Hello. I’m finding your videos very, very informative and helpful! My husband and I just completed the installation of our pool. It just so happened to be identical to yours. We’re using the sand filter that came with the pool. I’m having some apprehension about it because with out last pool I had upgraded the pump to the 16” sand pump. I quit this year and couldn’t be fixed. Our previous pool was old so we decided to get another one. I decided to give the smaller pump a try. I also got the saltwater system. We used our well water to fill it along with county water. I got the saltwater system going with the help of your videos. Thank you again! So the system has been going for 2 days, I had added the 175lbs of salt. Did everything as you described along with consulting the manual. My husband called me at work yesterday and said the water had a green tint to it. That was day 2. I really don’t think it’s algae. I know what algae looks like bc I’ve fought with it for years with the other pool. It a darker shade of green. I husband googled it and read that it could be the iron in the water. Have you ever heard of this happening before? I did a regular test strip today and the free chlorine is barely reading, pH is between 6.2 and 6.8, alkalinity is 120 and the hardness is 0. This is after the pump and chlorinator had been running all night on boost. Other than throwing some shock in it idk what else to do. I haven’t had much luck in the past with the different chemicals other using the shock and tablets. Can you offer and advise?
Yes, I am sure it's the IRON content, not to mention well water has rust in it and so there the rust particles are infiltrating all of your new equipment and pool. It sounds scary. The only thing I can try to suggest is to watch our green pool video. It's not an instant fix it takes about 24hrs or so to get it back together. You have to get that pool balanced before you can ever add the salt so if you did that beforehand then I would blame it on the well water. One more thing inside the saltwater system booklet there was an included insert called 'GUIDE TO RESTORING GREENISH POOL WATER TO CLEAN, CLEARWATER USING THE INTEX SALTWATER SYSTEM" This may also help you. Using these instructions they suggest to use the Intex Maintenance Kit to remove the metal sediment from the bottom of the pool. You can buy it on sale right now on Amazon. Been balancing water on our intex 16x32 above ground for the past 2 weeks since re-filled after it came out of winter like a swamp, we had to drain to clean up then re-fill, then I have been getting the water conditioned and adjusted; got fresh Taylor kits, we got a dolphin robot and a new salt water chlorinator; today the pool was reading 3150 ppm salinity, before hooking the new intex chlorinator, I am using 12-14 oz of cholr brite to keep chlorine up every times it goes down, ours is a 15000 gallons. I used the intex chlorinator last season, an older model I had since 5 years ago and had issues maintaining salt levels right, here in Nevada we lose half inch of water to evaporation per day; pool maintenance is a lot of work to be on top of it. This season which we are trying to be ready rather sooner before June, we hope to enjoy the pool longer. 3 weeks working on it it is crazy; pump running 24/7 for all the circulation and filtration needed; I can't wait to adjust that schedule to 10-12 hour day on heavy usage and less while not being used with the new chlorinator help!
We're so sorry you have to work so hard just to have fun. Your story is so painful for us to hear because our pool maintenance requires nothing like this. We hop things get better for you soon. We opened ours today and it was 95% ready to go.
@@MoverandShaker I just programmed the timer for the pump to run every day now 6 hours since 8 am and 4 hours from 8 pm, hooking up the chlorinator this afternoon, it should be ready now
Thank you so much for taking the time to do these videos and being so thorough. I just hooked up my saltwater system. I have a few questions. Maybe you can help me out. Is it necessary to run SWS in boost mode the entire time 8x? or just until salt levels are where they need to be? I was considering purchasing a bigger sandfilter, but decided to give the filter balls a try first. I am amazed at the pressure/flow of water coming from my jets now that I changed. Do you have experience or knowledge of using filter balls?
The salt water system only needs to run in the boost mode in the very beginning and also after a heavy rainfall or when your opening your pool for the 1st time after Winter look for a thorough explanation that we just did a couple days ago up above yours you might find some details in our response that are helpful and no we've never heard of filter ball's but I will definitely research that
Great job. I have added a skimmer basket to my 18ft it really helped keeping it clean. Now I just upgraded to a 24 ft x52 the first thing I did was put in a skimmer. Didn’t use the intex brand used a Hayward and put it thru the liner.
We are so scared to do it but always wanted to. Wish you had made a video. Lol
@@MoverandShaker it’s really simple process. It has a thick gasket it never leaked. You do have to get some adapters to go from pvc to intex hoses.
There’s is a few videos on UA-cam on how to do it. Just look for installing a Hayward skimmer on intex pool

