📚 Description: Someone suggested that we check out this auction together, so I decided to do it just as it was starting to record it live! Unfortunately, there were no deals to be had at this auction (probably because they were open to shipping the items) but it was fun playing along! What was up with that epiphone though? Haha

I had a bunch of lots in this auction tagged mostly for my amusement but didn't watch it as the lots I was considering buying were already pushing what I would have bid before it started. Next time don't go through Liveauctioneers, use proxibid.com to do your buying. The bidder's premium there was only 21% which isn't much but you start spending big $$$ adds up, and at least helps with shipping otherwise. Also, I don't know what the Liveauctioneers posting had listed, but the Proxibid listing for the Gibson Spirit had a photo of the box the P-94 pickup came in and the original Tim Shaw was part of the lot (still went a bit high IMHO.) Search guitars on the site once a week or so, not much passes through but I've seen some decent deals. I actually mostly do firearms auctions through them with similar reactions to yours, watching people bid items that are "as is" and that the haven't inspected in person up to where I could buy them from a reputable source with some sort of guarantee!

this auction is where retarded people buy guitars to sell at work on ShopGoodwill.com for a profit. Just wait some guy will post a video on youtube. I BOUGHT A USED EPIPHONE FROM AN ONLINE AUCTION AND NOW I HAVE FINGER CANCER
II
I think I fell into clickbait. I thought we were going to see someone scamming themself. ???
I’m looking forward to my daily dose of guitar information
YESSSSS! lol
Top 10 deadly addiction
Ive been waiting all day! XD
Damn right
Gotta get My fix
I can't believe I'm watching someone watching an online auction..
HAHAHAHA!!!! I shouldn't laugh, I'm doing the same damn thing. LMAO!!!
Pure guitar porn.
I KNOW!!! I've clearly lost my flipp'n mind.
Guit-ception? 🤔

I hate when they advertise Epiphones as "Gibsons" and Squiers as "Fenders".
"Fender Sq", hate that shit. I'm actually usually on the market for Squiers, really, but the market for those misses them, and the people buying a Fender are usually smart enough to read the Squier logo on the headstock.
Seems like everyone on marketplace likes to leave "squire" out of their listing title. Clicked on way to many Fender jazz bass listings only to see squire on the headstock...
I hate when idiots have no idea what guitar price points are and try and sell Squier bullets for $350
@@gunkanjima3408 “FIRM no low ballers I know what I have”
i am ok with "Fender Squier" tag. yet I hate when they tag it as "Fender"... and epis as "Gibson"
That Epiphone G310 Junior with a P90 is actually a guitar with quite the cult following. It was only available for a time during the late '90s and was not like the regular Epi Juniors, which are usually one humbucker guitars (at least then), but instead close to a '60s Junior. That gave them quite the cult following, as during that time, it was a fairly cheap way to get an SG Junior with a P90. Since them, they've held their value, or even gone up.
I had one for a short while, got it for a steal at $80 and was going to sell it for $175 and just got flooded with bids - I ended up using it for a trade (with some cash) for a Highway One Strat, so it was easily the most profitable guitar I ever owned (I ended up paying less for a USA Strat than a MIM!)
So while it was definitely above what I would say it's worth, with the following that model has, it's not THAT weird. And keep in mind all guitars have really shot through the roof in value this year.
Would you say the rise in value this year has been due to people stuck at home and wanting guitars all of a sudden, or do you think its also something else ?
@@maxmustardman298 Without a doubt it’s because people are stuck at home. It’s increased demand for guitars by a lot, which have helped drive up the prices.
Big headstock on that Highway 1 Strat?
Could you please reactivate the subtitle option on your videos. I am profoundly deaf and yours was one of the few channel’s that offered the subtitle (closed caption) option on all of your videos, so I was shocked to find that the option was not available on this latest video. When I can read your content, I really do love your channel. I know that it might sound odd requesting subtitles on a predominantly music channel but I do have a valid reason for making the request (I have recently become profoundly deaf). I shall not go into the details, suffice to say that opening this option will give you at least one extra viewer. (Been a subscriber for a long time). Many thanks.
i second the petition. not deaf, but i do prefer to 0 volume to not have ear fatigue (mix engineer)
At 1:38: The "Copper Colored Electric Guitar" is a 1959 Spiegel Baritone.
Spiegel ordered a batch in '59 from Danelectro. Sears was not happy with this, as they were buying thier "Silvertone" line from Dano.
Pointed head, outlined guard of a different shape than Dano, no logo.
Somebody knew what it was. I would say it's worth $2500+.
3:58 some sucker paid $1,700 + 23% for a $600.00 partscaster.
