Hayward skimmer makes a huge difference too . I am a 44 year old woman and I cut into my liner and upgraded the skimmer and the outlet for the jet . Talk about a game changer
Awesome! It’ll still be pool season for a bit too! Looking forward to talking a dip if it’s still warm out when we arrive 😎
If you guys make it this way this summer we will have it ready for you!
If I can make a suggestion to anyone about these pools. Always buy an oversized filter system and you will be way happier with the results. Try to get a system that changes the water every two hours instead of every 5. Those are average numbers for the pump set up that comes with these intex/above ground pools. We have had two pools in 10 years and only got a new one because we wanted bigger (now 16X32). In fact our neighbors still use our old one. We are converting to salt water chlorination this year 2022. Thanks for the video guys it helps to have other families show us just how easy it is.
Yes! Thank you for sharing that - we totally agree about buying an oversized pump!
I am converting to salt water as well
@@TwinAassassin how did it go? I need help doing it
Awesome playscape in the background!
Thank you! Follow us on instagram to see how the kids turned that into a water slide too. 😂 instagram is 5_acre_farmlife
Great video! Time for a dip in the cool water!
Yes please!
I got away from sand and went with pool balls they work great
Pool Balls, what are those?
People mistakenly think that a salt system means no chlorine. The difference is you are literally making chlorine from the salt you add. That said, sometimes it is good or necessary to actually add chlorine when the pool gets in trouble. Too much salt over time will cause PH to rise to extreme levels (8.2 or higher) and any chlorine no matter where it comes from won’t even work. Nice pool..enjoy!
Very true!
That’s huge! The one we had for our pool was dinky compared to that one!
I know!!
Cool! Didn't know this was a thing.
It's amazing!
How many bags of salt did ya'all use? ❤ thank you for your video. ❤
New subscriber here,great video 👍
Awesome! Great to have you! 😁
did it rust to pieces or find a way to solve rust as mine fell to pieces
I got the same saltwater system pump and it works perfect always crystal clear water and yes less maintenance !!!!!
Love it! Right now, my regular maintenance is I keep a chlorine tablet in the skimmer basket to add a little extra since shock is so expensive right now. Also use Algecide & Clarifier liquid to clear it up once a week.
@@csorbera23 yeah i also have algacide and clarifier but I don’t use chlorine tablets but I guess yo do because the heat in Texas I’m in Chicago we only have 3 months with hot days… for shock your pool buy the htc 4-1 shock from Waltmart it’s like 35 dls for 6 packages me you can shock your pool once every two weeks mine was green last week I shocked, put clarifier and vacuum the bottom and todays the water is crystal clear
Nice! Thanks for the tip. Texas is too hot right now. 😆
I’m interested in getting the system because I am not wanting to use the chemicals that are typically used in the pool systems. How well does it do as a standalone system without dropping any other shock or chlorine type chemicals into the pool?
@@tanyason1138 even if you buy the saltwater system you have to shock your pool every 2 or 3 weeks to keep the water crystal clear . But highly recommended This is my third season using my sand saltwater system without issues my pool is 5000 gallons 18’x9’x 52 in
Where did you get the ladder from? I have a 12x24 rectangular Intex pool. I have the regular ladder that came with the pool.

I have just opened my brand new salt/ sand filter and my vacuum the first time had sand in it and when I backwashed it actually looked like mudd coming out. It did clear up and I rinsed and turned back on, but was wondering if this is normal with the salt water? I have never had that happen with my other pools with chlorine.
I’m not sure if that’s normal with the salt water system specifically. When I backwash, the water coming out will be cloudy for about 60 seconds. Then start to clear up. As soon as it’s clear I will rinse for another minute and start the filter back up.
Been thinking of doing this.i have hard time keeping my pool from turning green i go through paper filters every few days
Yes!! We had a traditional sand filter pump and had algae problems constantly. Once we switched to the salt we have not had any issues with murky water or algae. We use an algicide once a week just in case!
filter bills Amazon u won't have to pepper anymore
Hello, I originally had the older version of this salt water system and it had no problem producing chlorine. I upgraded to this system last week and it will not produce chlorine. Did you have any issues that maybe I could troubleshoot? I’m afraid I may have received a faulty cell. Thanks in advance!
Hi! Thanks so much for watching.
When first setting up we had to level the PH before the chlorine would start to show levels high enough to register. We also used shock after the PH level was stabilized as well as used the boost setting on the chlorine generator. We have not had any issues with consistency once we get the levels up.
So it just took 1 Bag?
I'd like to make the switch to salt, but I worry too much about the rust and corrosion.