I understand. Just do what you can by getting on a small ladder when you are not in the pool for awhile and try to spot treat any of those corroded areas with some sort of rust protectant / spray either by putting it on with a paint brush out of a container using some sort of blocking mechanism to keep the overspray out of your water and liner. We feel like if we can get 5 seasons out of it being a salt water pool than that is all we expect. LOL

Sorry for the delay. Your water has to be completely balanced before you ever add salt and that would include cyanaric acid. Once it's balanced add on the salt stir it in good, run pump 24hrs check salt levels before starting your boost cycle. Once the boost is done you are sailing maintenance free! Unless you constant rains or don't keep your pool clean.
Where did you get the connectors to the pool to modify the size of the tubes? Do you have a link that you can share?
Hello! Thank you for your videos! We do have a question, we are running our boost cycle for the first time, are we suppose to run it for whatever the manual says (4) and have it run for 32 hours or do we do it for 1 hr to only go for 8?
Yes...it runs that long 8x whatever you manual says. But only start your software system if you're positive that your water is balanced because you will be wasting Your time

Yes, that is correct. It takes about 5-8 minutes. Just being proactive to make sure that when we walk away everything is rinsed of salt water.
I LOVE the Salt Water System. It was easy to balance water and it stayed balanced. I used the Chlorine system that came with the INTEX Summer Waves Pool. The pool is inexpensive and easy to set-up. After a couple of months I was ready to kill it. I couldn't keep it clear or keep the water balanced. Shocking it never cleared up all the algae that grew under the ring. I drained it 3x in as many months. I was so frustrated and angry, I got a steak knife and stabbed the ring to death. Then, I got a box cutter and cut it up into pieces.
Are you serious? That is a terrible story. Well Since we had our Salt Water System, we never had to worry except one time after a few days of heavy rain, and our pool started turning green but in terms of being balanced. Knock on wood but three seasons in a row we are saving so much and money and we have peace of mind having a salt water pool. All we want really is to get 5 good years out of this pool, the pump and saltwater system. We aren't asking or expecting much.

This one is a sticky question. Sometimes we are aware of the smell and other times were not we don't really notice. The smell doesn't bother us so I don't think we are going to notice it. Sorry we couldn't be more helpful.

Great review thank you. Approximately how much would it cost for the system and pool? And approximately what is it costing you for the Salted additional supplies per month an additional electricity. I realize your cost might be dated a bit but I would really appreciate a complete analysis of that. I live in Florida and looking for a inexpensive way to have a pool for my kids.
I am unable to offer a complete and realistic analysis of costs for you. It would take hours over a course of several days and everyone's pool packages come with different configurations or equipment e.g. Pumps, Ladders, or Pump, Saltwater combos, and they vary depending on size and capacity of water, etc... Electricity is dirt cheap, Salt is dirt cheap and I know our first year owning the Saltwater system paid for itself because we are no longer spending hours trying to get our pool balanced and we are not purchasing chemicals to get it perfect. It stays perfect for us and we love the luxury of that peace of mind. If you want to go cheap then find a pool package that has the pump included and/or saltwater system included. It's not cheap however, I can tell you for us the most important things you will need to invest money on is the pool, the pool cover for winter, the pump, the saltwater system, (salt is cheap) and a small debris net, a skimmer, and a vacuum. I have links in most of my pool videos for products that we purchased for our pool so you can take a look. Prices went WAYYYYYY UP during CoVID and I meant through the roof and this is on everything related to the pool so the costs now are no where near what we paid the summer before CoVID. The best way to get the best prices for pools and equipment is to wait until the end of the summer when everything goes on clearance. If I had to guess what a ballpark figure would be for all the basics I would say under 1500k which of course doesn't include water or electricity.
We have the extra same system and wanted to ask you - we put enough salt in the pool and ran the salt chlorinator for quite a few hours 20 hours or more I believe, but the Intel saltwater chlorinator doesn't seem to be making any cholorine at all, it is very low? Any suggestions? we have a 16x48 pool -over 5,000 gallons and we added 120lbs. of Clorox pool salt. the intex model is the 7,000 eco5110....just confused as to what we are doing wrong?
On the operating time table for ECO5110 depending on your temp and pool style, if you have an Ultra Frame pool, then for your size pool... Your normal operating time is either 8 or 9 hrs so when you boost it's automatically 8x one of those amounts. So you have to run it much longer than you did. That is my best guess as why the Chlorine is low. You ran it for less than half the required time. Also did you balance your pool ahead of time before adding salt. That is another thought of mine. Earlier today another couple was asking a similar question so here is the steps I would make sure you followed.
Put your pump on FP (free pump). Let pump run for 24 hrs to circulate salt. The next stage will be to run pump in FP, and Turn on Chlorinator and set timer for the desired time based on your manual instructions for normal operating time. Then Hit boost. The System will run 8x the amount you set it for normal operating time. Once this cycle is over. Use SALT WATER CHLORINE GENERATOR TEST STRIPS 40 CT amzn.to/371fPQk and make sure your PPM is within range based on your manual's specifications. We run our pump 8hrs and Chlorinator for 6hrs everyday but everyone's times are different based on pool size and equipment so make sure you follow your manual. Also, you have to be diligent in vacuuming your pool at least every couple of days, otherwise neglect will create problems. when you are in your pool, you do some cleaning for a few minutes on the surfaces and the liner while you stay cool. Good Luck.
Again, thank you for all you do to help with this process. So I just setup mine for the first time, I have no knowledge about pool, thanks to all your videos that helped me big time. My question is do I run the sand pump(2100g/h) for 24 hours before I shock the water?
Add required salt, brush it all in with a pool brush extension. put pump on FP, Then find out on the chart for your pool size how long the boost would typically run set the timer for that time frame then hit boost. It will probably run a lonnnnnng time but after that you will just run everything together once a day. (not boost just the on button) We usually run our 3000 gph pump 8hrs and saltwater system 6hrs a day. Only after the pool gets rained in a lot or is really dirty would you boost and we rarely have ever had to., in fact we have added nothing to the pool since we opened it !!!!!!

