Not sure if LG has massively improved its processing or if the Bravia 8 just got hella nerfed, but looks like the C4 might be the better buy this year.
Both have improved but rthings changes their scores
@@Evanthemovieguy C4 has the same processor from last year, idk how the accuracy and OOTB went in the C4s favor. The only tv where they improved the processing was the G3 to G4. So they could go after the A95L. The XR outclassed every processor last year. Still does. The G4 just caught up.
@@Evanthemovieguy in my book “image processing” is less about sharp upscaling and more about “how does it look with soap-opera motion enhancers turned off”? Sony excels at this.

I'm a bit disappointed in Sony's tv this year.
I think they've lost ground to other brands.
Less performance plus Sony tax, really hard to justify buying Sony tv this year.
They themselves do not hope for good sales:: "Forecast for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025. Sales are expected to decrease primarily due to a decrease in sales of televisions resulting from lower unit sales..." (2024 Sony financial statement)
Re: the Sony "tax", right now the 55" is $50 less than the C4, 65" is same price, at major retailers.

I disagree buying a Bravia 8 over a C4 is more than worth it. When you see sony's reality creation setting in action all other TVs brands look blurry in comparison. Not to mention the Bravia 8 is brighter in game mode in sdr than the C4.
Sony led tvs are the only ones that I can watch, I am sensitive to pwm flicker and their led tvs are the best regarding eye strain, lg and samsung are the worst, they are eye and brain killers.

@@masomafbut they never hold the manufacturers accountable when later issues show up. They’ve been pushing LG for years. I bought in when they gave the C8 a great review. It was a great TV for a few years until it started developing burn in, but more importantly red pixel degradation in the center of the screen that’s not caused from any static images. This was a problem that seemed to affect really just LG OLED TVs (search LG OLED green blob). And LG really never stood by it. But every year it’s “LG OLEDs are the brightest and best on this brand new TV”. At least give a caveat in the reviews that LG OLED TVs have had known longevity issues in the past, with a further statement saying they’ve rectified it by doing x,y, and z.
I’m finally at the point where I cant stand watching my LG C8, so I’m in the market for a new TV after 5 and a half years, and honestly could have been looking for a new one 1 and a half or 2 years ago. It pains me to even consider LG again, so I’d be fine paying a little more for a TV that isn’t quite as bright if it had a reputation of quality and longevity. LG might have even fixed the problem, but the sting from getting burned is still there.
That out of box color accuracy on the Sony gotta be a deal breaker, especially considering the price increase
Yea considering their A95L is still the GOAT this kind of accuracy for that price is unacceptable.
The Bravia 8 is more color accurate, I don't care what Rtings says, it looks more realistic
It's panel lottery. You'll find Sonys with good colour accuracy and Sonys without. Same with LG. Don't read too much into it..

Good review, as usual, but I really missed how the TVs handle motion. Sony has usually been superior here, and it is a significant part of the TV experience.
I hate how reviews say 4k/120hz and eARC is a bad thing for receivers. Mostly all new receivers need that 4k/120hz or 8k/60hz on eARC as they can also use 4k/120hz. Not sure if they can do 144hz yet but wont be long I would say. Like mine Pioneer VSX-535 or even Onkyo TX-SR3100. That saying apparently all higher end tv models coming out next year should be able to do 4x 4k/144hz

Both those TVs are about the same price in Canada at Best Buy at the moment. I think they're about a $100 difference.

Same. I will be getting the Bravia 8. The processing etc won me over. I used to have LG LED and currently Samsung QLED. Time for a switch up to OLED and the Sony’s processing for movies is a winner for me.

Another Great job,love Sony tv’s, but LG won me over this past year, my last 2 tv’s are LG Oled’s . I love em, only thing I would change is the stand & the remote, I hate that little rotating nub on LG’s magic remote. Totally useless & annoying. C series for living room, B series for bedroom ❤

Thisss... I know that when I'd buy any LG or Samsung, I'd have to connect a Chromecast to it. I'd much rather have Android / Google TV running natively on the tv itself.

what about green tint in LG that you mentioned in comparison with Samsung?
I looked at both at best buy and like them both but Sony Won for me . Hopefully it was a good choice for my home theater for just movies my room is dark . C4 was nice also . Glad i got the sony on sale full price it would not been worth it. My last tv was a panasonic zt60 still going but some burn in now . Got my parents a 4k c3 after i was hooked on oled .
Are a lot of people using their TVs as the HDMI input hub? I imagined most people buying TVs of this caliber would be using AV Receivers for this role.

I watch TV using an antenna. LG's lack of support for ATSC 3.0 NextGen tuners is a deal breaker for me. I'll go with the Braivia 8.

Too much time spent on design and stand. Comparison is missing remote, OS, speakers, auto dimming issues, and glare comparisons.
This review has no qualitative comparison in cinema experience. Bad review.
Is there any chance that the LG dimmed image issue in gaming mode will be improved in a future software upgrade since even the B4 does not dim? It can't be an hardware issue, come on
LG has had this problem since the C2 and haven't fixed it so doubtful
Just play in cinema mode. I have a 42” c2 and when I put it in game optimizer and move the mouse around vs cinema there is no difference. So I play in cinema.

