  • in the early 2000s Canadian Beer Brand Alexander keiths introduced a new spokesperson. A scotsman who would defend the honor of the pride of nova scotia whenever someone at a bar treated it with nothing but the utmost respect
but in the wake of his growing popularity something dark happened and he went from being in a popular series of commercials for being a mere Canadian pop culture afterthought. this is the Ballad of Rob Smith
this video uses excerpts from The Toronto Star, Global News, The Globe and Mail and Saltwire
    Special thanks to
‪@BetamaxKing‬ and ‪@walrusgiggles‬ for preserving these commercials on youtube.

Well, we'll always have the Foster's guy, and the Sam Adams guy.

Hey man, well done. I loved the guy, he was all over TV here in Nova Scotia and I thought he was hilarious until all of this came to light. He was actually on printed media like posters in bus stops and things as well.
Now these are just awkward to watch but I'm glad you covered and discussed the character and this specific moment in time for Keith's beer.
    Also thanks for the mention.

It’s sad that one of the better Canadian spokespeople ended up being a sick freak
Oh well we still have the A&W guy

That's true, he's still at it.
Thanks for touching on another significant topic too - the decline in the prominence of truely Canadian television in the streaming era. That's a conversation all its own really.

@BetamaxKing it’s a recurring topic on my channel. I go into it in my teletoon unleashed trilogy video (warning those are early attempts at videos and aren’t as well crafted but the point is still there)

Great work as always. I actually remember these commercials but I didn’t know what happened to the guy. That’s pretty twisted and sick. Would you ever do a video about the Canadian tire couple?

Oh shit that’s a series of commercials I had completely forgot about but I think I remember everyone hating them 😂. Il have to do a bit of research

@@generationwhyentertainment2455 Yeah I wasn’t a fan of them either but all I can really remember about them is that their guy look like Ned Flanders. I used to say that he should play Ned in the Simpsons movie.

@oktoberK I think that guy actually may have lived in my area as a kid (I lived near the Danforth-Beaches area)
My dad Fucking hated that guy

I knew Rob Smith. He performed stand-up comedy and made numerous appearances in many movies, TV shows and animation, not to mention even some videogames. He was also the dub voice for lead pirate Teisel in the Mega Man Legends video game series (which I worked on the first one alongside Jef Mallory but didn't make the final version) Rob had an extremely wide range of talent and versatility and brought a lot of enthusiasm and charisma in the roles he took. He was also a very dedicated man who supported many causes and hosted charity events and fundraisers. I will say it's a shame that child porn ruined the life and career of a fellow Canadian thespian. I wouldn't say he was a pedophile but a very sick man who needed serious help with that. So please don't hate me for saying this. R.I.P. Mr. Smith😞

yeah i mean you're entitled to have positive memories but he got 2 years in jail and that didn't stop him soo
i wont drop a RIP but if you were his friend you have my sympathies.
he ever do anything in the Mega Man X series? i know that was dubbed in Canada

In court, it was claimed he had a porn addiction and became desensitized to regular porn so he substituted it for child sex abuse material.

Well… I’m still naive on Canadian media, but another piece of a media personality having their career go to shit because they have some gross skeletons in the closet? You’re on a roll.
Probably should make a mini-series on this, at least.
    Still waiting for WildBoys. 😅

Wildboyz is comin. I have the audio recorded. Whether I release it in September or November is based on how much free time I have.
      October is strictly Halloween shit
