There are tons of repair shops and mechanics nearby around in case things go wrong with the tires or any parts for that matter. Why are you comparing the NX with the GLA, X1 and Q3? The new NX is 183.5 inches long while those Germans are 175 to 177 inches long. The GLC is 183-186 inches, the X3 is 186 and the Q5 is 184. These are much better comparisons for the NX as they are much closer to its exterior dimensions.

Like so many models these days, you have to pay more up front to save any money on fuel costs. Typically, it means you have to drive most cars for years before you can accrue any real savings. High-end EVs are even worse. Hybrids are great for efficiency but they still are burdened with effectively two powertrains to power one car. We've come a long way but there is still a long way to go. This is a nice vehicle that will serve it's customers well even if it doesn't offer much for enthusiasts. Guess that's why they build the GR86. It is an issue imo that the built in Nav. A) needs a subscription to function. B) needs data to function. It doesn't have a complete NA map on file and needs cell service. Hey Tom, see you can compare the NX350h+ with the Kia Sorento PHEV which I just bought. To me the Sorento PHEV which has a real spare, real six speed transmission, Nappa leather seats, standard 3rd row seats with more overall interior room makes it a clear winner despite the dealer markup which is kind of expected in the current market. I bet Lexus dealer will do the same thing. Love your channel!
In our testing, we beat the Lexus-estimated acceleration to 60 mph by a full half-second, hitting 60 in 5.5 seconds versus the quoted 6.0-second time. That's quicker than the other 2022 NX models we've tested, but a 2021 XC60 Recharge reaches 60 in a MotorTrend-tested 5.0 seconds. We haven't yet tested a Q5 plug-in, but Audi estimates its model to be just as quick as the Volvo. In case you wonder, the lighter-weight RAV4 Prime matches the NX450h+'s 5.5-second time to 60. This means the NX plug-in hybrid is both the quickest NX money can buy and the slowest SUV in its tiny segment. Remember, though, that the Lexus provides a better balance of EV driving range and acceleration than the Audi and Volvo. On the road, the NX450h+ feels quick despite its as-tested 4,444-pound heft. Multiple MotorTrend editors felt the NX450h+ had better suspension tuning than the NX350 and NX350h we also drove. The NX450h+ rides with more stability than its siblings, and it feels like it is the best balanced and best damped among the 350 and 450-badged NX models. Just don't expect the agility of a Genesis GV70 or Alfa Romeo Stelvio. On our figure-eight course-a MotorTrend test that evaluates acceleration, braking, handling, and the transitions in between-the NX450h+'s performance doesn't reflect the way it feels in the real world. The plug-in finished the test in 28.4 seconds at 0.57 g (average), well behind the quicker Volvo's 26.3 seconds at 0.69 g but also behind the RAV4 Prime (27.0 seconds at 0.65 g) and the NX350h. That NX hybrid variant is nearly 400 pounds lighter than the NX450h+ and finishes the figure-eight course quicker, at 28.0 seconds at 0.59 g. Motor Trend
I like the new 2022 NX. But what happens if the battery goes dead and you are outside the vehicle. How do you get into the car, to pop the hood to charge the battery?
The nx350 reallyshould have used the v6 out of the Camry. That would have done wonders for the nx and probably increased their sales even further. The turbo NX power wise is decent 275hp 317lbft torque but its still slower than a cx5 turbo with 2 less gears, Rdx, or Santa Fe turbo or even the old rav4 v6 with 3 less gears and 70lbft torque less... Tbh it doesn’t feel that much nicer than my Camry v6 XSE for instance and my Camry I think beats the nx in engine smoothness, power, quietness, and performance
No spare and run flat tires. That's a deal breaker. Toyota Venza would have been an option if it's not because the full touch screen infotainment system (no physical buttons). The only remaining option is RAV4 Limited. What a disappointment.
For the venza if you get the 8 inch touchscreen you get hard buttons and knobs for the audio and climate. Only if you get the 12.3in screen you lose them
Lexus is the only option and even with...no interface is a real technical masterpiece. Tom ,no worries your videos are simply the best all the time everywhere!
Everyone else been saying the new info was so this and so that one reviewer even said it went from last to first I find that hard to believe but like you always say go test drive these car's 👍
I believe the subscription is $15 per month after 3 yrs. It's pretty lame. Given that vehicle owner has already paid a premium to purchase the navi package.
