Out of all the eggs from fowls, duck eggs are the most nutritious, followed by geese.
But what about taste?
I didn't know
Duck eggs make fantastic noodles. The color is so rich and the noodles are almost silky smooth after they are rolled very thin.
We will have to try that! We love egg noodles! Thanks
They make good cakes too. Ducks can swallow their feed better if they can wash it down, they like having water close to their feed, but they are messy little guys. Awsome insect control
All those Hans and 🦆 just for 3 eggs 🤣😂
Noodle
OMG, I told you you were encouraging me to get out and revive my land. I started today and without even asking, my husband got the chain saw, son got the weed whacker, and the other son is planning to take down a couple of trees. I remembered to take "before" photos.😀
That is awesome! we would love to see the photos!
When the duck asked how much the price of the massage was, he said to put it in his "bill" LOL
When I was a growing up in NH back in the 50's we had ducks in the coop with the chickens to help keep warm in the winter. The hIgh school home economics teacher who lived across the street loved using the duck eggs in class to show students the difference in their cakes.
The french use duck eggs in their dessert because they are creamier and fluffier then chicken eggs! I can't wait to start raising some too! Thank you for sharing the information!
Quite the kombucha assembly line you have there, great teamwork once again. Your concrete counter top seems to be holding up very well.
It always brings a smile when Miss Livvie does the outro, she's quite the young lady.
Thanks! We had a good rhythm going! Yes the counter top is working out great for us.
Lumnah Acres do you plan on making a countertop update video any time soon? I'm leaning heavily towards doing these for the entire kitchen and would love some honest real world opinion from someone who built and uses them. Thanks and great video as always
I can try to. Is there any particular things you would like to know?
Lumnah Acres yes actually i was wondering how the edges are holding up over all and have you had any staining problems? Would you do anything different with your construction of the top?
Got to love those Khaki Campbell's!!! I have 4 females, 2 drakes and have 8 female Golden 300's that are soon to be laying. Great video's keep them coming. I can't wait to see the outdoor kitchen build and see the finished product.
Thank you! Sounds like you are going to have a lot of eggs soon! We start back on the kitchen Tomorrow!
One happy farmer😊😊
Haha! You used Olivia's eggpron. Should I make a man sized one? It's weird to be sitting on my couch and see something that I made on a video. We love your channel so much. It is one of our daily habits that makes us feel good about what we can achieve soon. We are headed out now to try kombucha. Keep inspiring everyone!
Well done on that eggpron for Olivia - it was a lovely gift and it quite suits Al as well it seems :)
The eggpron works great! I think the size you made Olivia is perfect even for me! I bet that is a little odd! :) Thank you for watching! If you try one flavor you dont like or one brand dont judge all kombucha that way. Its like hard cider or beer they way you make it effects the taste
:) It sure DOES!
We got a blueberry grape organic grocery store one. Two out of 5 of us liked it(the parents). The 3 kids made faces and comments about fiz and smell. I make kimchi and drink kefer so am used to the fermentation. My husband and I are going to order a scobi and start a batch soon. Btw, following the kombucha with a beer makes for some pretty awesome belches😂
LOL! :) Brewing your own is awesome! Its fun experimenting with different flavors
Hi! I love your coop and your style. It was fun to watch and I look forward to more of your videos. I think your borrowed apron looks great on you!
That is super cooperation and team work!
Thanks!
Nice share with the ladies...enjoy your Saturday!
Thanks, you too!
The family that works together eats together. God bless you, yours and your lifestyle.
Wow, what a little helper you have. I hope mine turns out that way too!
It was nice to see this video. I first subscribed to your channel when you were making that rock wall, so I've only known your Homestead in winter. It was so cool to see the beautiful green grass and happy pasture chickens...lol. And that was the first time I've seen you not have to bundle up to go outside. That "eggpron" was super cute too. Thank you for the awesome videos! I will continue, and look forward to, watching y'all every day!
I'm going to have to find out how to start my kombucha. They sell it at Whole Foods and I tried it and liked it. Also you can make any flavor you want, just experiment! Thanks for reminding me about it, I totally forgot about it.
