I know it’s not for everyone, but I’d say buying physical games really helps with this problem in my experience. Because it forces you to stand up and actually choose ONE game and insert the disc. It sounds like it doesn’t really matter, but I found that this helps me concentrate on one game a lot more, because I only have ONE game on my console, there’s less of an urge to change games because I have to get up, remove the disc, put it back on the shelf in the case, get another case, etc.
On top of that you actually get to own your game as a very nice bonus wich surprisingly most games still come full on disc and being able to fully complete offline. DoesItPlay group have done extensive work researching this stuff.
“Netflix Syndrome”. This refers to users who spend more time choosing content than actually watching it. The more choices you have, the more you struggle to choose.
Love this. I literally stare at a screen for 30 minutes looking at my installed games instead of gaming. I did this yesterday and it really helped funnel me into a single game that I enjoy.
It's called the Choice Overload or Overchoice effect. Having more options to choose from is actually detrimental to decision making processes and has a psychologically negative impact on the mind, stressing it out with too many options.

We think 21st century is amazing cause look at all there's available, but in the end it's grief we are feeling cause we do one thing and then we think: damn I missed 99 other things.... our brains are not made for this. Sure, we can adapt but we are not made for this by nature or God. We also lack self discipline or ethics and these are hard to come by. Anywhooo... Have a great Christmas / holiday :)
This is the thing about being an adult now you can buy whatever you want when you want it. Which leads to too many options. My back log on ps5 and xbox is ridiculous and all I do is scroll threw the games saying I'll play them which never ends up happening. I end up going back to a game I've played repeatedly.
Good strategy. I personally don't have this problem as I know exactly what games I want to play, and with single player games I generally play one at a time until I finish them. But for those who do, this would be a good way to get started. Also, I never force myself to play something if I don't like it.
this is exactly what i do, i dont play any other single players games till im done with the one im playing....after i finish i usually give my self a bit of time to rpocess the previous game and just lose brain cells in muktiplayer ganes And then go back to a new game to start and or to repla!
Especially since backlogs keep growing bigger once you are an adult with a steady income. You buy more games than you have time and energy to punch through.
RIP James. Just beat max Payne 3 on second hardest. Your 100% right too many options. It's good to get roadmap of what games you want to play. Good life analogy.
Ive done the same thing this past year. Beaten a lot of games with this strat. No need to spend money on drives either. Respect Rev and good luck, keep us updated on your games now. Peace
The way I recognized this problem last night, uninstalled all my excess games and then saw this video recommended to me 9 hours after it was uploaded is funny to me.
Can’t go wrong with this idea. I’ve been doing exactly this for the past 3 years or so. It really improves the experience because your attention is only in one place, so you can easily track your progression in the game, notice yourself improving, not have to remember controls again, and also follow the story easier. It just feels more like a complete experience, like kicking back to watch a great movie from start to end uninterrupted, without pausing it every 15 mins to go do something else. Really makes me feel like I got my money’s worth outta the game.
This is why I don't like subscription services either, so much choice that I feel like I'm wasting my time when I could be playing something potentially better. I cancelled gamepass on my Xbox since I realized the reason I tend to stick with my PS5 is because I only have a couple things installed on their at once. It really does help, makes the games you're playing feel more special. Like back in the old days when you'd put a single disc in and that was the game you'd play.
The advantage of a harem is that you can please several women at the same time! But that doesn't work with games! You have to do it the way Rev shows 🤣😂
I would recommend this. I needed to do this before to jump start my interest in gaming. I would look at the games I have yet to play and then I would switch it off.
I’ve definitely found myself bouncing from game to game when having a ton of games at my disposal. So I’d agree that having less games installed helps in focusing on finishing a game.