How’s the lane centering? The other Toyotas still exhibit some ping ponging in the lane. Which manufacturer does the best lane centering in this category, excluding Tesla.
Of the mainstream brands, Kia and Hyundai Highway Drive Assist and Nissan ProPilot are my favs. SuperCruise is my hands down favorite bar none. The Lexus system in the NX is an improvement to what you might have experienced in Toyotas.
@@DrivenCarReviews Thanks. I love my 2014 Subaru Legacy with eyesight. However, it only has the autonomous cruise control. My next vehicle will have a good lane centering function as well. Many are second rate with ping-ponging. I frequently drive from Seattle to San Diego. Maybe I should compare Hyundai Sandra fe hybrid to a Cadillac xt5. A 2 row midsize awd SUV is on my list. How is the Subaru Outback lane centering? I’d love to see a whole podcast on the different lane centering systems. CR touches on this subject superficially.
@@DrivenCarReviews Tom, please make a video on the different current lane-keeping systems when you find some time, I trust your opinion. ProPilot is the only reason the new QX60 is even worth consideration as it's 10 inches longer than our preferred vehicle length. Others on our short list include the XC60 and X3 on the higher end and the Venza and CX-5 on the lower end - love to hear your take on those versus the Safety Sense 3.0 on the NX. Count on a sub from me when you do.
Interesting that a stripped-down XC60 T8 Momentum is about the same price when compared to the NX 450+ and a RWD X3 M40i with an inline-6 B58 is only a few thousand more. And both of those will stomp the NX off the line.
@@thekenthouse6428 agreed, but no one is buying Lexus to stomp off the line. It's the reliability and the guarantee that the materials will hold up for at least 10 years. Buy a Lexus, lease everything else.
@@smilingsatan Good point about reliability, it's certainly been validated over 3 decades now that nobody beats Lexus in building reliable cars. I still see some first gen LS400 on the road and those came out in the late 80's. Also some Volvo 240/740 and BMW E30/E36 from about that time. Never seen an Audi or a Hyundai from the 90's anymore.
Good review as always and yes I'm glad Lexus changed that infotainment system the last one was so lame.. however I think I would be shopping the Genesis GV70 over this. Better looking better powertrain and more performance and yes a better warranty. For that price for the Lexus no thanks..
I pre-ordered the 350h. But after watching the Genesis GV70 videos, I am wondering if Lexus would be able to retain its sheen a couple years down the road
The door “assist” seems like it would be a annoying if you’re in a big city parked on a main street where there is always traffic going by. I could understand it for back doors for kids but unnecessary for the driver.
Not sure if it can be defeated in the menu. If you hold the button for three seconds, the function is overridden. If nothing else it makes people more cautious and helps to protect cyclists. I know people that have doors opened on them, not good. And I know someone whose door was ripped off by another car when they opened it in traffic, just after finishing their driver's test. Seriously.
All these new car that is out its all about 4cyc. I think ima miss the v6 power. It will be nice if the nx sport runs v6 even it dont come with the turbo but you can still feels the v6 kick.
bad choice on the run flats. I'd rather loose a little space in the lower part of the back and have a spare... plus with summer tires quieter cabin. I could live with the stitching being absent on the dash though I don't understand their reasoning behind that decision, especially considering competition's interior looks much better. with so many luxury compact suv's on the market now Lexus can't afford to give up an inch. Lexus got the reputation but look at what Koreans are doing. they are straight up going after the Germans and getting lot of things right. Having said all that though, really like the new NX. I'm very much interested in the NX 350 F sport model. exterior looks awesome, especially the front.
Excellent overview as always, Tom. The plug-in hybrid is basically Lyriq pricing, and I’m thinking that fully electric Cadillac is the way to go. Despite the great resale on the Lexus....
Thanks Tom. If this is Lexus' big deal, why are they not putting more in tech? I kinda pity them thinking this change is revolutionary...104 degrees? To us Arizonians, that's just warm.
Venza's interior is more aesthetically coherent and its base model even retains physical knobs on the dash, with a starting price in the low $30s. And it's only two inches longer.