The sun seems to be more damaging than the salt water is. The metal components are all sealed up well and I have not seen any signs of rust yet (this is our 3rd season since switching to salt)
Texas mosquitoes gotta love ❤️ them 😂 I’m in Texas too …
Yes! They are particularly bad in our area sometimes. 😜😜🤣
Stupid question. Where do you put the salt at??
I’m dying over here
I bought the exact same setup. I'm totally new to the saltwater thing. Is the "cell housing" what you are calling the saltwater generator? please help lol
With the Intex system it’s integrated into the pump itself. In other pump systems it is a separate part that sits in line with your water flow.
To answer your question; yes. The cell housing unit is the chlorine generator. 👍🏻
@@csorbera23 thank you
Hello what's the name of the ladder you have. Would love one of those.
Hi! Thank you for watching!
We acquired ours secondhand and it’s an older version of which I do not know the name. There are lots of similar styles available online! And we love having the steps inside and the lockable ladder outside.
Link on where to purchase one of them ladders or ones that come with these pools are so flim

Wondering if your pool is metal or plastic? Someone had shared that there Intex pool because it had the metal structure would eventually corrode with the salt water so to be careful the type of materials that are in the pool or making up the pool. Wondering your thoughts?
Our frame is the ULTRA XTR from Intex. It’s rust resistant galvanize steel as well as powder coated. We haven’t seen any rusting issues ( we have more issues with the sun baking the plastic pieces ). This is our second season with the salt system and so far so good! It’s definitely worth the rust ‘risk’ - that’s how much we prefer the salt water!
@@csorbera23 Thank you so much for sharing😃
@@tanyason1138 you’re welcome! 😁
Add a zinc anode to prevent corrosion. It's the sacrificial piece. We have an inground and have had a salt system 7 yrs no corrosion.
How many bags of sand did it take for that size?
I believe it called for 120lbs of sand for the sand filter. 😁 when we bought the pool sand from Home Depot, it all had to go down under the kids feet on the floorboard of the car. 😂 they had a cramped ride home.
What kind of sand did you get and how many pounds of salt did you put in the pool?
Just whatever they had at Home Depot! We put the recommended amount per Intex instruction. It will be a different amount for each pool setup depending on size.
Hi, do you know or could you find out the centerline diameter of the legs? Also, did you have rusting and corrosion on the steel frames using the saltwater system? Thanks alot!
The sun seems to be more damaging than the salt water is. The metal components are all sealed up well and I have not seen any signs of rust yet (this is our 3rd season since switching to salt)
Thanks for your reply! I setup the pool already and will be running the pump and salt soon. Thanks!
Fun! Enjoy the pool season! I’m about to post another vid on some more maintenance so go ahead and subscribe so you can see when it posts.

Hi, I setup the pool and saltwater filtration system following the owner manual. I ran the chlorinator for about 16 hours and still no chlorine yet. I purchased a salt reader and it read about 3100-3200ppm so there's enough salt. How long did you have to run yours to get the chlorine level at about 2-3ppm?
I have live in Houston,Texas and it is not hot there compared to New York. You may think it's hot there but in reality it's not. When I lived there it got about 110° and it was amazing. When it got to 60° should of seen ppl walking around it sweat pants and hoodies I died laughing. Only reason why I say it's not hot there is because the humidity is always low we are always high on high with weather the humidity is what makes it hotter. But love the set up need to try it. But how was it turned to salt just by adding the salt ? I see other add another part to it.
Thanks for watching.
Houston is very humid and hot.
@@homehealthymama I didn't think so when I lived there. That's why I said it compared to new york
Mommy !!! Mommy !!!!! Listen to your kids !!!!
lol with 5 little kids the “mommy mommy’s” don’t stop. Ever. 😂
I have this exact same model and this is year 2 for me as well on it. How is yours holding up? Mine seems to not want to make chlorine as well as it used to, even though the salt level is fine and I keep the electrodes clean.
Ours is holding up well so far. Every so often if the chlorine levels seem a little low I will run a “boost” on the pump. Also if your PH levels are off you could run into some problems with your chlorine levels.
The Intex website has lots of good information specifically about salt water pools. Here is the link:

@@csorbera23 thanks for that. I've subbed and already watched a few of your other videos!
Thank you! We do have a lot going on with the 5 acres and the kids are enjoying the pool as I type this!
Also, FYI to anyone about to buy a salt water generator look for one that changes polarity it will last wat longer!!
You may need to add more CYA so the sun isn’t burning off your chlorine so fast.
what brand did you use for the sand?
Quikrete brand pool sand - we got it at Home Depot.
