  • I used 3ds Max for a long time. One of the first hang-ups i had when transitioning over to blender was making springs/coils. Yeah, there wasn't an obvious way of making them, so i made this video so it's not so confusing.

For those who are getting a sphere look after adding the screw modifier, You need to apply the position by clicking (Ctrl+A)

Why didn't he have to do it in the tutorial?

For anyone wondering, it's because we moved it inside edit mode, so origin point was already at world center, I figured out later.

If anyone gets an funky intersecting shapes make sure that you move the curve in edit mode before applying the modifier and then choose an axis perpendicular to the one that you moved the curve along (for instance he moved the curve along the y axis and then selected the x axis in the modifier tab).
Disclaimer: I am a BEGINNER and this is just what I observe so if you see that anything is wrong PLEASE correct it! Also if you think something would be helpful for this issue please reply and add that!

in max you can get similar usage by using Helix curves and then modify to polygons but am gonna totally use this when i move over to blender

@@anonym439 You need to change "Axis" in the "Screw" modifier properties.
If you notice in the video above, when he first applies the modifier at 0:28, it turns into a sphere but then he changes axis.

@@shiconotebook i know, i followed what he did, X and Y turned it into sphere and Z turnd it into flat circle.
      it just doesn't work

@@anonym439 I just tested it again, it works. The only way that I got a result similar to what you mentioned is when I didn't move the original curve circle in "Edit" mode.
