of each dungeon, there are usually chests with blue or purple tier loot, that sometimes are just redundant because you have legendary tier equipment that do more.
But the combat in DS 2 is better than DS1, but DS 2 feels like it had to artifically RPG'd itself too hard it loses the zelda charm DS1 had.
What was wrong with 3 its wasnt like two at all
this game is an experience by all means, the soundtrack, setting, acting, just the general feel and soul of the game. it is fitting that what it is about because as far as i am concerned it really does feel like a spiritual experience. which you would never expect to get from a game, let alone an action game.
maybe it sais some things when one of the medias of recent times that invoke a spiritual experience, is one where the protagonist is literally death. but maybe also, it could be no other way. in either case with the music and the feel of the game it feels enchanting
About 10 hrs in, fun game, great art style and voice overs the camera is bad and combat just okay. Just finished dragon's dogma bitterblack isle the combat in this game is outstanding so it makes it a hard to play darksiders 2 afterward.
this is the best RPG I've played in a long time, the art, the story(a bit cheesy) the lite RPG(some of the items are just gorgoues to look at) and the action... one of my disappointments with this video was that you didn't mention the obvious cuts that were made to the game, if you compare the last 2 sections to the first 2, you quickly notice that so much was cut from the last 2 zones, I played through this game a couple of months back, and through my how many hours of gameplay the last zone took 30-45 minutes, and it was possibly the byproduct of thq tanking, they pushed the game for release when they needed money, marketing was not done correctly or completely, and this game came out in the shadow of skyrim (so many people love that game)....

I played Darksiders just before announcement of Darksiders 2. I really liked it so I blindly jumped on board the second one. And I was not disappointed. D2 is great.
Unfortunately Darksiders 1 and 2 are the only games in the series worth playing. 3rd one was OK with great character, Fury is badass, but the rest of the game is mediocre.
Darksiders Genesis is a disaster and transgression to the whole series. Even including 3rd one.
Who on earth thought that tween stick shooter will do Darksiders justice? And of course it had to have co-op cause every game needs a co-op/multiplayer now a days.... 😒
After Darksiders 2 I wanted more games in the series. Now I wish they'd never pick that game up...
It's just a shame that they decided to make the third game a souls wannabe instead of more of this. I honestly wouldn't mind if Darksiders 3 had not been much different than Darksiders 2. I really do hope they finish off the series one day, maybe even make a genesis 2 with all of the horsemen at once. That would be nice.
I really dis enjoyed it, tho the story kinda drags...bit of pacing problems, but nevertheless, underrated game
The bugs ruin the game selling the game, if they make anymore get rid of the bugs

I liked darksiders 2 more than 1
But I don't like the top down shooter genesis and darksiders 3
Darksiders 2 is more adult zelda.
Ds1 and ds2 are cool games but puzzles aren't fun to me, i mainly want combat and because of that i don't like them that much
Darksiders 2 is still my favorite game of the series and I think it does alot right. I liked D3 as well and D1 was good but my least favorite. I liked the world, combat and story of D2 most. It was slow to gain success but I think over time it aged well and it grew on people.
I won’t judge you for starting your journey with the best game in the series. But the game has a fat “2” in its title. It’s not some obscure sequel. If you skip the first game, you are going to miss information and context. The game doesn’t owe you context. The context is in the first game, which you knowingly skipped.
I fk hated how slow the character run in the game.
Many developers dont want to understand how important is a sprint mode in a game, its like they never have played a fk game in their entire lives. 😒
Developers knew that puzzles and platforming been most criticized part of the first game, but still decided add even more in second. I can respect that developers want go they own way, but they ruined they own game and studio on prosess. Kinda sad, because i liked they artstyle and setting from first game.
Screw that, the puzzles and platforming were awesome
