Glad he let Kirk talk freely without cutting him off. Kirk seems like such a good dude.
Yes he is a good and nice man, but he’s not the best blues man out of town. 😅
He's such a good guy that he made his wife go and grab all the guitars she could during an evacuation.
I've sold him a lot of gear over the years. He's a very nice guy.
it’s because he is a filipino
Im thinking Kirk had a stroke or the beginning of Parkinsons :(
It’s in good hands, and it’s being play in front of thousands of people every night. Like it should. Better than some museum collecting dust.
Actually if it was in a museum, it would probably be behind glass, can't collect dust in there.
Cauee NcLv ... hear hear... guitars, even one as precious as this, are built to be played .. Both Gary and Peter would want that I’m sure.
@@Synismyhero but it's always played and cleaned before each use anyway
He still can't play Oh Well correctly! "Vintage" makes a really good copy of the guitar for around $400.
Yes, played by a Clown.....!!
Kirk literally on the brink of tears at 4:26 when they bring the Les Paul out. Say what you want about Kirk but you can't deny his passion for this shit.
And shit is a perfect description of Kirk's playing irrespective of his passion! :-)
@@seanandben stfu he has been playing a lot better
He was holding in the tears
Kirk is a fucking legend, and you can tell how much he just loves playing guitar, which is really what its all about.
Who interviewed Kirk with Gary Moore's 59 les paul and didnt find him an amp? You're fired
Agree. The Beast and the Skinner Burst are like my 3 favorite Les Pauls of all time tone wise... Love Peters 3 humbucker Les Pauls too.
That's Greenie, put some respect on that name sir.
Yea....!!
Kirk dosent deserve that guitar
@@andymccallum8090 Kirk is pretty good. I'm not that big of a fan but to say he has no talent is a pretty egotistical and outrageous implication
He's such a down to earth genuine guy who just loves music so sincerely and you can really tell that in his interviews. He's not your typical egotistical rocker
Am I one of the few who is surprised by Kirk's honest and friendly attitude ? - He seems like a real nice guy :)
Saw this guitar twice in 1970 in the hands of the master Peter Green. The sound and emotion he got out of it was extraordinary. Small gigs too with great acoustics. Those were the days my friends.
Watch Somekind of Monster, the 2004 Metallica docu, and see with your own eyes how Kirk is the glue that kept Metallica together. He's the real thing.
As a musician or as a person? People like Kirk as a person, he's just not respected as a musician.
@@erpaloinen not respected by who? internet experts? he's a better player than i'll ever be after nearly 30 years playing, a better player than 99% of all guitar players. Maybe not satriani, vai or friedman but that's a ridiculous high bar
internet experts. not where i form my opinions. the guy is a great player - there is no argument really
Derek Scanlan to be fair, it's tough to spot internet experts from people who actually know what they're talking about. Sure, he gets bombarded by internet experts too, and that's not cool.
@@erpaloinen Sure thing - as a person Kirk is a nice guy, but as a guitar player he total fuck up...
@@MrSiriosus says anonymous
All the metallica bashing aside, Kirk seems very sincerely passionate about gear and is very good at explaining his feelings about it. I think this Gibson is in good hands and is still played til this day instead of being locked behind glass which im not really a fan of.
Michael H who the hell bashes Metallica??
melissa n I’m calling bullshit...
melissa n because they’re psychotic and attention seeking?
melissa n if you say so lady.. if there was any proof of this crap you would have gone to the police already and he would have been charged.. now please stop commenting your bull crap
melissa n also lay off the crack, it’s bad for you
Despite the fact he’s played in one of the biggest bands in the world for almost 40 years Kirk still seems a pretty humble guy. He gets a lot of flack from trolls but he has always been one of my favourite guitarists and he always seems so willing to chat and just open up about his rig and his clear obsession with the guitar and all things related to it.
I wish we could get a video of Kirk showing off and talking about all of his guitars. He has so many that I love and have always wanted.
Could never understand the hate he gets, i have always liked him and will continue to do so.
I know,He works his ass off to bring his craft,,,people are jealous.
You should go to a head doctor, you need serious mental help.
