You are so blessed to be as healthy as you are! I’m 65 but full of osteoarthritis and have fibromyalgia so I don’t feel well, very often. It gets so old having daily pain. I love camping and my daughter and I were able to go south 5 hours, to see the solar eclipse!! We decided at the last minute to rent a van and sleep in it! We even had both our dogs 🐕 🐶 with us! Soo much fun!! ❤❤❤❤. I really don’t know how I was able to manage it, but I did.!😊
When I was born my oldest sister was 16. I remember as a kid, she was of & married but she had me over a lot. She’d buy those boxes of pizza mix and we would make that at her house! Great times great memories!!
I told my hubby, what kind of vacation was it for me if I spent most of my time cooking, so like you , I opt for quick and easy. loved these ideas. I am trying to reorganize my freezer. I told my husband this morning that I would like to go ahead and prepare as much of he meats in the freezer for meals and either freeze dry into meals or package up as frozen, that way if the power was off for an extended period of time I would at least have cooked foods already prepared. We don't have a large solar yet, just the baby blue. but we do have a gas powered generator. thanks to you and Jim for the videos. love them.
I remember the Chef Boyardee pizza kits! Loved them as a kid. Losts of good ideas for meal bags, instead of the usual bulk meals. Chili dogs, pizza, taco's. I don't eat these foods often, but when I get a craving it's nice to have them on hand in the freezer. Thanks for sharing!
I have been single for quite a while now so cooking / preparing for 1 has its challenges. I now do things the way you do and wow, what a game changer! I love it. Pushing 80 huh? You are beautiful. Can see you have made it a career at taking care of yourself. Good for you. I do the same. New to your site and now subscribe. Anything else I can learn I am all ears.
I would rather prep at home and have meals ready to take camping. Of course you’ll always have hotdogs and hamburgers but those are easy. I did a lot of meals and froze them before knee surgery and that was very helpful.
Pam you are simply amazing! I learn something new with every video you make. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, experience and fun ideas for us. 🥰
Im with you Pam, I dont want to spend my holiday time cooking !! I’m going to use your amazing camping trip food storage ideas, and be completely prepared for next time. You and Jim are such a great help…
I am trying to not rely as much on my freezer ( after having lost a freezer full of mostly meat when my freezer just stopped working and I noticed it about a week later). So I can the majority of my meats and fresh vegetables. I do manage to have a couple of frozen entrees in there. I also buy a lot of canned goods for my pantry. So what I do is make some meals in bags (I know that ypu made a video on this a while back). I use pantry items that I have on hand. I have also started making meals in jars using freeze-dried foods. I like having a variety.
I remember the Chef Boyardee pizza kits from when I was a kid! I don't think I've ever had a pizza elsewhere that tastes like they did 😂 but pizza night was still special and fun as a kid. And I think it was your channel a while back that inspired me to start putting the last serving or two of a meal in the freezer, instead of letting them sit in the fridge for a week and getting tossed out because we were sick of the leftovers at that point. Makes for a great quick lunch some time later when I'm in the mood for it again.
We are camping right now, have used your ideas of pre packaged meals. I cooked up chicken thighs for two different meals, Lemon chicken and stir fry. Also pulled pork for BBQ on buns, with a side dish. Going to make your stir fry veggies one night. I pre cooked white Jasmine rice and brown rice before we left using my Insta pot. Love the community you have created, everyone who writes comments are respectful and share their ideas. I’m with you camping safely, we are in a full hookup camp ground. The only boondocking we do is on our son’s 35.5 acres with other family members Labor Day weekend, we call it “family circling the wagons”. Some with their trailers or tents. So much fun. Our next camping trip will be in Utah, thank you for sharing places we should checkout. Love from Colorado
I loved this video, as I try (sometimes, when I remember) to make up some meal packs for my husband and myself. But I do have some questions, after watching a number of your videos: 1. I notice that you freeze things in 'ziplock-type' freezer bags. I had used those for a long time, but found that I wasn't able to really get all the air out, so they ended up getting freezer burn. So I have switched to vacuum sealing. I'm wondering if you could address that in one of your videos. 2. You talked about freezing soups and liquid-type things flat. Again, I did that for a long time, either stacking them on top of each other in the freezer (after being frozen), or storing them upright in a bin, similar to what you discuss. My problem with that was that I had to take them out to see exactly what they were. I now freeze them in a meal-size rectangular container, then after they are frozen, I remove them from the container and wrap them for storage. I also find that the shape of a rectangular item doesn't really 'fit' a bag, because it ends up having 'corners' that stick out. So I wrap it tightly in plastic wrap, then in freezer paper. But I would like to see a little more about your method.. and/or pros/cons of freezing flat vs my current method. I'm always looking for improvement. 3. Finally, no matter what I do, my freezer space ends up pretty chaotic. I've heard you mention you have 'bins' for different things in your freezer. I've sort of tried to do that, but I haven't been able to find the right combination of bins that fit my freezer space(s). I have 2 chest freezers and one side-by-side freezer space. Would it be possible for you to actually show the inside of your freezer with the bins, so we can more easily visualize how we might accomplish this?
I am not that concerned with getting all the air out of those packages. We go through them fairly fast, otherwise I would vacuum seal. Yes, I will show our freezer and talk about how it is organized. I like your ideas as well. You have given a lot of thought to your method.
Have you tried using reusable grocery bags, they are usually lined and will stand up. (Even those large gift bags). Works great in chest freezer. And label are good but I am too lazy to do it. So i have a lot of guess what 😂. Have you tried just heat stealing the zip lock bags.
Nice idea with the grocery bags. I don't heat seal or vacuum seal these meal paks because we rotate through them quite fast. If I was planning on longer term storage in the freezer I would definitely vacuum seal the food. Thanks.
I like to freeze meals the same way however I have a small chest freezer and things get really lost down inside that freezer. And beaten up moving things around. However, the standup freezers, which are much easier to see what you have in them, also have a defrosting mechanismto keep the ice from building up inside them. Technically, they are thawing and freezing intermittently. Which can tend to make the food, build up a little bit of frost. Therefore they do not keep the food as nice as a chest freezer does. So it’s a dilemma for us.
I wish everything was easy! Darn it! I had a chest freezer for quite awhile and got to the point I just couldn't stand it any longer so we gave it to a family who needed a freezer.
“We need to feed our own joy” Great words to live by. ❤
Yes!! Thank you.

Hi, Pam & Jim! Pushing 80 - no way! Such a great tip - freezing items flat so they can be “filed”. Thank you! 😊

Great ideas. I think the next time my tummy wants to be fed, I'm going to ask it if will also be feeding my joy, or just feeding my munchie monster.
LOL! Feeding munchie monsters is also an absolute necessity!!!

We do large batch cooking even though it is only 2 of us as well. I have been sick for quite awhile and always grateful, for the meals we make ahead!
Sounds great! I was ill this week as well and loved having the convenience of meals in the freezer.
Great ideas! Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Chef Boy-Ar-Dee Pizza Mix. It was so good.

I wish they still made those kits! LOL!
@@trailgrazers3690I just checked and our Krogers, Meijer, and Walmart stores do show they sell the kits.
Great ideas! I will try freezing the soups flat! I am like you when camping, I go for convenience! Thank you for sharing!❤

I remember those pizza boxes! Chef Boy ar Dee was the brand my parents used to buy. I don't think it's made anymore ☹.
I wish they did still make it! I loved those kits!
