Yeah, I do love Gothic 3 too. The most annoying Gothic 3 is the world theme. Gothic 1 and 2 have fantasy medieval age, and sadly Gothic have Europe Medieval Age.
I stll find it hilarious that in this DLC, the Nameless Hero is basically a genocidal maniac, since in every dialog he has, he's bassicaly telling death threats and being a overall tyrant
It's hilarious/extremely disturbing :p They managed to turn this lighthearted, easy-to-identify character into one of the biggest psychopaths in video game history.
I might be misremembering something, but didn't they only fixed that because they got paid? Back when Community Patch Team for G3 was still no profit they said that they don't plan patching Forsaken Gods because it was a crap, but later when right went to THQ Nordic they actually hired CPT so they can officially release their patches in newer releases. From what I remember CPT at the time got paid to fix Forsaken Gods because they were the only one who could do it.
Mad Vulture Games fixed it. The erena was totally broken out-of-the-box. There is a file optimizer tool, can't remember the name of it. Basically it reduces the # of data files .p01, p02 etc. Works awesome on G3. Don't use it with the content mods. You can't Uninstall after.
Imo the most hilarious part is when you go to the borders of Nordmar or the Desert, and you can see, how they just cut off the world, leaving a drop to infinite void only blocked off with an invisible wall. Clearly 0 f*cks were given. 😅
There is also this funny not confirmed fact, that the story in this add on was written by an intern who had a little time to study the story of Gothic games
Uh... The nameless hero WON the fight against Xardas in the intro! It says so on the screenshot even! But it came at a great cost :D Namely, the quality of the game got lost in the battle...
You look at mods like Archolos for example, and this game is even more outrageous, knowing Forsaken Gods was backed by money, while Archolos was made for free, by fans with only passion for the world of Gothic, and it manages to be 10x times better in every aspect.
That is so true. This game does have a few new assets though. I like the look of the UI in FG better than G3. So I modded my game and took all the textures from FG and properly put them in G3. Took A long time. Turned out awsome. This is one thing notable about FG. It's armors, UI, etc. are excellent.
What really fascinates me about this game is that you get to explore Myrtana from Gothic 3 again but without all the cool things to find. Like all those caves that used to have monsters and chests, are they just empty? It just seems so weird. The idea of exploring all of Myrtana again when things have changed with time, new things, new placements of monsters, quests and chests. It would be so bizzare but also something I could not say no to. But this is just such a waste of this open world.
Even in Gothic 3 everything was empty... The same chests with the same shit everywhere... The merchants who sell the same shit... No unique items or something... And still the same, recycled creatures... Ahh...
When mentioned using the soundtrack to write the script for videos is brilliant, I am actually using the music to write my video game (Long way to go there), and I take a lot of inspiration from Piranha Bytes games, In addition, your videos really emphasize what I should pay more attention to them when creating it. Oh jeez! I'm sorry for this, I worked on this game as an intern and then a junior programmer at Trine games. What a godforsaken company - I was friends with the writer (amazing dude), and the inside joke was that the name of the game was inspired by the state of affairs at the company haha. It was a shit-show - I routinely worked 12+ hours, longest stretch was 57 hours at the office. Our salaries, measly to begin with, were always delayed by 2-3 months or more (5 months delayed when I decided to rage-quit). The CEO used to scream at people publicly in the middle of the open floor. When the studio was finally paid for shipping the game, he bought himself a sport car first before paying off our dues. They still owe me 2 months pay :) There's no point having a good team if you're going to treat them like shit and ignore every piece of expert advice that you find inconvenient. I learnt so much from that first job - mostly about what NOT to do 😅
The game had some interesting ideas like the increase in stat just more common. You did a quesdt where you hunted down some wolves her is some dexterity, sure Gothic games had these before aswell but it was far less often. Armor sets look really nice, the added buildings for the towns. Even some parts of the story could have been good if they actually tried to make a good one but the negatives are just too much to ignore unlike in Gothic 3.