I blame Tom green for my weirdness its sarcasm
I blame Tom green for my weirdness never mind that “girl” is a nickel back fan and an attention seeker what do u expect lol
melissa n oh I’m a scum for saying present facts or proofs first before accusing someone boohooo sweetheart
Being a huge fan of Greeny and Gary Moore...its cool to see this famous guitar..glad to see its being played , not in a museum in Tokyo somewhere.
yeah Green day rocks man!!!!
@@kasperandersen2571 Not sure if you're trolling or not, but i'm pretty sure he meant Peter Green.
@@ethan5817 i thought he said Green day. my bad
EXACTLY!!
Word.
Kirk Hammett is lucky to part of rock group who appreciates his skills and talent. He is an awesome guitar player. I wish I could be as lucky and talented as him. Kirk is my favourite guitarist. Admire this guy!
Kirk’s boot joke…made my day
oh, don't get old kirk. love you man
The guy is showing us this awesome guitar, talking about tone, amps, pedals, so many cool things, and yet you see in the comments so many douchebags always hating on something stupid...
That may be because he talks a lot of rubbish for an average guitarist who got very lucky!
but did kirk mention wah?
@@cerisejones8061 I think he was too concerned about smudging his nail varnish, makeup, eyeliner, lipstick, or eye shadow to make proper vowel sounds! I assume you're from Wales, so cael diwrnod braf. xx :-)
The guys talking shit about Kirk would never be good enough to play in Metallica or be able to own iconic guitars such as the Greenie Moore LP. Envious little douchelings.
@@ericsmodsandgear8098 Master of muppets? :-)
The most awesome part of this whole interview is when they start to discuss Gary Moore's guitar that Kirk bought and how the use of it and wear was all created by Gary playing the guitar. I love the way this was brought up...AMAZING...!!! Gary was truly a one of a king player...!
Kirk is such a nice guy. It was nice of him to share this guitar with everyone...
What a nice guy! No idea why he gets hatred at all. Look at his work over the years - exceptional. Knows his stuff and very gracious
We don't hate anyone, at least I don't. I respect Kirk. The issue is that guitar and it's history (which I know). It was Peter Greene's guitar and he gave it to Gary Moore and it was Gary's main guitar. It's almost like as if Yngwie plays his neo classical ripping guitar leads on say Chet Atkins or Johnny Cash's guitar. It just doesn't seem right.
@@ChicagoBeaver what a load of crap. its a guitar a tool to create music. thats theonly reason it exists. not to play just rock or blues or metal.
@@ChicagoBeaver it's a Les Paul, it's made for blues, rock and metal.
And it's being played in front of thousands as it should be, not sitting in the dark in some case.
Great interview. It is so good to see that it belongs to a guy that truly loves and appreciates it. The fact that he actually still plays it and that it is not sitting in some museum or collector's vault is awesome. Seems to be a really nice guy, to boot.
Totally lovely, totally genuine and totally not the big rock star. Great interviewer too, no ego, allowing Kirk to talk freely, letting him gather his thoughts. Just a great watch.
Ok, I have been a Metallica fan for years until the "Load" etc era. Kirk has written some iconic solos, however everyone would agree that he does not have the best vibrato in the world....So, I was always snobby thinking Kirk will not do justice to the guitar....Then, I saw him playing this guitar live and I actually had the chance to see it doing what is supposed to in POURING rain!!! And now this interview....I have to admit, the way he talks about it and cherishes it...I can say the guitar is in safe hands, with a player that will actually play the damn thing rather than collect it. Well deserved Kirk.
He doesn't care about what anybody thinks about him as he's rolling in the dough and living the life.
(Kirk messes up a bit of the Wherever I May Roam solo)
Fans: How does he sleep at night?!
On top of a pile of money, with many beautiful ladies.
i am a baker and iam always rolling in dough.
His work on the black album, load and reload were IMPECCABLE.
Rama Tolentino black album, yes. And puppets.
I concur 👌
The solos on and justice were really cool to, the us of modes and fast lines as usual, all done with hardly any distortion or effects. He is in Metallica for God sake, they were not gunna put up with an idiot, and i think his solos were the result of honest hard work and dedication.
I hate to say this I really do put although Kirk is very talented you got to thank his solos on those albums to Bob rock.
