It is awesome to be able to learn from others and apply their ideas to our own farm/homestead. Hey you don't need heat lamps if it is warm enough. Thanks for watching Doug & Stacy!!
Thanks Celeste! Yeah we have to give them water often too. We ended up using a gallon waterer on top of the paint pan and that lasts a little longer but we do refill their water a few times a day. When they get a little bigger we will implement our Duck Shield to reduce the mess. If you haven't seen our No Messy Ducks video check it out here. ua-cam.com/video/gD6dppU8ZbY/v-deo.html Thanks for watching!
They don't NEED a pond. They really only need enough water to get their entire head into so they can clean themselves but they do enjoy getting in the water. Thanks for watching Eli!
Great information! I absolutely love ducks. Doug and Stacy have Indian Runners and they are soooo cute. Look like they have little shoulders without arms. Soooo cuuute! I had to say that twice! LOL Watching your channel has me convinced I want at least a few. I think folks get too fussy about the messiness based on what you’ve shared. Yes, they’re a wee bit messy but they’re ducks! Ya mix water and food you’re gonna have backwash! LOL Just part of the process. Really appreciate this information, thank you for being so encouraging. God Bless you all ~Lisa
Thanks Lisa! They are cute! LOL You are so right about the backwash. We are so glad that you enjoy our channel, we enjoy all of your lovely comments. Thank you so much for watching!
How did you attach the light? I'm going nuts with all these chickens. I know they should not be in the house but they are. I have them set up in 2 different big plastic containers. But they are out growing it. I'm going to have to put them outside with lights and build a pen like you have there. How far does the light sit up away from the bedding?
Cindy the light has a clamp on it but I think we still used a hook so there was no way of the lamp falling on the bedding causing a fire. The light is a good 12 to 18 inches away from the bedding.
I am aiming for raising ducklings in my house, in one room along with a bathroom that's isolated from the rest of the house... Plz tell me is it possible to raise ducks like this? I am raising them for meat and eggs for small family. It is 4×5 meter sq room with a window. I can let the ducklings go out in a yard that's fully cemented only.
Asma Y no it's not fair to them, you will seriously regret this as they are very messy and they smell. These are not budgies they are farm animals, so please respect the needs of the ducks. They need water, tons of it, they need to preferably swim as that's how they clean themselves which is necessary. They need to look for grubs etc , this is the nature of the bird.i suggest you get quail instead. Do some research because these cam be raised inside.
great ideas...won't work with pekin ducklings though, by two weeks they were about a foot and a half tall and great at knocking over a water bottle....it's been 4 weeks and they are over two feet tall though still very fuzzy..we've taken to tying down the water bottle in a corner and they still manage to drag it free about once every two days...having raised chickens last year i can say pekin ducklings eat a LOT more than chicks and are much wetter..but i have a pond and a pond needs ducks so...yea....
Thanks Meow Meow! Ducks grow super fast and especially Pekin so once they get bigger you can use our duck shield idea to limit the mess. If you haven't see it already here is the link. ua-cam.com/video/gD6dppU8ZbY/v-deo.html
Welcome to the Big Pond Farm Family!! We are happy to have you Lorella! It is awesome to know that we aren't the only ones that ditched the city life for a life in the country.
This is something else I'm interested in learning about raising. I think ducks would do well at our farm. I like ducks and had them growing up as a child. I like a ducks personality. Thanks for all of your knowledge on raising ducklings!
We also used Justin's chicken tractor to build a duck tractor! We made it larger and added a piece of wood in the center (so we essentially have a house and a run combined). We also removed the nesting boxes and roosting poles
That is why we keep the ducks in a pen in the mornings so they go ahead and lay their eggs. By about lunch time they have laid all the eggs and then we let them out on the pond. By dinner time they are hungry and when we feed them they come back to the pen. Thanks for watching Richard!
Knowledge in action! We just use the swimming pool and our heatlamps don't work 🤣😂👍👊

Great! Love the ideas because no one wants messy Ducklings or chicklings! 😁
Glad that you enjoyed it Gail! No messy Chicklings!! lol
Great idea for repurposing that chicken tractor! GENIUS! That waterer though doesn't last 5 minutes. I'm constantly giving mine water.

Man.....I wish I had a pond so I could have ducks. I'd choose duck eggs and meat over chicken or turkey any day. Baking with duck eggs is da bomb.

Agh! If only this video came out sooner! Took our little ones out of the brooder last week 😣
Sorry we didn't get it out sooner! Ideas for your next ducklings! Thanks for watching Kenzie!
Chicklings...lol. Thanks for the video. Looking forward to getting my first ducklings.
Ha ha ha yeah Chicklings! Thanks for watching!!
*I use water bottles. :)*
That is great that water bottles work for you. Everyone has to find what works for them in their context. Thanks for watching sweetirisfarm!

praying someday soon to have land with a home to do this. Pray it is God's plan for my husband and myself, don't like the city
We hope too that one day you will be able to have your own land with your own ducks!!
The ducklings are so cute ❤ Those are great ways to keep them clean and happy 😊
Thanks cozykitten! We like to share what we find that works for us.

Sonya Gregory you are welcome! I'm sure ducks would do great on your farm. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching Sonya!!
Three excellent systems, singly or combined! I'm sure many found this is going to save them a world of hassle! : )
Mike.....doing homework before dealing with a mess. This is something more of us should do. You're a great example for us to follow. Great video.!
Thank you Jerome!
What type of ducks are these because they are so cute 🥺😍
They are Khaki Campbells.
We also used Justin's chicken tractor to build a duck tractor! We made it larger and added a piece of wood in the center (so we essentially have a house and a run combined). We also removed the nesting boxes and roosting poles
Awesome that you built something that worked for you! It is all about figuring out what works for you and your homestead/farm.
Looks like a good system to get the ducklings off to a great start. With the pond its a good idea to raise ducks. Just a lot of work finding the eggs.
