No use getting so knotted up about tomorrow, nobody is promised a tomorrow. Set a goal, work for that goal BUT don't forget to try to find a little happiness everyday.

Hi Toni - that was some lovely looking chicken stock. Freeze drying some is an excellent idea. Well Saturday and Sunday I worked like a dog according to a neighbour - got the large greenhouse all planted and a small 10x10 garden weeded and planted before a huge deluge of rain came down yesterday and chased me inside. My husband has been working on building the other large greenhouse and soon we will be ready to get the plastic on. Still waiting on soil to be delivered - may not happen until next week as it is difficult for the guys to sift the soil when it is wet. Today is sunny and this morning we relaxed a bit while the sun soaked up some of the excess water and now we are going out to till the 1/2 acre garden and I will work until sunset to get it planted - have to get it done today as there is rain coming again tomorrow. I’m thankful that I have a seeder which will make the job go fairly quickly. Everything is preplanned as to where it will be planted so no wasting time trying to figure that out.

I had reached an end to my jar storage space, I had no empty jars to any extent as I had been buying more jars to keep filling more of them. A couple of weeks ago I realized that a lot of what I had canned and stored years ago was food that I would no longer eat, because my diet has completely changed permanently. So I have been dumping those jars out and filling them with whatever cheap meat I can find.

@jamesnelson1968 unfortunately, I do understand that very few outside of the canning community are willing to try perfectly safe canned food. In this case, their ignorance is tragic.

Look at that beautiful chicken stock, yummy. I will buy a store cooked rotisserie chicken and use the skin and bones with veggies to make a nice chicken stock.

I think this summer will be the real chalenge for the states. I plowing ahead with getting things as backups for household items that might go out on me. It’s going to be rough going for a while. I get concerned about people trying to appear as supporters of former president but are not.

Toni, you are a woman after my own heart and I love listening to you! I drank in everything my grandma did and most of what my mother did. I have spent the last four years expanding my knowledge as much as possible! Adding foraging, herbal medicine, learning cattle ranching and soil enhancement! I am in north Idaho, going on 74, so you are NEVER to old to learn new things🤗

Hi! My container garden is going well! I had a friend help me organize it using pavers and 2”x4”s to prop up some containers. First, to get better drainage, but second easy to manage as bending over is getting hard for me. I have Polymytosis with my MCTD, and my lower spine is arthritic. My bunching onions are looking sad...they are on their third year. So, next time at the grocery store will buy a bundle of them, use the tops, then put bottoms into a glass of water to get roots working, then put into a pot. The pot I put into my window during winter, they continue to grow and regrow as I cut each top. Mostly used as a garnish, a last add on at the end of making a dish, I started using them in my scrambled eggs to add a veggie and extra flavor. Starting them from seed takes too long, better to buy this particular style of onion at the store, already mature. 😃

Although it is just beginning, there are bits and pieces to harvest from our garden, so every few days, I take a walk around., chives and rhubarb right now....the odd cherry tomato and pineberry. Lots of lovage to dehydrate. I'm letting some lettuce go to seed. When I feel energetic, I get something out of the freezer that I can preserve in jars, tomorrow it will be beef stock, and I don't mind canned peas, so there are frozen ones that I can do up as well. One more month, and the salmon will be coming, so I need the space.

This channel is my online go to for all things informational as internet is extremely limited in my area. I need advice and everywhere I go seems to want to sell me some product that doesn't work... I have a snake problem on my homestead and have three young children running around, anything from garters to rattlesnakes to copper heads to watersnakes. This year so far is really bad and snake away pellets are a joke. We have many aromatics and herbs throughout property, mint, lemon balm, onions, garlic, chives and others that have been recommended. Removed all areas that they can hide and sealed every nook and cranny we can find. Three snakes today and currently one slithering in my ceiling above washer and dryer... Quoted at $800 for exterminator to remove plus cost to repair ceiling due to chance of rattlesnakes. My question is does anyone know if chickens or guineas will eat snakes? I would much rather risk a bird than one of my children getting bitten. I have a huge roll of garden mesh to install but need to clear out the area first. I live right next to waterfalls and rock outcrops with caves, mountain of oak and hickory so plenty of food and shelter for snakes. I cant cutoff their food supply or natural shelter but need to.keep.home protected. Anyone have any helpful suggestions?

Years ago when my aunt and uncle had a lot of rattlesnakes on their property, someone gave my aunt some guinea hens and 1 male. Several of the hens were "broody" and immediately started nesting on eggs. The rest of the girls (hens) became very protective and started eliminating any snake they saw. Took about 3 years before there were no more snakes. Their property was an oak woodland with high temps (over 100 degrees in summer) in northern CA. Good luck!

If you prepare and nothing happens you are just that far ahead. Growing up in Alaska years ago it wasn't an option you either prepared or went hungry. We lived far away from grocery stores and my mom shopped in spring and fall. 2 times a year. We grew gardens and ahe canned and we had moose meat. Had a root cellar for carrots potatos, turnips, and cabbage. Canned Blueberries strawberries rose hips currents.
