    I enjoyed the heck outta this. I also would’ve stuck with stock wheels and maybe a bimodal exhaust instead. But the owner obviously likes it and that’s awesome.

    • @1oldskoolluvr
      @1oldskoolluvr Рік тому +4

      Short exhaust is partly the reason for the loud level exhaust. Simply running that out behind the axle would drop that tone considerably. I know when i had the duals on my '81 C10 dumping in front of each rear wheel, i could drive through a multilevel parking structure, and set off car alarms simply by driving in 1st gear around 2200-2500 RPM. Yeah, we were all young & dumb at some point in our lives, lol!

    Great review Rich, my 2020 crew cab coyote is packing a Gen5 whipple. The coyote loves boost. As far as the AC drain, FORD sells a rubber elbow that you put on the drain tab and it will shoot straight down. I was a die hard GM truck guy but after owning 3 aluminum F150’s there’s a reason it’s the best selling pickup here in the states. Love the channel, you’re the man!

    Like the reviews because you know what your talking about and you tell it straight good or bad. I have a 2011 FX4 Ford screw with the 5.0L 6R80 4x4 3.73 ratio that I bought new. Now104 thousand miles 167371km and 11 years of Manitoba winters still no major issues. Wish you could see it. It is still like new because I am super fussy about maintenance and rust prevention. I am a retired diesel mechanic I tow a 5500 pound TT. This truck and my TT has been to Alaska, Yukon, California, South Texas numerous times from Winnipeg. I use factory filters and change all fluids early and use synthetic 5w20 in the engine. The engine uses no oil between oil changes (5000 KM interval) when not towing and about a half liter towing from Wpg to McAllen Texas when bucking strong head winds. I plan on keeping this truck for a vary long time. I think any vehicle can be made to last if you are willing to get filthy now and then like Rich.

    Awesome video and I am strongly considering one of these newer (slightly used) F150s with basically this exact setup (but without the aftermarket rims/exhaust because I too am old and also actually like the factory rims :). This video format/theme is really helpful and I think many of the others will appreciate this type of review series on newer used trucks (because the brand new msrp is way outside of the average person's budget).

    I agree with a couple comments I have seen. At least for trucks, a mid range tow test. Also, love to see a comparison between the 5.0 and 3.5 Econoost. My buddy loves his but he’s already had to replace warped manifolds on a completely stock truck which are apparently a pretty common problems. Also had to have the valve body worked on in the 10 speed for flare shifting. It’s a daily driver, never been off road and only ever towed a 14 foot trailer with a UTV on it a few times.

    When you drain the oil, rotate the plug until it releases and then pull it back just far enough to get flow. You can set there and hold it for the entire time your draining it or I've seen guys cut a small piece of pvc pipe that fits over the drain plug just long enough to butt up against the trans cooler and hold the drain plug at the perfect position for a controllable drain. It is a little inconvenient but it beats splattering oil all over the trans cooler and the ground.

      I love the 10R80 in my 18 5L. Silky smooth, and responsive as a straight up mofo. Willing to downshift in ways I've not seen before in an auto tranny, but at the same time in a way that's less annoying when talking gear hunting than it is with most 6 speed auto vehicles. It's really quite impressive. I was looking at a L87/10L80 truck, but the transmission performance compared to 5L/10R80 killed it for me. Leave it GM to tune a truck with 10 gears, and not want to use them, but instead try, and force the engine to lug it's way up to speed. Crazy how different these two transmissions which are identical other than the tune and bell house pattern actually feel.

    I have a 2019 SuperCrew 4wd with the 5.0 and 3.73 gears. 47k miles and factory stock in every way. At 77mph cruise on level ground with no wind I can count on 19.5 mpg. Any headwind at all, though, and it quickly drops into the high 18's. Knock it down to 67 mph and economy jumps to 21.5 - 22 mpg. In town I regularly get 18+ mpg, but I'm pretty chill (my wife says I drive like a 90 year old on Valium).
    With the deeper diff gearing and insanely steep 1st to 5th gear ratios, it's hotrod-quick off the line. Let it eat and it will easily break the tire loose in the first few gears. It also means even the slightest bit of moisture or dust on the road results in low-speed traction issues. It's so comfortable we use it as our road trip vehicle even though my wife has a much better equipped leather-trimmed lux sedan.
    No probs except for the ubuquitous rear leaf spring isolator pop. Isolators were replaced twice under warranty and it always comes back after a while. I just ignore it now.
    Would I buy it again? Absolutely.

    Love my 5.0. 2015 Lariat, SuperCrew Cab (4 full door) FX4 and 6.5ft bed. Only issues I've had with it so far (102k miles, 7 yrs old) are diff pinion seal and transmission/tcase output seal which just started weeping recently, a wire in the heated/cooled seats module (easy fix just had to add another ground to it), and an alternator which seized up after sitting 2 weeks recently, but thats probably because my aftermarket bumper has a spot where the salt can hit the front of the engine which I need to fix. I've done probably 15k of those miles towing trailers from 1500lbs (boats, jetskis, motorcycles, etc - 750kg) to my 24' enclosed with a car in it weighing around 7700lbs (3500kg). No issues with the window seals, still amazingly quiet in the cabin for any car but especially for a pickup at 75mph on the highway. The Lariat does have more sound deadening though I think.
    As for gas mileage, I usually get around 16mpg with all the hills around here, 13 towing the 1500lbs and anywhere from 7.5-9.5 towing the 7700lb enclosed. I get 9.5 pretty consistently towing 7000 (dodge woods truck) on an open trailer, so aero of the trailer really matters. I do 65-70 while towing usually. If I'm driving 65 with no trailer, I can get up to about 23mpg in some areas, but usually more like high 18s to low 19s.
    Pro-tip to anyone who wants to hear these trucks more, get the K&N intake. It's quiet when you're just cruising (same as stock), but SUPER loud inside and out when you put the hammer down. Sounds great but with all the towing I do in northeast US and the hills I'll be pulling a long hill in 3rd gear (6spd) and it got annoying so I went back to stock after around 10k.

      Yes to supercrew with a 6.5 ft bed in the 150 series to be able to carry more than a wheelbarrow does! My 2015 Lariat with the Coyote gets very similar mileage to what you mentioned... almost like it's the same truck ;) 276,000 miles now, and have had some repairs along the way, but nothing really unexpected for the mileage. Both rear wheel seals leaked all over the rear brakes (both the shoes and calipers), trans cooler lines rusted out at the heat exchanger on the front cross member, rad hose o-ring started weeping, and water pump bearings started whining. Only odd thing I would say was a blend door actuator went bad. I love the quiet, smooth (stock suspension) ride as well as the capability towing!

I only have 20,000 miles on it , I have had zero problems. I under coated the truck with Texaco Grease coat when I bought it so the bottom is excellent. I have seen 2021 Chevy frames that look like they have seen several winters and are all rusted. Anybody that has a new Chevy wants to keep track of the ground cable on the frame to cab on the passenger side front. They corrode and will lose ground after only 2 to 3 years and cause all kinds of electrical problems with everything! Personally I have always been Chevy/GMC but was sick of trying to stay ahead of the rust issues.. So far I am loving my FORD.
