Not sure if LG has massively improved its processing or if the Bravia 8 just got hella nerfed, but looks like the C4 might be the better buy this year.
@@Evanthemovieguy C4 has the same processor from last year, idk how the accuracy and OOTB went in the C4s favor. The only tv where they improved the processing was the G3 to G4. So they could go after the A95L. The XR outclassed every processor last year. Still does. The G4 just caught up.

@@masomafbut they never hold the manufacturers accountable when later issues show up. They’ve been pushing LG for years. I bought in when they gave the C8 a great review. It was a great TV for a few years until it started developing burn in, but more importantly red pixel degradation in the center of the screen that’s not caused from any static images. This was a problem that seemed to affect really just LG OLED TVs (search LG OLED green blob). And LG really never stood by it. But every year it’s “LG OLEDs are the brightest and best on this brand new TV”. At least give a caveat in the reviews that LG OLED TVs have had known longevity issues in the past, with a further statement saying they’ve rectified it by doing x,y, and z. I’m finally at the point where I cant stand watching my LG C8, so I’m in the market for a new TV after 5 and a half years, and honestly could have been looking for a new one 1 and a half or 2 years ago. It pains me to even consider LG again, so I’d be fine paying a little more for a TV that isn’t quite as bright if it had a reputation of quality and longevity. LG might have even fixed the problem, but the sting from getting burned is still there.
Pause it at 4:52 and actually look at the side by side. The Sony has more detail in the flower, more colour detail. Ratings are lg shills, clearly LG pay more for the affiliate purchases. I know they pay more commission to retailers.
I went for BRAVIA 8 where sales guy recommended C4 as well. Also worth to take into consideration is power consumption- Sony is half of C4! It’s a big difference in 6-8years is about 600 euro (Germany - 5hours daily use).
Thisss... I know that when I'd buy any LG or Samsung, I'd have to connect a Chromecast to it. I'd much rather have Android / Google TV running natively on the tv itself.
I hate how reviews say 4k/120hz and eARC is a bad thing for receivers. Mostly all new receivers need that 4k/120hz or 8k/60hz on eARC as they can also use 4k/120hz. Not sure if they can do 144hz yet but wont be long I would say. Like mine Pioneer VSX-535 or even Onkyo TX-SR3100. That saying apparently all higher end tv models coming out next year should be able to do 4x 4k/144hz

Just play in cinema mode. I have a 42” c2 and when I put it in game optimizer and move the mouse around vs cinema there is no difference. So I play in cinema.
Good review, as usual, but I really missed how the TVs handle motion. Sony has usually been superior here, and it is a significant part of the TV experience.
I looked at both at best buy and like them both but Sony Won for me . Hopefully it was a good choice for my home theater for just movies my room is dark . C4 was nice also . Glad i got the sony on sale full price it would not been worth it. My last tv was a panasonic zt60 still going but some burn in now . Got my parents a 4k c3 after i was hooked on oled .

I'm a bit disappointed in Sony's tv this year. I think they've lost ground to other brands. Less performance plus Sony tax, really hard to justify buying Sony tv this year.

I disagree buying a Bravia 8 over a C4 is more than worth it. When you see sony's reality creation setting in action all other TVs brands look blurry in comparison. Not to mention the Bravia 8 is brighter in game mode in sdr than the C4.
Sony led tvs are the only ones that I can watch, I am sensitive to pwm flicker and their led tvs are the best regarding eye strain, lg and samsung are the worst, they are eye and brain killers.
Regarding s90d, id still take the C4. No dolby vision, the build quality looks cheap, the bezel is thicker, purely from a design perspective lg is far superior, not to mention they've been in the oled game alot longer than Samsung.

No not at all, the AVR market is still competitive but the majority of people are happy with sound bars, and considering how good soundbars have gotten especially the higher end ones, I'm not surprised. While nothing can beat a true AVR Dolby Atmos setup, particularly the Sony avrs with their 360 sound field mapping tech, a lot of the expensive sound bars do a fantastic job and I mean a fantastic job

Same. I will be getting the Bravia 8. The processing etc won me over. I used to have LG LED and currently Samsung QLED. Time for a switch up to OLED and the Sony’s processing for movies is a winner for me.