17:10 What didn't you like about The Big Bang fight? I'd say it's one of PB's better bosses. I went for the melee build in Gothic FG but decided it's good time to use some magic if it's the final. 1 Meteor almost oneshotted the Beast. So my disappointment was coming from opposite reasoning. Playing this on release date gave me PTSD and aggression problems. The damn lags, fps drops, quests bugging out, horrendous dialogues(especially in German) etc etc you literally nailed it why do I even write all of this 😂
I still play Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods like a few times every week or so. I mainly mess around with the cheat menu, but like you said the soundtrack in this game is absolutely sensational. Thanks for your thoughts on the game overall
Even though I played only the Enhanced Edition, I heard from the other players that in the first versions of the game the developers ruined stamina in fights. During every fight if you're out of stamina, you couldn't attack or dodge until the bar was full again
Well, Two Worlds I and II from Reality Pump from Kraków were called Polish Gothics in Poland, also bugged, although not with such a good plot... Offcourse there was a good plot from the first part to the third, which wasn't that bad. Btw. Those were the times of 2006-2007: The Witcher 1, Gothic 3, Two Worlds 1 and of course The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, which won. At that time, Two Worlds 1 sold better than the first Witcher. Then in 2010-2011 came: The Witcher 2, Arcania a Gothic Tale ("Gothic 4"), Two Worlds II and TES V: Skyrim which offcourse won. The Witcher had to wait for The Witcher 3 until 2015 to hit the jackpot. Two Worlds 3 probably won't compete with The Witcher 3 and the next Witchers, but it could be good. Reality Pump, after cooperation with the Germans from JoWooD and TopWare, will be even more gothic! xD ;) Ahh, beautiful times...🥲
I still lowe G3 and G3FG for this game fight system. To this day, troll stunlocked by my fist is probably funniest thing I saw in Gothic franchise. And it works to this day (yes, in G3 witc CP also). Just unequip weapon, hit him once and... watch. :D Pure gold.
Tonight I watched your retrospectives of Arcania and Forsaken Gods and I really appreciated your work! I don't have a gaming pc, only Play Station and Switch, so I'll never play some of the games you talk about but you make a really good work! Looking forward to the re-release of Risen in january for consoles
I USED to have an gaming pc which was mid/low settings too but if its to play games like gothic 3 or old ones you don't need an particular strong pc. I only play on PS5/switch nowadays and I guess there are "mini pcs" nowadays that you only just need monitor/keyboard/mouse and they can be used to play emulators or low end games... you don't need an big desktop again.
I always enjoy watching your videos they always make my day especially when it's related to Gothic series. I really liked Gothic 3 and see it has soo much potential to compete with games like the elder scrolls series just that it doesn't has the budget or ever given the time to truly flourish on what it could had actually been. So far THQ is showing promising results with their new gothic remake and I'm hype day 1 buy when it comes out.
I've found a couple of little mistakes in your analysis. Actually you can listen the music of Varant if you go to the part of the map where access to the desert in Gothic 3 and you can also listen the music of Nordmar if you continue exploring to the north of Faring
I remember playing all 3 Gothic games close together. Bought some boxed collection sometime in the late 2000s. Gothic 2 was my favorite of the 3. Got to this expansion, played it maybe 30 minutes to an hour, and just stopped. It was so, so bad. IIRC, they gave it to a brand new dev team in India, who had never worked on anything before, and that showed I feel. Want to say I played it near its launch, so it was full of bugs. Real glad Piranha Bytes is still going today. Enjoyed Risen 1, and then 2 to a lesser extent. Still need to play Risen 3 and then get to the Elex games.
Unpatched release version is the best way to go - This game is always going to bad, so why don't just go all out and experience the real thrash fire? I still remember that it was so bonkers that in shitty little cave where you had to kill some goblins for rebels they put few few copies of the strongest 2H weapons in the game because they just didn't give a shit.
you've probably played base game Me who just bought the Gothic bundle and haven't played it enjoyable content after all now I can 100 ignore this expansion anyway, great video as always best wishes
I just would like to mention this "GAME" was made by literally indian guys with less than minimum wage who basically reused every single asset they could.
