@@SpazzyjonesGaming Did a vanilla playthrough on the PTB and after moder I unlocked both the toadstool and the fragrant bundle. Then I went out of my way to fish to actually try the anti-sting and to my own surprise I didn't hate them at all. It felt nice for many reasons, one less thing to worry about during big fights like camps, if you leave them alone they would distract growths and mosquitoes even helped me agaisn't a wolf raid!

I feel the earlier feasts are disappointing as they don't progress in extra health and stamina, just an extra tick of XP. The long duration is nice as well, but as for not bringing foods on adventures I'd still probably be bringing a good stamina food regardless.

The whole game is in the early access still so things might change. On top of that, the witch update was on public test branch for couple weeks so maybe that's why it says work in progress. It is public release now.
I love that this update finally gives me a reason to go fishing. I almost never did that because the payoff didn't seem worth it. Now I'm frequenting a few fishing spots to make the new meads, mainly the Trollfish. Even got a 5-Star Trollfish that ended up on my wall.
I really hope we get a larger inventory at some point, with all these potions and other random shit you want to carry At least make equipped gear not take up inventory slots, it's not even in your inventory, you are wearing it
The "chance at an extra" on farming and cooking from the skill seems to apply on prepared foods as well. I got it when preparing stuffed mushrooms, made 15 and got the 16th for free. I'd imagine this means you can get lucky and get an extra feast too.

The problem with the feasts is that they become available only after you finish the specific biome. For example, you can make the Firelands feast only after you kill Vader. This means that up until then you can only use feasts from previous biomes, and they give fewer stats. I think that feasts are meant to be used for general purpose, meaning, when you have to do something in the world, you pop one feast and you're good to go for 50 mins, but in the latest biome you should use regular food, since it gives more stats
There is one important feature of the berserkir potion: the 80% stamina use reduction is added to that coming from the skill levels. This means at high skill level the berserkir potion reduces stamina use to zero. Finally the money has a purpose (other than roleplaying Smaug on piles of gold :D). Feasts are not that costly, you can feed yourself 10 times. They are incredibly material efficient.
It looks amazing and adds usage for gold and various components that were stashed on tons or not worth gathering at home point. I hope we will get more of those mid game content updates.

The love potion can just be a silly, fun item in the game with no real overarching benefits. It's fine to have those in games, we don't need everything to do something. Sometimes trolling friends is funny.
My first thought was to tell a friend it tames the troll if they stay close enough for long enough....it may take more then one potion to work fully too 😂😅
Berzerk mead with Ask's Endurance set bonus makes it so you spend 0 stamina on attacks, it's crazy strong. I still think Ratatosk is just more universally useful to keep popped at all times when moving from place to place, and very cheap to make. I don't think it'll get me to use heavy armor though, rather just compound the speed
I like how long time ago when valheim was starting you were able to get fish without killing Eikthyr, but now it looks like its locked to swamp progression.
I don't like that they pushed back when you can start eating cooked fish, unless they're going to let you cook it on spits ( using prep table to upgrade to Fish wraps )
Maybe I'm missing something with the feasts. I don't see how they'd replace food in your inventory, the zone equivalent feast to the food you carry is worse stat-wise. As suggested in another comment I only see it being somewhat useful for home tasks like building or farming, but even then what do you do when you get raided, equipped with lower stat food. Guess it's a matter of preference 🤷♀ I'll be keeping my easier to make adventure food and just use the feasts for aesthetics lol
I made a feast for my friends when they get on. The feast has: Swamp dweller’s delight, Hearty mountain logger’s stew, Onion soup, Lox pie, Bread and Tasty meads.
So anti sting which is best to have when entering the plains for the first time, is locked behind beating the biome, in which case you are already high gear enough that deathsqitos no longer matter. Also I kinda hate that different things to buy are locked behind fighting bosses in general. They just changed how raids are so now many are no longer locked behind beating bosses.
i guess the intent is they still want the challenge to be there for you to overcome for the first time and then after that you can use the potion to live free without stress in the biome after that

@@Leatherface98 Like all recipes in valheim, they only unlock after you obtained all the ingredients. So if you haven't made stinky fishing bait and caught groupers with them, you will not be able to see the anti-sting mead
Anti sting concotion seems rather useless if you need to kill yag to unlock it. By then, deathsquitos are just a nuisance. It should be unlocked by killing bonemass, so you can explore the plains with more safety

