Fumanchu was is a negative stereotype of Asians back in the 40's 50's etc. That's why Marvel has shied away from it understandably. The Mandarin fits in with that stereotype as the term ''Mandarin'' literally means Chinese government official. This is why Shane Black changed it up for his script but I guess Marvel has now found a way to make it work and we're going to see the real Mandarin soon.
They can still use the name and just make it not racist. It was a negative stereotype because of the ignorance of the people at that time and all the actors had to be white. I think the Mandarin had the "fumanchu" mustache but he was already badass and I would rather he be a super villain of chinese decent that looks similar to David Lo Pan from Big Trouble in Little China, than Ben Kinglsey as himself. Any other name they pick will sound racist to somebody. But Fu Manchu was played by Nicholas Cage in one movie, so there might be other reasons why they won't use this character. I treat this character the same as I would Pai Mei.
I am blown away Captain Marvel made that much money. I went to see it for the hidden history of Nick Fury and to see what can beat Captain Marvel. The casting of Swinton as "The Ancient One" wasn't done because of any stereotypes or as a diversity move. It was done so as not to ruffle the feathers of China by having the character be of Tibetan origin, as he was in the comic.
This should be upvoted way more than what it is. I have had to explain this to so many people crying about "whitewashing." Choose someone who is Chinese and you offend Tibetans. Choose a Tibetan and you offend the Chinese. The gender isn't what would have mattered. I think it is pretty cool that the Ancient One was an old Celtic sorcerer.

#10: the ancient one was changed to swinton for a couple reasons. First, the movie was being developed and released during a controversial time between china and tibet. Showing a tibetan mentor saving the world would probably have led to china not allowing it in their country. Secondly, the MCU is not as focused on magic and instead tries to turn magical situations into technology, so making the switch from fireballs to mental manipulation was necessary. This yogic take on the Sorcerer Supreme aligned with "the winding way" and Margali Szardos, the romanian sorceress supreme.

Wow, I was actually going to say pretty much the same thing. Watched Captain Marvel for the First time a few days ago. Trash Movie. I was one who boycotted it because of the "Controversy" Figuring if this is their marketing for it, it will have a horrible story. Sure enough, I was right, it had a horrible story. However, I often compare this to Panther which too, I did see opening night (Like I had with most Marvel's prior) Due to the controversy, I regret that because This was by far one of the best of the Marvel. The huge difference was that the lead Actor of one didn't represent it as "Black Power, Stopping Whitey from being the Kill Joy." IT was Presented as, "This is the Origin story, this explains the character, this is his strengths weaknesses, struggles, and all around, badass. Contrast this to Captain Marvel and it's "White Men are Evil, White Women Must be represented, Nevermind all the other shit that makes a character likeable." There wasn't any real foundation, they moved through the movie like a mystery novel. the Foundation wasn't in the beginning for me to WANT to like the character. So instead I watched a Bitch who was a asshole throughout the whole movie. I'm sorry, If I wanted to Watch a Bitchy asshat that had no substance I'd have gone and watched any one of Quentin Tarantino. The Characters atleast have a foundation before they are assholes. Star Wars was my Favorite Franchise, until they inserted random faceless, personalityless, actors in the name of Skin Color, Gender, and Non-Gender instead of Character, foundation and substance. There as no connect, there was no invested interest. It was bland. And I'm sorry, There is enough Colored, Gender and Non-Gender people I know that are HELLA lot more colorful than what Disney attempted to "Socially" Insert into Movie Franchises once beloved. Just because a Character is Gay, and Over Represented in EVERY SINGLE Modern day flic in the name of Representation of the .07% of the population doesn't mean we the viewer expect anything less then a Quality character. Take a Que from Game of Thrones, who was able to incorporate Gay characters without taking away character development. Have an entire ORGY of LGBTQ Characters, As long as they have Substance, foundation and character. You take that away and Even the Whitest Male in Hollywood would fail. I.E. Solo.

Diversity is a good thing, and while I agree that forcibly inputting character diversity for a better critique sacrifices character development, Captain Marvel was an excellent movie with a good overall theme. The theme was finding your own identity despite what others may tell you, and the fact that the protagonist was a woman fighting a white man both literally and figuratively is something a lot of women can empathize with today. Remember, white males are only one part of a movies audience. Second of all, automatically disliking a movie because you disagree with the main actor(ess) is pretty dumb.
Fact and Fact. All checked and verified. About the Star Wars bit, Fact, those same vocal minorities you're talking about never hated the Disney films for pushing more female characters. What no one wanted was movies made on hype pushing female characters who had no character development, no personality, and no basis of realism and personal growth, with only the fact that they were female and have that garbage shoved down everyone's throats. No respect for those who in canon that came before them and no depth of self outside of the fact that they were female.