Linda McClellan I started mine with a bottle of Plain flavored Kombutcha I purchased at our local Fred Meyers. I used the bacteria strains out of it, added a small amount of sweet black tea I prepared and grew a thick healthy scoby
very cool channel, you are doing/living the right thing. my very best regards from Germany.
I look forward to your videos everyday. I am a new homesteader and appreciate all i learn from you guys. Question what are you mixing with the cranberry juice? Is it water?
Dude your puns are my JAM
was your kombucha kept room temp during the first fermentation? i love the ginger and lemon flavor and cranberry and orange would be good. i have very limited space to work with thats why i am asking, trying to mull things over. so those bottles are reusable right what about the caps?
Yes we kept it at room temp during the first fermentation and still now. The bottles are from store bought kombucha that we saved and the caps are too! We just keep cleaning them all.
Sugar booze
@@LumnahAcres so they wont go bad ? I mean no refrigeration? Or canning process? Im nrlew yo making kombucha
hi always appreciated the video is on point good afternoon Gina and Olivia love the sound of the ducks, keep up the good work, enjoyed the video till tomorrow same time same place, hi where are Mr. Biggs? ha ha. do you guys enjoy eating ducks eggs more than the 🐔 chicken eggs? God bless you all 👋 bye.. 🐓🐔🐖🐷🐣🏡👍👍👍👍
We enjoying baking with the duck eggs!
so nice to see all the greenery
Good day you guys at Lumnah Acres !! Great advice and information on why you keep and raise ducks and what breed of duck is best for you !! Cool drink, do you drink it at room temperature or do you chill it down before !! Thanks for sharing
Thanks! We drink our Kombucha cold, after we finishing fermenting it we keep it in the fridge.
Your daughter is a great helper!
OMG! TOO Funny! You crack me up Al. I just LOVE watching your videos and your enthusiasm. Miss Olivia is not going to like sharing her eggprin with Dad, is she? All "fresh eggs" are good for baking, especially when you walk out the back door for that "fresh". What a great hands on education Miss Olivia is getting helping out with all the farm happenings both inside and out.
Thanks! It will be interesting to see what kind of adult Olivia turns in too!
Wow what a difference a year or two makes. Less animals, less goats, and Pluto are still there. Olivia is so cute, and tiny. I bet you can't wait till all the building is done. Bye, Lumnahs!🍀🙋🍀🙋🍀🙋🍀🙋🍀🙋🍀🙋🍀🙋🍀🙋🍀🙋🍀🙋🍀🙋🍀🙋🍀🙋🍀🙋🍀🙋🍀🙋🍀🙋🍀🙋
All this mention of duck eggs, meat and fat has made me hungry for French food! Perhaps a nice duck cassoulet once those beans of yours are grown! Seeing Olivia help on the homestead so often has me wondering about the FFA and 4-H and whether they cater to homesteading or if there's a modern homesteading equivalent for young homesteaders?
We will have to wait and see if Olivia wants to get involved with any of these groups of if we need to make a Modern Steader group for kids!
i took the lip off the front of my nesting box and havent had to clean them at all
Thanks for all the tips great information
Yw, glad you are enjoying them!
This is my favorite channel. :)
Thank you!
Lumnah Acres all ducks love water to swim in
Your videos are so inspiring. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you! We are glad you are enjoying them!
That is the coolest trailer I have ever seen.
We, too, have chicken and goats and 5 turkeys and oodles of Guineas!! I was wondering if you have ever tried fermenting the grains you give to your chickens (especially in winter). we have a man we get Non GMO wheat and oats from and these are fermented for 3 days in a 5 gal bucket. We also add 3 TBS of ACV and one TBS of Molasses.
To say they love it is an understatement. Oh, our Khaki Campbells ducks will be here Tuesday!!!!! Yay! Thanks for showing us all you do! My 5 yo Grandson, Luke and I watch you every day!! He's a big fan too!!!
Loved this video. Can you direct me to a video explaining how you start making kombucha? Thank you.
Congrats for the number of views this has. I remember this one about Kobucha. Olkva certainly grown up in the last years. Sucha difference from simmer of 2017 to the winter of 2019.
That is some scoby, man!! I know it expands to the size of the surface, but look at it 🤗
I know right! Its HUGE! :)
I didn't see a video today but just the same there are plenty I haven't seen so here I am! Thank You Guys for sharing!