Not sure if i've missed something, but i've beaten the Queen (trophy mounted etc) and purchased the Hidden Hills herbs....but the Mistlands feast recipe hasn't popped up for me 🤔
So I waited until I got up to plains and did the math. Same applies to all biomes I believe. Plains food: 123hp/169stamina 8hp/tick 2*30mins + 1*25mins (Lox Pie, Blood Pudding, Bread) (1hp and 2 stamina foods) Mountains feast and 1:1 food: 145hp/144stamina 9hp/tick 2*30mins + 1 50mins (Lox Pie, Blood Pudding, Hearty Mountain feast) (also 1hp and 1 stamina food plus the feast) All 3 feasts up to plains: 115hp/115stamina 9hp/tick All 3 50mins Basically if you want more stamina and less hp going with the regular food is better. If you want more balanced stats, going with the latest feast you can acquire and 1 hp /1stamina food is best. Plus when the feast reaches around 25-30 mins, you are starting to digest and you can eat 1 more round of Blood Pudding and Lox pie for example before you digest ALL of your food. Third and last, eating 3 feasts at the same time makes for more of a casual player approach. You get good health ticks, 50 minutes duration so you won't have to bother eating for a while, no food taking up storage, no having to eat every once in a while, no making food almost every time you get back to base. Imo the second option is the best.

have you defeated Moder yet in your game? Defeating moder unlocks the material from the bog witch that will give you the anti-sting recipe. The feasts are also unlocked by beating bosses. So the last two are unlocked after beating the Queen and Fader
I actually think the feasts aren’t expensive at all. You get nearly 10 hours of food buff for what you put in. Like the picnic pie only requires two lox pies and 3 pieces of bread. That’s pretty cheap overall for what you get. I really like the mistlands feast when combined with high HP and stam ashlands food. Great well rounded stats (unless you’re a caster of course)
so looking at the stats the feasts are giving only good thing about them is their duration since the stat boosts are pretty underwhelming compared to normal carried food. But they sure semm nice for working in your base since you can use excess low tier food you wouldnt use anyway and plant it on a table so it does t even take space in chests and then grab some while moving around
Good question. The way I believe it works is that they are additive. so If you have -10% from your armor and +20% from the mead the result would be +20+-10 for +10% movement speed
I don't like how the feasts are so long. Because of the way the food works, you can eat a feast and take 2 foods out with you. When the foods are wearing off, you can eat 2 new ones, but the feast is half worn off so you're not where you need to be unless you bring 3 foods with you and waste half of the feast. It'd be nice if the stat bonuses didn't start to lower until you're like 20 minutes in. It's also VERY lame that the prep table is locked behind the iron age. Not only can you not skin a fish until then which pisses me off beyond belief, but it also makes things the meadows feast absolutely useless.
I have found an exploit with the cooking skill and I reported it to the devs but they haven't fixed it. I am thinking that I should make a tutorial about it to hopefully get it fixed.
I don't see the point in the Berzerkir potion - firstly I think anything that directly impacts combat is bad, but if you think it is so powerful that you set the duration at only 20 seconds, why also reduce the number of vials made by half?

bit annoying that fish cant be cut/cooked until after iron age, not to mention making every fish besides perch and pike near impossible to get until you get iron. makes fishing unviable until swamp.
With the 3 starter biome feasts being the same, swamp has 3 hp ticks compared to 2, is a bit of a waste. Locking some foods to after killing the biome boss is dumb, as the newer foods are much better.
@@SpazzyjonesGaming from the point of progression, when you reach Bog Witch, going through Swamps you prioritize the swamp drops to high hp and high stamina food so technically you can do 2 different feasts depending on the leftovers that you have from the previous bioms. You can even acquire ocean feast during swamp era by killing a serpent which unlocks the spices for this feast and this one gives 45/45. And if you progress to Mountain biome your main foods are skewers and onion soup and leftovers from the swamp can be used for feasts.

I don't like that they added even more workstations. There's already so many. And I don't like that they pushed cooked fish back to the iron age. Otherwise, it's fine.
am I the only one bothered with the fact that every mead has a superfluous "Mead base:" prefix and all of them are in different fonts? What's the purpose of that left list if it's so useless. Most of the mead's name is hidden and cannot be seen... ugh...
We are not impressed by the food buffs. 1) The total health/stamina gain is quite comparable to normal foods. 2) There are no special effects, meaning that older feasts will never get recreated, leading to the same problem feasts were intended to solve (reuse of older ingredients/foods) 3) The food buff duration may be longer, but halfway through, you will still find yourself resting. At which time normal foods can also be consumed. Hence, the buff duration is hardly a benefit In conclusion: Food is worse than ever. It looks pretty though, but utterly pointless.

Person A eats normal food Person B eats feast Both have the same rested buff The rested buff ends, and both person A and person B sit around the campfire to get rested. While they sit together, person A simply eats another round of normal food. He can't go anywhere for 20 seconds, same as person B. My question: In this case, is there a _practical_ difference between the buffs on person A and person B?
I was very disappointed in the feasts for me. Being a pure mage build, I can't use them because I need as much eitr as I can get to spam spells. And using the two top end ones is terrible for eitr. They're good for melee though, or archers.
I always felt triple eityr food was too weak due to the lack of stamina and HP/block and opted for 2 magic foods and a big HP or stamina food, and find the top tier feasts to be the ideal replacement 3rd food. It's a big enough eityr pool to summon 2 skeletons instantly, and stamina is effective eityr since you can sprint and climb while it regenerates.