I just came back from looking at these and to our eyes the LG C4 had that strange "soap opera" problem with all settings. The picture might have been a tad sharper ---- but I hate that fake choppy strobe motion that plagues many mid-line TVS ------ we noticed you need to move up to the LG G4 class to match the natural smooth motion of the Bravia 8
I just bought the 55 inch Sony Bravia 8 for my PC yesterday. I was surprised there was a setup function that gave you the option to set up the tv for a dedicated PC monitor. To sum it up, I love it.
I’m thinking of doing the same. I have the s90d but it’s pretty bad. Motion artifacts are constant and it locks the black level control for gaming so some games look awful where Sony automatically selects the perfect black level control. I regret buying the s90 :(
@@X4Piper I sit around two feet away from my 55 inch Bravia screen any it's not overwhelming in the slightest. Some people whine and moan about how they have to move their head to different areas of a big screen like a 55 inch monitor, but it really isn't bad at all. As for the color accuracy of the Sony, it's superb. For many years, I was a dedicated LG user, but in the last 3 years, I gave Sony a try with their A90J. Since then, the quality of a Sony has truly opened my eyes, and now I have 3 large Sony's in my household. Never looking back.

@@Bklynblaze1 honestly they're both good displays, it was more the functionality. I'm personally not a fan of LG's WebOS. As for brightness, yes, I'm very satisfied. But I did tinker with the settings a bit and felt it was too dark with the default settings.

If it weren’t for the voice zoom 3, it would eve consider the Sony, over the LG, but getting better dialogue is nice, and if you don’t game, and calibrate the set, and don’t have them sitting side by side !!!, a person is going to love the Bravia 8 !!!

Sony needs to cut back on some of the products they provide so they can better focus their resources on their better selling products. I don't know anyone that owns a Sony phone and I know LG got out of the phone market and it shows in these side by side comparisons.
The c4 may be better but I’d buy the Sony purely for the much better Google tv os. Also if they weren’t next to each other I doubt many people could even tell the difference!

Numbers mean nothing when you watch the 2 side by side with your eyes. Sony is better. I saw it, from sound to image clarity, to motion, colours, the only downside is price. 3 sellers agreed with me, 2 from the retailer one was a samsung seller. by the way the samsung seller said to me "i have a a95l and a80l, and i work for Samsung".
My older 55” A80j is leaps and bounds better than my newer 77” LG C3. Especially when it comes to motion. The Sony image is just magic and defines oled.

No one is using internal speakers on a TV like this. If you’re spending over $2K on a TV to use the integrated speakers you’re wasting your money. At least get a soundbar lol

It's panel lottery. You'll find Sonys with good colour accuracy and Sonys without. Same with LG. Don't read too much into it..
Both those TVs are about the same price in Canada at Best Buy at the moment. I think they're about a $100 difference.

LG has had this problem since the C2 and haven't fixed it so doubtful

Bought the B8 to replace, get this, a Panasonic TC-L42U12 LCD TV (TCL42U12). Hey Sony marketing, pay attention...before I made the purchase I watched all the RTINGS reviews that just dogged on the B8. So why did I still buy the B8?
I'm coming from a Google© TV (dongle) environment, and as such, I wanted a native Google© TV experience. My wife and I are simply familiar with the UI coupled with YTtv.
Brightness, brightness, brightness...the above mentioned LCD (TCL42U12) has 500 cd/m2...so while other OLED models have more brightness than the B8, the B8 still has more brightness than what we currently use.
Although I've never seen it mentioned in any review, WiFi ax...6e. We live in a very WiFi congested area and after using a WiFi analyzer, we discovered the only 2 devices in our area operation on WiFi 6e are....our phones. I'd much rather use a CAT6 cable if I was limited to WiFi 5/6, now I don't have to. That bandwidth is going to be used exclusively for our TV, for how long, unsure...you might be surprised at how few consumer products have yet to use ax.
Now I just have to figure out what the hell the deal is with "center speaker use". I keep hearing about it, no idea what it means.

