For a folk musician - 3 strings is more than enough.. :D Seriously - this is really something, and it makes me cry (both sad and happy/proud tears). I come from the family with a huge folklore music tradition in Moravia - generations of folk song collectors, singers, musicologists from the east-part region of Czech rep., very close from Slovakia / Hungary, but now I live already for a couple years in western Europe, and deep inside myself, I am struggeling a lot because I am mostly surrounded by people who have nothing like we can see on this video - a true traditions in their blood. Maybe they are "rich and socialy well secured", but they are SOOOOOOO empty... Anyway, this is not a music.. This is a pure celebration of human-being.

Hard to explain but spiritually I feel at home. I also feel like I can see stories and destinies, of people and communities, I can see the sorrow, and I can see the joy. Music like a living string, or string of life. The classic version is also very beautiful :). p.s. central and eastern Europe do have some unique precious things to add to the world for sure.

I happen to like both Hungarian and Romanian folk music--and even saw Muzsikás and Márta Sebestyén perform in Boston. A couple of months ago, I was in Transylvania, in the town with the highest elevation in Romania. As I walked up a winding road into the Carpathians, I saw all these places with hunting motifs, not to mention signs in Romanian warning about bears. I couldn't help thinking of Bartok's mythical masterpiece, "The Enchanted Stags."
the town with the highest elevation in Romania is Predeal and is not in Transylvania (was not ever), there was the border between Transylvania and Wallachia!
@@MrQ454 Thanks for the correction. I was thinking of the larger historical region, with a southern border somewhere between Brasov and Sinaia. I did spend some time in Predeal and, as an outsider in the company of Romanians, I was struck there by what seemed signs of cultural overlaps--including a procession of people in traditional costumes and flags from Hungary, Serbia and Ukraine. I know there's also a difference between the power that rules a given territory and the mix of inhabitants--and that Romanian presence here predates any other part of the mix that's identifiably present today.
@@lovettboston Sinaia also is not in Transylvania. Brașov was the Southern city of Transylvania, in fact Bran Citadel was at first customs point for the city of Brasov!
