Are you aware of what I listen to? No, then don't be such a presumptuous prick. Music elitists such as yourself are the worst because you're so fucking close-minded and dogmatic that you believe that only what you perceive as "good music" or "real music" is the standard or the norm we all must conform. To the contrary, it's all subjective. There's no such thing as "computer musicians" in my perception music has never been about how well an individual can play an instrument but the emotions and feeling the music can evoke from the listener. So, with all due respect, take that bias and open your mind and never assume what you don't know because you know what that makes you. God bless.
Classy reply man, to someone not trying to insult you personally but ....a reaction to decades of samples and drum-machine handlers' "music" when it's not even in the same league as these geniuses. But kudos to you for having the ears to appreciate SD and Fagen's music.
Steely Dan isn’t a band; they are an entity. Steely Dan is Donald Fagen and Walter Becker (now deceased, sadly.). They chose their session musicians perfectly on each production. No other with which to compare them. Simply, THE BEST!
Broke my heart when Walt passed away, been loving this band since the early 80's they are as "tight" a band that you will ever hear on the level of James Brown's band.
I am so happy my black buddies are loving a band which I have loved for years I am 51 this may destroy all racial barriers and make us one god bless thankyou
Backing vocals are three ladies who are on some of the best tracks ever: Clydie King, Sherlie Matthews and Venetta Fields. Thanks to UA-cam, you can see Sherlie and Clydie with Linda Ronstadt singing “You’re No Good” live on the Midnight Special in 1975.
If you have gone to a Steely Dan concert, it's filled with musicians, they are truly admired. We listened to this in the late 1970s. So much fun in a field with 50 to a 100 cars with bonfire and kegs and weed. The cops would come and take our booze and tell us to be good kids. Back to getting more booze and dance till the sun came up! Great memories! 💞✌
Glad you listened to Black Cow. As others have said, you cannot go wrong with any track off of Aja for it is a journey through symphonic pleasure. Deacon Blues is a tribute to a sax player who lived life hard and had no regrets. It's a beautiful tribute and you should give a listen to. WORD!
Other Steely Dan tunes of note: "Dirty Work", "Reelin' In the Years" (1972) "Bodhisattva", "My Old School" (1973) "Rikki Don't Lose That Number", "Any Major Dude Will Tell You" (1974) "Black Friday", "Doctor Wu" (1975) "Kid Charlemagne", "Haitian Divorce" (1976) "Deacon Blues", "Josie" (1977) "Babylon Sisters", "Hey Nineteen" (1980)
Don't forget Lord Tyrique and Peter Guns, "Uptown". But if you like tged groove on the Aja album you'd probably love the groove on "Time Put Of Mind" on the Gaucho album. And...have you noticed that a lot of their songs are about drugs and hookers?
☺ Spicy groove! The Hip Hop in you is why Black Cow was highly recommended. Now time for "No Static, no static, no static at all. FM (No Static) at all! 😉🐰 #ENRGYZRBunny
You have just dicovered that you are a fan of Steely Dan. You'll like almost everything in their vast music catalogue. All through the 70s, these guys popped out not only hit after hit song, but entire albums with every song a hit song. Sort of a Rock/Jazz fusion. Unbelievable lyrics in their songs.
1:19 The instrument in the background is a Clavinet. They were very popular in the seventies. Lots or hit records from the seventies had Clavinets on them...
Other Steely Dan tunes that You NEED to Check Out............................These are HITS! "Reelin' In the Years" (72) "My Old School" (73) "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" (74) "Deacon Blues" (74) "Josie" (77) "Hey Nineteen" (80)
As always, it is a delight to watch your reactions. Steely Dan's funk is phenomenal, and your listening helps me put their work into a wider perspective. It's great that you appreciate what we heard, but it's even better to see how you fit the music into your worldview - which is different from us baby-boomers' viewpoint. A new perspective is seldom a bad idea, and I appreciate the guts you show in putting yours out here.
The Dan never released anything that wasn't ready. They supposedly mixed this album 2 years before releasing it. Oh and another vote for Kid Charlemagne next.
Two years? That is hard to imagine. Aja came out in 1977. The Royal Scam came out in 1976. Katy Lied came out in 1975. Where’d they get the time to sit on this for two years?
Glamour Profession, Green Earrings, Dont Take Me Alive, Josie, Black Friday, Any Major Dude Will Tell You, Pretzel Logic, Babylon Sisters, Bad Sneakers, Sign in Stranger, Haitian Divorce, Bodhisvatta, Night by Night, Royal Scam, King of the World, Caves of Altimera, Hey Nineteen, Boston Rag, Peg, Aja, etc
Yes Donald and Walter liked to use different musicians on their pieces, but they new exactly what they wanted from each one. It was not unusual for them to try different guys on the same instrument and check their flow before deciding which they wanted to use. Try "Kid Charlemagne"...it was sampled by Kanye
There's a clavinet in there played by Joe Sample of The Crusaders and that's Tom Scott blowing the tenor solo. Larry Carlton of the Crusaders on guitar, chuck Rainey on bass...google any of those names and you will see they are all virtuoso's, and that's just this tune...Walter and Donald were all about collaborations.
Best band ever!!! been my fav since I was 14 in 74 lost in a haze chasing the dragon waiting for Josie from Barrytown but Katie lied drinking whiskey with doctor Wu who had bad sneakers with gold teeth and a little deacen blues from any other world maybe Aja could be any major dude and the list goes on and on..
First time viewer, huge smile on my face the entire video. I remember listening to this for the first time and making face expressions when the song just gets that groove going as well, this group does that to you. Oh man does it feel good. Enjoy the rest of Steely, they have a massive collection of songs just as good as this, but many other genre influences. I subbed, about to check out more, take care.
Cleanest album you will ever hear!! Aja won the Grammy Award for Best Engineered Recording - Non-Classical and received Grammy nominations for Album of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals
That whole soundtrack was dope! Only time in my recollection where a music soundtrack outperformed a movie. "FM" was my favorite track off the self-titled movie & soundtrack, one of my favorite offerings by Steely Dan for sure!
I bought it upon it's release and I couldn't get it off my turntable for a very long time and it remains one of the few albums I still listen to in it's entirety.
In case you'd like to go a little darker, check out "Don't Take Me Alive." Love the deep lyrics, and great guitar work. Classic rock, comedy and Nightwish reviews. Hard to believe I've found a reviewer who covers all the categories I tend to look for, and is thoughtful and personable as well. Keep up the good work. Video volume could be a little louder, but that's my only "complaint."
btw...a Black Cow is a mixed drink that is either a Root Beer Float or a Coca Cola Float, with Kahlua mixed in. Sometimes they add half and half to make it creamier.
Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz Deja Vu(Uptown Baby) had a hit with sampling this song but they did not obtain permission from Steely Dan prior to releasing the song and ended up having to give up all publishing rights and profits from the song.
...and shelled out $100k in punitive damages. Becker & Fagen are on video laughing about getting paid that cash settlement money for doing absolutely nothing but having a good attorney on retainer...
Listen to Aja, a great album by Steely Dan. A lot of jazz, blues, funk, rock with the participation of musicians of Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour, Wayne Shorter, Steve Gadd and Michael McDonald, among many others.
Rex Holes ...actually, it’s Paul Humphrey who played drums on this track. Bernard Purdie played on Aja and a few other cuts from the album...but not on Black Cow.
Ve"been watching some of your videos of songs I've listened for a long time . I'm amazed at how you pick everything , every detail, damn you got a good year and got such a great musical sense ! Keep it up !
Their professional musicians. Not the computer musicians you listen to.

