If only we could go back to tell our young selves something is a great theory. However our youngest selves would be to bull headed to listen and would still do the dumbest of things cuz we couldn't see past out pecker's or nose for that matter, witch ever ones shorter. 😂

I have taken white tails over 150 inches with cheap Camoflouge and tree stands from the local wal mart. I do believe in a good dressing knife. I have always used compound bows under under 800.

My uncle is a stone cold deer slayer. There was a few years he didn't have a car, my mamaw or papaw would drop him off before daylight, and pick him up after dark. I remember when I was a kid, he killed a doe behind our house with a single shot .410, and a slug. He hunted both modern gun, and muzzleloader season with a muzzleloader, to save money. He killed does and smaller bucks, but he also killed alot of studs to. He cut the skull plates off of deer, that alot of us would have paid good money to have mounted. I said that to say this, knowledge and woodsmanship, is key. However comfortable hunting gear is effective, because you can sit longer, and move less but it's not a necessity.

As far as cost goes, I still abide by "buy once, cry once." Research, buy and don't feel like you need a reason to upgrade. I've considered buying cheapo sticks and platform, but then I decided to buy the sticks that cost almosy twice as much with far better reviews and the platform that's larger for the same weight with, again, better reviews. You'll save more money just getting good gear off the rip after proper research and getting good with it.

100 percent agree. I'm more talking about buying the good gear then seeing someone with something different and thinking you need that because it might be better

People think that baiting deer in the upper peninsula is unethical. Try shooting a 4 year old buck at a bait pile they dont cone in to bait up here. Only at night

Absolutely- keeping up with the high end, for years we hunted out of old wooden stands thought that was something, got older moved on to a summit viper and thought man this is mobile- found myself wanting to be in clearcuts and pack further in, moved to the vanish and xop steps, wow I’m getting from the edge and being picky on tree selection and just watching deer at a distance, the vanish put me in clearcuts, the. Thought I really want to push further into public. I watched 50 plus review videos on saddles, and paid attention to see if the influencers were being honest with reviews or just pushing products. Personally I have straight moved to not just having the big and bad pricetag, look I believe in this day and time it’s not pay for what you get or I hear pay once cry once. No. I still run my summit during rifle season, I run the vanish in certain areas and when I want to push and move around a lot the saddle gets put on. Mind you it’s not just one brand every outfit makes something that will fit your wants because all of this is not a need. You don’t have to spend 1000 dollars on saddles, look for sales, or my biggest go to is look on Facebook like”saddle hunter classifieds” I have bought several items this way, my setup is all mid matched but it truly fits my wants. People get into trends and then don’t like what they buy. And sell for a decent price or just don’t like what they get. That being said. Oh ps- PayPal goods and services- never friends and family- just as many scammers on Facebook hunting pages as any other ones. 🎉🎉🎉

I can kill as many big bucks with a $150 pawn shop bow, some arrows, broadheads, an Assault 2 tree stand, some Muddy sticks and my street clothes if I had to. Gadgets can make things safer, more comfortable and more efficient but don't make me a better hunter. Some common safety sense, hunting skill and embracing some lack of comfort can do the same things. Keep in mind, most of the Pope and Young and Boone Crockett bucks were killed with more skill than tech. People will spend hundreds of dollars to shave off 5-7 lbs from a stand and sticks. which makes no difference considering most of these guys take the same weight or more in gadgets. Buyer beware.

  • @a.j.taylor4401

Another thing would be bows. Everybody wants the newest latest greatest bow and then they get it and use it for a year and then when the next one comes out they think they have to have that one. I do think it's good to upgrade a bow when you can but definitely not necessary every year. I've had the same mathews q2 since I was 15 and I'm 34 now and just now upgraded to a new bow this year. I didn't have the money for a new mathews or any high end flagship bow so I went with a Bear Species ev that I found on sale for 350 bucks. I haven't hunted with it yet but I've shot the crap out of it this summer and it shoots great. Heck you don't even need a treestand to kill deer either. You can actually be alot more mobile just hunting off the ground. It is nice to have sometimes but if you can't afford one then don't let it keep you from hunting. You can always save and get it later but it's really not necessary.

I mean with hunting you get what you pay for man once in a while you will find something great cheap before it blows up an they jack the price but if you want quality you pay for it don't buy anything without checking reviews