He literally would make kirk play the solos over and over until they were flawless
@@bluecomet1109 very true for example the unforgiven 1 solo
Big props to the interviewer, he’s really doing his job very well👍
Holy shit - what an interview. Kirk is breaking down what it felt like to play Greeny for the first time. Seems like he appreciated it and still does.
Awesome Interview. Thanks Kirk for sharing your guitar with us. You are a worthy caretaker for this Rock & Roll icon.
If I was Kirk Hammett , I’d stick to the opinion of millions of people who have bought my records and my tickets for 30 years , over the hateful opinion of a bunch of losers in a UA-cam interview .
Frank Peltier you know the song he was playing at the start is one of the greatest rock songs written
Frank Peltier I'd like to see you play in front of millions without messing up... You clearly have a band as big as Metallica you are better than Kirk so why don't I know your name... Oh that's right you suck... FACT
Frank Peltier Why don't you record yourself playing a LP with no amp and post a YT video of the result? I bet it would blow our minds...
Frank Peltier Angus from Acdc and that fat bakd dude from Slayer play the same riffs during their entire career. No one gives a shit. But Kirk gets hate undeserving of his talent. Total bs.
Daniel Martínez Giraldo buying records, selling tickets. Britney Spears and Justin Bieber sold more so, by your measure they are better than Hammett lol
His hands are mesmerising. I genuinely love this man and all his passions.
Im glad the guitar is in the hands of someone thats actually PLAYING it and not in some collector's house. I dont like his playing at all, but he had a great career that most of us cant even dream of having. Respect for the guy.
Who the hell dosent like Kirk's playing
@@justingod5824 people who enjoy Peter Green aren't likely to be in the same group that likes Kirk hammet. Fuck off.
Very nice interview. It’s great how much love and passion Kirk has. Would be awesome to hear him and James play through more classic equipment.
Alles Gitarre yes!
I've never been a fan of Metallica, it's just not my cup of tea but I love Kirk's or James' interviews sooooo much, they are really nice guys to listen to
I'm not a Kirk fan but it's clear he loves that guitar and is using it. I'm glad he has it
What a cool guy to talk too , I didn't want that interview to end 👍
Great interview ! Thanks ! I hope that Kirk and family didn't lost their home.
Rest assured this guitar is in good hands. Kirk knows its history. He has techs that will keep it dialed in.
He is like most professionals when he’s able to talk to someone who is on the same understanding of his profession, it is nice to have a full discussion about the trade, to be understood and appreciated.
I love hearing artists talking about gear, i think its so awesome that he plays greeny live. Guitars are meant to be played so im glad he uses that guitar in particular.
Kirk is truly humble and that's rare thing sometimes with some Rock 🌟' z!!
And what a great creative lick master!! 😁😀😆😊
Excellent interview.. Kirk really knows his shit when it comes to guitars and you can how much they mean to him. Nice guy!
I’m glad he has that guitar now, Kirk is a good guitar player and a legend! He’s a cool guy too! A real musician doesn’t complain about other musicians, he appreciates what other musicians come up with
Love Kirk and his iconic sound. No one sounds like him. I always picked out his sound when someone, in particular, was trying trick me.
Kirk sits down for everyone who wants to interview him, especially out of his gigantic schedule. A very humble person he is and nothing's better than to see him pull out Greeny and play it just like Gary & Peter did in front of millions...Thanks for the interview. Kirk & Jonathan!...
Not exactly the way P.G. did in 1970!
Kirk is an amazing complement to Metallica's sound. It wouldn't be the same without his wah and minor licks. Solos in "One" are still as haunting as they were the first time I heard them.
Kirk Hammett your such a modest man, love your playing. Gary will be proud it went to a master 🙏🏻
Kirk gives a good interview, I wish it was longer.
Kirk is a wonderful person and a great metal legend, God bless him.
Kirk is a guitar God. It's great he has passion for the old girls..seems like a nice person..
I smell lots of Mom Basements in the negative comments.
Technically, if you are smelling Mom Basements off the comments section, it’s coming from the device you are viewing UA-cam on.....must be from where it spends most of its time :)
HAHAHA YEA, NO SHIT
lol
@Nickhead87 Tell Mom I said Hi!