I guess some ppl just don’t know how to look past the first photo
he doesnt know what "lic by fender" means :/
Thanks for posting Trogly. Just want to say you've really helped me get through the lockdown in the UK at the moment. Due to time differences your videos normally appear when I'm settling down and after all the madness they help me sleep! Thank you
Really enjoyed this episode. Truly reinforces that will never own anything vintage 😭
Your shows are so well done. Guitar detective and master of everything guitar, I take my hat off to you. Love all your episodes. Looking forward to your guitar museum. Keep going. The world needs guys like you recording the great guitars of the past......and future. Once again, great work Austin.
Joe Bonamassa probably bid on a few of these
The coronet/Wilshire is my absolute favorite guitar shape to actually play. Beautiful headstocks too.
The Hagstrom 8 string bass is similar to one that Noel Redding used while he was in the Jimi Hendrix Experience, although his was finished in cherry rather than sunburst
Really enjoyed this episode. Really fun to hear your thoughts on all of these
The Es 335 have that slanted neck pickup ring on the originals. You can flip the ring around and it will look more flat on the guitar, but I’m pretty sure they came slanted like that when they made them.
Well nice to see fret n fiddle is open again, i used to live a street over.
There's a 1962 Stratocaster on there that has 10 days left on it; but it looks to be repainted in a thin red that's fading
Estimant top at $10k and the wood and plastics look pretty good
Take a shot every time he says up to the moon
Hey trogly would you consider reviewing one of this Epiphone 59 les Paul’s they just brought out to see how accurate they got it thanks
The Cornet is a great guitar , guitar player in my band had one ,they are great little guitars. And the Kalamazoo builds are the best of the breed.
Trogly: this guy scammed himself
Me: DJ Kahled suffering from success
Wait that meme doesn't make sense in this context lol
HOLY SHIT!!! Anyone see what those Fender Harvard's and Tone Kings were going for!!! Even that plexi gibsonette looks like it was going for a third its avg market price. I have a Tone King Sky King and can say without a doubt that its one of the best amps on the market period... you can't get a bad sound out of it... you can rock out in your bedroom with beautiful tube distortion and not bother your dog or significant other or you can play large open venues and its still more than enough, plus it'll do clean black face Fender or a crunchy Tweed all the way to a singing Vintage Plexi tone. All while having reverb, tremolo, and the capability to attenuate each channel and leave them at different levels... which really helps with creativity in live situations. I've never seen a used one for less than $2,000 and they estimated it at $800-$1,200
Edit: Okay so I saw at the very end where the Sky King went for $1400 + 30% and at least 8% sales tax as well as shipping I no longer feel like I've just screwed myself out of a deal... but that Harvard was another story, though there is no telling if it even works
Hamer is pronounced "hay-mer". As far as I'm aware, only the US-made ones are really worth one's time and money. A friend of mine owns a Korina Explorer like this one, and I bought a double-cut 'Steve Stevens' model from him, and I also once had an Exporer-shaped 'Blitz' bass. Great guitars! :-)
You went hard on the poor little Epi SG😂. Then you went a bit off the rails with the furniture and pottery. 🤔. Think Trogly got some cough syrup 🤪😂.
Ugh, i was looking at Wilshires and 60s solidbody epi's last week on reverb.
I still hope to get one and recreate my mc5 fantasy
This was fun to watch.
"It reminded me of something from Legend of Zelda,...." Amazing and accurate statement. Really enjoyed this btw.
You should do some of this stuff live, it would be a fun stream to watch
Pretty cool watching the last few minutes of an auction for some of these expensive exotic guitars. That could be a whole episode ;-) :-)
Hagstrom 8-String bass was what Tom Peterson had but he and Jol Dantzig decided to go further and created the 12 String Hamer bass.
Great video trogly...very exciting..!
I had a Danelectro baritone guitar for awhile. It sounded really nice.
That was cool, need to do more of those.😋😎😇
That Gibson acoustic is a really nice guitar if in good condition. The 335 looked mor like a 375. That chair was hilarious.
That arm and leg chair reminds me of Ralphs's dad's table lamp in A Christmas Story, when Ralph was wishing for a BB gun that Mom warned, "You'll put your eye out with that!"
Clockwork orange
Chair looks like a prop from, "A Clockwork Orange " or at least a replica of one from the opening scene.
I was getting excited when I saw the danelectro
Would you consider a doing a review?
Cheers Gav
Austin, when do you think you will get in the Fender tuxedo black Tele 3 pickup?....Any idea?
that was a great video Austin - more of please - I'd never buy an expensive instrument that I hadn't seen and assessed, it must be a faker's playground and acoustics - who'd buy w/out knowing neck angle , action and and nut height? you could easily end up with massive repair bills that would ruin resale value
Why are relic'd guitars worth more than a new guitar but worn guitars are worth less than new? I've been wondering this.
with a relic'd guitar youre paying for the "history" and the aesthetic.
