How to UV Unwrap in Blender - The Easy Way

  • UV'ing in Blender shouldn't be as confusing as some may find it - especially coming from other software like #3dsmax (like i did) or #maya . So here's a short video explaining my process in Blender. It isn't extensive but this is literally all that I do to prepare a mesh for baking. I didn't include something that I felt wasn't totally relating to an exclusively UV'ing video, and that's making sure before you export to set the smoothing groups according to the UV islands. You can do this through Blender by enabling 'Seams from Islands' and then selecting the seams and marking them as sharp edges. Or alternatively use something like Textools (free) and hit smoothing groups from UV islands.

    That just saved me from considering Maya as "ONLY" my go-to tool for game asset creation! Loved the pin tool that's exactly what I was looking for, thanks, Thomas!

      Yeah the pin tool is pretty darn useful tool, especially if you have a triangulated mesh.

    How do you set your normals? Smooth everything or leave as hard?

    • @ArtOfPilgrim
      @ArtOfPilgrim  2 роки тому

      I set hard edges dependent on seams unless there's a seam that doesn't need a hard edge