It was changed for one reason: Chinese money. Disney wanted it and knew China wouldn't allow the movie in the country with a Tibetan Ancient One.

I.E. Solo.
@@krisw2534 Dude, chill.
First of all, that is the basic cinematic view that has lead to the white male dominated movie scene.
I don’t agree with Clint Eastwood but I think Kellies Heroes is a pretty good movie.

What’s with the captain marvel n Spider-Man thumbnail what was going on there in the shower!? Hmmm!?
I heard the term "representation" way too many times in this video
That's a you problem
gotta hit those checkboxes
Did Tom Holland nail Brie Larson or not? I'm confused :D
I don't think he did. The thumbnail was a lie.
Who's Brie Larson
@@baruchjauregui188 The girl on the right of the thumbnail.
I Came Lookin' for the Brie Larson 'Oh!' Face Myself...
Of course not. He's a white male, and there's nothing she hates more than that.
watching this after the situation was solved is so satisfying. HE BACK
Well age of ultron is one of my favorites so good job and don't mess it up in the future by butting heads. Iam looking at you Disney
Also fire kk 🔥
I didn't here any real scandels just a whole load of storms in teacups
Nice job with the editing on this video. It’s entertaining. However, I find your commentary is clearly bias to one side. Being PC is one thing, but it’s important to at least attempt to reach across the isle. What about the scandal of all the prepurchased movie tickets for Captain Marvel opening weekend, with hundreds of ‘no shows’ being reported by theaters?
If you continue to paint one side of a conflict as the ‘villains’ or ‘bullies’ then you run the risk of being relegated as part of the narrative pushing propaganda that is only increasing in size and stink, on both sides of the great political divide.
I loved age of Ultron. It set up so much for phase 3.
What Brie Larson said: Hey Peter Parker, got something for me?
What I heard: Ara Ara peter kun
I'm ready Captain Marvel 2/ Doctor Strange 2/ Black Panther 2 / Thor 4/ Guardians 3/ Eternals/ Shang Chi/ Blade/ X-Men/ Fantastic 4/ All the streaming series/ 🔥🔥🔥So much Win!!!
The only one I have hope for is GOTG3. The rest are being politized I've heard. For sure Capt Mary Sue is.
@Pat Mgroin if they make more shit movies you'll be saying that to Marvel
I find the amount of virtual signaling in the video hilarious while being paired with Bree Larson’s “O-face”
Classic hypocrisy 😂
Isn't that the truth thank you
Sauce?
Captain Marvel supposed to be black but hey Disney wasn't down for that.
@@sippycez8597 hey man, how is Disney supposed to get past the Chinese government and sell this product to their population with a strong black womxn as the lead character. Seesh what were you thinking 🤦🏾♂️
@@Montenegro651 Exactly CCP powned! They've put their money on China instead of America. Disney is a pitiful virtue signaling commie sympathizer; a collaborator really may they die and go broke because of their propagandizing for the Chi comms.
Oh boy, did i miss something? This video was so boring i fell asleep.
For #10 about the Ancient One I had heard (which may mean it wasn't true) that the reason they didn't go with an Asian Ancient One is because it should be a Tibetan character and Marvel didn't want to make China mad about considering Tibet an actual group of people. (China and Tibet is pretty much what is happening currently with China and Hong Kong)
Congrats on completely mischaracterizing why star wars fans are unhappy and why so many people took issue with brie Larson.👍👍👍👍👍 #bias
MOLON LABE no one likes brie bruh
Why do people not like the bre chick?
@@susienight6118 she's a condescending, self righteous, hypocritical bitch lol
Susie Night On a more polite take, she vociferously pushed the true Woke narrative (when I say true woke I mean actual quotes and comments like, this movie isn’t for men. Etc.🤔), even though the movie itself was ok and devoid of a lot of that rhetoric. I didn’t think it was as strong as a lot of other MCU films, but it definitely wasn’t the worst. I should point out I didn’t see it in theaters because I assumed (based on Brie’s comments) it would be 2 hrs of man hating BS. AfterI saw it in blu ray, I was surprised (somewhat pleasantly)
@@hamilcar682 didnt she said ' not for men' as a counter to ppl who hate powerful women lead? i mean there are lots of them ,not all but they exist, so maybe ppl shouldnt view it as hating men. I mean she clearly know that that movie isnt ' not for men' and yet she said it, it must be a joke then. tho I didnt watch all of her interview...
It wasn't prominent females that were the problem, it was the fact there was no training visible. She just could, there was no real hardship, she just could.
But obviously critical thought is for others and not CBR.
Rey was a Mary Sue character. Perfect and unstoppable without breaking a sweat. A Disney Princess Chosen One. That and making the males dolts and the females the characters that took action or took command.
