This week on TheCarGuys.tv a chance to revisit a car that has been on the garage ‘want’ list for over 4 years - the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. Alfa has managed to marry an unburstable Ferrari-derived engine with a sumptuous super-saloon body and created an absolute masterpiece!
It goes, it stops, it handles, it feels robust, tight, it feels… German. And that means that this Alfa Romeo is taking on the very latest BMW M3 and M4 - and still winning in its class.
If you want something that’s pretty, muscular, and seriously fast, this is the car for you. And now that it’s coming to the end of its life, there are some real juicy bargains to be had.
So, you’ve got to ask yourself a question. Do you want to go with the new BMW M3 and try to ignore THAT grill and being a bit underwhelmed? Or do you want a bit more… excitement in your life?
Thank you for watching

Thanks for all the great comments, guys. Just to let you know what happened with the sound in the exterior parts of this episode. The new dual channel Rode mics were unfortunately default set for separate left and right channels instead of being merged. So you get Damian in one ear and Jason in the other, and the sound levels were a little too high, particularly on Jason's, which means when he projected for a normal mic, it sounded a bit distorted.
Rest assured this is now sounded, and we will try not to shout so much now that we have dedicated mics for each of us, instead of a single one on the camera.
I've tried to adjust the levels to give the best sound for this episode, but I appreciate it may not be as good as it has been.
Normal service will be resumed next week.
I think GBnews have the same problem.
You guys never let me down just great review after review
It is pretty funny listening to the trunk closing skit, bouncing from one ear to the other.
Like a Beatles album. Jason Damian’s Lonely Revolver Road Car Sole.
Seriously! what over priced hi-fi are your viewers listening to this with. Sounds good enough to me.
BMW's for decades, love them, hate the new ones, just bought the QV, and in love.
You mean you don't love the "RODENT TEETH" ?
Dragon nose
@@jamesterakazis6624 Still no regrets, my love for the Alfa has deepened if anything, it has a soul, which was starting to be lost on BMW's as they became more and more sterile in the pursuit of perfection, which is why I have always had more real fun on the older BMW's ,take a look at my vids and you will see plenty of hooning in some old BMW's and having the time of my life.
How has it been for the last year? One of my dream cars I would like to know the reliability
Funny that I’ve had m5s for the last 13years and just bought a quad ,I’m blown away with it stunning car !!!
Italian passion at it's finest! Definitely one of my dream cars!
Mine is just as good today as it was 3 years ago when I took it new in the factory. Awaiting for my GTAm towards the end of the year. The engine is a derivative of the F154 well deserved and prized unit that is found in Maserati and Ferrari cars. The suspension and weight distribution coupled by the direct steering and front turn in is a work of art in this car. Try it flat out on a track and notice how light on its feet it feels and acts compared to other cars in this segment. No other sports sedan in this segment is as good a package as the 🍀
Sadly PATRIDA, we can't get the GTAm in USA !!!
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again…. I look out my window and see my neighbours BMW’s 🥱, then I go into town and see all the Mercedes waiting for a fare on the Taxi rank 🤦🏻♂️……. Anyone with passion and soul in their blood surly is on the side of the Alfa 😍
The car you tested- actually have a 40/10/40 folding rear seat back.
I thought so and All Alfa QV’s have a Carbon fiber roof. Just optional to get exposed Carbon Fiber.
Thought Jason said rimming championships, for a quiet village that would be extraordinary
But actually, not a surprise…
It's the quiet villagers you got to worry about.
Take this over the BMW anytime. Looks stunning. And sounds better.
Out-performed by the M in every measurable way, less reliable, and has the weirdest looking front end ever.
@@PCarDriver87 Yes but the Alfa has soul !

Great video. Very close to trading in an f80 m3 competition for a 2020 facelift Giulia QV. Taking this as a sign I should go ahead!