A question. In the manual it also tells us about adding Cyanuric Acid! Did you add this? Why is it?
We added it one single time last summer. It is part of the method of reducing chlorine loss from the effects of the sun. If your cyanuric acid levels do ever end up low, it is best to add stabilizer. This will both increase your total alkalinity and increase your cyanuric acid. If your pH levels are low, it is best to add soda ash. ... Baking soda is the best way to raise total alkalinity with minimal effect to pH and cyanuric acid. We have a salt water pool and haven't added anything to our pool this season period!!! The chlorinator running daily prevents chlorine loss.
Can you tell me what you are using to power your filter and salt water system? I have an outlet on the wall of the house but not near the pool. I was thinking of using 2 heavy duty outside extension cords.
So we paid an electrician a $150 to drill through the brick wall and connect are outside GFCI FCI outlet directly to an outlet indoors so you can work that outlet indoors or outdoors and it's just 5 to 6' from our pump. Also we use a pigtail extension typextension type chord so that we can run 3 items into the 2 prong outlet

The number one thing you have to do before you add salt and boost is get your pool water balanced. I don't think the saltwater system manual tells you this so we must have learned this watching other saltwater system videos. After you do this, you will be sailing free of any maintenance chemicals, with the exception if it down poured for a long period of time and something is off but honestly in two seasons, we only had to do that twice. We were so happy. So yes, work to try to get that water balanced and then from then on you should be good to go. Whatever is low add it and keep them on hand for future use. You may find some chemicals cheaper buying preowned (like opened bottles) or from eBay sellers, and your local FB sellers vs. Amazon or retail stores.
I just installed mine, but I’m getting an error code 91 for add salt after 2 mins of initial run time, then it goes into sleep mode. Any ideas?
Did you run a pool water Test first to make sure the water was completely balanced before you added the salt? The first thing that comes to mind is to test your salinity. Make sure you have enough salt in there per your chart for your pool. Worst case scenario, you have a local pool store nearby, they can probably help Quickly for free. Just put your pool water in a clean container with a lid. And they'll tell you right away what it's missing. Good luck

no not at all. We haven't added a single thing to our pool in over a month and everything is still testing in the o.k. ranges. I am sorry you're having trouble. I hope your not using an app to test they aren't reliable. Why don't you go to your local pool store with a water sample and tell them your problem. I am sure they can help you resolve this so you don't have to continue to struggle with this problem.
What is the alkalinity level in your pool? Swings in pH is caused by alkalinity not being at the proper level.
Do you need to run the filter pump 24/7 when using saltwater system?

