Protip for anyone in 2023 watching this video: A very niche use case but I found the Balanced Kinsect with the Triple Up to be amazing specifically against Ukanlos because of its "green extract heals everyone" effect. Ukanlos's tail is really easy to hit which means constant free potions for the whole party. Of course it's still great on just you, it's infinite healing. And if you have a culldrone you'll eventually cut the tail too!
If you wanna go on healing yourself use the Weight 2 kinsect. Not only is it the best KO bug, but with right stats as cutting type, you can off his tail with ease. Only spam charged kinsect attack (you got fast charge with this kinsect type).
Actually, marking a monster is useful for these things: 1 - Unlike MHW, you *can not* aim the Kinsect vertically 2 - You can tell the Kinsect to attack repeatedly without recalling it (possibly snagging a different buff); 3rd attack in a row is automatically a charged attack.
Also, the lvl 9 Speed Kinsect has the old "Pierce up" from 4U, which means that if you use a blunt kinsect and mark the head, you can get a KO with your bug Fairly easily.

Long Sword was my first love, but when MH4U came out, and I picked up the Glaive, it became my new favorite. To this day, it's the weapon I use when I'm up against a new boss monster or multiple monsters at once.
Insect Glaive has always been my go-to weapon when I'm up against more than one monster at a time or a boss that gives me a hard time. Aerial style just confirmed it for life.
I find that the marking shot comes in handy when you either cant seem to hit a spot thats too high up like wings. Or, when you swear you hit every inch of this monster and cant figure out where to get the orange buff from. Also, if you need a buff off the monsters back, which is normally never exposed or readily targetable and you're using aerial style. Jump off it and shoot the back

picked MHGU up again and the glaive is fun. i like that you start a monster encounter with a buff-fishing phase at medium range, you can mostly focus on dodging and working out some of the tells before you close distance. some of the easiest mount initiation in the game, too, especially in aerial style. something worth noting: the pheromone shot (R) can detonate barrel bombs from a decent distance (a bit longer than kinsect attack range), which is a somewhat unique property for a blademaster weapon and a useful niche for a weapon skill that otherwise falls out of usefulness when you develop your kinsect to be speedier
I picked up GU recently and gravitated towards long sword. I still love it but I was struggling with one of the early monsters, so I changed to an IG for the fight because I had tried and liked it. The fight became so easy I was honestly worried that the thing might be designed for beginners and I was now effectively cheating. Striker style moving Kinsect control to A allows you to charge the Kinsect attack while doing your main combo (hold A with your knuckle, press X with your thumb tip), so it's another good power type option and can ko surprisingly quickly. The b&b combo is more of an X X release-A than an X X A, but it works I guess. It's still not better than the others tho.
So, this is one of those weapons that's soooo easy to over commit an action with. I find frequently that it's hard to determine when the end of an attack has occurred and so I hit the button again and the weapon does the next several attacks afterwards and the monster is long gone and I can't evade out of the attack or anything. Definitely a lack of experience with the weapon but it sure is easy to over commit.
Thanks for this guide gaijin! Was an sns main and tried a bit of db’s in MHGU but insect glaive really suits my playstyle. Now I’m mastering it really hard! More power and much appreciation.
Some words on marking, using the mid combo mark swipe allows the kinsect to build up elemental damage without having to send it out over and over again as it dosen't come back unless called or runs out of energy. You usualy dont want to use marking for collecting extracts though as stated its inconsistant. Hope that helps :)
Marking a monster is actually very useful in certain situations and I highly recommend that you learn to use it properly. It comes in handy when you have the art attacking that buffs the insect and gives it an additional attack, and for monsters that constantly fly. If you send you insect up to a marked monster, it’s bound to hit the point you need at least once. And I’m not saying that as a 50/50 thing It literally always does
Awesome Vid! Looking forward to learning the IG - Just a heads up, the video says there is a link in the description for the Kinsect upgrades and I do not see that!

Hey gajin wonderful video. Glaive has been my favorite weapon since 4. Valor style looks like its gonna be my favorite. A question regarding the brave dash tho. Is it affected by evasion abilities like evade extender and evasion+2?
about Striker style: it is the only style where you can charge your kinsect WHILE doing attacks, vaulting, evading, and even in hunter arts! That's the selling point of it for the trade off. Also the "didn't border to talk about" part is the only useful combo of this style. "X→X→forward X" is the combo that matters instead of the one you have covered.
