Kaweka Hike - Broken Buddy Bails - Kaweka Huts

Leaving Kiwi Mouth Hut at 7:00am we hiked the 780m of elevation up to Backridge Bivvy on a scorching hot day. My dehydrated and tired hiking buddy Kurt made the correct decision to bail the Kawekas via Makahu Saddle while I continued on alone. It was a further 700m drop down to the Rocks Ahead Hut and another 730m climb up to Tira Lodge having hiked 13-14 hours over 28km.
This is my day two Kaweka to Kaimanawa story and the wonderful things I experienced and the hiking wisdom I share with you in the hope that it might inspire you to try something too.
