Run-flats are brutal. First thing I did on my Alfa Romeo Giulia was to remove them and put on Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4's. Carry a dedicated flat repair kit and compressor and you will be able to handle any flat. For those time when you have a major blowout, runflats ain't gonna help either. Nothing worse than a luxury vehicle with loud tires.
That was the first ever coffee cup holder test that I ever seen done in a car review. It look's like it did well with the speed bump test. Great review!
personally love the e-latch system…it makes more sense to grab the handle and press the button where your thumb would naturally rest instead of pulling on a door latch and then moving your hand to grab the handle…plus the added pedestrian safety aspect…it is very windy where I live, in the moment it takes to move your hand from the latch to the handle your door gets blown open with force…the e-latch will definitely make a difference as you already have a firm grip on the handle when it releases…

Hey Zack. I'm the one guy who likes his run flat tires! :) I've been driving a 2019 BMW X3 for 2 and a half years with run flat tires and been very happy to know that I won't be stranded somewhere with a flat tire in the rain, snow or soaring heat. Had two punctures over this period and BMW replaced both at no additional cost to me. (I am paying $15 a month for this free tire replacement feature, but worth it to me.) If it wasn't for the much higher price of run flats, people would love them more! But the function definitely gives piece of mind. And it's not noticeably louder, especially not in the city. Cheers from Vancouver.
Great review! 👏 Its good to see Lexus coming out with all new updated models. The NX packs a long list of features, and the interior looks fantastic with the new 14" screen interface and design language. I still like the Genesis GV70 however and would definitely cross shop the two models.
I was waiting for this, thank you! Pre-ordered my NX 350 Turbo AWD F Sport here in Australia and can't wait to test drive it! Also the point about the BMW X3 being better, agreed that BMW offers better handling/driving dynamics. That was one of the other vehicles I shortlisted in this segment but the M40i is super expensive and the other engines are less powerful than the 2.4 Turbo on the NX. The xDrive30i is close to it but costs more - and even more when we add in some packs to get some of the features that are standard on this NX. Sadly, Acura is not available here in Australia. So, looking at the retained value, reliability and ownership costs of Lexus vs BMW, I'd pick Lexus any day! Genesis has worse resale value than BMW as you guys quoted in your GV70 review. I'd go for BMW only if I was filthy rich.
LEXUS > German brands One good thing about Genesis in Canada is the $0 cost of ownership besides gas.. they offer a free maintenance for 5 years together with 5 years comprehensive warranty..
what alot of people dont know and why toyota cars are handling leaps and bounds becuasue when toyota & BMW made the z4/supra....toyota got the handling tech from BMW & BMW got the HYBRID tech from toyota plus their braking etc
Can I just say that I like run-flats. It's nice to know that a high-speed blowout isn't going to cause any drama and that extra space is worth having. Sure, the ride is firmer and there's a marginal increase in noise but they're a small price to pay.
in terms of the horsepower, don't forget that this NX weighs over 4,000 lbs... that's a lot to haul even with 275bhp. But I could live with that I guess because of Toyota quality. Appreciate the honest review like with the Shifter, and no reclining rear seat... really in a luxury SUV...
Great video Andrea! This very nice but shifter is kind of odd. I laughed when you guys hit the speed bump and I had to see that twice. 😆 great job Andrea! 👍🏻👏🏻👊🏻
That shifter looked easy to manipulate, do you think it would be good for someone with arthritus? Maybe that's what the door handle is about? Good think coffee's come with firmly attached lids, that was some bump lol.
My girlfriend just ordered an NX350 with the Ultra Luxury package, which is essentially identical to the car you tested, minus the HUD, the F Sport suspension/active dampers, and the F Sport styling. Same interior/exterior colours. It's supposed to be arriving on October 8th. Exciting!
I am with you Zac on the “leave things alone,” there is no logical reason to change the door handles to make the touch sensitive or to change the shift lever to something unintuitive. If it works and works well, just leave it be.
Although I’m not the greatest RAV4 fan... I do, oddly, like this new NX (particularly the base gasoline variant). Compared to an overpriced unexceptional FULLY loaded RAV, this NX seems to be a bit of a bargain. The materials, the technology and the reliability alone justify leaping over to the the Lexus Family. The far to common RAV4 has (and fairly so) become the goto CUV and becoming the one to beat. So... Congratulations Lexus in doing so. Thanks for the video.