Yes, we only run the recommended time for our pool Size looking at the chart in the manual. You can set it up on a timer to come on, but we prefer manually.
I turned on the intex sand filter and it put some sand in the pool. Any idea why? Or how to fix/prevent and remove the sand?
Vacuums will get the sand up. It happens to all of us Intex pool owners. It is little sand it's not that bothersome to us. We always wondered if the sand was just an inch too high inside the pump. We don't really know why.
Can’t get my system to create chlorine after set up . I tested at night as well and still no chlorine . Do I need stabilizer fresh out the box ?
If your pool was balanced properly prior to adding the salt and you have added the correct amount of salt and ran your pump for twenty four hours and your chlorinator it's still not making chlorine, then there could be a potential problem with your chlorinator. Were you able to figure this out?

Hi, I just set up my pool but I have the new sand pump and water system combo. I don't understand the instructions regarding the chlorinator. How long to I run the chlorinator for initial set up. Do I run the boost? I have 3 options, 36, 48, or 60 hrs. It's a 12x24 Rectangular pool.
O.k. Boost is for intial set up or when your pool gets REALLY Dirty or it rains or your opening it up again for the new season. Boost is always 8X the length of time that your salt water system would normally run. you have to get familiar with the charts/tables not only for your size pool, but also they have three columns for temperature as well. So you would take your normal operating time (depending on temperature) which is either 4hrs or 5hrs follow the steps of the operation instuctions on page 17. You are setting up the NORMAL operating time which is 4 or 5 hours you are not setting anything else up. Get very familiar with steps 1-5 then proceed to #6 When you hit the BOOST button it will run 8 times the amount of time you programmed it. This generates enough Chlorine for your size pool based on the chart for your saltwater system run time and temperature. So more than likely it will run for 32 hrs or 40 depending on your temperature. The pump will run on FP "free pump" with the saltwater system. After that length of time you are DONE!!!! then daily you can use the timer or turn your saltwater system on manually for 4 or 5 hours a day. Remember this though. Always make sure your pump starts five minutes before the saltwater system and always wait 15 minutes after saltwater system is off to turn of the pump or you can leave the pump on if you want. Daily operation is simple. Boost is confusing!

I have the exact set up (16x48 xtr
pool) We finally on the correct salt levels (about 3000 ppm) but now our PH is high over 8.4..so I added 12 oz of muriatic acid (5000 gallon pool ) and after 4 hours the ph was still high…so we added an additional 8oz and now just waiting to retest. its driving me nuts I’ve been at it for 4 days now. I also did not add cyanuaric acid …is this mandatory? It’s been about 90 degrees here in California. Pls help 🤞🏽
We are having tough times as well but with yellow fungus. Yes, the ph levels should be 7.2 and 7.8. I think you are on the right path, filling a five gallon bucket with the correct dosage, and yes, sometimes you have to repeat the process. I think your on the right track. I know it's frustrating, but you are almost there

I bought the same saltwater system but with the ozone system , right when i turned on it tell me code 91 low salt , my pool its a 22x52 ive used 8 bags of 40 lbs salt already and still its saying low salt... i need help
I can't really speak for your own saltwater system since it's different but I've had that happen a few times on start up and I just turned it back off and turned it on and it cleared it. You do know your boost needs to run 8 times the normal time your salt water system would run depending on the temperature column in the manual. This way the salt system is running For the correct length of time for your pool to get it in check.

Does your sand filter start to overflow with water when the filter is done running after its 5 hour cycle. I’ve noticed my sand filter will start to back up when the system goes off. I have to always time it and come out to close/lock both of the valves. Is that normal? Or are the screws on the sand filter top not tight enough? It’s been a struggle because Intex customer service can’t help me and none of the videos online really show what happens when the system turns off.
Absolutely not. Something is wrong. Your pump is under warranty and will be replaced for free. We have returned 2 items to Intex for full replacement without any issue. We hope you get it resolved.
Great video! I just switched to a bigger sand filter today went from 40lb to 125lb intex with the salt chlorinator. I filled the pool and added what the pool place said to add and run for a day. Now my question is if the levels are good tomorrow then do i just add the salt recommended and run the pump or do i do the boost mode immediately after adding salt? Its a 16x48 for reference size.
After you add the salt, you have to run the pump for 24 hrs before you ever run boost. When we first did this video I think we quoted the incorrect time for our size pool For the boost cycle. It actually ended up being 32 hours for the boost. For the initial setup, for our 18 x 52. Once you get past all that you are home free. And you can swim during the boost.