I’m stealing that line
Legend. What a rad guy.
Literally just got evacuated from his property and gave a great interview.👍
Class act🤟🤟🤟
No one has the right to ever even remotely put Kirk's abilities at question he pours his heart out and he does happen to be the guy who is the best metal in the world!!! What position do.you currently hold , pal ?!!!!
Fuck yeah Kirk rules!! Happy mother's day ladies!!!?😂
well said
Metallica has sold more than 125 million albums worldwide
These losers can sit on 125 million poison needles. They have no soul, no honor, no respect for iconic great artists.
You are 100% right!! Haters can hate but Kirk is a legend!
@@starbattles1 by that argument beiber is a great musician and nobody can question him...
@@fondfarewell2 Pretty sure he's a singer. He made his millions with his voice not an instrument. Actually made it with his looks and good marketing.
Awesome interview---such a cool dude and a true guitar aficionado.
IM SO GLAD HE STILL HAS THE KILL EM ALL FLYING V!
I get that not everybody is a Metallica fan but these guys are down to earth, passionate and sort of saving guitar heritage. I can really recommend watching the Trujillo doc on Jaco Pastorius. Styles and tastes differ but Hammett & Trujillo are cool dudes.
There's thousands of technical guitar players. But there's only one Kirk Hammet! You might play better than Kirk but if you're still in your basement and nobody's ever heard of you, you'll never compare to Kirk, the lead guitarist for the greatest, longest going heavy metal band on the planet! Good upload!
plejaren giants priest would disagree with you. I would too! 😄
how do you know you someone will never compare? kirk is great but nothing amazing... hes has a few great solos. but he is pretty shit compared to Gary Moore,Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Srv, etc. his technique is not great, his vibrato sounds like wasp and his fast non melodic stuff sounds like a turkey going blblblblblbbaahahha. and just because someone is not a famous guitarist does not mean they cant have some valid criticism against him. you say there are thousands of technical guitarists.. and that's true but Kirk ain't one of them and he isn't a soulful one like BB king or Eric Clapton.
Facts
@@andymccallum8090 Steve Vai, man, I find him annoying and douchey af, Gary Moore is a different style, personally I don't find his music exciting, a bit cheesy also. Anyways, I have met and/or listened to many guitar players over the years that blew my mind in terms of technique and mimmicking, but not many make me play air guitar like Kirk. See how opinions differ? It is not only technique, it's about music, and that is personally subjective but in a way objective, considering Hammett is way more popular than half of the players you mentioned combined. Kirk, SRV, Satriani OTOH, those guys make me want pick up a guitar. Still being inspired by great players doesn't change the fact that I suck as a guitarist, but that is a different matter lol
@@mjeffbr I dont like steve vai's music, gary moore I like alot and hes just on another level such a soulful player. I love Metallica. Great songwriters. But the topic of discussion here is guitar players. Obviously the music is more important. But let's be real here. Even Kirk would admit that hes nowhere near their level. Hes just meh. In the context of great guitar players of all time.
Kirk loves guitars, it's in good hands!
It's incredible... Kirk holds the guitar like it was his own son, this is marvelous!
It's so wonderful that Kirk isn't obsessive over keeping the guitar 100% original. He replaces what he has to replace. And that's what the guitar is for. It's meant to be played and loved. When it comes down to it, it's a guitar for crying out loud. It's not that big of a deal to swap out parts
Coming here after Peter Green's passing. Glad that Greeny is still getting played by someone who clearly loves playing guitar. Not particularly a Metallica fan but Kirk seems like a cool dude.
My thoughts exactly
Kirk seems such a nice person, a kind soul. Always has. His playing aint top,,,but,,,,whatever. I am not bothered by nice poeple succeding in life. godspeed Kirk
That intro! That guitar! Music in my ears.
As an owner of a rare guitar I can understand his passion for his instruments. I have owned 25 or more guitars, but my SG 28 is my keeper. It is old and has amazing tone! I play it every chance I get! It may not be a 59 LP but it has the same importance!
Great interview. Big fan of kirk and also Jonathan. Fair play!
I think that kirk is losing wight...so much weight...please eat well and let that stupid vegetarian diet.
