Before the Echo

If I woke up tomorrow and could no longer pursue game, it would be hard for me to describe myself to a new friend. Hunting has been a part of my life as far back as my mind will let me wonder. My grandpa was a hunter, my uncles are hunters, and my dad is a hunter, it is part of us as a family. It's the topic of nearly all our conversations and our free time is spent day dreaming, preparing, and hunting.
Before the Echo is a vlog of everything that goes into a year of hunting for me. The name "Before the Echo" came from the importance of preparation, scouting, and thinking before the actual hunt starts. I hope to provide entertainment and knowledge to everyone that follows along.

I got the original Gonna wear it out before I try the turkey Worth the price
If only we could go back to tell our young selves something is a great theory. However our youngest selves would be to bull headed to listen and would still do the dumbest of things cuz we couldn't see past out pecker's or nose for that matter, witch ever ones shorter. 😂
Amen
I have taken white tails over 150 inches with cheap Camoflouge and tree stands from the local wal mart. I do believe in a good dressing knife. I have always used compound bows under under 800.
Got a og one got to get turkey one

Will draw it Monday!
@@beforetheecho awesome thanks Josh!!
I pretty much ain’t shooting past 30 even with my crossbow!
My uncle is a stone cold deer slayer. There was a few years he didn't have a car, my mamaw or papaw would drop him off before daylight, and pick him up after dark. I remember when I was a kid, he killed a doe behind our house with a single shot .410, and a slug. He hunted both modern gun, and muzzleloader season with a muzzleloader, to save money. He killed does and smaller bucks, but he also killed alot of studs to. He cut the skull plates off of deer, that alot of us would have paid good money to have mounted. I said that to say this, knowledge and woodsmanship, is key. However comfortable hunting gear is effective, because you can sit longer, and move less but it's not a necessity.
As far as cost goes, I still abide by "buy once, cry once." Research, buy and don't feel like you need a reason to upgrade. I've considered buying cheapo sticks and platform, but then I decided to buy the sticks that cost almosy twice as much with far better reviews and the platform that's larger for the same weight with, again, better reviews. You'll save more money just getting good gear off the rip after proper research and getting good with it.
100 percent agree. I'm more talking about buying the good gear then seeing someone with something different and thinking you need that because it might be better
Dnr should not have the right to pull cards on trail cameras unless a law is being broken
People think that baiting deer in the upper peninsula is unethical. Try shooting a 4 year old buck at a bait pile they dont cone in to bait up here. Only at night
Can you imagine paying 5000 for a 10 point crossbow i use a 500 dollar centerpoint crossbow and it gets more deer than my mr fancy pants neighbor lol
Im an indiana bowhunter and i use a compound and not a longbow but im glad i discovered Roberts youtube channel because i have learned alot from him and he has also made me want to really get into traditional archery. Its alot less complicated and looks like a whole lot of fun.
Dude I just got a saddle this year I’m totally doing this
Very good show again! You are touching on topics that nobody does! Thanks!
Hello from Oz - Great podcast and very helpful. I am just starting out trad and I agree it makes you learn more about the deer and I believe I am becoming a better hunter as a result.
Riteon good stuff
Good content, you got to come about 9 hours from your home . Scout , hunt this area with Greg L and I. We have a unique area with a lot of diversity, probably not what you are used to. Plus no strings. “ Hunt Hard “
Loved It!
Hey Josh hope you and the family are doing well. You got any bucks on the hit list yet?
Bro much respect on the message you are teaching guys like me. Keep it up bro great example for us
Gear acquisition syndrome. Heard that somewhere. Have cut back my upgrades too.
That’s how I roll! Built one I think I only paid money for the camo burlap I put around it and got that on clearance! Used old tin roofing for the sides
Way cheaper as welln😂
I bought A LOT of stuff that I thought I NEDDED…..Ended up being a lot of clutter in my closet 😩 Most of which I haven’t even opened.
Looks good to me.
Dude knows his trees for sure, great lil video, finally got a new phone and catching up on UA-cam videos is hard lol
ROMPOLA #1
He's 1 of my favorite hunters.. great interview
I just took up Bo lessons guys! Times are a changing and it’s becoming more obvious that we are going to have to find other ways to feed our family. I’m subbing