How long did you have to run your generator initial start up and was your chlorine level at 0 or did you put chlorine in and then start
Everyone's run time is different you have to look in the manual at the guide. ours was thirty two hours For the initial boost cycle. Before you can ever turn on your coordinator your water has to be balanced. That requires you to have everything. Come out to a good reading. Using a test kit or by bringing your water sample to the pool store. So yes, the chlorine was already in the pool from last year. I didn’t run the 24hr cycle when I converted to salt. Ran about 3 hours and had no issues with level. Also didn’t run a boost cycle because I was coming from a chlorinated established pool. I’m trying to figure out when I need to run a boost. Is it like shocking?
Yes it is like shocking the pool however our initial boost was 32 hrs long. We haven't ran it since the initial set up because we keep our pool very clean with very little traffic.
Is it necessary to add cyanuric acid to keep the chlorine level more stable during the day against UV rays?
Our levels have never been low enough to have to add it except for one day last season. That is our Green Pool Scare Video. Are pool sits in the hot Sun all day long
From what I’ve read this type of chlorine lasts much longer than they type that you buy. It’s naturally more stable.
Can you use the system on all Intex pools? Wondering what the smallest system might be? I’m looking for about a 10 foot pool maybe in diameter. I’ve recently also noticed that they’re selling these electric pads that can sit under the pools that can be plugged in to also keep the water temperature water warmer easier. This might be useful into the colder season. I’m wondering how it may fare covered with water in it over the winter season? I also have been looking at pool liners and I’m wondering if those liners not only could be used for under the pool to protect the bottom but for inside the pool to protect it from any scratches in the bottom?
Also I’m wondering what kind of outlet is required to plug in the system? Can you use a typical outlet that you may have on the exterior of the house or interior and run a cord for instance? I don’t like the idea of running a cord but I would have to bury it under a bit to protect the cord and anybody else however just wondering of your experiences?
You can use the salt water system on All Intex pools except the "Easy Set" style I believe. They have a lot of new models of salt water systems out there now. I see they have made a pump and saltwater combo too. Just visit their website intexcorp.com/ for the latest models. I never heard of an electric pad that can sit under the pool. We typically swim when the water reaches 86+ and we get about 90 days of swimming in. That is enough for us. We don't feel a need for the heater at all. It's sometimes hard to get in when it's cool but after the initial shock and you start moving around. It gets better. It takes about 5 minutes. There is a Stock liner that comes with the pools. It goes underneath the pool.
If you take a look at our playlist you will see it in our very first pool video. No need to worry about scratches at the bottom. These are Vinyl pools. We use a regular outdoor GFCI outlet that is all that is required. We did not originally have this outlet we paid an electrician $150 to install a GFCI outlet by drilling into our brick wall and connecting it directly to the inside of our home and so it works inside and outside and outside it has a weather box protecting it from the wind and rain.
We have never tripped over our cords. We thought about burying it but never got around to it and now I am glad. it's only running about 12 feet across. We both both cords plugged into a pigtail extension wire adapter and that we can have 3 or 4 items plugged in. We have stepping stones and have never in four years tripped over it as of yet. Do you have a video with initial instructions on how to use each of the buttons? Can’t get the self clean, boost or chlorinator ones to come on. Just the main filter pump which I run daily but not having green and algae plus found tadpoles today 🤦🏻♀️ Grandson is coming to visit next week and need a good clean operating pool but haven’t found anyone to give me initial instructions so I’m pretty frustrated. You don't even use the saltwater system at all until your pool is vacuumed, backwashed and the water is properly balanced which can take several days because you can't add everything at once. So you are by far facing a serious challenge here. You need to hire a professional if you want results quickly if you don't have the tools or resources. I say it shoukd have been started 2 weeks ago. Even we had to fight algae for a week and we took our water sample to Leslie's pool chain and had the free analysis so they gave us the fix recipe but the instructions were spread put over a week because of all the items we had to add one at a time over a week. Only when the water is balanced and clean can you even begin to add salt. Then run the pump for 24hrs then boost. It is not going to be done in a week. We do have an initial saltwater system video in our pool video Playlist but the saltwater system is not going to get tid of those issues.
Is it possible to stop and reset the boost setting? I accidentally set it for 32 hours.
We can't answer that question without ours actually being set up in front of us. Our pool is not open for another two weeks. We didn't even know you could set it for 32 hours which such a high number. If you can try to reset it if it won't reset by turning it off and then on again. Try unplugging it because I do see a place in the manual that talks about if you receive a power outage unplug it to reset it. Good Luck!
I am setting up a new intex pool. Upgraded from a small intex to the rectangular ultra. Decide to go with saltwater to minimize the maintenance required. I notice your video has been posted for a year. I am wondering how your pool is holding up to deterioration due to the salt?
It is actually the 3rd year. We made that video in 2020 see the date under the title when you play it. We meticulously rinse our pool off every time we get out of it or even doing any vacuuming, netting etc... We always knew it's a big risk so we are very proactive, so I am sure that helps. This year, Season 3 We have noticed when you are in the pool looking at the rails through their peek holes we see a spot (the size of a ladybug) on only 3 of all the rails on the right side of the connector. (where we do all the maintenance from mainly netting) the areas are small it looks like perhaps it is from the same little drip area. We have already treated it and protecting it as best as possible. We are not threatened by it still. We still are confident we can get 3-5 more years out of this saltwater pool.

