As my first drone, I have been really pleased with it. I have flown into branches and the drone has fallen in a tumble then self-righted itself mid-air. Just amazing!

I couldn't justify spending 1000+ on a mavic even though i wanted too, this now solves that problem for me as i would only be using the drone every now and again.

If you are not a serious photographer or videotographer this is a good choice. No need to waste money when you dont have to. Most people including myself have drones that are collecting dust. Theres only so much you can do with these thing with the current laws. Im almost certain new laws will be enacted when complaints start piling up as people do dangerous things with this small drone.

It has been 3 months since I put my hand on a drone and I have Mavic 2 Pro now. Let me tell you that short history.
13 year old neighbor was flying his toy around the house. I'm 40.
I tried that and I went to the store to get DJI Tello. Little toy for $100. Two days later I ordered Mavic Pro Platinum. It was delivered , but I have noticed that there is Mavic 2 Pro with much better camera. Yep double price. I started sniffing online and got nice bundle with the smart controller for $2100.
I cannot be happier about that cool looking machine.
There is the market for this Mavic Mini - no questions about it.
But Mavic Pro / Mavic 2 Pro are a few steps higher. But it really depends what you are going to do with your drone.
I'm new to the droning , so my footage looks accordingly, but I would not be able or confident to fly with Mavic Mini the way I fly with my Mavic 2 Pro , thus not to be able the get the footage I want.
It really depends what are you going to do with the drone.

Just bought the combo kit one this morning! I will be using it for work. I'm a Building inspector and having to climb 3 stories on a extension ladder to look at a roof is not my favorite thing in the world. So flying up and taking a look without the worry of falling is a relief! Thanks for the Video, it really sealed the deal on this for me!

I bought a fly more combo from Amazon listed as used. It came in a nondescript cardboard box, but everything was new, and hadn’t been registered yet. Works like it was new, which it was, but cost under $300. I have had toy drones before and thought I was just bad at it because of my age (70), but this drone is easy as hell to fly! In wind it stays in the same place, like he shows here.

I think DJI nailed it for pricing e, pecially with the combo pack, affordable for young and old alike. As always, excellent first look & testing review, I figured you had your hands on this Drone Drone for awhile, dang NDA's, LOL! I’ll be looking for upcoming video reviews on this new mini drone, take care!

Looking forward to more reviews and information about this drone in the near future, before I make up my mind.
But the 2 most important questions are:
    1. If you don't own a drone, and are looking to buy your first one, is this a good choice? - Especially considering the price, I assume the Mini is a DEFINITE buy for new drone pilots, unless you know you want something big and professional like the Phantom 4.
    2. If you already own a drone, is the Mini worth buying? - This seems to be the toughest question. This is a direct competitor to the Air and the Spark, and an indirect competitor to the Mavic 2s. It's smaller than the Air and has slightly longer flight time, but worse camera and most likely less stable. At best this seems like a lateral move, and not an upgrade.
As someone with a lot of experience with Phantom 3 Pro and Mavic Air, I can definitely see the appeal of this little gem of a drone. But I will not buy another super small drone unless they come out with something revolutionary. The Mavic 2 lineup seems to be the ideal middle ground for me, except for the rather steep price tag. I can not see the Mavic 2 folded up ever being too big to travel or hike with, as I always have plenty space for my Air wherever I go. I personally have no reason to go smaller, especially since that immediately comes with some side effects: Noisier, less range, less stable in winds, more prone to interference, worse camera, etc.
For me the Mini will probably not be a buy, but it's interesting nonetheless and I love everything that pushes drone technology further, and making drones more mainstream, so the general public might accept us more and be less scared of us =)

Aloha Kelly, I bought at 2am for 3 key reasons. a) It appears to be a great backup if my Mav 2 Pro goes down. b) I have Goal Zero Solar Panels that can charge the Mav Mini via usb cable while covering a natural disaster w/no power c) Off to Fiji Monday & I have to deal w/weight issues even on carry-on...this is a great option. btw, Now I can go to Walmart & get a smaller plastic bread container to further reduce weight, improve compact-ability, lol. Superb video...which I will use to defend my purchase when my wife wakes up in Hawaii and sees the payment. I am currently in Samoa so she can’t hit me with the big Koko pot. Is it a legit defense to say, “Honey, its cheaper than the Skydio 2”

Sean Ozz , Dji should have sent you a mavic mini, everyone wants to hear about the things sport mode( if it has it) and it’s speed in general. Speed is a pretty important flight characteristic to most people and I’ve watched at least 4 videos from channels that actually have one of the drones. It seems to be purposely downplayed or something. You would have included that speed info I figure. I’ve seen many comments on the reviewing channels asking about sport mode and speed in general, no one is even responding to those comments. Seems like dji commercials so far rather than actual reviews. No disrespect intended towards anyone, just how it seems to me. Would like to see someone address the sport mode/speed in general questions is all I’m saying.

Nice review Kelly. Great edit and information. I think Mini will be good for new drone pilots, but if you are already a Mavic Pro or Mavic 2 Pro or Zoom owner, I do not see too much that would attract that consumer group for the slightly smaller drone with fewer features. Personally, I do not see taking a knowledge test (some countries have for drones over 250 grams) or registration license to be a difficult/deterrent deciding factor. Cost is a big game-changer for I feel a lot of consumers, but without collision avoidance, I think new inexperienced pilots will be spending money on props and repairs? Thanks for sharing

All great points Addy. And you are right. This is not designed to take the place of a higher end drone like the Mavic 2. It is really targeted towards new drone pilots who don't want to spend as much, but still want a high quality drone. This one is very stable and easy to fly. I can’t remember the channel, but it was indicated there that in calm conditions with little wind the flight time was slightly more than 25 minutes. Flytpath’s channel was another that I watched and he got 27 minutes in hover. That’s surprising as I expected like 20 minutes max. No one is talking speed though and that’s disappointing, almost like everyone is avoiding that specific aspect as far as flight characteristics are concerned. So I’m thinking this thing must be fairly slow in that regard. Allowing only a p mode type slow speed is probably one of the reasons it has that long flight time.

Edit Drone supremacy and flytpath are two places I’ve seen reviews and drone supremacy had a good unboxing of the fly more combo, he had not flown the drone yet as he waited and unboxed for his video. I can’t remember flytpath review but I think it had some useful info.

Guoenyi Agreed. They’re intentionally crippling the capabilities by not including existing software/firmware. I am no stranger to DJI nerfing products to levels below the technical capability. It is annoying but most tech companies do it... The best people can do is perhaps giving dji feedback for harmless feature addition.

The longer range, 2.7 k video, and double the battery life were bonuses. I will still use Spark in tight areas where I need obstacle avoidance.

Great review! As a Mavic 2 Zoom pilot that often flies it with the white DJI Goggles, I'm a bit disappointed that the Mini does not support them. What's particularly confusing is the fact that the Spark and the Air, neither of which employs Ocusync, yet could be used in conjunction with the DJI Goggles. I'm going to have to pass on the Mini until there's some indication from DJI that the goggles issue will be addressed.

The Mavic mini will do all I want from a drone. I rarely fly it too far away, I won't use 2.7K until my PC can deal with it, so to have 1080p with 60 fps is perfect. And....a 3 axis gimble!!! I think I'll be buying.
