Unbanning the Pauper Titans | Infect vs Storm

- Pauper is a format where you get to play all the most broken spells, but with some pretty average creatures. But some spells are too strong, even for Pauper. What if we played them?

In my playing time i really don't like Groundswell and Scent of Ivy. Instead I like Embiggen and Might of Old Krosa. For me at least they are more consistant.
would love to see one of yall play second breakfast modern deck when yall do another no banned list
You guys have some of the best editing for paper magic games I've seen on youtube, these matches are just effortlessly followable
Absolute facts! Cardmarket was the first ever mtg UA-cam channel I watched, and then when I started watching others I got so lost because they didn't have the easily readable visuals like these guys do, it's incredible
never thought about it but yeah they keep the pacing up but keep it still understandable for a casual.
i appreciate that this format isn't so over edited like game knights
That's the reason why is my favourite MtG channel
In a recent video they talked about how it was one of their main goals to make online magic more easily to follow. they realy are doing a great job on improving on it too.
Oh my God, Thoralf pondering for three lands, shuffling, drawing a land, preordain bottoming two lands, then draw TWO MORE LANDS ALL IN A ROW is insane??? What are even the odds of that
Toffel is using up all his bad luck before the next championship, it's calculated
The odds of Thoralf seing and drawing those 10 lands in a row are ~0.024% or about 1 in 4000
Edit: WRONG !! The correct odds are 1 in 60 000 as pointed out by @wiener_process and @robinthesongbird1778
Edit 2: WRONG WRONG !!! Thoralf sideboarded an island before the match so the odds are actually 1 in 113 000
@@BigCheeseNaan it's much higher than that, because all Islands are interchangeable, your math is only correct if you assume that each Island he saw was a unique Island that needed to be drawn in specific order
@@PiquantPan Yeah, if I'm remembering my stats right it's closer to 20%. He's got 8 cards out of the deck at the time of Ponder and he's got 1 land of 21 total. So the odds of 3 lands off Ponder is (20/52 * 19/51 * 18/50) or about 5%. The odds of two lands in a row after the shuffle is (20/52 * 19/51) or about 14%. Add those together for the total probability and it's 19.48%
@@krimhorn would it not be closer to 0.7%? because you would multiply the odds because they're in succession while adding them would only be for if it was one or the other?
the carl market sleeve making it into the pile of sleeves is incredible! did you guys ever figure out how that happened?
Yes! When editing the cheating video, I wanted to show the sleeve by making it pop up as an animation. So I pulled it off of the wall and took a photo, then left it on a table. Someone probably found it and put it back in the pile of sleeves we use for videos 😅
Carl should get a set of Carl Market sleeves
Can we buy Carl market sleeves??
@Leuber even the sleeves we drew them on are not for sale, we hand those out for free at events. But if you find me at an event with a pack of sleeves and 20 minutes, I'll make you a set of Carlmarket sleeves 😅
@@CardmarketMagic It'd be hilarious that decks that you send out are in Carl Market sleeves hahaha - I agree, they're fantastic.
Worth keeping in mind if for some reason your UA-cam channel does merch ever ;)
Watching this right after the behind the scenes video is a really cool experience! Everything you talked about there - the friendship, the joy, the trust, the thumbnail faces - all of it comes together to make something that feels welcoming in its effortless fun. Congrats again on 100k, you’ve earned it!
Thank you :)
Thoralf: “This hand seems like fair magic, I don’t like it”
Love it 😂😂😂
As a beginner player, to listen to more experienced players explaining their plays is really helpful. Plz continue these kind of content! 😊
After yesterday's behind-the-scenes video I have a much greater appreciation for the level of effort y'all keep putting into these videos. I especially love the Pauper content because it's so underappreciated and I even have a few banlist decks for when my pod is feeling 'aggressive' towards each other haha
No kidding, it's easy to forget just how much WORK it is to make something look this natural and authentic
Hello Card Market crew, I just wanted to say how amazing this channel is. The editing, the energy, it's all top notch and watching has really taken my interest in magic to new heights. I hope it continues doing well and you can keep growing the channel.