Thanks i've been listening to them since nineteen seventy six@@ronrobbins2737
Black Cow is my all-time favorite song! Steely Dan RULES.
The Dan has the ability to expose the darkness, damage, and despair of the soul, but will push music to its peak. Unmatched
Steely Dan isn’t a band; they are an entity. Steely Dan is Donald Fagen and Walter Becker (now deceased, sadly.). They chose their session musicians perfectly on each production. No other with which to compare them. Simply, THE BEST!
BOOM! Mic drop....
Truth!
Broke my heart when Walt passed away, been loving this band since the early 80's they are as "tight" a band that you will ever hear on the level of James Brown's band.
Perfect description of Steely Dan
"Josie" is another Steely Dan song with great groove
Thomas P ., yes!
Thomas P . Jim Keltner, the drummer on Josie, has been my close friend for 60 years!
I am so happy my black buddies are loving a band which I have loved for years I am 51 this may destroy all racial barriers and make us one god bless thankyou
You are so correct man!

Thanks for propping their names. That's righteous cool and noble of You.
Steely Dan at their very best.
Any Steely Dan song is GREAT!!!!
I have so much more appreciation for Steely Dan as a middle aged adult than I did as a kid when they were in their hey day.
My favourite band, and i'm English, meaning we have a vast choice, but SD are on another planet with their perfection in music.
Nice pick. The entire album is so good, especially Aja and I Got the News.
Great job, love you like Steely Dan. Kid Charlemagne and Green Earrings.
The whole Aja album is incredible!
Simply phenomenal as always with the Great Steely Dan bro ❤️💫☝️
"FM (no static at all)" and "Hey 19" by Steely Dan. You'll love them both.
every single SD song... a work of art