This just popped up in my feed. Boy, has your channel changed! I love seeing your improvement.
What brand/ size bottles are you guys using to bottle your kombucha. I currently use kombucha bottles from before I started making my own but love the glass bottles that you guys have. It allows others to see the beautiful colors of the kombucha once it is inoculated with your choice of beverage or fruit. Awesome vids by the way! Keep them coming.
Thank you! We bought Kingdom Kombucha before we started brewing and saved their bottles and caps
boy your videos have come along way in the last 2 years
It's 3 yrs later, what a difference 3 yrs make. Olivia now looks like a young lady not a child and Gina has come into her own.
I plan on living a cottage core life with a bunch of ducks so this was awesome haha
What did you make? I missed what it was called. Love your videos. Very educational.
I really admire your in ur ducks in raising.
Your coop is so cool.
That was a nice video.
I subscribed, hope to learn more stuff of self sufficiency.
I came on here looking to research raising ducks and I got a bonus kombucha viewing as well!!! I LOVE my home brewed booch!!! never tried cranberry though, but now i am gonna! :) I would LOVE to know how you kept your SCOBY from blocking up your spigot...
You have a really cool way of speaking. Good job
Hiii...we have The Hamm Family Farm in Brooksville Florida..i started watchong weed em and reap and then follwed hope to your familys channel..so i am going backwards. I started watching this and im like this guy copied New yolk city from the guy in the snow....well its spring time in this video..lol so cute. We have a lil luna. And our banty hen just hatched 15 chicks. First time hatchery over here. And we have goats. Thanks for the tips! God bless.i hope to start a youtube channel with my 4 year old daughter and hubs.
Can't wait to raise my own chickens and ducks
Love your Kombucha recipient with the spout pourer, care to share where you got yours, like to buy one similar !, Thks
What size is the jar you make your Kombucha in and where do I find one with the stainless steel nozzle? Also, how much juice did you put into the bottles before adding the Kombucha? And lastly, it looks like she fills the bottles to the top. Do you have any overflow problems with the second ferment with the bottles that full?
Love your vids, love your attitude toward life, keep it up!
Great Video folks!
Olivia is a neat kid. You guys are great parents.
It looks fun.
That is very nice tea drink. Thank you.
OMG where did you find the glass bottles? They are super cute and if a nice size. Do you have a link for us to purchase? Thanks
Odd question but what kind of wood flooring do you have in your kitchen?
Good Evening Al i raise Khaki campbels here in the uk. Yes they are good for eggs But im not too sure about as a meat bird they are only skinny lol I think as a very good all round meat/egg breed Duck the best bet is Muscovys in my opinion The males get real big plenty of meat and the eggs are of a good size !!
DO you need to have a pond or a pool for the Muscovys?
Lumnah Acres no duck "needs" a pond as such they just need a bowl or whatever you have water in deep enough for them to be able to dunk there heads in the main reason is so they can keep there nasel passage clean /clear (2 little holes top of there bill) sure in a ideal world we would all have a pond for our ducks but it is not a necessity 👍
Phil Naylor get some muscovys lumnah
Muscovys are tree ducks. I had a pair for years, both of which laid daily. They should have a tub of water they can preen in, or they'll get dirty and disgusting. They don't need a pond, but really appreciate a place to swim. At least a tub in which they can preen is fine. You keep your poultry in a pasture, so I surmise that they'll be able to keep pretty clean in any case - just being exposed to a lot of grass. You can possibly get away without a preening tub.
Also, they are "quackless." They do not quack, and they're very quiet. They can be a little aggressive, but not like geese. They should be "gentled" like pets, which can avoid aggressiveness. I wouldn't keep more than one drake, if any. Also, they'll readily cross-mate with the Mallards. Eggs will be fertile, and produce a sterile "mule" duck.
They're nearly twice the size (meatwise) of Mallard breeds (like Runner Ducks or Khaki-Campbells). Also, their meat is very lean, and very low in fat. They have a veal-like meat, very un-ducklike. So, they're not a source of duckfat.