I held out on MHGU hoping they would port it to 3DS since the japanese version was there because I wasn't sold on the Switch, so I'm a bit late to this party. I actually used marking shot alot(I use the aerial marking shot to help reposition if I missed my jump) as well as the charged kinsect throw, alot of times the monster would be out of bounds for an extended amount of time spamming lasers or fireballs, so I send my mark em and let my kinsect (I call her Rosie) wail on him. Also, I didn't have a problem with striker, but I may give that alchemy style a try for it (I know aerial glaive is the hype, it didn't click for me.)
so if the new art (Bug Majeure) increases the power of the kinsect, and not just its precision as its description says, then it would probably be very good for power bugs and blunt bugs especially. ive also read that the weight stat governs a bug's ability to flinch (and/or possibly knock over) a monster rather than its stamina. so if thats true, even a weight bug would greatly benefit from this art more than something like a speed bug would
Can you argue that the new art+valor style also make blunt/impact type kinsects much better at wracking up KO damage? Because I've been really interested in that new art but rarely see anyone talk about it
I never bothered learning more about the styles until G rank lol. I just watched this video and decided to try out aerial style. Since I got very used to Striker, I think that its main benefit might be better aiming - the first few hits of the combo are somewhat stationary and allow me to easily hit whichever part I like. By comparison, the aerial style seems to follow a "constantly hit the monster no matter where" philosophy. Or maybe I just suck with it but I thought that the seeming "controllability" of the striker style was something that might be worth mentioning.
So for Aerial style, make a Kinsect that's, either, Balanced or Speed focused. For Valor, make a Kinsect that's, either, Balanced or Power to pair with the new hunter art (what I recommend from playing MHXX). My personal favorite weapon is actually better than it was in 4U
Just starting to get into GU. I played an insect glaive during MHW, but wanted to change to switch axe since I really enjoyed it in parts of Iceborne. I think I also picked the striker style glaive early on and was wondering, what the hell did they do to it?! Might go back and pick up an aerial glaive to help deal with the faster monsters the switch axe struggles with.
@@siediousswift8088 I was talking about the insect glaive specifically, not the whole "World vs GU" argument. (though I'm pretty sure they would have localized it anyway. If anything World is probably the reason they took so long to do it.)
I also think we would have gotten it regardless. The game was completely finished and at least half of it was already localized when MHW came out. This is easy money.
Good strat is go for white+red, then have your kinsect grab orange, but dont recall. When it runs out of energy, it'll automatically recall and you'll get the triple buff, which is your cue to go wild.
after hours of using extract hunter, I don't think I can say that it's good. it's good if you can hit it, but you're more likely to miss it 70% of the time, even when a monster is standing still, the enviroment and the monster's movement hinder it a lot. it also has a way too long cooldown, so you're just waiting a long time, and then not getting any use out of the art. it would be useful if it was just as inaccurate, but had a shorter cooldown, but an XL timer for something so inaccurate is simply not worth it, in my opinion.
Gunna have to disagree with you at the 2 minute point about the holding R aiming feature. Once I’ve got a body part marked I especially love spamming the insect to get in multiple hits to stack up that elemental damage with the added bonus of a buff coming my way. Super useful for when dodging long distance attacks from monsters and even more fun to have the kinsect attack on one side, call it back, and then rush in to do my own flurry of combos, meeting it halfway. The aiming feature also just feels more natural to me as I’m a convert from bow maining.
Striker Glaive is actually really good once you get use to the combos. No different from playing Striker SnS and rolling out of a combo to start another.
as an bug stick user, I agree with your statement, I am ashamed by most other bug stick users that continuously jump. I am a rare breed that focuses on getting buffs then pulling off combos.
It's funny how the tagging mechanics in MH4/X were basically worthless but they turned it into a really important mechanic in World. Not having Dust sucks but Aerial IG is so good.