You won't regret it.
Great video guys. You highlighted that you can actually drive this car on bad British roads without bouncing off.
This car was actually designed and developed by Ferrari engineers , including the guy who did the 458s chassis and used Ferraris wind tunnel. Watch the savage geese Alfa quadrifoglio video that goes into more depth.
There were big plans for Alfa until 2015 when Ferrari split with fiat/Alfa. The Guilia and Stelvio were the only results of the plans. Shame.
I've a late 2016
Just had it tuned by celtic
It's now the ultimate super saloon with 604bhp and 574 ftlb torque
And tge exhausts valves open on dynamic
In race its a f%$%ing hooligan
👌
Hi who is celtic?have you there contact details are they good.where in the country are they.
Damn I thought I couldn't watch this until I saw the pinned comment and put both earbuds in. This is such a beautiful automobile!
As the original owner of a 2017 Giulia Quadrifoglio, I have petitioned BMW to please change the "Rodent Teeth" on the front of the new BMW M 3 because as they are always in my rear view mirror, they are making me nauseous....Hopefully this will lead to a redesign soon....
FORZA ALFA BABY !!!!
THE KING IS BACK !!!!
"The Italian Job"..cool reference with the film clip
👍
From the lower regions of europe a deep voice bellows: "So you can close your boot with a button? Burn the witch I say, burn the witch!!!" Down here we're still wondering why you can't option the oxen to pull the thing.
Brilliant video. I’ve been promising myself a genuine ‘drivers’ car for a couple of years. The (eclectic) short list was 991.2 GTS, 718 GT4 and the Giulia QV…. To be honest, bang for my buck, it’s hard to see past a Giulia QV, trofeo white & yellow callipers. 12 month old, mid £50’s…. Great to hear it’s mild mannered when pottering around but an animal when required. Perfect.
👍👍
I own one and these are fantastic cars.
Nice to see the passion but so much wrong and missed information in this video it’s scary.
*Its a 2.9 not 3.0 engine
*The rear seats do fold on MY18 onwards
*Race turns traction/safety features off aswell as many other things like opening the exhaust, pre prepping the turbos and changing even the brake feel.
*Models built before MY20 had a carbon roof standard albeit painted body colour.
*Steering isn’t light at all, it’s a fast rack though.
*A cheeky remap takes it to 605bhp 575ft lb (I went with Celtic tuning and highly recommend them)
*They genuinely do 191mph standard, people have actually hit 200mph.
*It has extensive use of carbon, you didn’t mention the propshaft is carbon too.
*You say it feels heavy, it’s no lightweight that’s for sure but certainly feels light on feet in comparison to all other cars it competes with.
On a super sensible run it will actually manage 40mpg!
Hi Stephen, glad you enjoyed the episode and congrats on owning such an awesome car. To address your points:
1. Well if we're being pedantic and not friendly about the engine size, it's actually 2891cc not 2.9 (sorry, we rounded up if that is offensive)
2. Thanks for the seat info
3. Race mode - yes obviously, we are not mentioning every aspect
4. Yes, in our 20+ minute unscripted dialogue whilst driving we probably didn't mentioned the specific difference between painted and unpainted carbon roof.
5. Steering - opinion, that is not wrong
6. Top speed - interesting, but if you paid attention you will note we mention the discrepancy between the 2 different speeds announced by Alfa. I find it unlikely that the standard cars could get to 191, but I haven't tested it.
7. We don't aim to mention every component. You probably want Shmee for that, or failing that, someone who just reads the spec sheet out to you
8. Weight - that is opinion. It's not wrong, your view is just different.
So you found that scary? You need to get out more🤪
Just curious, on a super sensible run after the celtic tune will it still get close to 40 mgp on advance mode or eco mode?
Got my Quadrifoglio a couple of months ago and love it. The used price mentioned of £30-35K is probably a bit optimistic. There might be a couple of cars in this price bracket but most are more like £35-40K. Also I thought the rear seats do fold on the later models - they didn't on the earlier cars. Opening the bonnet is also entirely possible by yourself too :-). They all have a carbon roof as standard (it's an option to have exposed carbon). The exhaust values only fully open in Race mode which also switches off all traction control. You can get a remote exhaust control fitted so can then open/close in any mode.
Used prices now over £45k.
Drive shaft is also carbon fibre
@@watm80 Yes, propshaft/driveshaft is carbon (and bonnet). They've also changed the spec on new Quadrifoglios now so the carbon roof isn't standard any more and it is a cost option.
100% get the carbon seats, better performance /looks and just as comfortable. 200 cell sports cats adds to the driving experience. This a true 4 door Ferrari, incredible value for dollar, elegant fast and beautiful.
BOYS, BOYS, BOYS !!! I'm never going to get through this at this rate....AT 10:00...."available with Carbon roof"....they've always had a Carbon Bonnet (as you quails call them) and a Carbon Roof...the difference is that they are painted body color....later on in production, they became available non painted or exposed.....Come on DAWGS ...A little homework please...But so far, it's a great review because you're PISSING ON BMW !!!!
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK !!!
@@NealsBrush I don't believe the forums....Can't imagine they would create a "Steel" panel. If it's not Carbon on this car, it's aluminum....
10:00 Actually its got the Carbon roof. All Giulia QV have a carbon roof *as standard* , but its painted just like the carbon bonnet. On the new models there is an option for an exposed carbon roof, which simply means they dont paint it in the cars colour...so if you want an exposed cf roof, you can just peel off the paint, instead off ordering a new roof.
Looks amazing in that colour
I can only speak for were I am but In Detroit Michigan in the USA over here I see BMW M3’s and M5’s even a few M8 but I can literally count on one hand the times I seen a actual Quadra on the street not with a manufacturer plate or dealer plate actual customer bought car so I’d get the Quadra just for that bc both cars u could love to own
You and me both, buddy
The best thing about this car is the manual boot lid and there are literally zero bad reviews of this car
Having sorted an alternative family waggon I’m now looking for one of these, 12/18 months old. Despite being a bit of a BMW fan boy I’ll take this over the M3 all day long. 👍
I have seen many reviews on this car. All of them said that this car is the best 4 door sports sedan so far. And what I like about it? The Ferrari engine!
It’s the Stelvio Quad which topped out at 176mph. The Giulia Quad will do over 190.
Alfa everyday and twice on a Sunday....👍👍👍
Finally!
Crazy fast car.
Damian. I just did. Go out and buy one that is! Ocra. Amazing thing to both look at and drive. This will be the last car I own. I saved the best for last. I wouldn't care if Ferrari had nothing to do with it - which they most certainly did - but this is a very special automobile. Keep up the great videos!