Never completed it even once. Played maybe for 25 minutes and went back to G3. Such a shame, I'd love to see a good expansion for G3. Wasted opportunity.
Many people get confused and think Forgotten Gods IS Gothic 3, that it's just the base game with an expansion and some patches. Just today I had to explain to my friend that he has bought the wrong one... the bad one.
Wait, the Hero LOST this duel with Xardas? I remember that in the intro slideshow the text (at least in polish version) suggests a draw or that the Hero barely won. It's very vague tbh. Then the narrator states that Hero was exhausted due to this fight but jumps the portal anyway. Imho Xardas wouldn't stand a chance against the Nameless Champion, but I can't expect to witness much logic in the franchise after the trilogy concluded
The only JoWood game I knew before your Arcania video was King of the Road. Someone gifted it for my birthday when I was a kid... I even still have the disk lol
gothic 3: forsaken gods was one of the first rpgs Ive ever played because I accidentally purchased it instead of gothic 3. I thought it was amazing at first but I never got really far in the game. I always just remember being in the first village and I loved the music and at the time I wasnt aware of how bad the game was. even though its a pile of garbage it will always bring up good memories because I really didnt have anything else to compare it with
Never played this game or franchise. I wish I did as it looks interesting. Especially the 3rd one, as it looks gorgeous. I wish I had of got into games like this in their prime, when I was younger and more impressionable.
I must disagree with you on the voice actor of Gothic 3. He's a really talented voice actor named Crispin Freeman and he worked on really big shows, anime and games :)
My biggest sadness of Gothic was that the voice actor that I grew to love in his own sassy way was replaced in Gothic 3. He had this weird gift of being a douche one moment and quite amicable in another.. depending on the stature of the person he was talking with. It was clear he held disdain for higher standing people and more of a fondness for peasants and mercenaries. Yet still managed to remain respectful in the mage playthrough.. and sassy to Knights/Paladins with some exceptions. Gothic 3 was not perfect. I think it was a step back to go away from the timing based Gothic 2 combat to just flailing. Gothic 2 combat was not perfect either, but it was something one could build upon, maybe even be a precursor to the combat system in Kingdom Come where directional based strikes would make for unique animations and attacks. The magic was more than good enough, but could have been developed further from 2 to 3. The game had SO much more potential, but it did NOT lack in the exploration and beauty of the landscape. With minor tweaks to the files (not even mods) it could look just as good, or even better, than Skyrim. Of course these tweaks make the game something only modern computers can handle, but it just shows that the engine could do more than the hardware of its time could handle which is impressive to me. Things like practically unending draw distance (not really, but it LOOKS that way because you are limited by the terrain anyway) and beautiful VFX. The music itself is a masterpiece on so many levels. I absolutely hate what the publishers did to the developers. This has been the bane of many dev companies in the past. But it is what happens when you mix Art and Consumerism. One must yield for the other to flourish. Publishers have ruined Development companies before and they have done so after.. and they will continue doing it.
I wonder what kind of Mindwipe happened the Piranha Bytes after the Gothic 2 DLC. They just throw out these legendary rpgs and then proceed to only make sub-par garbage. And they are still on the garbage streak
I am rly intruiged how the Gothic Remake will be.They rly seem to wanna make a faithful remake, they work a lot with the community together. From what i heard the new prototype looks very good :)
OH MY FUCKING GOD, i tried gothic as a young teen and i really hated it. Now i know that I hated it because I wasnt actually playing Gothic 3 but instead Forsaken Gods and I must have just assumed that "Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods" just meant the game + some sort of expansion.
