    11:15- You beat me to the punch Josh! I was going to post that 5 years ago, safety was not your #1 focus. I've watched some of your vids of you sitting in a Beast style stand with NO safety restraint. THANKFULLY you've come to realize there are people in your life who need you and who you need. A+++ focus on Safety Buddy!!!

      You've never seen me in a stand without a harness on I promise you. I always had my tactisaddle since I've filmed my hunts. That saddle just doesn't have shoulder straps so unless I showed my waist you just didn't see it.

    Attach your tether to the bridge before making the transition from the sticks to the platform - that prevents the fall, not the linesmans. belt

    I do feel all jacked up with a lineman’s. Trying to get used to it but it’s just a mess up there for me and I end up putting way less attention on all the other important factors.

    I’m guilty of only using my lineman’s When climbing w sticks. I Need to think about always having a tether attached in the future while ascending and coming down I just repel it’s just safer imo.

    Thanks Josh a good refresher!! I’ll never forget when I first started mobile hunting, finishing a hunt and realizing my cam buckle strap was only half on the button the entire sit.

    Remember all carabiners are NOT the same. Make sure your carabiners are rated for climbing!

    I still use a light weight tree stand the saddle
    Is just to expensive the ones I looked at for a starter it was over 300 for everything

    Come on Josh, a linemans is not life saving or fall prevention. Your tether should be installed along with a linemans. Linemans is for positioning, not fall prevention

      But that said great video. It's a topic that people need to learn more about. Many of the injuries we have seen I the saddle hunting groups came from sticks kicking out and people sliding down the tree and getting cut on their sticks. If they kept a tether with reduced slack they would not be as injured if a stick kicked out.

      I am the same way though. A few years ago I rarely wore a harness or linemans. But since I started saddle hunting I have gotten more safety conscious ( maybe that's cause I'm getting older 😂)

    A lineman's rope is NOT designed as a fall arrest system. It is designed for positioning. You emphasize using it way too much. While it is great for going hands free to attach sticks, etc, the safest way to climb is with your tether. All a linemans will do is slow your fall until you hit something that makes you stop like a limb, climbing stick, or ground. Also, probably more than 90 % of falls occur sometime during the climb up or down so leaving out the proper and safe way to use climbing stick is a disservice to new saddle hunters that may come across your video.

      @beforetheecho I apologize if I came off like i didn't like the video. Overall I think you did a great job. I was just trying to provide a little criticism and additional information to add to everything you said because safety is a very important goal. Good luck to you as well and thanks for all the time you put into your channel. 👍

      @@beforetheecho he’s right. The hunting industry is a little behind on climbing safety, but we’ve come a long way. A lineman’s belt really is a positioning device and will probably help in the event of a fall, but a tree tether is much better, especially when transitioning from the sticks to the stand. Great video as always

    • @elizabeth_williams
      @elizabeth_williams Місяць тому +1

      @lizzleyt5682 you're correct to a point a a former climber arborist there are always points where you will be off tether and reliant on linemans rope to reposition the key is to always be tied in. Both linemans rope and tether is always preferable but you must always have one or the other. Happy hunting

      Think this is a good video as usual!!! You emphasized being attached to the tree at all times. I agree sure a tether is always better but most tethers and linemens belts are rated weight wise for the same weight and made of same stuff. Sadly using any belt to climb is a VERY new thing for more then 50% or more of hunters. Most guys I know still don’t where a safety even once in a stand. I find this crazy coming from the arborist world but I say that and I never use tether while climbing ever. Linemens belt is fine for me. I do use my tether if I’m going around limbs as a second linemens belt. If you went by theory of tethers safer then comin out of tree you would alway repel but in doin that for half the season it was fun but after getting repel rope quick link hung up twice and having to reclimb tree in dark I was done with that!!! Take your time, make sure ropes are in good shape, practice, practice, practice and you should be fine!!! Great video as usual especially since your doin more then half the guys in the woods still whether people like it or not.

    Last year I purchased a ring of steps with a ratchet buckle. First time I put them around the tree and stepped onto the steps to seat them the pin on the ratchet broke. Glad it was close to the ground as I was trying to get a feel for them. Always test ur gear before ur 20-25 feet up in the tree. Needless to say I check double check and triple check my gear because unfortunately quality control isnt always the best even with the big name companies out there.