Sooo... in valor you can combo a poke (forward+X), the kinsect-recalling A strike, then either X for the vertical triple hit then A for the super kinsect-sending tornado slash move which also has high motion value itself, or directly the tornado slash (also with A), and repeat. Broken ? Noooo... Totally broken with the new hunter art and a power kinsect ? Nooooo... Oh and not mentioning the valor step which Capcom should never ever have given for a weapon like insect glaive which is already very mobile and versatile (and even more with valor sheathe). Luckily they nerfed mounting, otherwise IG would be twice as powerful as it was in 4u,in which it was broken because you could mount monstrs all the time (I know what I'm saying, I'm playing it in 4u a lot)
the only link posted in the video description is to the changes and last three styles...thats honestly what i wanted to see most since it seemed rather complicated and a turn off in 4U 16:54 what the hell was that noise? lol
I agree with DIABLONAMEK on this one. Often the weapon you do best with, is the one that literally has the play-style you personally *get*. And it's often not just one weapon. It's often when you click with that 2nd and 3rd weapon when you feel you have the arsenal to take on everything due to experience and recognizing the advantages each of your best weapons have.
yep, in general I think he undersold striker style, just because the main combo is boring. easy acces to kinsect attack together with 3 art on IG, where every single art is really good, and a good main combo makes this style actually good. sure, quite boring after some time, but still good.
@@Dr.AvenVon agreed with you. You can also cancel out your combo by throwing out your kinsect and just restart combo all over again. This makes your char also more stationary, unlike when extending full combo - which makes you move around like a slippery fish.
Orange is the Hardest? I've been getting orange the easiest and White the hardest. Then again... I DO just spam my buggy boi, I probably just get really lucky everytime.
It certainly does seem that way, but oddly easier than it looks. If you haven't tried it, I would give it a look. The basic thing I say is try to go for white and red extracts, and hopefully get that orange. A Triple buff is basically full on Cuisinart mode for Glaives, and literally is a Monster Wrecker. Lots of quick damage, plenty of critical hits, and parts just start breaking. You simply feel like nothing stops you. And woe to any smaller monster that tries to get in there and interrupt a triple buffed Glaive user during the Bread and Butter combo (typically an annoyance for other weapons). Also, the Red extract Aerial Spin attack (which I call the Sonic spin, or Samus Screw Attack) has a hidden secret. Often works as a good way to penetrate hard parts of a monster even if your weapon, in its current level of sharpness, otherwise, wont go through the hide.

For complete info check out the "yet another insect glaive guide"
EDIT: YAIGG has some errors in what kinsect upgrades into what, so don't follow those, but read what each skill does, and the hidden skill of tier 2 when it reaches level 9, specially the full speed kinsect, which receives minds eye with the white extract. the upgrade to the full speed one which gives tremor resist with orange, cool stuff
Key note
Balanced Kinsects can spread their buffs to non Glaive users in genU, however it’s half of what the glaive user gets+no rock steady
Also, I didn't have a problem with striker, but I may give that alchemy style a try for it (I know aerial glaive is the hype, it didn't click for me.)
so if the new art (Bug Majeure) increases the power of the kinsect, and not just its precision as its description says, then it would probably be very good for power bugs and blunt bugs especially. ive also read that the weight stat governs a bug's ability to flinch (and/or possibly knock over) a monster rather than its stamina. so if thats true, even a weight bug would greatly benefit from this art more than something like a speed bug would
just bought this game and choosing weapon for the first time. I'm sold
Can you argue that the new art+valor style also make blunt/impact type kinsects much better at wracking up KO damage? Because I've been really interested in that new art but rarely see anyone talk about it
So gaijin how about that new kinsect guide you were talking about
I never bothered learning more about the styles until G rank lol.
Kinsect tutorial when?
Im waiting too
Hi gaijin on your video you said you will link the description of the guide for building kinsect but all i see is for MHX not for MHXX or MHGU
Did gaijin ever actually make the updated Kinsect guide? Can only find the MHX one
Where is the link for the Kinsect guide or Kinsect progression?
Insect glaive is always my go to 🤷🏻♂️
My first monster hunter weapon ever (in 4ultimate). Still love it!
Could u put in your describtions, also the relative videos for your Top 5 "weapon type"? That would be pretty nice :)
I don't care what anyone says, world's glaive wishes it could be as good as this.
Dequan Milete we probably wouldn’t even get this in the West had world not sold well.
You already know I preordered this in a snap
the most hurting insect glaive nerf for me is the removal of the extract extender kinsect
19:28 did he ever do a video about the new kinsects?
Now THIS is something I like.
Well, the marking is still useful againts monster with hard-to-reach parts to get red/white extract (especially with speed kinsect).
Where's the G Rank kinsects video? Can't find it in your video history
I like the IG, really fun weapon to use.
I honestly never aim for triple up because you can’t refresh it mid-buff
I will say though, Bushido style is pretty good if you like being super aggressive, and once you know how to judge your windows.