Yes. You have to have your entire pool balanced and all levels reading in the o.k. range before you ever boost your salt system and CYA is a part of that. After you do that and you boost you're pretty much set!!!
Question have my pool up about to add salt it says 340 lbs that’s 9 bags. So after I add salt what do I turn on to start the process please I’m confused
Put your pump on FP for 24 hrs after you brush then salt in thoroughly you can't just toss it in there. Then consult your salt water system to find out how long your boost cycle needs to be on your chlorinator. Ours ran 32 hrs it's in the manual for your size pool.
Thanks I have it on fp started at 3 pm. So I did Put 9 bags of 40 lbs salt per manual. After it runs for 24 hours I’m confused about the next part. I did call Intex. He said set the filter pump on how many ever hours and then it will start running at the time. so I’m thinking 9 o’clock at night start with the filter because it will be dark outside and no one will be in the pool then when do I set the chlorinator pump because he said it automatically comes on right after the filter pump , but when I set the time for that is it gonna come on at the time I set it so do I have to wait until the filter pump is finished, then go outside and set the chlorinator pump and it’ll come on every day for how many ever hours at the time I set it or does it automatically come on for the hours you set it right after the filter pump goes off it’s not very clear and I’m so confused but I do appreciate you getting back to me. o.k. we will look into that. We usually do the manual cleaning as mentioned in the manual step by step. We have never done the self cleaning type of clean but there must be a reason why we did not do that. We will try to get something out for you.
Did you get a low flow code 90 on the salt water system? if so, how do you resolve?
No our machine did not give us code 90 at all... Only a false code of 93 and we just turned it off and back on and that resolved it. We have bot had any issues. Do you make sure your pump is on at least 5 minutes before the salt system is on?

I’ve watched your videos on your pool set up, filter set up and salt chlorinator set up several times each. I’m in the process of setting my 20x48 Intex Pool up. I just have a question on your salt. I noticed you mentioned you used the Aqua Quartz Sand for your sand filter, but what type of salt did you use? I’ve been reading reviews and people say that their liner turned green once they added the salt and they made sure they brushed it off the bottom to help dissolve it. Any help would be great!
We use Clorox pool salt And have not had to add any salt whatsoever this season as of yet and it never turned anything on our Pool green.

Hey, need some help. On the SWG, if I select 1hr and hit boost option (which equates to 8hrs) is that essentially the same as if I select 8hrs on the timer? It's not the same. Boost is a higher concentration
I’ve reviewed the SWG 5110 manual. I have a 18x9 rectangular pool. It did say boost is 8x whatever hrs you choose however Manuel doesn’t mention that the Boost option will generate chlorine at a higher capacity vs just just using the timer option only. Page 18, step 6 say “saltwater system has started ECO and more sodium hypochlorite sanitizer production”. I assume this just produce more because of the longer run time. Do you have any Intex documentation or on web that states Boost produce higher amount of chlorine vs just timer? Thanks so much for your help.

That valve that you see came with waterfall and it gives you the ability to turn off the fountain when you want to and just have the inlet working inside the pool one or the other. Mine worked for a year. Kept saying low salt. I cleaned the electolytic converters and still os the same. I purchased another brand and it has worked flawless. I kept the original and may purchase new plates as a back up for the Intex.