@@TheCarGuysTV Welcome!
Great car, even better video! Thanks for a great analysis as always guys!
Very good video. Many people prefers the Germans cars because of better interiors and infotainment. Unfortunately there are just few that evaluate the cars for the intrinsic qualities such as the double wishbone suspension and carbon fiber transmission shaft. It is indisputable that after 6 Years this machine still very competent technically and aesthetically...this is unattainable level for the competitors.
Great review guys and an amazing car
👍👍
A tasty Italian with a garnish of beans...thanks lads 👍
Didn't have the money for the QV. So after my 3.2 GT from 2006 I have a red Giulia Veloce.
Mate, that's good enough, the Quadrifoglio is the dream. The Veloce is the one you can afford new and gives you 70% of the thrills, with all of the beauty, all of the practicality. The Alfa Giulia is one of the most underrated cars of the past 10 years and I wished more consumers buy it. I'm probably biased because she is my absolute favourite, but I still think non-car guys wanting a family saloon should give it a go. They will be converted into Alfistis in no time!
Man my veloce is amazing, theres no better car in the segment, just like the qv
it is sounds bad and looks mediocre. At least the QV sounds good.
You'll stick with the handling
Looks fantastic and I love the blue.Great video as usual.Cheers
Great episode and what a car. Always been on the list. Shame the new rode wireless mics weren't quite up to scratch this week, but I'm sure you'll work out the kinks. Thanks gents
Kinks are now worked out - who knew the default was splitting the channels L and R instead of merged?
Love these look so much better in the flesh gorgeous
Alfa Romeo Giulia QV 🏆👑⚽🇮🇹 The Best
Great video, the only issue is that it's a Quadrifoglio not a Quadrofoglio, a Quadro is a picture frame, and the g is silent..
Ciao..🙂
I would go and buy one if I could afford one. 🤣
What a totally epic video....just love the QV. :)

