      Not the first time. Earlier this year, Jon gave the new Twenty-One Pilots album a 2.5/5 (Fantano was even harsher with a Light 2) while Mark gave it an 8.

    • @Robdeltonie

      @@alex_flamer Really? I was more on board with Jon's review of Scaled and Icy upon my first few listens, but it strangely grew on me over time. Still can't stand Bounce Man, though... I'll have to give Spectrum Pulse's review of that album a watch!

    • @alex_flamer
      @alex_flamer 2 роки тому +2

      @@Robdeltonie absolutely. I understand why it's surprising though. Mark is obviously a much harsher critic than Jon because he analyzes everything going on behind closed doors surrounding the album. Plus, he knows a lot more about production. I still absolutely love and respect Jon though. I discovered him first and still watch him all the time.

      I love this guy’s review. Very critical at first, but eventually matches my opinion. I think this album as a WHOLE, is the best since Viva La Vida. I just think it should have been a little bit longer. The acoustic versions of higher power and My Universe tops the studio versions, but I totally get what’s he’s saying. The Coldplay from 2008 will never be on the same level because of some of the levels of flops since then. Although….I think Coloratura is one if not the best song they have ever made, and it is a classic closing track. If they didn’t release that song ahead of the time, my opinion would have been much different. People of the Pride is definitely the worst song on the track. It takes me back to their commentary on Violet Hill. The fact they admitted they wanted to sound “cooler” like the other bands, but it’s just way too fake.

    Coloratura and Human Heart definitely were huge highlights in this album. The guest features were pretty good, I didn't expect Selena Gomez to be here but she did a good job on Let Somebody Go. And BTS did surprise me at first but I like how natural this feature is, the languages don't feel forced to be together and the guys sound comfortable with each other! But really though, Jacob Collier and We Are King really were my favourites here. Very pretty song.
    Of course the album had some setbacks too. I for one do not like Biutyful at all. It's interesting yes, but not good.
    Overall I'd rate the album a 7/10, the obvious standouts really carry this album, and it's a mostly pleasing listening experience. Good job Coldplay!

    Man I loved Everyday Life. Thought it was their best since Viva La Vida. I'm an easy sell for anything in the way of "artist tries to get experimental." I haven't heard MOTS yet, and yes I've been a bit worried about the features... but with a 10 minute album closer... hm... I do wonder if this could top EL for me.

      I've listened to most of Coldplay's discography (6 of their 9 albums) and Coldplay is my third favorite band of all-time. The closer (Coloratura) is the second best song Coldplay has ever made. The piano legit reminds me of the piano in "The Great Gig In The Sky" by Pink Floyd.

    I was a huge Coldplay fan back in the day, and one who was disappointed in them for a long time. I personally thought Everyday Life was a better album than Music of the Spheres, but this album didn’t dash my hopes entirely that Coldplay still has great music in them, since I still saw moments of it here (and more than just a song or two).
    I didn’t get as much out of it as you seemed to, but I am glad to see someone giving Coldplay some love.

    So well said Mark. It is Chris's sincerity that has always held me, from Talk to Magic to Higher Power. I feel the Cosmic as were I R0llng, but at times I feel that his loving humanity is also something worn as much as felt. I am nonetheless greatful that he has shared himself and his voice with us 💛

    There's a part in Coloratura that reminds me of the song that was released after Mylo Xyloto, which was Moving to Mars.

  • @AquilaSky21
    @AquilaSky21 3 роки тому +9

    I will agree that this is their best album since Mylo Xyloto and that there is more to this album than most will see or understand. Sure it’s a bit too much with the theme, but I respect the emotion and color in this album. I enjoy it for what this is and I hope it gains more traction.
    High 6/10 to low 7/10, Coldplay made a decent album and I respect what they created.

    I never would've considered Coldplay and moreso Chris Martin's level of genuineness before this review, but now that you've said it... yeah, Chris truly does sound like he believes in what he's putting out with Coldplay, cheesiness and all.
    Overall though, I did enjoy this album. Arguably the best album post-Viva La Vida.