@MoverandShaker Game. It's a newer brand. It looks almost identical, just blue. There are some specific things you have to set up on first startup, but you can easily adjust if needed. Pool size, timer, it can read the salt level for you. It reads higher on unit compared to my test strips and wand. But it works great so far. I will update if it goes bad, but the build is seems higher quality.
Do you have sand under your pool? I have one in the box i am going to setup in May. It's going on concrete, and I plan to leave it there. Should I do 3" of sand?
I used to have my pool on concrete. I bought some cheap outdoor carpet from Home Depot to put under it...worked out pretty good.
Your question unfortunately ended up lost. I am sorry. What did you end up doing I am curious. We did put sand under ours because we had researched other videos and everyone said it was the best underlayment for a cushy smooth surface. You can see our pool way way back from start to set up in this video here. It looks nothing like this now. We have a major pool and landscaping updates but one of us is very ill right now so we probably won't make any new videos until mid to late June.
I have a 16inch intex pump, 15000 intex saltwater system. It rained heavy for two days in Georgia. Now my pool looks cloudy. Should I shock it or just run the boost on the saltwater system? Thank you..

We've had days where it rained heavy and we tested the water and all the levels and they were still in range so that is good. This kind of cloudy problem can typically start after it rains for few days and you have some time go by before you've vacuumed.

I sure hope you will see this comment on your video from 2 years ago. We bought this pump, set it up, ran the sand filter only and husband added salt. Unfortunately, 12 hours later, some of the ground floor of the pool is green where the salt did not dissolve - it is on top of tiny pecan shell bits (thanks squirrels). I am in the process of figuring out what the heck to do now. We will vacuum but now what? Is it a chemical reaction or algae or iron? And do I boost now or wait? I could use some insight! I am a pro at the sand pump and had a beautiful pool - brand new at the salt water system.
You can have a beautiful sparkling pool and yet the pool water not be balanced. We do have a green pool video. However, in an urgent case like yours. I would definitely want to vacuum up those shells with a battery charged vac before running the pump but I would take a water sample down to the nearest pool. Store ASAP and let them tell you what you need to get. That pool back up the bar. They will even tell you how long you'll need to run the pool with each item that you need to get that water Back to where it needs to be.

I need help… I have a 24x12x51 and I was told that the system that came with it can be used for saltwater. I called intex and that was just a useless hour waiting for them to hang up on me. My question is can I use that system or do I need to purchase a separate saltwater system?
Yes your Intex pool can be used as a saltwater pool. We switched to saltwater on our second season. Switch meaning from pouring chemicals in our pool to purchasing a saltwater generator by Intex and it has it's own plug and own hose that goes into the Intex pool. The pump runs and the saltwater generator runs along with the pump for a desigated operating time. Saltwater systems by Intex are in the highest demand ever and the prices aren't cheap at all. This is not a good time to purchase one however I can tell you that I have seen cheap prices out there but you have to look for them using internet search methods to find the best deal. CYA is an important part of your balancing ingredients. You see it on a pool test strip. Once your pool is completely balanced then you add your salt, run the pump on FP for 24hrs and then boost for whatever time frame your pool size requires. If your CYA is low then there is no point in starting up until it's corrected. We decided in the last year to just take our water straight to the pool store and have them tell us what and how much we need. Once you have everything running with the saltwater system for the most part it's maintenance free with the exception of keeping your pool clean.

Thank you! Yes, it is all intimidating at first but it's going to get easier I promise. 6hrs for the pump and 5hrs for the saltwater system unless we are cleaning the pool then we may run it the pump by itself longer. In the beginning of each season you make sure your water is balanced then you add salt if needed then boost and then you should be good to go with an occasional backwash. If you have excessive rains it can throw things off but not too bad.

Did you run your pump with the salt in your pool for 24 hours before you ever started your boost on your saltwater system if not you're supposed to and that might be why you're not getting a chlorine rating because you have to have that salt circulating with the pump only for 24 hours

when do i use the chlorinator vs boost?
We only used the boost cycle when it was intially set up. We never had to use it after that. We run our pump 6hours a day and the chlorinator 5 hrs and we have an 18' x 52" I do know other Intex pool owners that have a lot heavier traffic than our pool that use it all the time when they think it is needed.
The Boost feature on salt systems boost the salt systems to run at 100% chlorine output to shock the pool, raising the chlorine level. This is typically only needed when you have a high bather load, heavy rains, the water’s cloudy, a little bit of algae use the Boost feature.
The Boost Cycle/ Feature runs for 24 hours; or for however long the pump is turned on for the following 24-hour period. If we had to do that we would just run the pump on FP for free pump. So that it would not turn off in a set amount of hours. The salt chlorinator will only be generating chlorine when it has enough water flow to be operational.