It's unusual for them to lay daily like mine did. It worried me and I actually called the breeder who supplied the ducklings. The breeder told me it's because I treated them like pets, and it's sign of contentedness. They'll start to lay at about three months. The eggs are larger than chicken eggs, about the size of a grade AAA Jumbo grocery store egg. The shells are a little harder to crack, and it takes a few days to get used to that. After about week they start tasting the same as chicken eggs.
Also, these ducks can handle the cold. They'll go out in sub-freezing weather without batting an eyelash. They can fly, so you should clip a few feathers off one wing (in the middle) every moult. They'll still be able to catch as much air as a chicken that way. They like to stay home anyway.
Hope this helped, and I hope you get several females to augment your poultry operation. They have a pretty engaging personality, as poultry animals go. If nothing else, they'll provide you with entertainment. B'H.
My parents had muscoys, They were ugly in both appearance and temperament! We had a small stream running in back of the house about 8 foot wide. Those mean, old hens would lay eggs on the opposite bank just so they could hiss at father and I when we wade across to collect. I'll grant they were good foragers, that stream was full of crayfish and minnows before the ducks took it over.
So a duck breed that has a good disposition, can be raised in a wash tub, quacks instead of hisses and stays within the poultry fencing and not make every day an Easter egg hunt is alright with me. I'll leave those vulture faced brutes to those who can appreciate their unique character (and flavor).
I like your tractor set up. Where did you get your electric fence and charger ?
Thanks !
Thanks, Premiere 1 it is the best!
Lumnah Acres ,,,Thank you !
I love Ducks, Amazing video
This is way random but I love your " log cabin " style house and are the Icelandic chickens good layers and or meat birds
Thank you. The Icelandics are great layers or meat birds but THEY ARE AWESOME FORAGERS for their feed. It for us they love the snow!
Every time you video in your kitchen I've been meaning to ask. How does the concrete counter hold up to stains? My kids can be slobs lol but I love the look of the concrete (had hubby watch your vids when you were making it). Just worried after all the work it'd get ruined.
We finished ours with tung oil. As you can see in the videos we use ours and I am not too worried about spilling on it. We dont have any stains! I love it and it cleans so nice!
What is the kelp for?
Where did you get those jars from that you were putting the kombucha in too
What age did your ducks start laying ? Our Khaki Campbell’s are 8-9 weeks old, we still can’t tell the hens from the drakes yet. I suspect we have at least 2-3 drakes. I hope they will be laying by mid August to late September.
Hi. Your video is really interesting. Nevertheless, duck eggs aren't sold in French stores anymore (except in some Chinese stores). You can find these eggs on small farms or homestead.
Thanks I didn't know that, the bakers must go to the farm then! That is awesome! Farm to table baking! :)
where to get that Kambucha jar for the fermenting, and the bottles please?
Hi I have a really important question for khaki Campbell duck eggs do you have to cool them down from an incubator
Where did you get the glass bottles for the kombucha?
It appears the chickens in New Yolk City took the night off from laying eggs. :)
Does the kombucha help with digestion?
Yes kombucha helps with digestion! It is a great source of probiotics!
Oh my goodness ! at 10:08 i got the biggest shock but it only lasted 1.5 seconds , it would be amazing if we could get a much longer appearance ! please try and show more in the next post. love you're work ethics and the barn is coming along just great, by you teaching your daughter farming and building skills it will make her a true, greater and more successful woman than any of todays "TEC" cultured girls .
You daughter is adorable! I am also raising khaki campbells! Cheers!
🇬🇧 Love duck eggs and the rendered fat makes gorgeous roasted potatoes and vegetables.
Congrats !!!! Definitely deserved 👍🤩🌟✨☄️
Where do you get the glass bottles for the kombucha?
Thank you for the info. Do the Khaki Campbell ducks get along with the chickens? Any issues? Want to get ducks that would share the coop with the chickens but I wasn't sure which breed.
We haven't had any issues. The ducks like to make a mess with the water
I have just seen a UA-cam video from The "Duckman" from Big Pond Farm on how to make a DuckShield to stop the water mess. Going to build one and see. Great video. Check it out. Thanks again.
Next year try some Indian Runners .. there a dual duck breed as well and they don't fly ... very easy to raise as well ***we used a kiddy pool and changed the water once a week we had a Well. so we could not change the water anymore than that ..
