Good points. There is something here for sure even if I don't love everything about it.
Fair review. I love it but I'm also not crowning it #1 AOTY like some people are. It's definitely high on my end of year list but I've heard metalcore, hardcore, and extreme punk that I enjoy more this year.
as someone from this scene there's this rise of bands who I'd classify as "hardcore for people who grew up on August Burns Red"
this type of hardcore that really isn't a part of the traditional DIY sound, and I feel like Knocked loose became the kings of that "subgenre" which makes me sad, back in 2014 with the pop culture ep they were a solid little hardcore band, but that shift to appeal to a bigger audience led them to use some of the same tropes as the other bands this audience likes
its nice to see them having a little fame not gonna lie, but its not the type of hardcore I want from them
THIS. I've always struggled to articulate what I think of KL's meteoric rise, but that description is perfect.
Like, they absolutely come from the DIY hardcore scene (Bryan shouting out Judge, Dirty Money, Trapped Under Ice and The Chisel in the Amoeba episode, and Isaac being a massive fan of Disembodied, even covering 7 Stitches for Two Minutes To Late Night), but the mainstream metalcore audience they have now has no idea about any of it.
Bilmuri is releasing the best album of the year but this was close 2nd. And Bring Me just dropped a whole ass album without telling anyone.
Let’s not forget Alpha Wolf, Like Moths to Flames, Job For a Cowboy and a likely Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows album soon. My year end is gonna be a battle royale at this rate

This is one of the most honest and fair takes I’ve seen on this band. Most people hate them or love them to way to extreme of a degree 😂
Definitely not surprised that it wasn't exactly your thing, but as someone who digs this kind of music- hell yeah I loved it
It's awesome
I'm not comfortable with how everyone is fawning over this one. All of these songs are produced well, vocals are great, but it just hits that one note constantly and doesn't variate. I've seen people talk about this album alongside classics like Jane Doe (the album in my pfp, my favourite album of all time), but that's a metalcore classic because of the risks it takes and how many different directions it goes in. This is extremely competent but won't do enough to differentiate and stick out for me