I been doing this for the past few months. Basically i play 2-3 games max. All of the games need to be different genres. Right now, i play an RPG (Star Ocean 2 Remake) & a shooter (Half-Life). Also, i dont play games in a trilogy back to back. I finished Bioshock & Bioshock 2 but i ended up not finishing Bioshock Infinite. The one thing i hate about the gaming home screens is that there is so much clutter of advertisements & other stuff i dont care about
Trust me. It is. It's in my Top 10 singleplayer games of all time. The start of the game is sloggy and it takes a bit of time to get into it but at some point the game just clicks and you enjoy the entire ride from that point on.
I completely understand what you’re saying about Cyberpunk. I’ve tried to get into it twice, my multiple hours both times, but for some reason it just never clicked. I feel like I should like it though, maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood, so I’ll definitely be trying it again sometime.
I was the same with Witcher 3 on and off could never get passed white orchard map, then tried it in ps5 after update and feel into the world and lore of the game like literally just got sucked in, my first playthrough was 200 hrs, but definitely have to find the right mood as 2077 is a chunky game and definitely takes time to fully grasp it all I recommend not trying to play it like a gta game and rather put yourself in Vs shoes what would you do in his or hers situation it really helps rather than doing it randomly or just not caring, try to immerse yourself in the world and lore of the game that’s the bread and butter of cyberpunk man after all it’s based off a table top game and has a bunch of books and comics so it’s definitely wise to read things in game watch and listen, the universe of cyberpunk is scary and fascinating at the same time one of my favorite fictional worlds
@@EternalNightingale Thank you for the tips. Also, funny you should mention Witcher 3, because that’s another one that I’ve tried a few times and failed to get into even though I really want to. I haven’t given up on that one either though, because I really think I would like it. One day these games will grab me lol
@@Grave_Digger606I’m the exact same with Witcher 3. Everyone says it’s amazing, but the gameplay and story just doesn’t grab me. Cyberpunk on the other hand I absolutely love. I was one of the only people who defended its potential from launch day despite its bugs. I haven’t been able to put it down for the past 3 years.
Great video Rev! I do the same thing where I scan through my library for a good while before i decide on something. Lately Ive been narrowing it down to 3 games which i have to beat if i wanna switch go something new. Beating tons of games this way.
Good idea. Also if u dont want to delete every game. Shove ur play later games into a folder and rename it something like , do not touch or play after folder 1 done.
I was thinking about doing something like this, but then I feel like I'm focusing too much on certain games. I'm a sicko with hundreds upon hundreds of hours of Overwatch and that's never leaving the front page. I got Spider-Man 2 there, Elden Ring which I got last Christmas but stresses me out too much, I just downloaded this free to play shooter called The Finals which is pretty fun, Persona 5 because it's like a 200 hour game and I play 30-60 minutes at a time, and Red Dead 2 which I really want to finish -- But I guess the difference is you deleted the rest of the games you're not playing, and maybe that's the key, because sometimes I'll be like "what else do I have" and download something else. I know PS Premium has GTA V on there now and see, I'm thinking about downloading that again after I sold the disc version years ago. So I may try your advice out later. I got like 500+ games so it's an absolute mess of a backlog. And Im still milking Tears of the Kingdom on my Switch little by little because I'm taking my time with it. I'm 40 years old now and playing games isn't like it used to be -- back in the 80s I'd be replaying Mega Man 2 over and over because that's just how it was -- you only played what you had and you played it to death. Strangely, too many choices is a bad thing, especially when you can't spend all your time gaming -- and what'd I do? I downloaded the Mega Man collection and played Mega Man again... a reminder of simpler times.
Was thinking the exact same thing lately, I got a 2TB NVME and a 8TB HDD on PS5.. won’t go into details on other platforms but it 100% gives me more problems when it comes to figuring out what to play. Recently decided to focus on one game at a time, boxed off Alan Wake 1 and 2, now onto Resident Evil 4.. then Dead Space. So far going well.
@@MetalDeathHead I’ve bought a HTC Vive, PS VR, Oculus Rift, Quest 2 in the past.. not sure I can buy another £500 headset I won’t use like the others. But I’d love to try it!