The Genesis was more of a price comparison since its MSRP is lower than BMW and MB. But really, if people are casting a wide net, anything can be a competitor. I know a guy that was shopping for a Q3 and ended up with an X5. Go figure.
@@DrivenCarReviews I am surprised to get a reply from you! Thank you. I just said that because I have the 2020 M40i and was thinking about this Lexus. Any thoughts?
Lexus shouldn’t have any problem selling these, they will probably sell tons. However overall Toyota as a company is getting old and lagging behind. If I wanted performance, I go with German. If I wanted tech or even resale value, I will go with Tesla. If I wanted design, I will go with Korean. Only thing left for Lexus is reliability, but other companies are catching up. And younger buyers with disposable income are not buying Lexus. Average buyer age for Lexus has been 53 for years.
Can't get it in most US markets. AND the grill on the Lexus is stupid. one little issue requires replacement of the entire front unit. Plus, the A, B, D suck. (Approach, Breakover, Departure)
Here’s hoping evil twin doesn’t get added to the no-fly list. There with you on the excitement over the new UI. About time indeed. Another great video. Thanks Tom.
Does this have auto-dimming rear view mirrors? So, with the current situation the 450h+ will probably be selling close to $70K. Ouch! I'll probably wait another year for the RX350 redesign.
Fix that ugly grill!! Make it more fun (dynamic) to drive Stop data minding people’s lives Stop adding features most people won’t use making it more expensive what it should be Interior is nice but too blend too generic
Sir, did you ask lexus team, if it is best selling suv, same time its the best suv for theft in Canada. So, I moved away from suv to sedan. Lexus hasn't done much to protect their products. We pay the price. Not good
Genesis GV70 obliterates this ‘just’ another NX new model long before it revealed to the public. even the RDX will annihilates this, that SH-AWD is hard to beat🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
Sure, and at the end of five years has a thirty percent residual, fifty six percent on the Lexus. On upper trims in Canada this is over ten thousand dollars. So with a price saving on purchase of $1700.00, still makes the GV70 much more money (not including the the extra for lower fuel economy) on ownership. Genesis styling I agree is top of market right now and think their power train options are better for fun driving.
Yup literally just justified what I’ve been saying all along. I told you all the nx was already dead on arrival before anyones even driven it and sure enough you just proved what I’ve been saying
GV70 and Macan walk all over this thing. The Lexus though it is attractive and the interior updates are revelation for Lexus. Look for this to challenge the RX for best selling status at Lexus until the new RX arrives. What I would really like to see is a true F Sport Performance version. 365hp, AWD, NO HYBRID, real suspension tuning and true focus on dynamics. The interface needs work because they're playing catch up. I mean "Hey XYZ" is something they're just learning from Mercedes and others.
How do the GV70 and Macan walk all over the NX? What is greatest *metrics* to a car's success? 0-60? 1/4 mile? Slalom speed? Cornering speed? Braking distance? Track time?
@@tropicalstorm339 Driving. The sheer art of a spirited drive, but yes if you want to measure it, they will both beat the Lexus at all those things. I didn't speak about a car's success. The Lexus NX is a huge success already.
So some good questions need to be asked if buying. NX 450h+ or RX 450h with V6 for less $? . The plugin is much more expensive than the RX. It's over $6000 + more by my calculations, and by the time you add ML and packages... Which one of the 2 is more refined, quieter, luxurious? All of the infotainment that people make a big deal about to me is just smoke and mirrors. No matter how advanced or fancy they may seem today, in a few years, they become old news. They are nice to have, but they are not what I'm looking for as my priorities. I want quality, reliability, refinement, great sound system. Once I am driving, I am not going gaga over some fancy schmancy iphone gimmicks. The driving experience and feel, you will always have. I currently own a 2019 GS350f Sport with a triple beam and ML system. It's both fun to drive and refined, and the ML system is incredible. And I have the peace of mind that it won't be a pile of junk in 5 years.
Hybrid or even PHEV should be standard. If this is Toyota’s future, where is the BEV? Honestly, Tom, after driving BEV for 7 years, any exhaust note sounds disgusting to me. Toyota is such a disappointment.
The Lexus interface and controls user experience design feels like when a bunch of boomers who are excited by touch technology suddenly want it on everything. Please learn from Mazda at least. Jesus.
