Currently I am leasing an XC90 and don't have any immediate plans to buy a vehicle. However, if I decide to buy, I will go for an used vehicle and no other brand has been able to convince me to think beyond a Lexus/Toyota.
@10:35 John Davis from MotorWeek going to love that instrument cluster with Oil temp and pressure on it by default. Only thing that'll disappoint him will be lack of battery voltage.
In our testing, we beat the Lexus-estimated acceleration to 60 mph by a full half-second, hitting 60 in 5.5 seconds versus the quoted 6.0-second time. That's quicker than the other 2022 NX models we've tested, but a 2021 XC60 Recharge reaches 60 in a MotorTrend-tested 5.0 seconds. We haven't yet tested a Q5 plug-in, but Audi estimates its model to be just as quick as the Volvo. In case you wonder, the lighter-weight RAV4 Prime matches the NX450h+'s 5.5-second time to 60. This means the NX plug-in hybrid is both the quickest NX money can buy and the slowest SUV in its tiny segment.
"...This new take on the NX is arguably the best compact SUV Lexus has ever built, but unless you're tied to the Lexus badge, there are better options in its segment. Sure, it's the only non-plug-in hybrid in the class (ignoring mild hybrids, that is), but if you really want to reduce your environmental impact, either buy an EV or go for a more impressive non-hybrid SUV and eat a little less beef.Despite its off-road prowess, we found the NX350h's overall ride and handling somewhat less impressive. Dynamically, the NX defaults to understeer (as most similar crossovers do and probably should) with reasonable grip, but it doesn't deliver the type of engaging driving experience the Jaguar F-Paces and Genesis GV70s of the segment do. From an overall ride quality perspective, the NX350h's suspension will easily reach its bumpstops through larger bumps and struggles to settle down over stretches of uneven pavement. The cabin is proper luxury-SUV quiet, but the rest of the experience fails to live up to that standard...." Motor Trend

I believe the 275hp version will replace the awesome 2GFRE 3.5 V6 across the board at Lexus/Toyota. Very likely to show up in the next Camry within a year or two.
Yeah. That’s very Unfortunate. I love Toyotas 3.5L v6. It’s buttery smooth and Lexus like in quietness I wish the nx350 got the v6. That would help increase sales and make the nx350 even more popular
Very likely. That's just the way the world is going, replacing sixes with turbo fours. They have similar power and more torque, in a smaller, lighter, more efficient package. It's possible to keep the engine bay smaller if it won't have to ever hold a V engine.
Im a toyota fan boy. But I wish Lexus could do something with their front face on their crossovers. The spindle grill and headlights idea is fine in concept but they just domt look that good on Crossovers and the LX and GX. The sedan lineup looks great though.

Was there anyone on this planet who said, "You know what I would love in my next car? An electronic gizmo that does not follow any sense or logic because I love confusing myself while driving."?
I believe it beeps because the vehicle isn't on or because a door is open. In a hybrid you can't hear the difference between accessory mode and on so they put a beep to warn you (either not to get out with the car still on or to remember to turn the car on before trying to drive.) I'm not sure why they keep the beep in non-hybrid models.
Surprised Toyota hasn't combined/switched to Subaru's Eyesight system. Owning both, the Subaru system seems to have more refinement. Managing the adaptive cruise control seems easier in Subaru, and seems to adapt better to situations. Of course, the Subaru system will take you to a stop, and continue once you tap the gas pedal. Making bumper to bumper traffic a lot easier to handle.
The Toyota radar cruise control also has stop and go capability. It’ll hold you there and then you tap the gas to resume Plus the Toyota cruise control works better in bad weather since it radar based not camera based

Not wild about the styling, which has gotten busy and kind of chunky. The last generation was a lot cleaner. I'm also shocked they didn't put a fully digital instrument panel in it. Some more basic models than this have been offering them, at least in higher trim levels. I do like the hybrid options, which don't involve many compromises.
I feel like the gauge cluster in Toyotas like the rav4 Camry venza or Highlander or Sienna feel much bigger despite having a 7inch screen in the middle than most Lexus models
I really really wished there was the 3.5L v6 that has been refined for the years and had more power. But instead they gave us a 2.4L turbo that is very very conservative tuned. Hopefully we get an real Fsport trim later on with a slightly more power tuned engine to match the germans.
It is my theory that the 3.5 will disappear across the board for the Toyota/Lexus for this engine. It would not surprise me that this engine debuts for Toyota in the Camry next year. Even though it has been around since 2005, the 3.5 is such a strong, smooth, and potent engine.