the game is not horrible, at the time of release even with all its problems it was pretty good. Even today it still holds up better than most rpgs. The problem is that they didnt start the character from 0, you started the game by killing orcs and that threw the balance away. In gothic 1 the first orc scout you encountered probably felt like a boss
JoWooD broke this franchise, this and Arcania were the nails in the coffin. If the original Gothic 3 had had a decent publisher that let PiranhaBytes do their job properly we might have ended up with one of the best open world RPGs of the 2000s.
no my friend, they should have made Gothic 3 with a Gothic2 upgraded engine, instead of dinamiting their future, because they thought they can against the crap it was oblivion, its a pitty, but i think that if G3 was made in G2 engine at least, it would have been a master piece, but no, they wanted random loot, and lifeless gameplay, just like oblivion they deserve it
Im confused, over the past 3 games the Hero is doing countless tasks and quests, usually just to help people in bad situations, then he basically single handily decides the outcome of the great war. Now there are people mistaking this epic hero for a slave? Not to mention the very same rebel camps/entire cities he helped, now don't trust him because "things are bad"... WHAT? Someone explain pls.
If EA, Activision, ect. weren't so freaking horrible, then JoWooD would probably be my least favorite game publisher. So many great IP's and ideas came through them... and were *utterly* botched and squandered. Almost everything they touched turned to shit.
The sad thing in my opinion is that main form of the story had a potential - civil war, main intrigue, unification and final fight could be solid but the execution is like they decided to make an one, big Monthy Python on purpose (greetings to the chain quests with the Errol imprisonment and Ignatius works) Perhaps i am mad but i finished this (with patch) two times in a row in a short period of time... maybe just for these ridiculous dialogues and it was very brief? EleGiggle
One of the funniest things was when I was dueling the vietnamese exchange student in one of the towns, I think the name was Ngo. And he had the head model of an African😂 but only the head. The rest was European white😂
Arcania and Forsaken Gods were total disaster. Boring, linear, inconsistent and sloppy design. It has nothing to do with Gothic franchise. Thankfully Arcania devs removed "Gothic" part from the title, at least. Same should be done with FG. btw 9:33 - This is exactly what I was thinking when I played FG back then.
THE biggest disappointment in my life!:((( really I literally had dreams about myself in other timeline, where Gothic 3 is as beautiful and exciting as the 2nd and 1st
22:27 Weird, I don't think it's the best armor set, the paladin one is better (+150 to all basic damage reses + you can wear a helmet with it; more expensive than mystical, too), you can buy it from the alchemist, next door to the left of Lee's throne room. And I got the Mystical oen pretty early on, like early mid game or something (just finished the whole thing yesterday, hated it for the most part, shouldn't have played it right after Gothic 3 I guess). Although all the damage resistances work weird: after a certain threshold (they don't seem to have 90% soft cap on them like in Gothic 3) the basic beasts won't as much put a dent on you while humanoids and the end boss still do pretty much. I cheesed the boss running to the back of the tunnel, jumping on top of some rocks there and shooting it while it could only reach me with the lightning that didn't do that much damage. You could make this fight slightly easier by the way if you bought poison resistance from paladin Hanz in Venguard (or anywhere else since you drag him around anyway). He sells all the best skills, too bad the game is almost over by that point. I'm gonna go and kill everybody in the game now I guess. They don't care anyway, they broke repercussions for stealing and murdering either.
I still remember hearing an awefull noise now and than in dialogue like lag? but the games wasn't lagging, Im not sure if this also happen in the german audio
My biggest mistake was to play this "Game" thinking that is a REAL Gothic 3 and even much better, because it has and expansion pack "Forsaken Gods". WOW! Its like a "Gothic 2: Night of the raven" that I have played in early 2005-2006. I was really thinkinking that is Gothic 3, but I cannot understood why there is no access to this 2 regions. Invisible walls, thank you! O, my forsaken God! Adanos, Beliar and Inos, that is so good that you haven't seen this piece of dog's... And this boss! Morras are really have a good sense of humor, but it's so different in our world and have some taste of curry. When I have already played Gothic 3 original I was like: "Wow! That is something different and why I kinda like it? No way, there is 2 regions available now!" and after I realize whats happened. Thank you Google in 2012 even for the late factchecking abilities and I'm glad that is not a "Pirahna bytes" game. So you see you can fool anyone. I even want to buy Arcania after finishing the "Forsaken Gods".
