ONLY Game Sack can make a review about a system 15 years late, and reignite my level of excitement from the system's original release ... times 100!!! It's like I warped to 2005 -- but kept all the massively built-up nostalgia and countless memories I have now...

You could have just as easily gotten your point across without taking the Lord's name in vain, my friend. That's what makes Game Sack so highly-respected. Joe (and at one time, Dave) can captivate the audience without using offensive language. You could learn a lot from this channel.

A little known fact.. Sony added extra PSP video support into their PlayStation 3D Display. If you connect one via the component cable, it will detect the PSP, and fill the entire screen space without any black bars. It looks pretty nice on the 24" screen too. The PS 3D Display also looks like a giant PSP Go, so it all makes sense. :)

Too bad those displays had a faulty control chip in all models causing them to fail over time. Good 3D displays otherwise and all you have to do is find the chip online and replace but not many have the ability or confidence to do so.

@@seanthiem1176 Well not in all of them. I bought two of them when they were cheap. One for $99, and a second one for $49.99. I've been using both now for 8 years and they are running great.
One of them I use nearly every night with my Switch and PS4, and the other I use as a PC display, on for at least 7 hours a day (x8 years). IIRC, if they were to crap out, it would happen in the first couple of months. When I bought these I also picked up a cheap SquareTrade warranty to cover manufacturer defects. It went unused, thankfully.

From an aesthetic perspective, the PSP is my favorite handheld. I remember buying one around launch and being blown away by the systems capabilities in terms of visuals. While a lot of the major titles that were pushed are inferior to their console counterparts and lost some of their appeal, there are a lot of great gems, especially in the RPG category.

The console that introduced me to hacking, err, software modification, home brew and the mod community in general. If your looking for an emulation beast, a modded PSP is far more accurate than a lot of the portable emulation devices on the market today. Unfortunately the clock speed will never allow it to run most of the 32 bit generation but it handles the 8 and 16 bit eras like a champ. The NEO GEO and SNK emulators are stunning and the number of titles you can play is mind boggling.

Probably worth noting that the PSP was the very first portable system to actually have an analog stick, so for a first attempt at it it's really not bad. They kind of had to figure out the best way to go about it from scratch, so props to Sony for kind of sort of getting it right. Portable system analog sticks really haven't evolved that much since, so I'd say they did a pretty darn good job for being the very first to ever do it.

@@SighterFoxFH I absolutely love F-Zero GX and likewise think it's one of the greatest games of all time. But just completely dismissing the WipEout games as some poor relation copycat series just isn't on in my book. WipEout originated on the PS1 as a groundbreaking, truly 3D, polygon futuristic racer at a point where the only F-Zero game was the SNES's totally flat mode 7 game, with F-Zero X on the n64 coming out years after the first WipEout game. The WipEout games have gone on to be an incredibly successful series in their own right, and in the early days were synonymous with the PlayStation brand and it's shift in the video game market being aimed at more mature gamers. WipEout isn't a poor man's F-Zero, it's its own thing entirely.

Great video! The PSP is a system I have a lot of nostalgia for, both its games and its incredibly cruddy web browser that was my only internet connection for over a year circa '08.
If you ever felt up to it, I'd lose to see a second video about the PSP and its games, since there's still a ton of great material to cover. It would provide a lot of fodder for a "portable sequels to console games" episode, what with Daxter and the Ratchet and Clank games on the system, not to mention the Siphon Filter games and more. In general it's a little console with a lot to offer, and one that definitely deserves more retro love.
So, all you retro handheld consolizer people: PSP consolizer with HDMI out when? 'Cause for real, I've got a stack of UMDs and the fuzzy output from my component cables just doesn't cut it.

Before the official PlayStation store began, gaming companies would upload their demos straight to the internet in various places. I remember using Photoshop to create a white jpg that I shared with some people online to turn it into a flashlight. I freaking loved the Megaman remakes, especially Maverick Hunter X. There are some new things in that game you didn't mention. When you beat it, you get a 25 minute anime that's like a prequel to the game's story and AFTER that, you unlock Vile and that has a whole new story, and changes up the gameplay a tiny bit due to his weapons. It's a shame the games sold poorly initially because they became popular once the online store was introduced and Capcom already cancelled ALL Megaman projects. AW WELL.
