I highly doubt it would be problematic if no arteries/nerves would be severed ; all you need for a fracture to heal is proper alignment ; and immobilization

"Many consider to be the most severe injury in the sports history" This is definitely a lesser known injury, since it was a less prolific fighter in a less prolific promotion. Lucky for Santos, it was a frontal sinus fracture and didn't actually cave his skull in. He broke the bones in front of his sinuses, rather than breaking a skull plate, so harder to say how much worse it was than a tib/fib fracture (since I'm not a doctor).

If I was an MMA fighter, I’d literally never throw a leg kick again. And I’d *DAMN SURE* never do it if I was the one who that happened to. And didn’t Silva come back in like 8 months??? Dear God, the man’s a maniac
This injury ruined his career. He was already on a downturn from clowning too much with weidman and having a freak knockout loss. The rematch with the leg wrap....god. He was also getting older. I wish Silva would of had a better finish to his career.
what part of his tibia is connected via the internet to my mandible that forces my jaw to drop in terror and disgust every time I watch this, almost a decade later?
He was training only a few days before the fight and he has Muay Thai training and part of Muay Thai is shin hardening due to repetitive creation and healing of micro fractures so what probably happened was there wasn’t enough time for Silva’s micro fractures in his leg to heal and the kick was kinda the final straw
This is super speculative. It's not like every training session in muay thai has shin hardening. It's just something people who train muay thai periodical do. And I think it's quite a stretch to assume he did this very close to the actual fight. And you also do not need a microfracture too explain a fracture like this happening in these circumstances. It's very good to point out "Kick Checks". Weidman checked *every kick* Silva was throwing. If you watch the fight again it even looks like an amateur mistake. I'm not Anderson but, as a fighter, I think he was setting up a high kick and that's why he kept kicking with force. So he could eventually kick high and Weidman would try to low-check and be hit by a head kick. Count the kicks that Weidman Checked. I was surprised his leg didn't break earlier.
@@Keithustus This has happened before in other fights. I remember joking "That check is 6months of phisiotherapy". Of course I didn't expect Silva's leg to break in half but the injury was obvious (To me and my friends) so I think it's not unreasonable to think that pro fighters were aware of the possibility.
One thing that wasn't mentioned here, and I'm not very sure if it's even relevant... is the fact that, shortly after this occurred, Anderson's coach came out and said in interviews that they believe his leg may have already been weakened from a prior injury to the same area of his leg. Everyone always forgets about Corey Hill, who had this injury first. Then there is also Evangelista 'Cyborg' Santos who had his skull caved in. Wouldn't rank Silva's as the worst, just more infamous.

As a PTA I’ve worked with a lot of ORIF’s and llizarov fixators and the like and all I can say is I’m glad Silva didn’t develop any osteomyelitis or any other severe infection. I’ve seen more than a few failed attempted fixations result in a later amputation.
Doctor: “Anderson Silva’s leg injury is one of the worst from the sport”
Me: “looks back and remembers Cyborg Santos literally having his skull crushed in from a flying knee”
Absolutely love this format, subscribed!
Fast forward and now the same has happened to weidman
Thumbs up!!! Loved the content and the format of your videos!
Felt the metal plate in my leg shaking whilst watching this
How'd you get that?
James DuPuis destroyed my fibula playing soccer
@@LeoDominguezOrtega is the fibula the front or rear one? Sorry
Everyone always forgets about Corey Hill, who had this injury first.
Then there is also Evangelista 'Cyborg' Santos who had his skull caved in.
Wouldn't rank Silva's as the worst, just more infamous.
I've trained my shins.
The bone changes shape. There are lumps that form. and it feels thicker. I don't know if it is harder, but there is thickness added for sure.
How do you train your shins I’m interested

Me personally?
From sparring and drills with shin contact.
Probably better to ask a Muay Thai expert if you want specific techniques.
Very informative. I went through a similar injury but with the compound fracture. In surgery I ended up getting a nail as well and so far so good, honestly just feels sore after a long session of exercise, especially the high impact types like running or basketball.
Yeah This is why tony kicks steel poles, so this won’t happen to him
I'm in high school and I take a a class called sports med and we always review these sports injuries and I find them really cool u just gained a sub this helps me a lot for my class work
I'm a milkoholic so I'm fine

Well another one of those brakes just happen tonight..What’s crazy is that night you’re speaking about happened to Anderson’s competitor Chris just a little bit ago how bazaar
I still remember this like it was just yesterday. The very first time I actually watched UFC, and this happened. Very painful to watch. Can't believe this was almost 10 years ago now.