It’s a shame that a struggling publisher dragged Gothic into the mud like that. Before Gothic 3 I was obsessed with the franchise up to the point of writing fanfiction in World of Gothic. In my view the scope of G3 was detrimental as the epic main story fell flat in writing and gameplay while cities felt like checkmarks. But for all its faults it was still a solid game with a great atmosphere in some places. It didn’t deserve… This.
To me making a nameless hero a "righterous one" is stupid since it denies the fact of being a convict in Mine Valley Am I supposed to believe that convict will have a high morality or care about war on continent?
@@dennisdavidov782 It's a shame that Piranha Bytes never made it in time to finish the Gothic games and didn't do a better job of promoting Gothic so that it wasn't just "eurojunk", which of course doesn't always mean crap games, but games unknown in the US.
I just bought all three gothic games on GoG and when I came across a review for this one it piqued my interest. Of course it instructed me to avoid this expansion and so I only purchased 1,2,3. Had to come here and look though.
What i never really understanded in forsaken gods how did milten had such item on him when you clearly banished all 3 gods and tier powers over the world previously with xardas, not to mention how the fck got the hero driven to maddness in arcainia by beliar i never played this thing plus when i saw a video about the game and the main character voice changes on different dialogs are just insane
Gothic 3 is shit to begin with, let alone Forsaken Gods. G3 cannot be compared with g1 and g2. G2 NotR can be called the best game ever made even from technical standpoint. G3 is the first game where PB started going in the wrong direction.
Love your videos, I can't finish elex two coz the preference fell off a cliff, risen three also, I'm getting 45 fps now and it was fine last year, I'm sadly dropping piranha bites.

Me who just bought the Gothic bundle and haven't played it
enjoyable content after all
now I can 100 ignore this expansion
anyway, great video as always
best wishes
I just would like to mention this "GAME" was made by literally indian guys with less than minimum wage who basically reused every single asset they could.
Never completed it even once. Played maybe for 25 minutes and went back to G3. Such a shame, I'd love to see a good expansion for G3. Wasted opportunity.
00:14
man, you don't like gothic 3
YOU ARE THE GOTHIC 3 !!!!!
Lmao 🤣🤣🤣
I remember that the final Boss in the Polish version was called "Szef" which means as much as Boss XD
Many people get confused and think Forgotten Gods IS Gothic 3, that it's just the base game with an expansion and some patches. Just today I had to explain to my friend that he has bought the wrong one... the bad one.
I really miss adventures with "the guys". Imagine a new story with Nameless Hero, Diego, Lares, Lester, Lee, Milten and Gorn. I need that so bad.
17:35 Reminds me of the DBS Broly movie where Gogeta and Broly break the space time continuum and fight in a different dimension. Truely epic
The only good thing about this game is your video. Love everything gothic related that you do!!! Thank you 🙏
i'm pretty late to the party, but i wonder if you would make a full review for Archolos?
"GO BACK NOW!!"
Hyping myself up for the Gothic Remake by watching all your Gothic videos.
I think you deserve to know that the VA for Nameless Hero in Forsaken Gods is JB Blanc who voiced Rost, Caustic, Vander and many many more.
The main character sounds like charles xaviar in the xman cartoon from the 90s
I must disagree with you on the voice actor of Gothic 3. He's a really talented voice actor named Crispin Freeman and he worked on really big shows, anime and games :)
We Polish Gothic players say Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods is just a game inspired by Polish machinima made in Gothic.
Gothic 1 & 2 are pretty terrible too, except those two games actually had decent writing and well thought-out progression.
