  • This is our First Season, opening up our Salt Water Pool. Last season when we first opened up our pool it was still a 100% Chemical pool.
    In this video, we will go through the super simple steps that we take to open up our saltwater pool along with some pool opening tips.
    Amazingly, it was easier than we ever imagined. We are still so thankful and happy that we switched last season from Chemical to Saltwater Pool.
    We have no regrets at all and for those who always ask us, we have absolutely no evidence of any deterioration or rust anywhere on our pool's framework or legs.
    With a few important items that you will purchase before each pool season ends, it is super easy to keep your pool covered all year long and open it back up with clear blue water that only needs some light vacuuming and very little if any balancing of the pool water.
    All the items we had used during the winter are pictured here in the video.
    They were all purchased on Amazon (See the links below).

    • This could take short time or even longer depend on your pool's current chemistry.
    • Once your pool is reading normal range levels (balanced) it is time to
    • check your saltwater content with a saltwater test
    • strip and determine how much salt you will need to add to your pool.
    • Turn on your pump for FP settings and then turn on your saltwater system
    • for the required time for your size pool capacity/size.
    • For your pool boost cycle time and/or if you are putting salt in, it is 8x the amount of time you normally run your saltwater system based
    on page 19 of your Intex manual.

    What can I say? We were flabergasted about the fact that our Saltwater Pool did not require one single additive as it was already 95% balanced. We expected to have to show you a lot more detail about getting the water balanced but we didn't need to. Are we elated? Absolutely. Can I say it again ? Make the saltwater switch. Less worries, less time maintaining, less money out of your pocket. Hands down the best decision we ever made to make that switch from chemicals to a Saltwater pool.

Good luck and we hope you will be in it too! We should just go ahead and buy the winter kit ahead of time before the price goes up. 😉

      I’m brand new to owning a pool/saltwater system. When you say getting the water balanced…what are you adding to achieve that?

    • @MoverandShaker
      @MoverandShaker  2 роки тому +1

      @@jordanwilliamson3797 Your measuring Total Hardness, Total Chlorine, PH, Free Chlorine, Alkalinity, and Stabilizer. So if you have pool test strips for a chemical pool you would test the water to see what you are low on and then purchase the products in your nearest home improvement store or pool store. If you have a Leslie's pool store in your area they are amazing at testing your pool water and spitting out a report on exactly what you need, how much you need and then at what time and what order to put it in. So once the water is balanced, you put salt in, then you run your pump for 24hrs, and then you will begin boosting depending on the chart specifications for your size pool. Ours boosted 32 hrs I believe but everyone's is different. Once your pool is in this stage, you will probably very rarely ever have to add much to your pool as long it continues to stay balanced.

    Great start up video. This is going to be our first season with the sand filter and salt system so I will follow your lead in the fall. I did install a Hayward skimmer along with the sand filter and I’m pretty happy with it so far. Our cover wouldn’t stay on so our pool was essentially uncovered all winter. As you can imagine it was a mess but it’s finally almost ready.

      I would sell that pool cover that won't fit and get you one that will and buy the saran wrap stuff to wrap around it and a pool pillow. It opens up so crystal clearn and less headache for you next time, plus during any rainstorms salt water won't be splashing all over the metal supports where they connect because it will be covered.

    Pool looks amazing. I found your videos from searching salt water startup videos (purchased the system this year) to know what I need to do even I fill pool up (get water tested before adding salt or not). I'm also glad to see that there's someone on here from VA that leaves their pool up. I've been nervous about doing that so I take mind down every year. Im over at the foot of the blie ridge mountains side.
    I do have one suggestion tho if pool supply prices ever go down. You should upgrade your inlet strainers to 1.5" to get the most out of your sand filter. I did that to my previous pool and to skinner pulled so much better. I also upgraded to a Hayward inwall skimmer last year which is nice also.