Thank you :) for both your kind words and for being here, enabling us to do this job and make videos about the game we love!
Looking through pauper's banlist is hilarious. It feels like every single card is banned because of storm.
Storm, Tron, and Affinity are the pauper decks that have gotten the most cards banned
I've only played 34 minutes of MTG Arena and so I'm fairly clueless about most stuff, but the way all your videos are structured makes it pretty easy to understand and follow and I really enjoy them!
2:54 Jamin spotting the sleeve cracked me up. Good eyes, dude. Spotted the marked card. Clearly Thoralf was in cahoots with Carl on this one! The cards don't lie.
*the carls dont lie
"Did you try hard enough?"
Believe in the Heart of the Cards!
Got to love the Carl Market sleeve...
I have been playing magic for quite some time, but it’s great to watch more seasoned players play and hear the logic behind their choices. I feel like it helps me with my own logic when it comes to making my own choices in game play. Keep up the good work
Easily the best paper mtg content on all of UA-cam. The editing is unreal, videos aren’t like 3 hours long of just gameplay, and the smart side commentary is amazing for breaking down what’s going on.
Its so cool watching this after the behind the scenes! Seeing everyone make notes for later and knowing what goes on makes it feel like we have insider knowledge now haha
You guys are a blast to watch. It's easy to follow, the background music is perfect, and the interviews are instructive without being intrusive. Also, Pauper is the best.
Pauper is indeed the best :)
Thank you guys so much for having our sticker featured in the video! It's an honor!
It was great meeting you in Pisa! Keep up the great work :D and let's make sure more people know about pauper!
Great vid! Love how you explain your thoughts so well while still keeping the video high paced and entertaining.
Can we all stop and appreciate how expertly Thoralf navigated that grapeshot into double lightning bolt?
It's so tempting to try and fire off those bolts earlier to get extra storm triggers. But had he done it in any other order, Jamin would have had choices and may have been able to keep a creature in play. The way it was sequenced, having perfect knowledge of Jamin's hand, perfectly cleared the board no matter what.
It also might have been tempting to attack for 5 + 6 from two bolts and another 5 from grapeshot to the dome. But the crack back was in hand, exactly lethal.
I could see an argument for attacking for 4, leaving a single blocker but you give Jamin so many outs off the top. Definitely better to clear and win on the ground.
Very impressive and probably not obvious! It just looked like Thoralf had it all, but he only had it all because he found the optimal line in a sea of options. And for that, I tip my hat.
Can you explain to me why his myr died? It was given protection from red.
@@ttvTheSquizz I never got the protection. He responded by killing it again, before the protection resolved.
It's a little confusing because they let one of the grapeshot copies resolve but left the last point stay on the stack.
Then it was pump, respond damage again, respond protection, respond damage a third time. The 2nd bolt was played last so it resolves first, killing the myr and fizzling/countering all the other cast spells.
To me all the plays in that turn were pretty straightfoward!
Love this kind of content, its fun seeing Thoralf's high level thought processes in the interview clips.
17:34 paying the two life AND keeping his island tapped. Chad move 😂
Super great video! Classic Thoralf, reading the minds of his opposing deck builder. Love to see the clashes and totally dig how many formats yall play. As always keep it up 🤙
You pauper content is my FAVORITE content! No one has the production quality you do, and I think it really contributes to the popularity of the format.
Pauper is also my favourite format! It would be really nice to think that we help get some new players to play with commons. The format is so fun :)
I love the Pauper content! Please keep it coming, it's my favorite format, and I love seeing it represented.
That ending was super close - I love watching these videos, and I cannot wait to see more pauper content in the future!
Really incredible attention to detail and innovation in the editing! Thanks! 😁
I never enjoyed watching paper magic until these videos popped up in my recommended feed a while back, thanks for making all this content, I really enjoy it!