@@koukimonzta Except it's more closely related to the Highlander. The reality is almost all vehicles now will run just fine on regular, though they sometimes make less power. The knock sensing is very effective at adjusting for varying fuels.
While Lexus/Toyota engines that specify premium fuel will run on regular gas it is NOT recommended by the manufacturer. Turbo engines generally have higher compression ratios and run hotter than a normally aspirated engine by design. If you use regular gas when premium is specified the engine will automatically retard the timing producing less power. More importantly the engine will run even hotter placing additional thermal stresses on the engine and turbo which over time will shorten the life of the engine. There are videos available here on youtube that explain this in detail in you are interested. Saving pennies on fuel compared to replacing an engine - your choice.
NX 350 does not make 275 hp, Lexus is flat-out lying about its real-world power output based on the 0-60 time of 6.8 seconds or they are severely cutting boost in low gears or the transmission is hot trash. Does the NX 350h require premium or regular fuel? The old NX hybrid did not require it. Also, why get this over the Venza hybrid? Many call the Venza very Lexus-lite...thank you!🚙
Thanks for the good initial review. Lexus NX 350h is definitely on my list. Would prefer a 450h all things equal but they are apparently not available in my state. I'm also leery of having to pay above a usual reasonable cost given the newness and availability of the vehicle. Plan B includes a couple of the Hyundai hybrids. I definitely want a hybrid SUV.
Why not a rav4 hybrid or venza hybrid?
@@naveenthemachine, those are good choices as well. The Hyundai Santa Fe and Tucson are rated a bit higher by CR than the Venza and the RAV4 respectively (for what that's worth). I still need to do more research, test drives, etc. I do like the look of the NX though.
Lexus the best!!!
I’m so excited for this model ! The top corners of this grill reminds me of the 2014 es grill a little , looks good
Currently I am leasing an XC90 and don't have any immediate plans to buy a vehicle.
Way too much piano black trim... Hope there is another variation to choose from.
I like the design but the interior is lacking refinement. Can the infotainment software be updated?
Alex, does the 350h require premium gas? Thank you in advance.
Great first look as always by alex. Looking forward to the full review soon
I’ll mostly go for Nx350H
This is capacitive steering wheel buttons done right. You can keep your eyes on the road while checking what you’re about to press, and then have tactile feedback from a physical switch when you do press it. Hope VW stops using those new capacitive buttons soon.
As always nice review, keep up the good work. I can't wait to get my hands on the NX 350h Luxury....
I believe the 275hp version will replace the awesome 2GFRE 3.5 V6 across the board at Lexus/Toyota. Very likely to show up in the next Camry within a year or two.
Yea it'll replace all models with the 1gr and 2gr in America.
Yeah. That’s very Unfortunate. I love Toyotas 3.5L v6. It’s buttery smooth and Lexus like in quietness
I wish the nx350 got the v6.
Personal choice. I happen to agree with you, except I have never liked the gate mouth look. It reminds of a bottom feeding catfish.
when does this go on sale? On Lexus' website, they still show the 2021 models.
Wonder how NX 350h compares to the Venza? Looks like more electronics, but how about ride, quiet, handling?
We already know the 239 hp NX hybrid equals Venza mpg, increases power and adds 2,000 lbs towing. We will have to stay tuned for the full NX vs Venza video.