I think when it comes to the performance I must say I quite like the NX 450h Plug in hybrid model. It's got 302 hp despite it being a hybrid vehicle. Couple things I am a bit disappointed with the NX are the relatively smaller digital dash (I believe it's about 7 iniches), and 2nd row seats not reclining, and it again might be my issue only but I wish the NX still had the Lexus badge in the rear of the vehicle instead of just the L E X U S words on the back. I do know other car brands have been doing this on all of their cars or some of their flagship models, but personally in my opinion the rear design of the 1st gen NX looked quite better than the new gen's rear design.
Good points (both comments). I just don’t trust putting my (too) hard earned cash into hybrid technology... yet. (Despite being the most reliable hybrids on the market).
This is a huge improvement over the last NX. I've never bought a Lexus. Their quality is top notch but their designs have been way over the top for me. But somehow this has cleaned up the design language and it looks very sharp. AND which level of trim would you go for Zack?
Thank you for this video. I’m planning on getting the NX 350 Fsport. Any truth to the rumors that we won’t be able to buy one until after the first of the year?
@@naveenthemachine yes I agree. Although it is a shock when you don't see the humps when they are in shade. I had mum yell out speed hump as I am driving a road I should know well. Yes I am a huge Dukes of Hazzard fan. Thanks from Melbourne Australia. 250 days in lockdown city.
Bizarre to me that the Japanese manufacturers have such a hard time designing cohesive interiors in their premium brand products. They do fine for the most part in the mainstream stuff, but they often lose the plot when tarting things up. RDX is no different IMO.
It's because of CAFE standards. They want to get better fuel economy all around so manufacturers are forced to take all sorts of measures to see a reduction in fuel consumption over the entire fleet. You'll notice they use low viscosity oil (0W20), start stop, cylinder deactivation, spare tire delete, automatic decoupling of the AWD system and turbocharging. All of that doesn't benefit the individual customer but lowers the fleet consumption.
I agree with the sentiment of not changing things just for the sake of change. It's so unnecessary and ends up making things that were simple, more cumbersome.
Hi great review. Thanks for adding the Canadian pricing. Does that include freight and prep? And do you have the up-charge for the 350 with Fsport and the 450h+ with Fsport?
Such a nice looking vehicle. Not sure if the backseat area has temperature control. That to me is more important than Andrea’s heated steering wheel :):) Can you two please add this to your reviews when a car has to is available as an option? As a luxury brand it really should have it … Acura RDX does and is cheaper. I don’t like the bright white of the huge info screen when items are being selected. I just watched Straightpipes review and there are a lot of quirky things with the info system … when volume knob is adjusted … screen is interrupted to show volume change … entirely blanking out other info for a few seconds. Etc.
I just want to point out these are prototype models that we were able to drive, something that Lexus and Toyota don't ever allow, they will all be crushed and not sold. Straight pipes may have had some issues with the infotainment screen, we didn't. But, with the chip shortage, it's been difficult for manufacturers. We are just happy we were able to drive one. So things are definitely not perfect in these prototype vehicles, but they aren't the finished product. We can definitely add in temperature control in the backseat, thanks for the tip.
I work for Lexus for actually since 1992 when it was introduced in the country and have been service manager I can't say I'm impressed by this vehicle this vehicle belongs having 390 to 400 horsepower and the dash is quirky don't like the shifter either and I don't care for the turbos because they're in my opinion and over the many many years I work for Lexus they will fail and when they fail you have to be ready to Shell about 2,500 out so I don't want a terrible in any car I drive
Fantastic video team. Been looking forward to this one as this car is a serious consideration with the hybrid model. Those run flat tires are a major disappointment.
Oh, I don't know. Just sat in a 2022 NX a few days ago. Raised the car seat to suit my height of 5'7". Still, trying to look over the hood at the road was like trying to look over a mountain. Uhhh. And such a cramped looking cabin. I just walked away. In contrast, the new 2022 ES300h is a delight, so spacious, big trunk, even a spare tire despite being a hybrid. That's the one for me. Too bad, I was so looking forward to the NX. For me, gas mileage is important; it is 44 miles a gallon (USA gallons) for the ES300h. The NX hybrid is pretty darn good at 39 mpg. Awesome mileage for an SUV, I'd say. Lexus cars are hard to come by these days due to the global chip shortage, and dealers give zero discounts now. Some charge thousands more than list price is what the dealer said.