"That road might be tricky, so ya gotta keep looking up and heading toward that cross..." RC
"I let the feed trees do the callin" RC
Ive watched everything robert has put out. Just love too watch. Always some wisdom or good pointers.
I bought a Waldrop pac seat last year Highly recommended Pricey but high quality and cheaper than a good climber
Great guest! Robert was really helpful to me getting started in trad archery back in the mid-2000’s on Tradgang. It’s been awesome to watch him make the transition to UA-cam so a new generation can glean some of his wisdom.
You won’t go wrong with the Waldrop packseat!!! Extremely comfortable and lightweight!
Love this. Are there somethings that you recommend that are definitely worth the money though?
The problem with Feed trees is there are only one million oak trees out there and 99% of them are dropping acorns!!!!!
Jason Samkowiak just did a show on a longbow quiver he swears by. He says it’s the best. Maybe try one of those. But I think Jason said kind of expensive but worth it.
Got one it's a great quiver
Absolutely- keeping up with the high end, for years we hunted out of old wooden stands thought that was something, got older moved on to a summit viper and thought man this is mobile- found myself wanting to be in clearcuts and pack further in, moved to the vanish and xop steps, wow I’m getting from the edge and being picky on tree selection and just watching deer at a distance, the vanish put me in clearcuts, the. Thought I really want to push further into public. I watched 50 plus review videos on saddles, and paid attention to see if the influencers were being honest with reviews or just pushing products. Personally I have straight moved to not just having the big and bad pricetag, look I believe in this day and time it’s not pay for what you get or I hear pay once cry once. No. I still run my summit during rifle season, I run the vanish in certain areas and when I want to push and move around a lot the saddle gets put on. Mind you it’s not just one brand every outfit makes something that will fit your wants because all of this is not a need. You don’t have to spend 1000 dollars on saddles, look for sales, or my biggest go to is look on Facebook like”saddle hunter classifieds” I have bought several items this way, my setup is all mid matched but it truly fits my wants. People get into trends and then don’t like what they buy. And sell for a decent price or just don’t like what they get. That being said. Oh ps- PayPal goods and services- never friends and family- just as many scammers on Facebook hunting pages as any other ones. 🎉🎉🎉
I can kill as many big bucks with a $150 pawn shop bow, some arrows, broadheads, an Assault 2 tree stand, some Muddy sticks and my street clothes if I had to. Gadgets can make things safer, more comfortable and more efficient but don't make me a better hunter. Some common safety sense, hunting skill and embracing some lack of comfort can do the same things. Keep in mind, most of the Pope and Young and Boone Crockett bucks were killed with more skill than tech. People will spend hundreds of dollars to shave off 5-7 lbs from a stand and sticks. which makes no difference considering most of these guys take the same weight or more in gadgets. Buyer beware.
Robert is the MAN! A woodsman of woodsmen.
Look up David Toms ghillie bow blind.Pretty genius way to use a side mount quiver to your advantage
Another thing would be bows. Everybody wants the newest latest greatest bow and then they get it and use it for a year and then when the next one comes out they think they have to have that one. I do think it's good to upgrade a bow when you can but definitely not necessary every year. I've had the same mathews q2 since I was 15 and I'm 34 now and just now upgraded to a new bow this year. I didn't have the money for a new mathews or any high end flagship bow so I went with a Bear Species ev that I found on sale for 350 bucks. I haven't hunted with it yet but I've shot the crap out of it this summer and it shoots great. Heck you don't even need a treestand to kill deer either. You can actually be alot more mobile just hunting off the ground. It is nice to have sometimes but if you can't afford one then don't let it keep you from hunting. You can always save and get it later but it's really not necessary.
I mean with hunting you get what you pay for man once in a while you will find something great cheap before it blows up an they jack the price but if you want quality you pay for it don't buy anything without checking reviews
Great video brother it's seems that alot of the people I have followed for years are seemingly going away for the basics, thanks you for staying on track and good luck this year..
Heck yea! Thanks for yall your videos!
