  • Considered to be the worst NBA injury of all time by many people, Shaun Livingston suffered a terrible knee dislocation in his early career. They were concerned he might have his leg amputated, it was apparently so bad.
    I'm going to give you a simple look at why knee dislocations are so dangerous and scary for sports medicine doctors and players to have to encounter.
    Don't forget to check out the rest of my videos looking at sports injuries!

    Shaun Livingston:
    -Career nearly ended because of the injury
    -Got tossed around lots of teams when he cameback
    -Landed in the Warriors, became a crucial member of the team
    -Now a 3 time champion
    That’s what you call the greatest sports bounce-back in the history of sports. Mad Respect for the man.

    I suffered a similar injury while in the army. I tore my ACL, PCL and LCL as well as a fracture of the head of my distal femur when my L knee dislocated. Took me over a year and a half to come back from it after multiple surgeries and intense physical therapy.
    Funny thing is, I’m a die hard Clippers fan and saw Shaun Livingston’s injury on live tv. Then years later, mine happened.

    So you see a Shaun Livingston type injury where you have so little time to correct it without amputating. You see the Kevin Ware, Gordon Hayward, and Paul George injuries which sort of seemed like the leg just snapped. They being just so horrific and terrible to watch because of the proximity of the fans but along with the Shaun Livingston injury just being so gruesome. The Joe Theismann and Alex Smith injury as well which was and can be potentially career ending for Alex Smith. How do the 3 different injuries compare? I think that would make it a pretty cool video if you could somehow explain how Shaun Livingston came back after his leg could have been amputated to Alex Smith's injury being potentially career ending and somehow a wraparound to the Ware, Hayward, George injury. They are some of the worst I have seen and I think a lot of people would love to learn more about them! Thanks again for an awesome video!

    • @69ER509
      @69ER509 5 років тому +18

      Joint injuries are more dangerous than bone factures. Soft tissue is much harder to heal properly. In fact some of the soft tissue in the knee doesn't even heal so it has to be trimmed off if injured because it doesn't receive blood flow by design... Bone fractures do look terrible but our body is a bad ass at healing bone fractures for the most part.
      You're talking from a visual stand point he is talking from a medical stand point.

    Tell the story of how Shaun Livingston or whatever player the vid is on came back from the injury and give more details. It would make it more entertaining and Maybe stretch it over 10 min for more ad revenue

      Yea, sometimes that is too hard to speculate on though :/. In general you have an idea of the recovery and what the rehab was but I feel like I'd be speculating too much at times. Good thought though. This whole concept is still pretty green so will definitely evolve overtime. I get more feedback saying to keep them around 5-7 minutes than I do saying to make it longer :/

    Hey man, personal question for you. I sprained my ankle about a year and a half ago, nothing serious, was on crutches for about 2 weeks, but I sprained it again about a month after. I was told to be on crutches for a month, but as it was coming up on rugby season, I ditched them after two weeks to start training. Since then, my ankle has slightly limited movement and still hurts occasionally when I put strain on it. Any tips on what to do so that I can have my full range of motion back?

    • @usmell448
      @usmell448 5 років тому +8

      Logan MacMaster to be honest you shouldn’t have ditched the crutches. I understand as I’m an athlete as well, but if you don’t let yourself heal, it can have permanent effects. It doesn’t sound too bad, and I’m not a doctor, but I would recommend visiting one

    • @usmell448
      @usmell448 5 років тому +3

      Also if possible, make small movements every now and then until it hurts. Then, keep going until it doesn’t hurt to move and full motion maybe can return.

      I’ve got weak ankles too, after twisting it badly once it’s fallen underneath my weight 3 times. One time my foot was basically perpendicular to my leg. I play with an ankle support at all times because I don’t trust it, but patience and time really is the best way of getting yourself back out there.

    Great video as always honestly your really underrated my dad back in 2012 was riding a atv in Sahara and tried to do a flip off of a dune he did one and tried to show off to his friends by trying to land two and he crashed he had to be lifted by helicopter and he said the pain was so bad he wanted to die I was six or seven he survived the doctors said he would never walk again but he didn’t give up he went from not being able to walk to crutches to one crutch to a walker to one crutch and now he can walk without anything granted he does look like he hobbled when he walks but there’s no pain this video just reminded me of this experience in my life sorry for the super long comment bye

I came down from a block while playing and just landed incorrectly, one leg crossed behind the other as my body weight came down, and my whole femur snapped. came down to the ground and opened my eyes, and although the upper part of my leg was completely straight, my femur had broken so terribly that my straight leg actually ended up with my foot crossed over my body to my waist. crazy stuff, but thankfully I’m walking already. thanks for the in-depth explanation, learned a lot about what could have went so much worse
