Every musician who plays on every Steely Dan song is a world-class session player. Becker and Fagen hand picked each one. That's why their sound is so perfect.
I was working in a stereo store when Aja came out. All of us (the salespeople) bought our own copies because this was all we wanted to use to demo systems and we didn't want to wait for the store copy. Black Cow and Home at Last paid my rent for quite a while.
I’ll never forget going into the audio rooms back in the day and they would always put on some Dan to have the customers listen to a system. In the old days we all had kick ass home stereos and also a car stereo. Today these kids listen to crappy fake music, with compressed aac files with earbuds…they are clueless about what real music is.
@@dickcnormis1444 You’re not wrong. Now, people will spend ridiculous amount of money on a big screen TV and a stupid sound bar, but for music? They might spring for a $100 Bluetooth speaker.

As many of us will tell you, this entire album is perfection! If I could listen to just one artist for the rest of my life it would be Steely Dan. Endlessly fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable. ❤
There is such a diverse Steely Dan catalog of music, you'd need several hours or maybe days of reaction and commentary on an unbelievable awesome band!!
I thought that was Rush. Steely Dan isn't really in the running as a "band" as most of their music wasn't made by any fixed bunch of musicians. From 1974 onwards, it was an ever changing cast of studio musicians.
There are some song reactions that get a thumbs up from me before I ever watch the video. Steely Dan is one of those! Seriously, how could you NOT like this song? (or their music!?)
I never play Steely Dan in the background while I do something else. I never want to risk getting bored of it by doing that. Dedicated listening only, sitting on a chair in front of the stereo, preferably through good headphones.
You can never go wrong with Steely Dan. They are just in a class by themselves. It’s always fantastic music and exquisite production. Great choice and great reaction 🌺✌️
"Peg" was the #1 party song in 1983. If you like Aja you should listen to Can't Buy a Thrill album next. Heck it's all great music. Yes I can dance to it,
Aja is in the conversation for island album material, if you could only take a few with you forever. Horn arrangements and backing vocals are top shelf. Should react to the entire album. Not a bad song on it.
It would have to be a Steely Dan box set if I was stranded on an island. But their music demands high end hifi for all the intricacies so hopefully that island has the best equipment. Then, just leave me alone with my pina colada.
I have so many favorite Steely Dan songs, like this! 😅 Thanks for a great reaction to this smooth beauty. Babylon Sisters, Aja, Kid Charlemagne, Home at Last, Well, I could go on and on!
Before all the synths and keyboards, there was first the Hammond B3 organ and later on, the Fender Rhodes electric piano. Ray Charles was first on the Rhoads, but early Steely Dan used it well.
They wrote no bad songs. No kidding you can listen to like 5 of their albums with no skips. You should check out the whole Aja album. Beautifully produced especially for a 70s album.
THIS WAS ONE OF THOSE 70'S ( 7 ) TRACK ALBUMS BIZ 😊 4 OF THE 7 TRACKS WERE RADIO HITS : THIS, JOSIE, DEACON BLUES, PEG 😊 SAME 77 YEAR AS FLEETWOOD MAC ( RUMOURS )
My favourite band, and I’m a Brit! This album is in my top 3 all time, the musicianship is magnificent. I can’t think of an average SD track,it’s all top shelf with the very best session musicians used. Superb.
Love the killer bass line and drums, then sneaking in layers of complexity with saxophone and silky smooth production. Jazz/Funk and dope lyrics "Like A Gangster On The Run, You Will Stagger Homeword To Your Precious One." Steely Dan has its own category when it comes to music. Thanks, Biz; loved it and your spot-on commentary.
Becker and Fagen took a lot of time perfecting the entire album AJA. Bernard Purdie, with his Purdie shuffle, Victor Feldman on vibraphone, etc... I just saw a video UA-cam conference reunion of these studio session players all talking about this album and the work that went into it.
When I was in university, and when they still had stereo stores, this album was used for the stereo speaker sales and tests. At that time, this was probably your favourite band's favourite band! Love the background singers in this particular track. I think headphones are required for this album in order to hear the full musicality.
You can react to anything from Steely Dan and I'll tune in. One of my top ten favorite bands. The coolest sounding band in the universe. This album is killer. A classic. But it's hard to pick a favorite Steely Dan album or song. They're all so good. Check out their song Only a Fool Would Say That. It's a goodie.
He is her confidant, she is with someone else, and cheating on him, so she tells her "confidant" all about it, but, he's tired of hearing about her affairs so he tells her to finish her drink and get out of here. So Outrageous
We drank a lot and smoked a lot back in the day. Saw them at Bonner Springs, KS in an outdoor venue. It was awesome. Love this album and more! I carried a little book with numbers too.
Not many people get syncopation at this languid tempo... it's all subdivisions... of the groooove!. Better tell a story of hopeless lust and misguided love that befell most of us til we manned and womenned up and take us on the journey to our sadly missed but regrettable passions
45 years on...... This track.... This album...... Is still timeless. 💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎
Steely Dan sounding awesome

One of my favorites!!! BABYLON SISTERS is another tune of Steely Dan!❤

@@dickcnormis1444 There's a world of difference between buying a stereo to listen to "Aja" or "Kind of Blue" and buying one to listen to songs by SZA.
Major hats off to Wayne Shorter on the sax solo.
The whole Aja album is fire. Every track is as good as this. A whole album listen is fully warranted, and will not disappoint!
I was about to write the same. IMO, it is their best album, followed by Gaucho which also has great songs
@@xaviviejo19 for me, “The Royal Scam” would be next.

Steely Dan nothing but amazing, I love the sax . One of my favorites!
Anything Steely Dan! Of course do more!
This song doesn't get old. So smooth, so cool, and I can almost picture her with her book of numbers and remedies.
This album is considered by many to be the best including myself
i love this album too. but i love gaucho just as much.
One of the best albums ever, makes for superb late night chill vibes
It doesn't get any smoother than this! Steely Dan is the very best medicine. I needed this tonight!
Yea man , Steely Dan should come in a bottle ! :)
Agree and same 💜
It's smooth but not mellow. It's like an excellent old single malt Scotch: smooth and yet sharp at the same time
Yes Peter Gunz & Lord Tariq sampled Black Cow for their 1997 hit Deja Vu.
Ahhh Steely Dan and headphones ❤️💃🏻 *long happy sigh* 😊
This album is so effing smooth. Definitely in my top 10.

Sorry, Tom Scott on Black Cow with Joe Sample on keys.

Cleaning the house music. Aja is the JAM !

Steely Dan has soooo many great songs. Keep going...will not disappoint!
Steely Dan is pure gold, as is most 70s music overall!
They never disappoint I'm 63 and I still love these songs!!
Before all the synths and keyboards, there was first the Hammond B3 organ and later on, the Fender Rhodes electric piano. Ray Charles was first on the Rhoads, but early Steely Dan used it well.

You should definitely go for Home at Last, with Bernard "Pretty" Purdie on the drums... it's just perfection!