you are absolutely right!!! couple months ago I start my ps5 and sit there for like 20-25 minutes just wondering what should I play, after that I deleted all my single-player games and kept dead space which I'm currently playing, if I'm done with that I download the next one.

After my mini vacation Im gonna go play that Alan Wake 2 on my series X and try to finish that before going back to the Yakuza series with their new game next month. I see what you're trying to do. Currently, I'm just trying to beat the games on my console so instead I'm not adding anything new, I'm slowly seeing the storage increase. I don't normally play multi-player games, I'm more one single-player game at a time kind of guy, so I can stay focused on it. Hopefully your method works for you and BTW, it's ok to have Ratchet and Clank on there tough guy.
Yeah I have this problem too, I bounce around from game to game, the games that I want to come back to, If I don’t come back to it soon enough, I forget how to play, you know the controls and what not, making it even harder to want to re- learn and invest time back into it. So sometimes it never gets played again 😢
I agree with you 100% to many choices and when I am online I hear no games to play I think I am gonna do this as well that quote how can you focus on one relationship with so many others
With Cyberpunk I recommend starting Phantom Liberty straight from the menu. The base game has the slowest start and the PL option skips the boring dialogue heavy, prologue missions.
Definitely for new players that have low attention spans it’s recommended it’s just throws you into the world and get straight into action, but to get the best cyberpunk 2077 experience you have to embrace the game fully from the start and immerse yourself and pay attention to everything read the datashards and listen but no most people don’t do that sad they’re missing out some of the best content is easily missed cause cyberpunk is definitely one of the worlds where characters and lore are super important and just to skip a vital part to why the game happens is critical to play experience and won’t connect to the game as others have.
Rev you know them people over at cd projekt red are very solid I get why it’d be hard to get into 2077 but some of the stuff you can do is real dope kinda like the crysis nanosuit
@@ExposingLames only time I ever played half life was on the ps2 and that’s wasn’t exactly a good time, I have been playing a lot of old school pc games recently cause they’re not too crazy with keyboard inputs so I might give it a shot at some point, I just hate being slouched over the pc trying to play games lol
Great tip, recently i did the same on Steam. Uninstalled everything save 5-7 games i might be interested in. If they don't grab me in the first few minutes they gone.
I rather just buy a game and finish it. I feel more obligated to finish a game when own it on a disk. A rental service makes me scratch my head on what game I should play. Kinda like Netflix, I can never decide what I'm gonna watch.
I usually install one game at a time and try to work on that one game only. Guess my next problem is looking at the stack of physical games and see "which one to start" lol
See for me it's not a problem having all these options I just make a mental note what's the one game I want to play and I think about it outside of the living room while in the real world and play it when I'm home. Then make my next game list
Same thing with streaming services, i look at amazon prime, Netflix, Disney for about 40 minutes and end up filling up a watchlist then watching an old dvd. Of course im never going to get around to rewatching all of home improvement on Disney but there it is in the watch list anyways
I do the staring at what I have but my internet ain't good enough to just uninstall. Also, I always have that mindset of "what if servers go down and I'm stuck with just this or that?" I don't know. I'm weird.
sound advice, i use a similar strategy, though i do get bored of some games from time to time, leaving them unfinished, stacking up... its definitely a problem for me.
what i've done for a few years now is have a notepad open on my pc with games listed and categorized so i don't lose focus. active games so most likely newer releases, project games if i'm playing a boat load for a specific purpose, backlog games that i dropped for newer ones and am waiting on updates or mods, and games to play when i'm bored like mp games or shit you fire up to pass a quick hour or so.
Yep, I'd imagine that'd help a lot of people. Now you gotta find out some way to prevent your smart phone from distracting you... And was that a reference to Falling Down at the end there...?