Required premium fuel...? There goes the "attractive price point". Thanks, but no thanks, Toyota. And why is no car reviewer on UA-cam mentioning the type of fuel injection on new cars?
Huge ugly tablet. Whenever a rep keeps repeating it is cool, responsive and intuitive it means it is dated, slow and cannot be used without reading the user manual. The only thing I like is temperature indication inside the knobs, but this is not new.
Thank you Tom, the old interior and exterior had more character to me🤷🏻♂️ and Alfa Romeo is so right, modern cars are iphones on wheels, seems like driving is for skilled drivers nowadays with so much electronics

There’s a mechanical release both inside and outside on the door handles
Does 350h version also require premium gas? Thank you.
when will it be available in LA ?
Nice one from Lexus Good review
Zero interest in this Lexus, but I'm watching for Tom.
When will it come with an all-electric drive?
Nope
The nx350 reallyshould have used the v6 out of the Camry. That would have done wonders for the nx and probably increased their sales even further.
The turbo NX power wise is decent 275hp 317lbft torque but its still slower than a cx5 turbo with 2 less gears, Rdx, or Santa Fe turbo or even the old rav4 v6 with 3 less gears and 70lbft torque less...
Tbh it doesn’t feel that much nicer than my Camry v6 XSE for instance and my Camry I think beats the nx in engine smoothness, power, quietness, and performance
Was really hoping for a V6 NX
@@t.martin3179 me too.
Was that driving sports tv I caught there…
Yup, I try to sneak him in when possible.
Not a fan of run flat tires
Apparently, neither is Tom [at least on SUVs].
Buick would like to have a word with you.
@@normt430 lol! The only who could change a word with me are.. Toyota or Acura!
Thanks for the great review! Did you get to drive the self charging hybrid 350h too?
I see what you're doing there. Not really, very briefly.
@@DrivenCarReviews that’s actually what Lexus brand them over here in the UK as “self charging”!
Everyone else been saying the new info was so this and so that one reviewer even said it went from last to first I find that hard to believe but like you always say go test drive these car's 👍
Consumer Reports always had Lexus infotainment in very last place.
Hi Tom - How comfortable were the front seats for longer drives?
The longest stretch I had was a little over an hour and they seemed fine for me
Current NX has superb seats, though F Sport’s are narrow. New one NX should be fine.
I believe the subscription is $15 per month after 3 yrs. It's pretty lame. Given that vehicle owner has already paid a premium to purchase the navi package.
I like where Lexus is going
I have. 2017 nx200t f sport and it gets terrible mpg, getting a Honda hybrid this weekend
I don't know how Lexus can justify $14,000 premium for the hybrid. 14k buys a lot of gas.
Great another subscription model.
Good review as always and yes I'm glad Lexus changed that infotainment system the last one was so lame.. however I think I would be shopping the Genesis GV70 over this. Better looking better powertrain and more performance and yes a better warranty. For that price for the Lexus no thanks..
Great car but these gas prices are ridiculous...especially for premium fuel
And yet gas can be less expensive than bottled water. Crazy.
I pre-ordered the NX 350 Turbo. Was that a right decision or should I go with the 350h Hybrid?
I pre-ordered the 350h. But after watching the Genesis GV70 videos, I am wondering if Lexus would be able to retain its sheen a couple years down the road
@@pallavmishra I cancelled my lexus order and booked a 2022 RAV4 Adventure Hybrid
Not too much wind, last night, Tom?
Fully loaded Hybrid $57k. Amazing vehicle.
Seriously.
You cannot find a better looking CUV then the 2022 Lexus NX 350!
All these new car that is out its all about 4cyc. I think ima miss the v6 power. It will be nice if the nx sport runs v6 even it dont come with the turbo but you can still feels the v6 kick.
I can’t tell the difference between this one and the previous generation. I’m hoping they revamp the UX.
bad choice on the run flats.
Seemed like the Lyriq was a tad larger as well, but I’ll have to go back and look again.
I love this! Hahaha Tom, will you be participating at the Seattle Auto Show this year?
I'll be there
Can’t believe they kept the cowcatcher grill. Will not make my consideration list. Will become very dated looking very soon.