Fortunately it was clear from the beginning that this expansion was so bad!
Never played it, never will.
How could you do this to yourself? :D
It's a decent game I've played far worse
the game is not horrible, at the time of release even with all its problems it was pretty good.
Indian writing
If EA, Activision, ect. weren't so freaking horrible, then JoWooD would probably be my least favorite game publisher.
So many great IP's and ideas came through them... and were *utterly* botched and squandered. Almost everything they touched turned to shit.
I dont understand why JoWood forced PB to release Gothic3 early, what was their market strategy?
Really good video.
Arcania was the best after gothic 2 tbh. G3 was totally shit, risen 2 even worse.
THE biggest disappointment in my life!:((( really
I literally had dreams about myself in other timeline, where Gothic 3 is as beautiful and exciting as the 2nd and 1st
Still better than gothic 3
Yes, I personally find it more enjoyable than G3.
I watched this video like 3 times the last week and I don’t know why😂
This dlc (done by a different team) should be erased from the gaming history.
Did you realy start that 1 g3 track that demonetizes your video :D
I know it's not an rpg, but what do you think about SCORN ?
The atmosphere is amazing, it's a nightmare.
Would be great to see your review!
Is that Durmin Paradox doing the review?!
To me making a nameless hero a "righterous one" is stupid since it denies the fact of being a convict in Mine Valley
Am I supposed to believe that convict will have a high morality or care about war on continent?
is the Heros Voice Actor FitMC??? (A minecraft-UA-camr?) He actualiy sounds like him XD
Now it is time for og two worlds
Another eurojank RPG worth covering is Demonicon (2013) which sort of a poor attempt to mimic The Witcher 2.
Had to come here and look though.
its a big difference even compaired to gothic 3. I would give Arcania a better ranking than Forsaken Gods
If it's that bad I have to play it!
Maybe it once was - but there was way worse crap coming after Gothic 3.
Still, I know I'm not the only one
but here goes nothing.I miss gothic, I know I could play them again but I'm talking about a new gothic sequal
Was a good game because you can become king but is to short
What i never really understanded in forsaken gods how did milten had such item on him when you clearly banished all 3 gods and tier powers over the world previously with xardas, not to mention how the fck got the hero driven to maddness in arcainia by beliar i never played this thing plus when i saw a video about the game and the main character voice changes on different dialogs are just insane
I liked it.
I love the fact, that you just straight up fight a Jew-caricature in the final battle. It's a german developer after all...
i also tried it , it was so bad it's funny (the dialog and voice acting pure asssss
The game that killed Durmin Paradox
BRUH HE WON THE FIGHR VS XARDAS NOT LOST IT
Forsaken Gods is not a game, it's a legal suicide helper.
omg that last boss with the shittyflute xD
Gothic 3 is shit to begin with, let alone Forsaken Gods. G3 cannot be compared with g1 and g2. G2 NotR can be called the best game ever made even from technical standpoint. G3 is the first game where PB started going in the wrong direction.
I cant agree. Its good game but come a little bit short And i never had stuttert
fans made gothic 3 great
G3 was alpha& beta tested by Romanian team...some of idiots work at Bitdefender...
Still, its not worse than Arcania :D or is it?
It's not. It runs almost smooth on a (current) modern computer. I am now playing it again after a few years and I find it very enjoyable, tbh.
This game is the only one from pb I couldn't finish. I actually liked Arcania :) but Gothic: FG is something I don't even want to play
Both of them aren't from PB but rather JoWood (the publisher).
Its not the worst rpg,but its not great, map is huuge, music awesome, and im enjoying soo much finding villages towns cities, everything else sucks
ah yes, haven't heard of this lump of trash for a while 😂very intrigued to see what you have to say
Love your videos, I can't finish elex two coz the preference fell off a cliff, risen three also, I'm getting 45 fps now and it was fine last year, I'm sadly dropping piranha bites.