I think it sounds fantastic. Another great video guys
Thanks, Tom
Beautiful car.
Does it have any rattles inside the cabin? My brand new BMW M550i has a disgusting rattle in the back seat behind the passenger's side and no one can seem to find or fix it. I'm disgusted.
It’s such a fantastic piece of design.
The new QV's come with a lot of heavy sound deadening hence the lesser cabin sound from the exhaust. I own a late 2017 and it sounds epic!
You lucky boy
A bit scary in heavy rain where outside temp below 10 C, luckily Michelin now do their Pilot Sport 4S tyres for the QV.
And now thd QV is probably at least £10k cheaper than the equivalent M3.
'Tweeking the nipples of the grim reaper' 🤣 another great video guys 👍
What a sound from the exhaust..!! Amazing alternative to all the mainstream M3ˋs and C63ˋs
Race mode swithces off traction control not just making the exhust loud
Have they still not sorted this ?
@@freddiejones4598 it is the intended purpose of race mode. What do you mean sorted out?
@@usarkarzts4207 that you can’t put race mode on that does a variety of things without backing of traction. You can do that in all it’s rivals. For example I would drive in race mode all the time due to the increased exhaust. However in the wet it would be pretty sketchy
@@freddiejones4598 the new models I think that the exhaust also opens in dynamic for that reason.
Who doesn't love an Alfa. Especially one with a Ferrari engine in it. But I want one in the new Montreal green. But i just can't pull the trigger on a car with no boot closing button. Great review guys..
That’s exactly why I cancelled my order! I will not be degrading to peasant level!
First work problems 💀💀 sheeshh
@@KarmaticEvolution bro even some Ferraris and lambos don't have trunk closing buttons. Peasants am I right. 💀💀
Think these MY21 models have particulate filters hence the quieter exhaust
I'll give TUBBY some credit...at least he got on it....at 19:32 another area where HOMEWORK is LACKING...the early cars like mine did NOT have rear folding seats...in fact, the 2017's did not even have a rear armrest....if you look at the image at 19:32 you can CLEARLY SEE the rear seat seams indicating that the car has a rear armrest as well as rear folding seats increasing boot (as you quails call it) capacity.....Keep on plugging TUBBY !! PS - It was BALDY that didn't know about the rear folding seats though....PEACE OUT DAWGS !!!!
If you are going to resort to childish names, you are gone. Edit or it will happen.
Superb video, one of your very best 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Looks like a great car but seems that ‘peak’ car was 2018 before all of the exhaust filter nonsense….
Great review - thanks. I am biased though as the very, very happy owner of a Giulia Veloce😉
👍👍
Yes ❤
Thank you, The Car Guys.
1650kg Heavy? Come on guys its a 4 dr saloon 🤷🏻♂️
Just purchased one myself
You legend!
I drive a 2021 Ti Sport with adaptive suspension and it is dynamically the 2nd best car I’ve owned (Evo X MR) was the best. The QV is on my Autotrader watch list and I think it’s only a matter of time before I own one.
I’m curious how they compare. Very similar on paper. I’ve driven a Ti sport but never driven an Evo. I would imagine it just feels like a very refined more luxurious evo. Is the evo steering just as sharp or sharper? I need to drive an evo lol.
@@jjchockey the Evo was like a rabid animal that was unable to drive slowly. 3000 rpm at 70 mph on the highway made it pretty noise and it sucked down fuel (22 mpg was as good as it got). It had hydraulic steering so definitely more feel but the Giulia’s steering is quicker. The Evo’s dual clutch trans that was rebuilt by Shep Trans was the best feeling trans I’ve ever driven. The Giulia’s torque converter trans feels very soft and dull by comparison. I rode bikes for years and the Evo is the closest I’ve ever come to a 4-wheel super bike. Someday I might just have to get another one but values are only going up for low mile examples. Also as I get older I care more and more about highway comfort. I’m planning on getting a Kona N when I sell my 3-series wagon since it seems to be the most fun thing in its price class.
Love it. We have the stelvio version
👌
Tops speed 192 0-60 with traction 3.4
Why is there no left hand speaker sound?
The BMW fan boys won’t be happy after watching this video...... lol
The QV is the way to go!
You’re entitled to your own opinion. No one is pointing a guy at your head to make you admit that M3 is better

