Use the drill bit / borer in reverse. It cuts slower and the teeth wont rip the plastic apart.

I use a 18gal tote with 3.5" holes in it.
The tote i used was pretty soft plastic.
When they were little i did the same thing with the big utz cheese ball containers.as they grew i made new ones with bigger holes up higher in the container

Dan and anyone else wanting to drill thin brittle plastic...try running the drill in reverse. It will still cut but not so aggressive.

I did something similar. I utilized an empty 2.5 gallon water jug. Cut a few holes in the side it worked well. I’ve also used an empty milk jug as well. The milk jug isn’t quite enough if you have more then a few ducks.
The ducks are sure growing. They grow so fast. Great video 👍🏻

The only way I can imagine it is with the milk jug on its side, is that how you did it? Did you use a power drill to make the holes? I'm hoping you have an alternative to the drill for budget reasons.

@@rashonryuu When I used the milk jug I just used it upright. I didn’t put it on its side. I cut the holes just using a knife.

If you support the bin INSIDE(over the corner of a table with a scrap piece of wood under) your able to reduce the stress cracking that is SOOOO FRUSTRATING!!!

You were supose to put your drill in reverse to drill the holes. You are using too much pressure while drilling. If you place your tub on a corner of an old table, board.. ect. You wouldnt push on the plastic. You can also place tape on tub to drill then take your tape off and wash... gently. 😉😊

I tried that waterer with a milk jug and it worked well for about 3 days and then one of the ducklings actually got in there and almost drowned. So needless to say, I won’t be using this method. I have no idea how they got their whole body in there and it was a pain to get out.

Get rid of the chickens and just raise ducks! Ducks are sooooo much more beneficial for the garden, and their eggs are waaaaaay more nutritious than chicken eggs, oh yes and they lay more eggs annually, even in the winter. They also have better personalities than other poultry birds.