Why are car manufacturers using so much piano black finishes on all the touch points on the dash and centre console. It drives me crazy when I see fingerprints smudged all over those areas. I would prefer mat black or satin finish or even some fabric finishes.
Two reasons. It looks good when brand new (and pretty much only brand new) making the vehicle look premium during the test drive and it’s cheap to produce. I think it’s terrible and no “luxury” vehicle should have piano black plastic.
Runflat tires cost more, rougher riding and are not suppose to be repaired when they have a puncher. So if your unrepairable runflat is worn more than 10% you will be forced to buy 4 very expensive tires. Like you said, they did something that no one was asking for.
@Motormouth, thanks again for another wonderful review. I find your reviews practical somehow. Anyways, I decided to get the GV70 2.5T after watching the reviews and test driving it. I did test drive the Q5 and X3 but the interior where most of the time I will be in touch with the car didn't compare well to the GV70. I get delivery day after tomorrow. But now I am having some tough time with the Lexus Badge Snobs in my family. How do I handle them???? :D
In our testing, we beat the Lexus-estimated acceleration to 60 mph by a full half-second, hitting 60 in 5.5 seconds versus the quoted 6.0-second time. That's quicker than the other 2022 NX models we've tested, but a 2021 XC60 Recharge reaches 60 in a MotorTrend-tested 5.0 seconds. We haven't yet tested a Q5 plug-in, but Audi estimates its model to be just as quick as the Volvo. In case you wonder, the lighter-weight RAV4 Prime matches the NX450h+'s 5.5-second time to 60. This means the NX plug-in hybrid is both the quickest NX money can buy and the slowest SUV in its tiny segment.
@@vinayshsureshram277 Lexus doesn’t chase Acura genesis or the Germans in performance Even the most powerful nx450h+ is slower than the Acura RDX that’s 15K less expensive The nx350 turbo is slower than all its German competitors and even cheaper brands. The CX5 signature or even the Santa Fe calligraphy are faster than the nx turbo. Even most family sedans in their top end engine are way faster too…
Nice review. I can’t agree more with Zack on Lexus should bring the actual door release back. And for the price, that’s a tough topic. If you are lucky, you won’t be charged the dealership adjustment. I would go for the gv70 instead of the turbo nx, or the v6 gv70 instead of the phev nx. Boy oh boy, gv70 looks so good.
I'd take the GV70 as well. It's not really the same, since it rides on a rwd platform and the NX is a really a fancy RAV4. BTW, the GV70 uses it's own 8 speed and not the ZF8 speed.
Very impressed with The NX we bought 2 in the premium trim.. one turbo & the other a hybrid..got used the shifter best Lexus to date! RDX had no hybrid & the interior is outdated.. would not consider an Audi a non-reliable😅 total refinement
Call me insecure but no spare tire is a no-no to me - plus the cost of replacement tires. The ''noisy engine'' in the RDX can be solved by disconnecting the ''active sound'' module. Still happy with my A Specs!
only 3 more HP compare to RDX lol, look at the Torque before comparing it to RDX. That's why this Engine will be popular, it's got torque. It feels better than most V6 out there. Perfect engine to me in my opinion. Power, speed, yet still saves gas due to small displacement engine.
Far too gimmicky, I agree with Zach. I much prefer the styling of the Genesis G70 to this Lexus. However, the Mazda CX-5 Signature Turbo might still be the overall best bargain buy in comparison. Although, Lexus resale value is hard to argue with..... awesome video as always, enjoy your work!! =)
No more spare tire = 4 RunOnFlat tires equipped that could last only 30-50k miles and then you will need to pay $1200 - $1600 to get them all replaced ; compared to regular $180/regular tire in the best category that last at least 60k - 80k miles.
That speed bump moment 🤣😂
That needs to be included in the "best of" for this channel.

@joshua trees personally i prefer my service manager to be well versed in car repairs rather than punctuation... Run out of papers to grade at work?
Fantastic video team. Been looking forward to this one as this car is a serious consideration with the hybrid model. Those run flat tires are a major disappointment.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
What’s your opinion on the NX vs RX? RX is their best selling, but no RX update until 2023!