    • @MoverandShaker

      Thanks for watching our videos. Yes, we love our saltwater pool! We were insanely nervous at first with mostly confusion but now we realize we made the best decision we could have ever made.. Now we have so little to worry about. Thanks for your suggestions we have always wanted to accomplish your ideas as well but just nervous about cutting into the pool to make the Hayward skimmer switch and switch over to the 1.5" hoses to the pump as well. We are planning on relocating in the next few years so this equipment and the pool will stay but we will try it on our next new pool install.

      @@MoverandShaker I was also nervous about cutting into the pool to do the 1.5" inlets (done them on my first pool) but I was given a free pool so honestly wouldn't be out anything if I messed up. Now the skimmer on the other hand is a different story. We bought a bigger pool last year so cutting into a brand new one was unsettling lol.

    We have an 18’ x 48” about 7500 gallon above ground (best way) we did chlorine last year and I bought a salt cell to use this year instead of buying chlorine. We took it all the way down (drained and put away) I have never used a salt cell - when we get it all set up and filled again, I was told to run the pump for about 24 hours with about 4 bags of salt before turning on the cell. What do you suggest I do to officially open with no water and having to start fresh?

    • @MoverandShaker
      @MoverandShaker  Рік тому

      You should fill up your pool 1st and circulate the water for 8hours with the pump on and then get a water sample to your local pool store with a sample of your water. At this point, you need to follow the suggested add-ins in order to get your water completely balanced before starting the salt water chlorinator. And yes that means you have to put certain chemicals in your pool first. Once your water is completely balanced then Then slowly add your salt per the saltwater manual and you will need to let it Circulate for the amount of hours for your size pool to make sure everything has dissolved very well. Then you need to check your salt levels with salt water strips to make sure It's in the range for your size pool after that you should be on cruise control. The only time we've had to add more salt is if there are heavy rains or we do more backwashing than usual. We very rarely ever have to add anything 2our pool again.

      @MoverandShaker  3 роки тому +1

      Yes we LOVE our SALT WATER SYSTEM. So much money saved on NOT BUYING Chemicals, not worrying, never having to research anymore and never been unsure again. Yes, we did have a slight green pool scare but sometimes rain, and neglect can do that. We have a Green Pool Scare Video if you want to watch. It will show the before and after at the end and what we did to get it back to normal.
      Salt Water is the way to go. At first we were very intimidated but it we were able to get through it all and now we do make sure we vacuum every other day or so and we run our pump 8hrs and 6hrs on the chlorinator. We manually plug it in each day. We aren't that high tech. The timer would work but we don't like the outlet being exposed if it rains.
      You really should reconsider. The Salt Water System does produce it's own Chlorine and santizes the pool but you still have to vaccuum and remember that the pool has to be Balanced before you ever run that system in boost mode for the set up. If you don't your wasting your time. Good luck if you try again.

Whatever isn't you need to fix it first. Once balanced, look at your chart in the Salt System book to find out how much salt for your size pool. Add one bag first with only the pump swirling it around with a brush so there is no chunks. Add next bag, do the same thing and so forth. Don't over salt or you will have to drain a portion of your pool water in order to get the salt back out. Put your pump on FP (free pump). Let pump run for 24 hrs to circulate salt. The next stage will be to run pump in FP, Turn on Chlorinator and set timer for the desired time based on your manual instructions for normal operating time. Then Hit boost. The System will run 8x the amount you set it for. Once this cycle is over. Use SALT WATER CHLORINE GENERATOR TEST STRIPS 40 CT amzn.to/371fPQk and make sure your PPM is within range based on your manual's specifications. We run our pump 8hrs and Chlorinator for 6hrs everyday but everyone's times are different based on pool size and equipment so make sure you follow your manual. Also, you have to be diligent in vacuuming your pool at least every couple of days, otherwise neglect will create problems. when you are in your pool, you do some cleaning for a few minutes on the surfaces and the liner while you stay cool.