    1) X & Y
    2) Viva La Vida

    4) A head full of dreams
    5) Mylo Xyloto
    6) Parachutes
    7) Ghost Stories
    8) Music of the spheres
    9) Everyday life

    There are some experimental tracks, yet the full album kinda sounds bland to me when I listen to it on one setting. It's not terrible but it's kinda forgettable to me, like cutesy background music. I can't point out what is it... Maybe the some of the choruses melodies weren't strong enough? Maybe it's the lyrics? Maybe if the lyrics were more specific or had some storytelling, it would be more compelling... It has a lot of sweet sentiments and I happen to be a person who can be idealistic too, so I share some of the wide-eyed humanitarian thoughts on this, but, I still find a little hard to not be cynical when I'm listening to it. Or maybe the cover art, marketing and everything surrounding this album gave me too high expectations and that's why it felt underwhelming, I'm not sure... But, I will give it another listen.
    Honestly, I agree with almost all the observations and constructive criticism you mentioned on this review... You really said it all. (Except that I have a more positive view of "Everyday Life" lol)

    huh maybe I should give this one another chance. even as someone who loves Mylo Xyloto and still generally likes A Head Full Of Dreams I found this album to be a major letdown on the one listen I gave it and thought it was a more undercooked rehash of the latter album (and will not deny initially thinking some moves were cynical and the inclusion of crowd cheering especially to be self serving). maybe it'll grow on me tho, it did at least have its moments that clicked for me and I did go in really wanting to like it, your points on its perceived cynicism or lack thereof may be just the perspective I'd need to go in with

    • @RacingWorldTV202
      @RacingWorldTV202 2 роки тому

      I agree. At least with those albums, the whole band showed up and really played their hearts out, and you can especially hear it on Mylo Xyloto (the mixing on AHFOD doesn't do that album any favors). MOTS just doesn't have that. A lot of the band feels really forced out of the picture until you get to Colortura and the band is all there.
      Max Martin's production suits the band but doesn't. Like it sounds like a full band production but it also sounds hollow and inorganic. I know the band has been experimenting, and will continue to, but I miss their works on GS and MX where it was the band trying pop and electronic & it really sounded like it, and not like a stereotypical pop production..

    • @TheWonkyAngle
      @TheWonkyAngle 2 роки тому +1

      @@RacingWorldTV202 see this particular point doesn't really bother me as much since I'm the electronic/ambient music guy and I'm used to this exact kind of production, they really don't do it badly at all and I've been partial to most of their post-VLV work specifically because they started going in that direction and it fit them well. AHFOD is just as pop as this album if not even more so and I still think that's a stronger and more consistent project that I generally think is pretty solid all around.
      now this album has already grown on me a fair bit after Mark's review convinced me to listen to it a second time and I see where all his points are coming from, though my problem is more that the album itself is inconsistent and for every track like Coloratura or My Universe that really clicked for me there's another that's either dull and forgettable (see the Selena Gomez one) or gimmicky and annoying (see Biutyful or again the crowd cheering interlude). I've got no major problems with the concept or direction or even the way it comes together as a whole, album's just kinda all over the place and doesn't really rise to the heights of my favorites from them
      still fully expecting a NOT GOOD or equivalent from Fantano tho

    I think this review is a stretch to defend the album. The lyrics are corny, but that’s not the problem overall. To me, it’s the generic nature of the sounds. And honestly, I can’t see how any of this is better than any song in Everyday Life. Heck, Church alone annihilates all songs in Music of the Spheres.
    The songs I like here are I like Humankind, and ♾. Maybe ❤️ and People of the Pride can grow on me though. My Universe and Higher Power are radio friendly songs that are just ok.

    I'm not a Coldplay fan at all, but I love Max Martin, so I was super excited for this album since it's the first album ever in which every track has direct involvement from Max.
    Haven't properly digested it, yet, but my biggest disappointment right away was that out of the 9 new tracks released, three of them were intro/interludes, with only the intro being somewhat relevant. So we "lost" 2 potential songs, and out of the 6 remaining, one is an instrumental track and the other abuses unnecessary voice effects. It still surprises me that Max was okay with releasing Biutyful.
    Overall, I feel like the major problem with the album was that neither Coldplay or Max properly did what they're good at. To me it was pushed in different directions that caused this inconsistency in sound. These feels like the least Max Martin sounding Max Martin tracks, in my opinion.
    It'll probably grow on me, though, since I'm super biased towards Max. Right now I would give it a 6 to 7 out of 10.

    • @WCD199317

      Same thing. This album was very experimental and not a typical sound production of Max Martin, it's sound like a sountrack movie and i love instrumental stuff. The instrumentals is beautiful in this album. but i like very well this album and i didn't fan of Coldplay at the base. i like his work of Max Martin for Céline Dion, Backstreet Boys, Katy Perry or Ariana Grande.