Thanks! Good to know!
Allyandria25 we had 8 runner ducks and didn’t like them so we gave them away, we now have 9 Khaki Campbell ducks
Oohhh I'm telling Olivia!!!! The kombucha looks great I've only tried it once. Do you guys refrigerate it or just leave it in the pantry?
Thanks! NO...... After it is fermented we refrigerated it
Man, Olivia is RIGHT in there with the process. Proof positive of good parenting. Well done. Oh, and don't worry dude, Kimberly's apron didn't make any of us want to pat you on the butt....LOL. I'm as 'hetero' as they come, and I'D wear that 'tool'! In fact, I'm gonna figure out how to get one made for me. Having breakfast for dinner due to a cracked duck or goose egg is annoying.
Thanks! We love breakfast for dinner! But finding a cracked egg is not GOOD!
In my experience, when rendered, lamb fat burns cleaner. It's better than many other animal fats for torches or lanterns. Beef, pork, and even chicken fat put off a lot of soot when burning, but lamb fat puts of very little soot.
Very interesting.
how long do those last and how long does it take to brew a new batch
They dont last long in our house we drink them right yup! They last a while before they go bad. It takes 7 days ish to brew and then 3-5 when flavoring
How many eggs are you averaging compared to the number of chickens?
It is the same with the duck as our chickens
Hi Lumnah Acres, Just came across your channel "AWESOME" Thanks
Can I ask, do your ducks return to their coup at night?
We only have chickens and they free range around our 10 acres, and go home to bed every night, we simply lock the door and all is good. I just wondered if your duck go home by themselves, if they do we will look into getting some as well.
thanks again
The ducks do go in at night but not as easy as the chickens. Some nights they go in sometimes the ducks sleep outside.
Try doing hibiscus and pineapple mixed. It goes this lurid purple color you do not expect to see in nature. lol
Give me rosters
The Nice Cage of Duck. How can i done like you. Thank you that you share good idea,
Have you tried a high protein pellets for your chickens? 17%+ may increase your egg production
So Kambucha is just juice and tea? What makes it ferment? Honey?
nice amazing ducks
What is that little solar setup you have?
What is in the glass container that you are adding to the cranberry?
how did you determine how much flavor to put in?
Does Olivia know that you were wearing her eggpron?? I still don't think that it is your color! Lol!
Actually a great idea! :)
I have some bib overalls that serve a similiar purpose. Lots of pockets for eggs and tools.
Olivia is so helpful in the kitchen with all that you guys are doing. She is learning soooo much!!
So, on the duck eggs, you have to use them in baking and cooking items and not like regular chicken eggs? Sorry for the question. We have never had egg laying ducks to experiment with.
Thanks for sharing!
No but she will when she watches the video! :) You can eat duck eggs just like regular eggs but they are really good for baking and cooking with! Great question!
Dan 821.....Duck (and goose) eggs are superior for baking and 'specialty cooking', but you CAN use them just like chicken eggs in the frying pan. That said, it'd be kinda like using your Mercedes to haul animal feed. Remember, MOST ducks and geese don't lay 365 like chickens. Muscovys lay about 20-30 eggs a year max, but geese only lay 12-18 a year in MY experience. They're here for meat after the first laying season. Since they'll eat lot of the 'graze' that chickens won't, the biggest advantage to having water fowl in with your chickens is having the need for only ONE pen/tractor. They all get along just fine if they are raised together from hatching. DON't try to introduce feathered ducks or geese in with a flock of chickens. The 'pecking order stress' will cost you a BUNCH of chicken eggs, and the ducks and geese may never lay. Hope this helps when you try some. Sorry for butting in.
singleman Thanks for the information! It's always interesting to learn something new!
I have a khaki campbell and a black road runner along with chickens .
Thank you AL for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden bye 👋 bye 👋 👨👩👧👸👕👓🐩🐓🐥🐈🌱🏡🎥👍👍👍
I love duck eggs! I have chickens, quail, pheasants, parakeets, and ducks. My ducks are mallards, so not to many eggs for me😭
Do they ever fly away and take awhile to come back. I would be shared of having pet ducks move somewhere else as I live by lakes with wild ducks