Even when Greeny's not plugged in, amazing.
the resonance unplugged is crazy
totally agree. I was stunned at the tone
You're right. Rings like a bell. I remember a great GM vid called Fire Alarm Bues and Gary had a 'Paul (not Greeny) and mentioned looking for that 'ring' unplugged. In '76 i boiught a '75 SB HT Strat and didn't plug it in unti i got home. I lnew it was a good one. I miss it all the time.
Does greeny is that les paul?
Zidders Roofurry The really old Gibsons all sing like that, when played unplugged - that’s why everyone wants them lol. It’s just the quality of the wood. The masterbuilders who made these guitars spent considerable amounts of time looking for the absolute perfect piece of timber to make a guitar with. Whereas now, in the factories, they just use anything.
I’ve got a 79 and that has so much natural tone, unplugged, that I often don’t even bother plugging it in most of the time.
Good interview. Kirk is a genuine bloke .
Kirk is such a cool dude. I wish I had the opportunity to meet him.
He's always be a nervous guy when getting interviews, oh c'mon guys he's humble
You should make your own album Kirk! I'm pretty sure it will Rock!!
kirk is in pretty good and relaxex shape these days. gotta like him, nice and humble still
This guy is a good interviewer.Knowledgeable
Kirk is an awesome guy with some freakin impressive history and I would love to shake hands with him one day
Just got tickets to see Metallica ( and Ghost) at the Ethihad stadium next June, love ya Kirk. 🤘
Kirk is like a little kid talking about his favorite toy. Love this guy and listening to him. Greeny found a good home with Kirk.
Kirk has a beautiful soul; the universe adores him.
Kirk is such an icon!
I don't get it if people hate Kirk or MetallicA so much .why in the bloody hell .run to the store or buy their albums ASAP .
Kirk is in my book the best guitar player and cool dude
Yeah, and why are they here?
I am not in a Beyondsay video bashing her because I hate her. I don't listen to shit I hate.
Maybe we should all go to a Justin Beeber video and tell every one in there how much he sucks.
But then again, what's the point. Were not losers like these asshats.
@Helle Fyre The first album is good, but not the best in anyway, only a handful of people, music critics and fans included, think they have made anything better than MOP.
because he is rich , that´s why.
If I could get any one guitar in the world it would have to be this legendary LP. Stuff of legends
Atleast he actually plays it in records and is bringing it on tour with him, I love it when Legendary guitars were used by musicians.
he talks about his guitars as they were family members, I guess in a musicians live they are. Such a down to earth guy and one of my guitar idols since early 90‘s 🖤
17:48 It's "Stargazer", in case anyone's wondering.
Great interview - thanks for doing this
I know it's a minor detail in the grand scheme of the entire guitar but I always find it amazing the story about the 50s and 60s volume and tone knobs. A guitar tech at some point threw odd knobs on as it was all that he had lying around. I bet he never knew how iconic it would be.
This was a surprisingly good interview. Thank you for putting it together.
Awesome interview! Great to see how passionate he is about his guitars and gear.
It’s truly great to see he’s such a fanboy, EVEN now after all of HIS success. Love ya Kirk!
You can really see his emotions describing greeny looks like he could cry ... Kirk is a legend
Very underrated guitar player.
Kirk one of the greats
Greeny is in good hands. It appears to be getting all the love and respect it deserves and is still making music. Screw putting it in a museum!
I recently saw him playing Greeny at Barcelona, during Fade To Black. It REALLY does sound magic, specially on a song like that.
Kirk is such a sweetheart. Greeny found a worthy owner.

I pretty much agree with everything that he is saying in this video. Kirk is very influential to me.
How the hell can you not like this guy?!?! He’s not the most skilled guitarist ever but goddamn if he hasn’t written some of the most memorable riffs of all time.
Absolutely bad ass he still gigs it. Amazing instrument and amazing player
Guys Kirk always talked like this, I don't know why everybody thinks he's on something

Very nice interview by Johnathan
I have a black les Paul
So crunchy and the warm clean sound sounds amazing
People rag on him, but I think he is awesome. 60 odd years old and still loves playing the guitar and has not got jaded. That's not easy to do as wear and tear catches up with you and makes stuff start aching.