When they make relic'd guitars, they have to make a brand new guitar and then spend time relic'ing it, so it takes a fair bit more work to make it than a normal one, which translates into a higher price.
The difference between a cheap worn guitar and an expensive vintage guitar is time, that's all. Pretty much any guitar you buy as long as you don't destroy it will be worth at least it's purchase price 20-30 years after it's new with many of them being worth more. Once nostalgia kicks in prices go up. I've already found myself paying higher than new prices for Schecters that came out when I started playing 20 years ago. A C1-XXX was $300 brand new when they were released (I think as a guitar center exclusive). Now a mint condition one can go for almost $600.
@@roberthenry6910 what history? It's new
@@Skrubenz a screwdriver, a knife, and 30 minutes of your time... relikd guitars are shameless
Those amps sold fairly well
Thunder road guitars in Portland or has a coronet in great shape but its 3400
At 4100 prs nebula would that be a good price in mint condition, with all paperwork and never been played, the limited edition 1 and five hundred were made ?
lol I love this channel... I like to believe there's another universe in which Trogly is a Fender junkie rather than a Gibson one. I'd watch the absolute fuck out of those videos.
Bigsby with a roller bridge is livable!
And locking tuners... that’s what’s on my SG... but he may also not like Bigsby’s because the string changes are a major pain in the rear. That’s why I put flatwounds on mine, those last so much longer.
I know furniture like you know Gibson's and some of those modern pies were going for a steal!!! I have seen pieces on occasion that went for $3000 and sold at Christies 3 year later for a million!!!
I think that Epiphone debacle might be a similar phenomenon to people overpaying on Goodwill auctions; it's all about the story. In this case, it's the story of surmounting all the other bidders, and basking in the thrill of victory. Also, I suspect auction addiction is a thing that exists.
Hamer korina guitars are fairly desirable and rare. They didn't make many. A buddy had a set a while back. They tend to be cheaper than the 80s gibsons. I got a steal on a custom korina explorer. A luther made it for a customer. Its a korina explorer with no name on it but its 58 specs. Its very cool.
Trogly, what do you think of the new Epiphone 1959 reissue les Paul?
I cant believe a parts strat sold for that much.
I saw an explorer listed, unsure of the year, but does anyone know if Austin viewed it?
that leg chair is pretty dope to be fair
About 10 years ago I was broke AF and had to pawn something to pay the rent or other crucial bill when I spied a Danelectro sitar hanging on a not so prominent place on the wall... $200 asking price. I was so pissed, because I could tell it was vintage and in good shape. I clearly remember an article in the 80's, I think it was Guitar Player, or another similar publication, probably by, or featuring, Tommy Tedesco or some other legendary studio cat. They specifically noted that a similar (It was bronzish or maybe "rootbeer" colored) example was so rare and sought after that the studio rental price for ONE DAY was right around the asking price of the pawn shop unit.
I tried everything I could to raise the $200, just could not scrape it up... I hope it went to a good home. This pawn shop was in the Fredericksburg/Northern Virginia area. Who knows, maybe it is still lurking in a dusty storage room still.
Fredericksburg, hmmm so many pawnshops in that area. I have hit a few of them up but never find any deals these days.
The red SG Junior is not a "modern day". Korean made pre 2004 most likely with the vertical Gibson on the truss cover. Older, plus Junior in an unusual body style, equals money. If you want a real shock/laugh, check prices on a Squier Baritone Jazzmaster.....
I SAW AN EPIPHONE CORONET AND GOT IN
Those things are really cool and nice they play great I got to try one
Rock On!
I enjoy watching you and these type of auctions.
I just drop my Dramamine kick back and try not to follow...
cant wait for the new epiphone coronets...been wanting a coronet for so long,
When will you review a Gibson Howard Roberts?
I'm guessing that SG was one of the Japanese models made at Fuji-gen. Very high specs on those guitars if it is, there's a market for them.
Austin is lookin't at chairs & jewelry boxes, it most be tuesday. 🤘😆
People love the tv specials
Im diggn the coronet
I love Hamer's. I am the original owner of an mid 90's American Hamer Diablo duo pickup aztec gold. The quality is as good or better then any Fender's or Gibsons of that area. I would still love an USA Duotone.... oh well someday
It looked like all of the Danelectros were modern. The easiest way to tell is that the vintage ones have a single, wooden saddle, whereas the modern ones have individual metal ones.
I would like to see an airline 59 and the headstock on that one shown is a different variation on it
Someone got those Eero Saarinen chairs and table really cheap. Here where their originally from one chair is probably more expensive than that whole set.
Is it set up that you pay tax on the finder fee as well?
do the snake pit story!!!!!! 🐍
Can we expect a Trogly furniture and statuette channel?