These have been on my radar for a while now …they look beautiful on the road and sound epic …..
Interior doesn’t match up to the M3 though …..
Still a bit of thought to go on before a purchase …
10:46 - Oddly enough, every reviewer I've seen with a manual QV states the gearbox isn't very good.
I almost got one, but chose the m3/m4 as they still had manual option. And rev matching manual which is perfect for daily driving. Now I'd have to choose Alfa over the new m3/m4.
rear seats now fold down on later models
They should have made a coupe version...
I have one never selling it I want to buy a couple more to tuck away in the warehouse.
Questions:
1 - could the absence of an electronic bootdoor shutting mechanism be down to crimping the weight of the car? Likewise, an electronic release mechanism for the bonnet? (Considering how reflexive it is to manually shut the bootdoor, I have absolutely no qualms about the lack of an electronic bootdoor. If Alfa would go to such lengths as to render the bonnet lid in carbon fibre, I think we can cut them some slack that they're absolutely single-minded about keeping the car's weight down.)
2 - sound of exhaust when the engine rolled to life - did Alfa save their trademark exhaust roar for the Sports mode?
So, according to you guys, this car is a superlatives galore, eh?
You’ll note the ENTIRE bit about the boot release was a joke.
the discrepancy between the top speeds is the stelvio is the lower top speed...its nearly a 200mph car.
Hey Thank you for the Video. What about the carbon ceramic breaks? Many journalists said, they are too nervous and annoying. Did you like them? Fabulous car!!
Ok, so first time seeing you guys, but am willing to come back. So long as you address the ~ @10:56 "on startup, sounds a bit like a Mondeo" comment. Speaking for this QV home - and on behalf of my neighbors, who ALL noticed the 'exhaust valve plug mod' right away - then thanks indeed to AR / FCA for the quiet start-up mode, even if you left it in R whilst pulling into the garage the night before.
@11:45 'race basically gives you loud exhaust'... whilst I wondered before, now I am assured you two are not knowledgeable of the cars - or this car, anyway? - you're testing. 🤦♂
Great example, the buttons on the wheel don't turn off anything you haven't already turned on. Eg, cruise or freaking radio volume. I appreciate your willingness to either love or hate a car... but not sure why you wouldn't edit things that are part of easy ownership out... like where some buttons are & what they do lol.
Weird twist @ the end. 🍀
The Giulia Quadrifoglio has a 2.9 L twin-turbocharged V6 according to Alfa Romeo of North America and a 3 liter as Damon stated in this video.

its all very well saying 'buy this over an M4' and as good as it looks lets not forget it is an Alfa....Which one will still be looking good and driving good after a few years?:?? Alfas have always looked good and driven well but has the quality improved?? and what about depreciation??
Hi Damian, quality has improved and if you buy new right now you can get such a huge discount, a lot of depreciation is offset. BMWs depreciate too you know 👍

The audio on this upload is jarring going left right and distorted, like the car though.
With a coefficient of drag of .25 and over 500 HP, why wouldn't the QV achieve 191 MPH?

Problem with Alfa is depreciation and reliability (electronics). Its a great buy on the second hand market.
Or, there are some serious new deals at the moment - huge ones.