Thank you for watching it and enabling us to make videos about the game we love :)
The insights into Toffels thinking were great, this is why he's a pro! This unbanned format has the potential for at least some more videos with other matchups, would love to see more.
Always a big fan of casual gameplay videos with interesting decks, especially pauper, really enjoyed it!
Love all of your content. The interaction between all of you guys is fantastic.
Always a blast to see you guys play pauper!
It is equally a blast for us :)
I would buy the Carl market sleeves
We don't sell them, but those sleeves are made for us to give away at events. If you ever catch me with a pack of sleeves and 20 minutes, I'll make you some Carlmarket sleeves :)
Super fun match and decks. Also kudos to the editors for great music & sfx choice, as well as a superb UI!
I'll pass on the congratulations to the editor :) he's our new addition to the team
Haven't watched for a while but it's so well done. Enjoyed this one guys!
Such a fun video, it was nice seeing the behind the scenes for this too.
Great video! Loved the match up! Was really rooting for that last forest!
Love the content, guys. Keep it up! Awesome production quality, Carl! Also always happy to see Jamin and Toffel!
Thank you :)
Watching those who enjoy what they do makes it way more enjoyable keep up the passion card market!
Love it when you guys play pauper! Its my favorite format ❤
It's my favourite format as will! I try to force in pauper videos as much as I can in the schedule 🤠
OH YEAH BOYYYYY. T his is gonna be a spicy one :3
Good luck Jamin, you will need it cause HOO BOY Pauper Storm.
Love this type of stuff, interesting gameplay is always welcome! Anything that shakes up standard play is gonna be a banger
Love all the content y'all make. Pauper content is especially wonderful!
This is for the algorithm! Also thank you for your content, its always great to watch.
Thank you for your sacrifice to the algorithm gods :) I'm happy you like the content, we put a lot of work into it
Terrific content, great chemistry, interesting perspectives, fun on a bun! My new obsession 👍
More pauper! I love your way of playing. Good decks, good plays but with a lot of laughter and interaction between players. Wholesome Magic content.
I'm happy you enjoy it :) we put a lot of effort into our content
Love all your magic content, and these "Magic: What if?" videos rank high on the list for me!
The group on this channel is awesome. Everyone has such fun and unique personalities. Great content! Keep it up!
Thank you :) we'll do our best!
19:55 My mind went to disciple of the vault and Atog though, was expecting affinity vs infect. Great video guys!
very clean and easy to follow. great content. cant wait to see this channel grow.
I haven't even watched the video yet, just commenting for the algorithm because this channel is incredible. Love you guys
Thank you :D
Great content as always guys, keep them coming! Really love the insightful interviews you give, since I've started watching this channel my own play has improved hugely thanks to your well-structured explanations - thanks!
Would love to see some more inventive Pioneer brews, maybe golgari +1/+1 counters?
If you go to our community tab, you'll see that we are currently collecting pioneer brews from the viewers to play next week :) if you send in a deck, maybe we'll be able to send you the cards in the mail
Y’all are so much fun to watch playing these sort of games
Pauper is always good content and I love seeing the no banned list play. I would love to see some more unbans in the format, namely High Tide, Sink Hole, and Hymn. I could be talked into a Gush too haha.
I am so thankfully there are channels out there producing proper paper magic content, ya'll UI smashes everyone else out of the water. In the spirit of this video, would love to see No bans in other formats like Modern. Keep up the good work.
We have done a few NBL moderns before (4-5 of them). We were trying something new with Pauper here, but we might do a modern one again some day :)
There's the video you guys mentioned 😂
I can't get enough of this channel❤
Thoralf's aggressive happy shaking of the hand at the end, lol.
Great video and I liked how you played out the last turn, it could have been an anti-climatic end, but you made it exciting :)
Woo! Pauper! I'm hype for this even if it is only a 20 minute video. Thank you for doing this. Looking forward to more pauper videos sometime in the future.