Did you have to do anything to remove the chlorine that was already in your pool
Nope! Salt water systems create chlorine that’s a higher quality and easier on the skin but it’s still chlorine. Sunlight and evaporation degrade the chlorine and the chlorine generator converts the salt into this chlorine in a cycle.
Where did you get this ladder??
We got it second hand from someone. It doesn’t have any name on it that we have found.
Hi - did you guys need to order or add on a saltwarer system or does this one unit have everything you need?
In changing from the traditional pump to saltwater, we did replace the original pump with the Intex Krystal Clear Saltwater System. This is an all-in-one system that has the saltwater chlorine generator built into it.
How much salt did you used?and what brand?
We added 4 bags of Morton’s salt. The recommended amount for our size of pool.
Thank you
Hi thanks for the video , im new on this, i purchased our pool intext 19x9x52 , arrived next weekend , i dont wanna chlorine on our pool because we have a kid , and i was looking for other options. We lived in Florida, i already have salt water system on home and i think to fill the pool with that water , can you give me some information of im right ? I saw in the video just need install the new pump salt water system on the pool and eliminated the sand pump filter? Do you have a email i can reach you ? Appreciate
A water softener that you add salt to for your home is very different than a salt water pool pump.
Yes, you can fill the pool with your homes water, but you will need a salt water generator and pump with sand filter to keep your pool looking great. ☺️
@@csorbera23 thanks for the answer , can you share with me what I need to buy to do salt water in my pool ? And if I wanna keep the regular chlorine pool what I need to keep my water pool in good condition !! Can you share what Chemicals I have to buy Thanks a lot
Was your water this clear to start off with?
Hi Kaye! Yes, our pool was already running with a traditional chlorine set up. We swapped the sand pump for a bigger, more powerful sand pump with a salt chlorine generator. We love it!
@@csorbera23so you just changed the pump system and added salt ?
How many gallons is your pool. And what size of machine did you buy?
Hi Michael! Our pool is 20ftx48in and holds just under 8000 gallons and this system is the Intex 2800GPH Sand filter with Krystal Clear Salteater System.
@@csorbera23 what other goodies do I need?
The pump comes with everything you need to get it set up and going except the sand.We used Kwikrete pool sand purchased at HomeDepot. We bought our vacuum and the hoses it needs from Walmart ( mainstays brand ). The skimmer basket ( Intex brand ) was also separate and was purchased on Walmart.com from Walmart. I highly recommend the skimmer basket but it’s not a necessity.
We use PH up/down to regulate the PH as well as a clarifier and algicide to keep it crystal clear.
We JUST uploaded a video on the maintenance today, actually. It should be available later today and has more info on the upkeep.
@@csorbera23 ok thanks!
How much sand do they recommend for the bottom?
Hotter than Florida
If you put it away in winter it wouldn’t break in cold weather.
Yes! We definitely have plans to do things differently this winter.
I hear that the salt eventually rots the frame of these pools?
We’ve heard that as well; this is our second season with salt and we are not having any rust issues. Our plastic pieces are brittle from the sun but the metal pieces are as nice as day 1. We even had a tree limb crash through the pool and we had to replace some of the metal bars and plastic ts.. it all went back together just fine.
@@csorbera23 thanks for the response, I have an intex ultra frame, with sand filter. Thought about salt water system but then seen the videos I mentioned. 👍🏼
Ok nails across chalk board!, 🫣🫣
Thank you for watching!
Salt pool is same chlorine!!! And salt pools have to add more Muriatic Acid because of constant high pH. So salt pools have even more bad chemicals. Not to mention salt pools are even more expensive because you have to add $1000 salt cell unit and buy new one every few years.
We have had a great experience with switching to salt, check out our maintenance video to see how we care for our salt water pool. ua-cam.com/video/V47diIO17SQ/v-deo.html
I didn’t say it’s bad experience. As pool professional I was just sharing myths about salt pools as if it’s not chlorine pool😜 Either you add chlorine or salt will add it for you. Same chlorine. And plus salt pools always have high pH struggle so you have to add more nasty Muriatic Acid to swim in. In reality salt pools are less healthy and more expensive to maintain.
@@Bitcoin-Busa ain’t nobody spending thousands to maintain an above ground saltwater pool man chill out
@@504jumpoffboy I run my own pool service business. Every salt pool above or inground pool spends a lot of money to maintain it. Chill out. Salt cell unit cost $1000 which you have to replace every few years and every few months acid wash it along with also washing filters… Salt pools are expensive to maintain and you get to swim in more muriatic acid.
Just buy another intex saltwater system. They cost a whopping $189….
Sand filters are the worst on the planet. If you love your health get normal cartridges filter system.
Come to Phoenix Arizona it's 114° rightnow 🥵