I just came back from looking at these and to our eyes the LG C4 had that strange "soap opera" problem with all settings. The picture might have been a tad sharper ---- but I hate that fake choppy strobe motion that plagues many mid-line TVS ------ we noticed you need to move up to the LG G4 class to match the natural smooth motion of the Bravia 8
Soap opera can be set off, motion settings such as trumotion and judder are affecting.
Also turn of enhancers such as noise reduction.

Does calibrating SDR in the Sony Bravia 8 automatically carry over to HDR settings as in previous Sony TVs? I do my own calibrations and this would be a big factor in which TV to purchase.

Pause it at 4:52 and actually look at the side by side. The Sony has more detail in the flower, more colour detail. Ratings are lg shills, clearly LG pay more for the affiliate purchases. I know they pay more commission to retailers.

Sony had already said it should not have released this Bravia 8 if it had 55" versions of the Bravia 9 with a better price.
If it weren’t for the voice zoom 3, it would eve consider the Sony, over the LG, but getting better dialogue is nice, and if you don’t game, and calibrate the set, and don’t have them sitting side by side !!!, a person is going to love the Bravia 8 !!!
Does someone else has black screen flickering on the LG G4? I bought mine a week ago and since then I've this issue white watching on the build in UA-cam and Twitch App and white playing games on PC and PS5.
Is there anything I should be aware of when buying a LG G4 TV like different displays they might have used or other parts of the TV you know like some different versions from the same modell...
Sony needs to cut back on some of the products they provide so they can better focus their resources on their better selling products. I don't know anyone that owns a Sony phone and I know LG got out of the phone market and it shows in these side by side comparisons.

its because the dont use Cadmium these days like they did in 2013 with the W905
They should have sticked with Color IQ from QD Vision

The c4 may be better but I’d buy the Sony purely for the much better Google tv os. Also if they weren’t next to each other I doubt many people could even tell the difference!
The LG webos works fine, point an click too with a cursor very handy

The x90l is still the clear winner
In my opinion is a completely partial evaluation favoring LG.
Sony B8 has a much better picture accuracy and sound quality than the LG.

Dull hdr game mode is so annoying.
It lowers brigtness in sdr as well, but why don't you disable hdr it's trash
1) How can you do a face off and not talk about sound?
2) Every day, content is not going to max out the brightness of any tv.

Unfortunately both TVs have a green tint when viewing off angle. Check the chroma graph and hue graph for both TVs on the Rtings website. The graphs are identical and both TVs look greenish. Somehow LG messed up all their panels this year (not G4) whether LG puts them in their own TV or sells them to Sony or other manufacturers. I wouldn't buy either one because of this. I also wouldn't buy Samsung S90 D because of their lousy processing.

technology, but again it is not on board. Yet it's surprisingly expensive.
It’s quite unusual for a Sony to have such bad accuracy out of the box but once you see a calibrated image, you’ll quickly settle for an uncalibrated beautiful image as opposed to an image that kills your TV.

@@turrican4d599filmmaker mode is the most accurate mode but it’s image death for all current TVs even if you watch in pure darkness. These TVs are capable of a much better image than the creator’s intent. Even in a show like Succession where image quality shouldn’t matter, Standard warm is 10x times better than FMM, if not 20 to 30. It’s unwatchable in the accurate mode.

No one is using internal speakers on a TV like this. If you’re spending over $2K on a TV to use the integrated speakers you’re wasting your money. At least get a soundbar lol

As I predicted, the Bravia 8 is just an A80L with a 2024 makeover. If you have an A80L, just stick with it. I think Sony should have either (1) released the A95L earlier last year, or (2) held off until this year so they could have included a third-generation QD-OLED panel, and renamed it according to their 2024 modeling system. If they had released it earlier last year, it would still have been worthy of being the best for 2023, and would have given them a chance to release its successor in 2024, more than likely being the best for 2024 because of its third-generation QD-OLED performance, XR processing, and wide format compatibility. Make sense?

Damn this really made me question buying the Bravia 8. I have a sony A7000 so I really like to stay with a sony tv. Ive also never owned an oled so I thought id likely get the bravia 8 sometime around Thanksgiving for a sale. Maybe I just try to snag an A80l if I can get it at 65 inches.
Get an A95L if you can find one. Should be at discounted price right now.
I just went to see the Sony Bravia at a friends house who purchased it it's far superior to the a80l and its only rival is the 95l in my books when it comes to the visuals/the picture! I highly recommend it. Don't always listen to "experts"
Don't. RTINGs are very lg baid due to the extra money they get through affiliation. Their review scored take into account stats like HDR brightness on a 2% window but rarely favour upscaling and colour depth/detail in real world viewing. It's like trying to judge artwork by it's use of pains rather than painting method.
I've been in a store today and I've seen the G4 Vs the bravia 8. The G4 was brighter for sure but the bravia 8 looked much clearer.