Apparently this is a mistake on my part. They must have stealth changed this since leaving the PTB. it now unlocks after Moder! much better

I don't like how the feasts are so long. Because of the way the food works, you can eat a feast and take 2 foods out with you. When the foods are wearing off, you can eat 2 new ones, but the feast is half worn off so you're not where you need to be unless you bring 3 foods with you and waste half of the feast. It'd be nice if the stat bonuses didn't start to lower until you're like 20 minutes in.
It's also VERY lame that the prep table is locked behind the iron age. Not only can you not skin a fish until then which pisses me off beyond belief, but it also makes things the meadows feast absolutely useless.

I have found an exploit with the cooking skill and I reported it to the devs but they haven't fixed it. I am thinking that I should make a tutorial about it to hopefully get it fixed.
is it where you interact with a full oven and it gives you cooking skill experience? haha

I don't see the point in the Berzerkir potion - firstly I think anything that directly impacts combat is bad, but if you think it is so powerful that you set the duration at only 20 seconds, why also reduce the number of vials made by half?

@@SpazzyjonesGaming I just think that with the delicate balancing of weapons, health, stamina and forsaken powers, adding something else to the mix that directly affects combat is more likely to unbalance things.
@@Oak_Knight this is true. Someone made a point earlier in my comments that they are concerned about powercreep in the game which i think is fair. Its undoubtedly making the game easier having these meads at our disposal

bit annoying that fish cant be cut/cooked until after iron age, not to mention making every fish besides perch and pike near impossible to get until you get iron. makes fishing unviable until swamp.

Ancient people can fish even before the Iron Age it's just plain silly
With the 3 starter biome feasts being the same, swamp has 3 hp ticks compared to 2, is a bit of a waste.
Locking some foods to after killing the biome boss is dumb, as the newer foods are much better.

@@SpazzyjonesGaming from the point of progression, when you reach Bog Witch, going through Swamps you prioritize the swamp drops to high hp and high stamina food so technically you can do 2 different feasts depending on the leftovers that you have from the previous bioms. You can even acquire ocean feast during swamp era by killing a serpent which unlocks the spices for this feast and this one gives 45/45. And if you progress to Mountain biome your main foods are skewers and onion soup and leftovers from the swamp can be used for feasts.
wait, so you get the anti-sting potion after your done in the plains? just...lol. stupid. by that point skeeters aren't an issue anymore even if you go back to the plains.

I don't like that they added even more workstations. There's already so many. And I don't like that they pushed cooked fish back to the iron age. Otherwise, it's fine.

am I the only one bothered with the fact that every mead has a superfluous "Mead base:" prefix and all of them are in different fonts? What's the purpose of that left list if it's so useless. Most of the mead's name is hidden and cannot be seen... ugh...

We are not impressed by the food buffs.
1) The total health/stamina gain is quite comparable to normal foods.
2) There are no special effects, meaning that older feasts will never get recreated, leading to the same problem feasts were intended to solve (reuse of older ingredients/foods)
3) The food buff duration may be longer, but halfway through, you will still find yourself resting. At which time normal foods can also be consumed. Hence, the buff duration is hardly a benefit
In conclusion: Food is worse than ever.
It looks pretty though, but utterly pointless.

Person A eats normal food
Person B eats feast
Both have the same rested buff
The rested buff ends, and both person A and person B sit around the campfire to get rested. While they sit together, person A simply eats another round of normal food. He can't go anywhere for 20 seconds, same as person B.
My question: In this case, is there a _practical_ difference between the buffs on person A and person B?

I was very disappointed in the feasts for me. Being a pure mage build, I can't use them because I need as much eitr as I can get to spam spells. And using the two top end ones is terrible for eitr. They're good for melee though, or archers.

I always felt triple eityr food was too weak due to the lack of stamina and HP/block and opted for 2 magic foods and a big HP or stamina food, and find the top tier feasts to be the ideal replacement 3rd food. It's a big enough eityr pool to summon 2 skeletons instantly, and stamina is effective eityr since you can sprint and climb while it regenerates.
Man they took it off Game Pass and now I can't play it😢

Like... 10 hp 20 sta on berry... it was great, boar meat was 30/40. Queen jam was 30/40, now it's like 8/40, and it's just never going to be crafted just because there are better options. Cuz of nerfs food is mediocre, i never wanted more options, i need better options :0

@SpazzyjonesGaming top feast only gives you 75/75 which is not better than just eating 3x endgame food. One stamina, two HP