@A D see? I knew the nx would be a disappointment. I got made fun of for saying that.
10:08 [Alex accidentally slams the electronic shifter into "Drive", and it starts screaming.] - Why do companies do that?
It’ll hold you there and then you tap the gas to resume
Plus the Toyota cruise control works better in bad weather since it radar based not camera based

As I watch this video again, the front seat space seems snug, even cramped. Am I wrong? I'm 95% sold on this model, but I can't test drive one because dealers don't have any. Thoughts? And, is the battery liquid cooled?
I think it depends on your physical size and which vehicle you're used to now. I don't find it "cramped" but I'm 5'3"
I'm so glad they got rid of that track pad and the ancient clock, but I can't handle that huge grill in the front. I don't like the look of it at all.
Troy & Gabriela? Haha you're a real one, Alex
6:30 I don't like blue cars and blue overall but that color looks really good
It seems Toyota has been holding all of you hostage for the past few weeeks.
Massive screen that's going to blind me at night
I really really wished there was the 3.5L v6 that has been refined for the years and had more power. But instead they gave us a 2.4L turbo that is very very conservative tuned. Hopefully we get an real Fsport trim later on with a slightly more power tuned engine to match the germans.
Yes, the V6 was a better choice. I think they sent a clear message with the 2.4 Turbo, the plug-in Hybrid is the top performer.
It is my theory that the 3.5 will disappear across the board for the Toyota/Lexus for this engine. It would not surprise me that this engine debuts for Toyota in the Camry next year. Even though it has been around since 2005, the 3.5 is such a strong, smooth, and potent engine.
@@hellkitty1014Ya exactly. When the new Highlander hybrid and Sienna ditched their 3.5 hybrid powertrain. I still had hope the Lexus will retain that powertrain as part of their luxury segment. But your right its slowly starting to fade.
Agreed. The nx350 needs the v6. That would increase the sales

Looking at purchasing the NX350 hybrid
Alex, please do a comparison: 2022 NX vs. Toyota Venza.
That’s tricky
The nx is definitely improved tech wise but admittedly I somehow prefer the gauge cluster in the venza and the older infotainment software in the venza beucase of the Home Screen and more physical buttons haha. And the navigation in the venza is integrated not entirely subscription based so that even if nav trial expires it will still work in the venza
Why? The NX is a lot more expensive. Not many will be cross-shopping the two.
Wait 1 second. Did you actually say that you have to pay for the OEM navigation software. it seems like additional cost for no reason.
In that case, just don't pay it. They know many people never use it and will cancel the subscription.
@@markmiller3279 but we're already paying for it. If anything when you check the ledger you will be charged for it anyway. Most people don't care about updates to their maps even if they keep their cars for about 5 years. I had my Mazda for 11 years updated the navigation system once.

I’ve said this before and I’ll repeat again. I predicted that The nx would honestly dead on arrival before anyone even drove it. And sure enough I was right

If the Rav4 doesnt then probably it doesnt
@@koukimonzta Except it's more closely related to the Highlander. The reality is almost all vehicles now will run just fine on regular, though they sometimes make less power. The knock sensing is very effective at adjusting for varying fuels.
@@markmiller3279 the previous NX needed premium, in Canada we pay 25% more for premium gas. My 2018 RX is great uses regular gas.
I pre-ordered the NX 350 Turbo. Was that a right decision or should I go with the 350h Hybrid?
Changed my order to the hybrid
NX 350 does not make 275 hp, Lexus is flat-out lying about its real-world power output based on the 0-60 time of 6.8 seconds or they are severely cutting boost in low gears or the transmission is hot trash. BMW X3 with 248 hp does 6.2, Audi Q5 with 261 hp does 5.5. And all that piano gloss black on every high-touch surface is going to look terrible in 6 months. Another throwaway Lexus product to not even consider.
Ikr. I knew Thr nx turbo would lose and I was right. A cx5 for gods sake also smokes this at a lower price. So does the Acura rdx
Maybe your experience with other OEM piano black is all scratching and marking. However Toyota knows how to do paint that doesn't wear or scratch. There are standards for it.
Is the revised infotainment system now on par with Tesla's?