Its part of their design language. Why would it? I Personally think the Spindle grille looks a lot better on this new NX
That's what you said 10 years ago
FAIL: I will NOT pay for the Interface services after 3 years. Another monthly fee, no thanks.
It's only the data and the Wifi that you have to pay if you want
I see you bumpin Baby Keem TOP OF THE MORNIN TOP OF THE MORNIN TOP OF THE MORNIN
Thanks Tom. If this is Lexus' big deal, why are they not putting more in tech? I kinda pity them thinking this change is revolutionary...104 degrees? To us Arizonians, that's just warm.
104 degrees? No problem. "It's a dry heat."
I'm from Seattle and used to 60 degrees and mist.
TOM VOELK - for Top Gear (UK)
It would be a great way to see the county
@@DrivenCarReviews Yes, Your first test drive could be the made in Derbyshire Corolla Touring Sports wagon.
nice Venza _!!!_
Venza's interior is more aesthetically coherent and its base model even retains physical knobs on the dash, with a starting price in the low $30s. And it's only two inches longer.
Cant believe your not test driving in your neighborhood!
I never shoot in my neighborhood.
@@DrivenCarReviews you’re always test driving in some high end residential area in WA. Thought that was where you lived. My apologies.
At some angles why does the front looks like it hit a super flat wall 😂😂 i kinda prefer the old nx front end its a little more rounded.
x1 or 2 not x3? M40i? i ask bcus u included gv70
@@syedalam6363 Only that you'd smart to look at lots of stuff before you buy. Always my best advice. M40i is already pretty darn nice.
I read that nx350 and up uses gas with octane 91
I don’t get how this compact SUV can cost more than the much larger ES
I don’t get how this can cost more than a Camry XSE v6 while being way slower and less refined less smooth and laggy than the v6 Camry
Thanks Tom.
Hope so also can we chat
I'm waiting for the Toyota BZ4X. Hoping it will be worth the wait.
Hope it changes the name....
@@DrivenCarReviews Yeah, agreed. Really enjoy your reviews, keep up the great work 👍🏻
passenger side is sooo booring !! This part was much better in the predecessor ! BUT a BMW X1 or2 better than a Lexus ?? you´re kidding !!
Still don't like the grill.
I agree. They really need to get rid of it. It looks so Fisher-Price to me.
Lexus👍
Does this have auto-dimming rear view mirrors?
So, with the current situation the 450h+ will probably be selling close to $70K. Ouch!
I'll probably wait another year for the RX350 redesign.
Younger buyers with that design? I think not. At least not the ones that can afford actual design.
Great video, as always.
Fix that ugly grill!!
Make it more fun (dynamic) to drive
Stop data minding people’s lives
Stop adding features most people won’t use making it more expensive what it should be
Interior is nice but too blend too generic
Sir, did you ask lexus team, if it is best selling suv, same time its the best suv for theft in Canada.
So, I moved away from suv to sedan. Lexus hasn't done much to protect their products. We pay the price. Not good
Decent video but all the commercials are really annoying.
The Lexus NX+ plug in hybrid costs more than the RX 350.
If you really want one, expect to pay around $60-70K for the 450h+. To this day I've seen exactly ONE Rav4 Prime on the road.
Hybrid or even PHEV should be standard. If this is Toyota’s future, where is the BEV? Honestly, Tom, after driving BEV for 7 years, any exhaust note sounds disgusting to me. Toyota is such a disappointment.
Lexus..always 5 years behind of others in tech
The Lexus interface and controls user experience design feels like when a bunch of boomers who are excited by touch technology suddenly want it on everything. Please learn from Mazda at least. Jesus.
I really dislike the Lexus spindle grille on this model.
Required premium fuel...? There goes the "attractive price point". Thanks, but no thanks, Toyota. And why is no car reviewer on UA-cam mentioning the type of fuel injection on new cars?
Most new Toyotas have D4S or on the 4 cylinder Dynamic Force. Direct and port injected
Huge ugly tablet. Whenever a rep keeps repeating it is cool, responsive and intuitive it means it is dated, slow and cannot be used without reading the user manual. The only thing I like is temperature indication inside the knobs, but this is not new.
Passssss
Just adopt android automotive Lexus. Use the Google suite.
Hate the grill still, disappointing overall Lexus