That shout thing shocked & scared me XD
Gunna have to disagree with you at the 2 minute point about the holding R aiming feature. Once I’ve got a body part marked I especially love spamming the insect to get in multiple hits to stack up that elemental damage with the added bonus of a buff coming my way. Super useful for when dodging long distance attacks from monsters and even more fun to have the kinsect attack on one side, call it back, and then rush in to do my own flurry of combos, meeting it halfway. The aiming feature also just feels more natural to me as I’m a convert from bow maining.
Insect Glaive is my favorite weapon and the best weapon in the game imo you know next to sword and sheild but I use the IG because it *bugs* monsters
aside from deviants, what are the best insect glaives for each element?
YAAS FINALLY INSECT GLAIVE
Striker Glaive is actually really good once you get use to the combos. No different from playing Striker SnS and rolling out of a combo to start another.
pecobro 64 I thought I was the only one who used striker
@@infrarogue it's my go to Glaive style.
You have 2 types of IG players, What the bug do and pro
Yea im maining that. Valor makes it pop even more for me.
Gaijin Must Be A Master At Nargacuga!
This is all well and good but how do you get that targeting reticle?
Looks like we gettin that triple color bug move in sunbreak. Hopefully we get the aerial style moves too!
He didn't do a video about the new kinsects, right? I look everywhere but it seems to not exist
Please take note, folks. You see all the fight after the "changes" section? No jumping. Your combos are savage, please stop exclusively jumping. lol
i will stop exclusively jumping when i am a corpse
as an bug stick user, I agree with your statement, I am ashamed by most other bug stick users that continuously jump. I am a rare breed that focuses on getting buffs then pulling off combos.
@@thetriggeredmimikyu3277 I normally buff first but if I have to I'll yeet myself out of the way of an attack
So... is that G-rank insect guide out yet?
would appreciate this as well
Aren't you making the top IGs for MHGU? What's your opinion on the researcher?
Ie been playing MH XX (Japanese ver.), is it possible to move my progress to MH Ultimate Generation (English ver.)?
It's funny how the tagging mechanics in MH4/X were basically worthless but they turned it into a really important mechanic in World. Not having Dust sucks but Aerial IG is so good.
In actuality, the marking ability is MORE useful in 4U through GU because you can't aim your bug vertically, and marking is your only way to do so.
Waiting on that kinsect video..
Um no with red the forward poke does do second hit. However the forward lunge indeed does not 10:00
Sooo... in valor you can combo a poke (forward+X), the kinsect-recalling A strike, then either X for the vertical triple hit then A for the super kinsect-sending tornado slash move which also has high motion value itself, or directly the tornado slash (also with A), and repeat. Broken ?
Gen ultimate has more than 8 levels of kinsect...has he updated perfect kinsect past level 9?
the only link posted in the video description is to the changes and last three styles...thats honestly what i wanted to see most since it seemed rather complicated and a turn off in 4U
16:54 what the hell was that noise? lol
Just pick up this game yesterday cause I think it's still too early to play RISE.
and I want to learn this cool weapon thanks!
all you really needed to say was "extract hunter is the big yeet"
I finally got mhgu not that long ago but I’m so torn between sns, ig, lance and cb
Just use everything
I agree with DIABLONAMEK on this one. Often the weapon you do best with, is the one that literally has the play-style you personally *get*. And it's often not just one weapon. It's often when you click with that 2nd and 3rd weapon when you feel you have the arsenal to take on everything due to experience and recognizing the advantages each of your best weapons have.
Still planning to make that kinsect guide?
mh is tmmrw bois :)
I personally like Striker style. I am pretty ok with it. I use it mostly for my arts, for synergy w my set. Startup for attacks is too slow tho.
yep, in general I think he undersold striker style, just because the main combo is boring. easy acces to kinsect attack together with 3 art on IG, where every single art is really good, and a good main combo makes this style actually good. sure, quite boring after some time, but still good.
@@Dr.AvenVon agreed with you. You can also cancel out your combo by throwing out your kinsect and just restart combo all over again. This makes your char also more stationary, unlike when extending full combo - which makes you move around like a slippery fish.
Ive been playing MH XX (Japanese ver.), is it possible to move my progress to MH Ultimate Generation (English ver.)?
Yes
Does anyone know where the hell the kinsect guide is? I don’t see a link anywhere.
Orange is the Hardest? I've been getting orange the easiest and White the hardest. Then again... I DO just spam my buggy boi, I probably just get really lucky everytime.
Its hard to pull of that combo consistently. Seems like i have to get the timing on point
The kinsect element is intimidating, but I should try it again some day!