Hey Trog, did you ever do a video on the 72,73, 74 weirdo SG's?
On the epiphone, people lose their minds in addiction, oh I mean, auctions, sorry.
Can’t believe that supro sold for $450! Good luck ever finding one of those. I guess with the 22% and sales tax it’s about 575. Then you figure 100-150 to ship it, but I still think it was a steal at anything under $1000 bucks. Looked like the tv one with the knobs on the front and it had the black and silver tolex.
Whoa! What was the Supro Amp W/the sideways Star Trek Grill Cloth?! A 600R? Jimmy Page
Your Reverb page will not come up?
You really like the silver ones
Bidder 929 and 1192 both wanted the Hamer Korinas and 929 got both. I think the V went up because 1192 missed the explorer and wanted at least one of them...
some epiphones are great! some that i saw with gibson trusrod cover
its cuz they made in europe
and some are really good
Those old USA hamers are great guitars for those who want gibson custom shop level on the cheap, well without the 30% added on anyways (that's crazy, guitarists are being milked lol)
22:51 if you actually look, there are 8 strings.
In the late 70's a friend bought a mint 57 ES335 off the A&P Supermarket bulletin board for $75 👀
I like the red guitar
Hard pass on the auctions. I bought a nearly brand new Ibanez 5 string bass with active pick ups from OfferUp for $30. The deals are out there if you are patient enough to look.
The '52 Les Paul has a bent tuner so that should drop the price down a little.
I think that Epi SG Jr had a "J" serial number printed on the neck plate suggesting it's a MIJ model - I have a LP DC Jr bolt on neck with a "J97" serial number, nice little player, thin neck, I paid £100 some 9 years ago or so, my local shop had it hanging on the wall and I was interested in playing a P90 so figured £100 for a MIJ wasn't too bad considering I was in the camp of set/neck-thru or GTFO camp at the time =]
I bought an early-mid 60's Epiphone Coronet from Jeff's Music in Michigan back in the eighties for $125. It was is really good shape, except for the tailpiece, which was wonky, so I replaced it with a Schaller tailpiece/bridge like the one on the Gibson Spirit and Corvus. It was pretty cool. Then I bought a '68 Epiphone Wilshire 12 string from a guy for $65. Another nice instrument--just needed knobs and a setup. However, I needed cash in a bad way for car insurance, of all things, and sold them both to a guy for $250. While I technically broke even or perhaps made a tiny profit, in the long run I lost a ton, 'cause I would have sold them for thousands if I had held onto them. Oh well, so much for being young, poor and dumb!
all the strings on the 8-string bass are there
Hey man I want that 4x5 view camera....
man i want a firebird. probebly the coolest looking guitar ever made IMO. but they are so expensive. the most ive spent on an instrument is like 6000kr(swedish crowns) or roughly 600 dollars. its a bit of a leap up to 4 grand :/
How do you hear about auctions like this?
4:19, don't say that. It clearly says "Stratocaster style". Very common way of advertising.
Those amps looked pretty great
Thankfully , because even rich collectors don't want amps just to look at ?
@@shaunw9270 tell me about it. “Nobody lines the walls of the house with amps. This is crazy Tom. Seriously, you need help”. If I had a dollar for every time my wife told me that, I’d have more money for more amps!
@@thomaskafafian2871 What I meant was the prices of good vintage amps have been kept sensible because a hoard of amps take up space ,so it's better to be cautious and buy working ones, whereas we all know of vintage guitar collectors often buy unusable stuff just because it's rare .
@@shaunw9270 I love fixing them, but you are right sir. They take up a ton of space!
@@shaunw9270 those Princetons were probably a good deal if you needed a Princeton. I agree with what you’re saying. People are using more software today recording then swapping out amps and stuff like that.
Hey preview a buterscotch blond G&L telecaster Aslt classic I have one with a belly cut like a strat it's now my number one guitar....
So, why are Jazz masters so high when a 1964 Mustang is so low. Is it just an image and/or demand thing.
What auction site is this?
I own one of those Epiphone SG Jr's. It was £65 or £70, and is the guitar i use to practice maintenance on. xD
Those coronet moved to Japan for production in 1971. So only a 220 were American. . But I may be wrong. Look it up
I couldnt imagine anything other than the new inspired by gibson epiphones going for decent money. I know the specials are pretty hot right now (I got one) but otherwise? Pick up a head stock repaired studio for that kind of money.
Is it my imagination or did people get really nice amps for relatively short money. Even if you gotta take em em to a tech to get em going properly - old Gibson's, tweeds, and a Supro - guess I'd have to see descriptions. "Speakers blown, transformer fried, circuit board missing, useful as bedside table." Lol.
USA Hamers rock.