I am interested in the NX450h+, so I am most interested in knowing what the extra $15,000 comes with when compared to the Toyota RAV4 Prime.
Our NX 450h+ review goes out next Saturday.
@@andreaspencer9813 I will be sure to watch it
Runflat tires cost more, rougher riding and are not suppose to be repaired when they have a puncher.
Take them for a drive....
NX's new infotainment system is good enough to choose over the mousepad variety in the RDX, let alone the hybrid and PHEV versions.
Hi Zack, did it have the same headroom issue on the passenger front that the Rav 4 had? Is it equal to the drivers side? Great review! Thanks!!
Height adjustable on the trim we had.
Please review the NX350H.
I'm with you, why reinvent the wheel?
Is the 0-60mph time as bad as some of the reviewers are saying?
What ?
@@Toyota4Life check the Redline Reviews channel's review. They're saying the 350 Turbo is slow and doesn't hold true to lexus' 0-60 time claim
@@vinayshsureshram277 here’s the best answer: if it’s a Lexus, yeah 0-60 times are as bad as you would expect.
@@competitiveautomotive5457 and why is that?
@@vinayshsureshram277 Lexus doesn’t chase Acura genesis or the Germans in performance
Even the most powerful nx450h+ is slower than the Acura RDX that’s 15K less expensive
The nx350 turbo is slower than all its German competitors and even cheaper brands. The CX5 signature or even the Santa Fe calligraphy are faster than the nx turbo. Even most family sedans in their top end engine are way faster too…
Why is the NX a compact and the XT4 a subcompact?
beautifull very nice narrative.❤🎉
and besutifull car.mone coming next month
Nice review. I can’t agree more with Zack on Lexus should bring the actual door release back. And for the price, that’s a tough topic. If you are lucky, you won’t be charged the dealership adjustment. I would go for the gv70 instead of the turbo nx, or the v6 gv70 instead of the phev nx. Boy oh boy, gv70 looks so good.
I'd take the GV70 as well. It's not really the same, since it rides on a rwd platform and the NX is a really a fancy RAV4. BTW, the GV70 uses it's own 8 speed and not the ZF8 speed.
@@johnholst ohh, really? My bad. I though the gearbox was outsourced because the 8 speed on the gv70 works equally well as the zf for daily driving
@@isaacwalker6646 Yes, most reviews I've seen also say the Genesis 8 speed is very very good.
450h is where it’s at, I want one so bad😭
Very impressed with The NX we bought 2 in the premium trim.. one turbo & the other a hybrid..got used the shifter best Lexus to date! RDX had no hybrid & the interior is outdated.. would not consider an Audi a non-reliable😅 total refinement
Call me insecure but no spare tire is a no-no to me - plus the cost of replacement tires. The ''noisy engine'' in the RDX can be solved by disconnecting the ''active sound'' module. Still happy with my A Specs!
Do you like the red Rojia intérior ?
Acura RDX A-Spec @6:59. A better car overall!
Looked like he was wanting to race too 😆
Agreed. Anything else > nx
only 3 more HP compare to RDX lol, look at the Torque before comparing it to RDX. That's why this Engine will be popular, it's got torque. It feels better than most V6 out there. Perfect engine to me in my opinion. Power, speed, yet still saves gas due to small displacement engine.
I will take GV70 over this new NX any day. This is just Lexis RAV4.
The NX turbo gas base is roughly the same starting price as the RDX base in the US, but I’m pretty sure Lexus is more reliable.
Can u review the new Lexus LS that also has the new interface
Far too gimmicky, I agree with Zach. I much prefer the styling of the Genesis G70 to this Lexus. However, the Mazda CX-5 Signature Turbo might still be the overall best bargain buy in comparison. Although, Lexus resale value is hard to argue with..... awesome video as always, enjoy your work!! =)
Oh yeah. As I predicted anything beats the nx. Even the cx5 signature turbo. , Rdx, gv70 or even the Hyundai Santa Fe calligraphy or tuscon limited
No more spare tire = 4 RunOnFlat tires equipped that could last only 30-50k miles and then you will need to pay $1200 - $1600 to get them all replaced ; compared to regular $180/regular tire in the best category that last at least 60k - 80k miles.