I wish we could do pauper video every week! :) it's my favourite format! But alas, I can only force them in every other month. Maybe we can help make the pauper community grow so I can push out more of these videos 😅
@@CardmarketMagic well, one way to help the format and community grow is to promote it so you're already doing the work there. Maybe by this time next year we'll get a pauper video every month instead of every other month.
Great video. You guys have some of the best quality 60 card paper content on UA-cam.
Thank you :) we try our best
Love the sportsmanship of flipping it on the table. Reminds me of the Sam Black play at the first Modern PT when he was on Infect combo.
i love how this channel is the perfect combo of goofs and incredibly high skill magic gameplay
these decks look really fun, and you two seemed to have a great time playing them :)
I love when you make those vids playing one another.
I would like to see more of this really interesting to see the astrolabe piles and other combo decks preform
Loving this channel. My favorite new mtg channel.
Such a fun video! Can't wait to watch more :)
16:06 the move from the scry to the hand was really clean ;)
I've been toying with the idea of a large scale no banned list pauper event in my local LGS. And filming the feature matches similar to your best decks tournament! I love that you guys had a similar idea!
That sounds great! If you do it, let us know. Feel free to write to shows@cardmarket.com if you ever have any production questions :) we always want more pauper content out there
Love the no ban list videos, love the pauper videos, today must be Christmas!
Great video as always, love to see pauper!
11:39 i really like the explainaition of the thought process.
Extra early for game play!! Awesome work cardmarket crew!
I enjoy all of your content, but I LOVE your Pauper stuff. The more Pauper players out there, the better!
Pauper is my favourite format so I try to sneak a pauper video in at least 4-5 times a year 🥸 maybe I'll start sneaking even more of them in
I usually don't care about pauper but you guys make any format enjoyable.
currently on my longest break from magic for a while and Thoralf's excitement to win a no-stakes match against a friend is always such an antidote to any negativity
Pauper content is my favorite and I love seeing these banned card videos. If only it had been squirrel storm, the funniest pauper deck ive ever seen
Its nice to see how pro player approaches lands and scry stuff
I really enjoy this kind of content.
big fan of infect and storm, fierce faceoff between the two!
also recognizable moments from the behind-the-scenes as well! great work and effort put into very entertaining mtg videos!
I'm happy you enjoyed it :)
@@CardmarketMagic thank you! hope you enjoyed it as well!
@lastnamefirstname8655 I didn't play it, but I was so happy to see these two NBL Pauper decks play out :) it reminded me how much I appreciate the B&R team!
@@CardmarketMagic you're all doing great so far!
Great video! I would love to see a cloudpost pauper deck going against old-school monoU combo.
Was looking forward to this video ❤
I hope you enjoyed it :)
This was a great video! Thank you!
Thank you :)
3:00 Even when he's not in the spotlight, he's there, Carl is the Batman confirmed
Great video. If I see goblins, I‘m happy
Great game and video as always guys!
Thank you :)
I love the Pauper gameplay videos!
this video is a solid 10, keep it up!
Good Memories. I've played both of these decks in some form in Pauper.
I'm always up for no banlist anything. SUper fun to see what crazy nonsense it could have been ^^
Mooooooooore pauper content!!! :D
Love it
Your lack of high tide disturbs (and disappoints) me
Thoralf was going to play high tide but switched to storm for content purposes, I believe
I dont know if you take suggestions but I would love to see a video where all of you choose a card you think is underrated in one format and build a deck around it to fight each other. Anyways I loved the video!
This was a fun watch!
Great Video, like always!
Thank you :)
Pauper is the best format!! Keep it coming
God, I remember playing this metagame in paper, one friend had storm, other had infect, and I was competing with green stompy with Nettle sentinels and Basking Rootvalas
Love me some pauper! Would love to see this with the chatterstorm relay version of storm (or if you’re feeling especially mean, sinkhole/hymn to tourach prison initiative)