Same. I will be getting the Bravia 8. The processing etc won me over. I used to have LG LED and currently Samsung QLED. Time for a switch up to OLED and the Sony’s processing for movies is a winner for me.

So why is the color gamut so bad?
its because the dont use Cadmium these days like they did in 2013 with the W905

I watch TV using an antenna. LG's lack of support for ATSC 3.0 NextGen tuners is a deal breaker for me. I'll go with the Braivia 8.
I just came back from looking at these and to our eyes the LG C4 had that strange "soap opera" problem with all settings. The picture might have been a tad sharper ---- but I hate that fake choppy strobe motion that plagues many mid-line TVS ------ we noticed you need to move up to the LG G4 class to match the natural smooth motion of the Bravia 8
Soap opera can be set off, motion settings such as trumotion and judder are affecting.
Also turn of enhancers such as noise reduction.
green tint on C4?
I just bought the 55 inch Sony Bravia 8 for my PC yesterday. I was surprised there was a setup function that gave you the option to set up the tv for a dedicated PC monitor. To sum it up, I love it.
I’m thinking of doing the same. I have the s90d but it’s pretty bad. Motion artifacts are constant and it locks the black level control for gaming so some games look awful where Sony automatically selects the perfect black level control. I regret buying the s90 :(
@@X4Piper I sit around two feet away from my 55 inch Bravia screen any it's not overwhelming in the slightest. Some people whine and moan about how they have to move their head to different areas of a big screen like a 55 inch monitor, but it really isn't bad at all. As for the color accuracy of the Sony, it's superb. For many years, I was a dedicated LG user, but in the last 3 years, I gave Sony a try with their A90J. Since then, the quality of a Sony has truly opened my eyes, and now I have 3 large Sony's in my household. Never looking back.
what about green tint in LG that you mentioned in comparison with Samsung?
In my opinion is a completely partial evaluation favoring LG.
Sony B8 has a much better picture accuracy and sound quality than the LG.

@@Bklynblaze1 honestly they're both good displays, it was more the functionality. I'm personally not a fan of LG's WebOS.
As for brightness, yes, I'm very satisfied. But I did tinker with the settings a bit and felt it was too dark with the default settings.

I’m assuming the Bravia 8 will be plenty bright enough, especially for a basement setting which I will have complete light control. I’m also fine with having to tinker with settings. I’d love the A95L but I just can’t bring myself to pull the trigger on spending 5K for it.

This is a step back
If it weren’t for the voice zoom 3, it would eve consider the Sony, over the LG, but getting better dialogue is nice, and if you don’t game, and calibrate the set, and don’t have them sitting side by side !!!, a person is going to love the Bravia 8 !!!

Sony needs to cut back on some of the products they provide so they can better focus their resources on their better selling products. I don't know anyone that owns a Sony phone and I know LG got out of the phone market and it shows in these side by side comparisons.
The c4 may be better but I’d buy the Sony purely for the much better Google tv os. Also if they weren’t next to each other I doubt many people could even tell the difference!
The LG webos works fine, point an click too with a cursor very handy

Dull hdr game mode is so annoying.
It lowers brigtness in sdr as well, but why don't you disable hdr it's trash
1) How can you do a face off and not talk about sound?
2) Every day, content is not going to max out the brightness of any tv.
The way you score tvs is too old school.
No mention of detail enhancement either as in LGs super resolution or Sonys reality creation feature
This looks more LG sponsored review. she did even uttered a word about sound comparison, LG stands no where near to Sony Bravia. Its simple, if you need to Movie experience Sony is your Choice. with LG you need by external sound Bar, which make the cost equal or More than Sony.

Numbers mean nothing when you watch the 2 side by side with your eyes. Sony is better. I saw it, from sound to image clarity, to motion, colours, the only downside is price. 3 sellers agreed with me, 2 from the retailer one was a samsung seller. by the way the samsung seller said to me "i have a a95l and a80l, and i work for Samsung".
My older 55” A80j is leaps and bounds better than my newer 77” LG C3. Especially when it comes to motion. The Sony image is just magic and defines oled.