“Do It Again” is a terrific Steely Dan song!
Forever a Steely Dan fan...❤💖❤🤩👍👍
"Do It Again" is a such a mood and a vibe. Hustlin back in the day Steely Dan style.
Steely Dan the smoothest of the smooth.
☺ Spicy groove! The Hip Hop in you is why Black Cow was highly recommended. Now time for "No Static, no static, no static at all. FM (No Static) at all! 😉🐰 #ENRGYZRBunny
Steely Dan has been sampled so many times in hip-hop, De La Soul made a whole beat from sampling their song Peg.
De la did nice work with Steely Dan
Absolutely a song that's tasty and full of sauce 🔥🔥
You got it, Son, jazz, blues, and yes, the FUNK...gotta have it...
That sound is a switch on Donald Fagan's keyboard. He's a genius!
One of a few albums I can listen to all the way through. Next Steely Dan try The Royal Scam!!
You got the best musical instincts of anyone reacting right now.
If you've been at their concerts you see many musicians in the crowd. Steely Dan is the band to see live! Incredible and powerful experience!
You have just dicovered that you are a fan of Steely Dan. You'll like almost everything in their vast music catalogue. The more steely Dan you hear the more you're going to like them. Others have said this: there are no bad steely Dan songs.
It's a joy watching Steely Dan reeling in new young fans. Great reaction. :))))
1:19 The instrument in the background is a Clavinet. They were very popular in the seventies. Lots or hit records from the seventies had Clavinets on them...
My favorite song off this album is "Josie". A killer groove.
Kid Charlemagne should be your next reaction!
Definitely the logical next song
yes
Was going to say Kid Charlemagne but decided to first look at the replies, and... Wham!! :) 3 votes in a row.
they sample this in 94
Caves of Altamira 😍
Steely Dan always knew how to make drums sound great. 1977
70's engineers knew how to get the best sounding drums. Tight warm punches
They had the best session drummers in the business.
@@boscogong4242
Steve Gadd, etc., etc., etc.
I love seeing the new generation react to songs from my youth. This band taught me how to groove on drums!
I've been jammin to Steely Dan for at least 50 years & still jammin. San Antonio , Texas
Other Steely Dan tunes that You NEED to Check Out............................These are HITS!
"Reelin' In the Years" (72)

YES!!! You are gettin the Steely Dan fix. Many, many have sampled them. Again, pure greatness!
So glad to hear love for the snare. This song is THE example for a perfectly executed 70’s snare tone. It’s so greasy sounding. Love ir

Donald Fagan uncle got him in jazz clubs to listen when he was 16 years old. great channel.
These guys are/were serious musicians. Another level! Good reaction, as always!
The Dan are awesome man, they had a shitload of killer session players on this whole album, the whole album is a banger for real.

Uptown baby, uptown baby....We gets down baby, up for the crown baby.
So glad you on to STEELY DANs great music🎶
Think you’ll also like the vibe of Babylon Sisters and Glamour Profession - should be time well spent
I don't like to use the way-too-oft-used word "underappreciated", but Glamour Profession is severely underappreciated. What a story, what a groove.
Im discovering this music I grew up with all over again through these reaction videos it's amazing it's beautiful
No cake in these donuts, just pure cream.
Cleanest album you will ever hear!! Aja won the Grammy Award for Best Engineered Recording - Non-Classical and received Grammy nominations for Album of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals
Another great Dan cut -- keep 'em coming!
“FM” (no-static at all) by Steely is a good one you’ll enjoy
That whole soundtrack was dope! Only time in my recollection where a music soundtrack outperformed a movie. "FM" was my favorite track off the self-titled movie & soundtrack, one of my favorite offerings by Steely Dan for sure!
The version that has all 3 outros WHEN you do it.
If only you could have been there back in day. Real instruments etc. and this band I saw 4-5 times. My favorite. 💕 Thank you.
I graduated high school 1977 when Steely Dan Asia came out. Enjoying You are a channel
I love watching hip hop fans recognizing the samples.
"Reelin' In The Years" is a great one by them. Samples do that in a sense.
Best background singers ever.
Fantastic album... Start to finish...
I bought it upon it's release and I couldn't get it off my turntable for a very long time and it remains one of the few albums I still listen to in it's entirety.

King of the world! The beginning of this song was also sampled for uptown baby.
Real music!! NO sampling!!
"Time Out Of Mind" off the Gaucho album is my fav...but you should probably just listen to "Deacon Blues" next..it's essential.
Nice bro. Do Aja or Deacon Blues next
btw...a Black Cow is a mixed drink that is either a Root Beer Float or a Coca Cola Float, with Kahlua mixed in. Sometimes they add half and half to make it creamier.
Gotta check out Home at Last by Steely Dan. One of the smoothest songs ever recorded
Great song very underrated
An underrated song by Steely Dan ... Chain Lightening. Short but very sweet song.
Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz Deja Vu(Uptown Baby) had a hit with sampling this song but they did not obtain permission from Steely Dan prior to releasing the song and ended up having to give up all publishing rights and profits from the song.
That's the famous one that sampled the intro.
...and shelled out $100k in punitive damages.
Becker & Fagen are on video laughing about getting paid that cash settlement money for doing absolutely nothing but having a good attorney on retainer...
BRO...out of ALL the S/D joints- This is the ONE !
Great reaction. You're one of the best. I like how you know your instruments and can understand song structure and what makes a song good.
Your reaction has won me over! Nice...
Loved your reaction, man. Steely Dan is iconic. You gotta do Deacon Blues...absolute mellow SD masterpiece and probably my favorite.
Very smooth. Steely Dan helped define my childhood. Love ‘em.
Listen to Aja, a great album by Steely Dan. A lot of jazz, blues, funk, rock with the participation of musicians of Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour, Wayne Shorter, Steve Gadd and Michael McDonald, among many others.
And Chuck Rainey on bass! The whole album is a masterpiece.

I was 16 when this Album came out, nothing I've ever heard since tops it's fidelity or production values.

Deacon Blues is a great song by this awesome band!