You can set up the saltwater system anytime you want to but before you do you have to have that pool balanced and in order to do that you would need chemicals regardless of how you're starting out. We are getting ready to publish a video tomorrow that is in regards to maintaining your saltwater system and also tips and I'm not sure if you seen our 30-day review video but we have definitely found it to be worth it and if we could go back in time it would have saved us a lot of aggravation stress, money, and time

Absolutely not. The saltwater system makes it's own chlorine.
I'm having low pressure problem do you know how to fix it?
If it was the pump that was having the issue you would just make sure there is nothing clogging up the lines. It's not uncommon to find trash in the skimmer strainer basket attached to the pool wall inside the water and also the pump basket. If you were having some pressure issues with the salt water system, I could only suggest to do the regular maintenance. Low pressure could also be a crack in the hose line. You don't want that! I suggest you go on intex.com and find the saltwater system manual and download it as a pdf. There are seversl charts in there that tell you everything you need to know for your pool. We always make sure our pump runs 5 min. Before ever starting the salt system everyday. Our pool 18 x 52 is 4 hrs salt and 6 hrs pump. Take a look at the manual in depth. The more you read it, it becomes easy and not do confusing and nervewracking.

The saltwater system manual tells you exactly how long to run both depending on your temperature. Please refer to the chart titled INTEX POOLS OPERATING TIME TABLE in our book it is page 15. At the very bottom your pool is mentioned and depending on the temperature column the time for the saltwater system will change. I see 6, 7 and 8 and you will have to look under the temperature column. Your pump will always stay on 12 for your pool.

I’m just making sure I’m doing everything correct. I’ve watched almost all your videos and read the manual. I have the same intex ultra pool as you(18’x52”), I also believe I have the same 16” pump. I’m opening the pool for the first time. I added the recommended 175lbs of salt for the initial start up and currently running the pump on “FP”. So..after the 24 hours is up, what is the next step? I have keep running the pump on FP and run the chlorinator on boost cycle for an additional 16 hours? I also read a lot of these comments, you’ve gave different daily run times for your pump and chlorinator. Since we have the same set up could you please verify the hours you run the pump and chlorinator daily?
*For Total Boost time*, On page 15 of our Saltwater system manual you look and find the NORMAL Operation time of your saltwater system under your current temperature column then take that number and multiply it by 8 for the correct boost time. Now for normal running operations, The saltwater system manual tells you exactly how long to run both the pump and the saltwater system depending on your temperature. Please refer to the chart titled INTEX POOLS OPERATING TIME TABLE in our book it is on page 15. At the very bottom, your pool is mentioned, and depending on the temperature column the time for the saltwater system will change.
My manual provides the “operating time table(with cyanuric acid)” with the current temp to run the system for 5 hours. There are not two separate columns for pump and chlorinator. The manual states to add 1.7 pounds of cyanuric acid after a boost cycle is completed. Is this something you did?
There are no clear directions in this entire manual “model ECO20110-2” when to boost the pool. They only give clear direction on adding salt for the initial start up and then run the pump (without chlorinator) for 24 hours. After that’s complete, then “set the desired operating hours for the chlorinator” (5 hours).
There are only instructions on the basics of operating boost mode. Which has 4 total settings 00, 36, 48, and 60 hours. Are you saying that after the 24 hour cycle is completed, I should boost my pool for 40 hours on top of that? Seems like a really long time to run the pump.

Total Chlorine level has been steady reading 3 for several weeks. Free Chlorine is in between 1 and 3 we have added some water lately and it has rained. Are you having trouble? or just comparing with others?
@@MoverandShaker thank you for answering, I was just curious. Mine has been in the high 8s. I recently put a dirty used vacuum in it and now FC/TC is in the mid 4s. I've read that in the hot months, especially this summer (in Atlanta) FC should be on higher side. I also have high CYA levels due to accidentally putting too much in after a false zero reading, so my pool requires a higher FC level as well.

@mchaywood83 After a big rain. We boost. when we first start the pool up At the beginning of the season we boost. The only other time we would find ourselves possibly boosting is if we felt like, for some reason, we need more chlorine.
Are you experiencing any rust at this point?
Not at all. Most likely because every single time we get out of the pool it's rinsed off thoroughly on the exterior so that all the post in any metal pieces are thoroughly washed down.

The new Intex XTRs are powder coated on both the outside and now the inside. Does this mean I don’t need to constantly rinse my pool and that therefore it’s protected?