Yes it was Kev LOL I was going to say when I scrolled past Ratchet & Clank...what's this doin in there?? Fa##ot shit LOL but I figured that prob wouldn't go over to well
That’s my focus, which is the best way in my opinion, just beat and enjoy one game at a time. It always start from one, at this rate you will get through your backlog in no time. I’m happy you got XSX back. I wish you and your family Merry Christmas all the best for the season🌲
Good tactics... helps you stay focused on the mains instead of fragmenting your gaming experience. Happens to me often that i get lost in my library. Take it one at a time like life is supposed to be.
Mate I’m in the exact same boat man to many games. I’m a game hopper from one to the next man one to the next !!!! lol merry Christmas you and the family bud ❤

Same first world problem I have.
Rev you know them people over at cd projekt red are very solid I get why it’d be hard to get into 2077 but some of the stuff you can do is real dope kinda like the crysis nanosuit
Paradox of Choice
Yeah having too much installed really is a game block, too many options isn’t always a good thing.
You played Black Mesa yet?
@@ExposingLames only time I ever played half life was on the ps2 and that’s wasn’t exactly a good time, I have been playing a lot of old school pc games recently cause they’re not too crazy with keyboard inputs so I might give it a shot at some point, I just hate being slouched over the pc trying to play games lol
Great tip, recently i did the same on Steam. Uninstalled everything save 5-7 games i might be interested in. If they don't grab me in the first few minutes they gone.
It feels good to own/access too many games. I don’t min max anything ever except for having my gaming storage maxed out.
Life coach video-game style
I rather just buy a game and finish it. I feel more obligated to finish a game when own it on a disk. A rental service makes me scratch my head on what game I should play. Kinda like Netflix, I can never decide what I'm gonna watch.
Too much choice is a definite challenge. I have even more than you on my Pro & One-X, it's a curse frankly.
Me too keep 3 maybe 4 at all time
Same thing with streaming services, i look at amazon prime, Netflix, Disney for about 40 minutes and end up filling up a watchlist then watching an old dvd.
My backlog is burying me man, I'll give this shot and hope for the best
what i've done for a few years now is have a notepad open on my pc with games listed and categorized so i don't lose focus. active games so most likely newer releases, project games if i'm playing a boat load for a specific purpose, backlog games that i dropped for newer ones and am waiting on updates or mods, and games to play when i'm bored like mp games or shit you fire up to pass a quick hour or so.
My brother actually just showed me this and yeah it's pretty convenient if I do say so myself.
always spot on with your videos man ! ı did the same thing weeks ago. want to see a robocop rogue city review btw.
Yep, I'd imagine that'd help a lot of people. Now you gotta find out some way to prevent your smart phone from distracting you...
And was that a reference to Falling Down at the end there...?
Great movie!
Yes it was Kev LOL I was going to say when I scrolled past Ratchet & Clank...what's this doin in there?? Fa##ot shit LOL but I figured that prob wouldn't go over to well
@@ExposingLames LOL! Classic, man. Well, I would have appreciated it before you got canceled, haha.
Ikr! it hard for me to focus on one game. hope this tactic works
I did this some time back felt real productive 😂 beat like 3 or 4 games in a weeks time thats more than i have in years lol
Hey Rev, would love to hear your take on GTA 6 and the recently released trailer in a video sometime!
That’s my focus, which is the best way in my opinion, just beat and enjoy one game at a time. It always start from one, at this rate you will get through your backlog in no time. I’m happy you got XSX back. I wish you and your family Merry Christmas all the best for the season🌲
Been doing this for years. 3 is the magic number.
Ocd would eat me alive, i can't lol
You better drop that Christmas video, letting us in on the goodies. 🙂
So many games.... So little time...
Good tactics... helps you stay focused on the mains instead of fragmenting your gaming experience. Happens to me often that i get lost in my library. Take it one at a time like life is supposed to be.
I have like 5 or 6 games installed on my PS5 and Series X each. I see no reason to completely fill the SSD with things I won’t even play
Agreed
Mate I’m in the exact same boat man to many games. I’m a game hopper from one to the next man one to the next !!!! lol merry Christmas you and the family bud ❤
Still no 60fps patch for RDR2, shame
DAMN shame
