This is very interesting Dr. Doug but it’s confusing as AJ a plant based youtuber has started a daily talk with the tops in plant based nutrition for a month - Joel Fuhrman yesterday William Li today and they are also very persuasive. And Bryan Johnson the guy who is spending 2 million a year to study his body is vegan other than a collagen supplement. Course being a man suppose bones not as much an issue. I’ve decided to go with both camps and just try to eat more plants mainly dark leafy with occasional meat. A debate between you and Dr. Fuhrman would be interesting. :-)

I used to be vegetarian, and almost became a vegan, and I was the same way as you; not being able to eat meat, and every time I would think about it, go near it in the store it would turn my stomach, but slowly over the years I kept researching, and finding more that was being said about meat and being much higher level proteins than plant proteins and now I have completely turned the tables and I'm so much healthier now than I ever was. In other words, I realized it was all in my head when I would think about eating meat the cute little picture of a pig would cross my mind and literally turned me around so I figured if it was all in my head then I needed the truth, and then make my mind go whichever way was the healthiest.

You need to look at the research of Dr Christopher Gardner at Stanford University, Dr Valter Longo at USC, and research on the blue zones. Increasingly Pro Sport professionals are turning to a plant-based diet and a number of Olympians are now plant-based.

So drinking plant protein (pea) shakes for years is what screwed up my digestive system? Makes sense because that’s when my digestive issues started.

Great question! Unfortunately, I can't tell you what's safe or not for you without additional information and I can't give personal medical advice on YT.

thank you for this episode/information. I've "found" you through Debra Attkinson, Flipping Fifty. For many years I have followed an omnivore diet-- sometimes it has been vegan/vegetarian, then with times of craving meat and living in Switzerland the cheese and bread is also in phases (usually depending on the season) part of my diet. Good "clean food" is what I follow and mixed in with some Ayurvedic nutritional knowledge. In this video you are saying something, which got my attention, but maybe I didn't get it right-- I think you said, that certain (? or all?) proteins are not digested well with fibres. As fibres are super important of course, I will sometimes supplement with psyllium husks. A suggested way to take them (or Chia seeds or both) is at night time. But as I don't like that too much, I take in my late morning "plain yoghurt with berry-bowl" in which I also add protein powder. Now will this inhibit the digestion, respectively the absorption of the protein? Thank you for answering-- maybe this is useful to others as well.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful question! There are numerous variables to consider with optimal protein intake. That's why we have more dietitians than any other type of team member in our practice! To answer your question accurately we would need to know more about your intake and gut function. Since we can't give personal medical advice I recommend you consider checking out our community The OsteoCollective where you can ask this type of question or access our dietitians if it comes to that! www.optimalhumanhealth.com/osteocollective

Look at the research done by Dr Stewart Phillips in Canada on plant-based versus animal-based protein.

I wish vegetarians/vegans would do some real research on how bad mono culture is for the planet, as well as our health. And comparing that to herbivores eating grasses in a naturally sustaining ecosystem. Literally one of the only foods that I don't have a negative reaction to is beef.

The vast majority of monoculture crops goes to feeding animals. The Amazon Rainforest is being chopped down for cattle ranching.