No training?
Yeah, the lifetime of hiking, and climbing through wreckage did nothing for Rey's physical condition...
Lmaooo that thumbnail tho 😭😭😭😭😭
Diversity of race and gender shouldn't matter. Diversity of character and story is what should matter.
That’s what ruins a superhero story.
Honor the source material. If the character is a white male, leave him as such. If they are wanting to include a black character or a female, include one that's originally written as such. Tokenizing a character is a slap in the face to those of us who are female /Hispanic /black or whatever because they are saying we aren't worth writing for. They can just make a casting decision to appease us and we'll be so thrilled, we'll buy all the mefch and be all yaasss qween! Except, some of us have read the source material since we're not idiots. Collectivism is always saying that any minority is in need of help. But no, no we aren't. I can actually prefer a white, male character to a female for some other reason. Hawkeye is frequently deaf and gets by on skill alone. He's a bit self-sabatoging. I identify, therefore he's my favorite. When they tokenized him and come out with Kate Bishop, naw. Screw that. An entitled rich girl who takes his name? Nah. I hate her. And then the writer attacked me online, in a discussion she wasn't a part of. Never buying any of her comics. Marvel keeps treating long time comic buying fans with utter disdain and we're starting to buy from other brands en masse. Smaller brands, not DC. Brands who aren't tokenizing to meet their gender and diversity quotas, brands who are just interested in good stories.
Sarah C you are exactly right. Both of you were exactly right
Thank u
LOL ''shouldn't matter'' According to who? some white privlidged?
The whole different Ancient One in Dr. Strange was due to making the Chinese censors happy.
I mean... no one complained about Nick Fury NOT being white anymore... I see no difference there. If you have a problem with the one you must have a problem with the other. It is a SJWs worst nightmare because they have to admit their inconsistencies in ideology.
@@CodeineRadick in the 1610 universe nick fury is black and drawn to look like Sam Jackson. If you dont know anything about the source material just say that.
@@CodeineRadick I don't approve of Nick Fury being black because of tokenism.
Dr. Fu Man Chu... that's classic. It would fall in line perfectly with Disney's ACTUAL history of racism and Walt Disney's horrifying racist nature that the "modern Disney" likes to try to forget ever existed. Seriously, look back at the original movies.
Indeed, Disney wants to forget all the racism from the mid twenty century when political correctness wasn't a thing.
DC comics tries to ignore when Superman said "Slap a Jap." During WW2.
I am sick of your click baity stuff. "Disney would not allow today or tries to bury" You are like the bad kid in class who tries to get attention at all cost.
How about quality?
Age of Ultron may have been a bit all over the place, but at least it still focused on being a good movie. I can't say the same for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Toby: *I miss the part where that's my problem*
@@ray5952 That's because it ain't. You know I wasn't talking about the Original Spider-Man 2 (which is a masterpiece).
2:25 well someone likes to stay in character off camera...Ronan looks like he wants to rip his spine out lol. And the people who oppose Larson aren't a minority...I have never read any positive comments about her on a thread :/
cap marvel has always had a villiany attitude in comics she sucks and currently shes revealed to be evil lol i wanted to smack her face when she smirked at totally new awesome hulk
They crammed her down OUR throats since day 1.
I started collecting comics in 1975.
Marvel would try that shit.
Machine Man, Rom and Capatain Marvel.
If seng Chi is played by Jackie Chan, I might actually watch it.
That would be awesome.
Ded 🤪👻
Exactly
sadly he's too old
Yeah... Chan is just a little bit too old to do this anymore. When he was younger, sure. Maybe Doni Yen from Ip Man? Even if those were Chinese propaganda movies, they were great movies and Doni Yen is just amazing. Not as funny as Jackie, but very talented.
If his name is Fu Manchu in the comics, keep it for the movie. That's like changing Batman's name to Steve Johnson because Bruce Wayne offends someone who wasn't even born when the character was created
I absolutely hate what they did with Ant man in "Ant Man and the Wasp" and in EndGame. Where you are introduced to Scott as a quirky yet brilliant thief smart and cunning in his own right (in the Ant Man) every other movie made him out to be the butt of every joke and honestly, other than delivering a time machine he served no purpose as the funny ha-ha jokes made at his expense didn't land very well.
