also, based on the way these episodes are releasing, I _heavily_ suggest reacting to two episodes at once for the finale of this season. otherwise you'll get to the penultimate episode, and have to wait a whole week before you watch the last one. and trust me, you will hate that.
plus that'd kinda fix the schedule for season 2... the season has 24 episodes, and you watch them in batches of 2 (Friday/Saturday). we started this season awkwardly with just episode 1 on a Saturday, so things won't divide up cleanly, which is a little annoying. in terms of pacing, it would feel much much better to finish season 1 and then wait a week.

It is pretty interesting watching Luke come to the same conclusions right before they happen while reacting. Not to mention he seems to be a bit of a history buff for his region of the world.
I love how they line it all up, like just before it happens you start seeing the path behind where it led us! Just brilliant writing!

just for the sake of saying so... I think both the openings in Vinland Saga season 2 are safe. as are the endings. and I think tonally they go with the episodes incredibly well. I agree with the decision to not watch the opening for this current part of the story... but yeah, this is just information for if you're worried about spoilers in the openings going into the next season.
EDIT: realizing after the fact, there is some potential for visual spoilers in Paradox. I was considering them to be subtle enough to miss, if you don't know what to look for, but if you're worried, you might want to skip Paradox. River is 100% safe though! and all the endings are safe!
Askeladd's little history lesson here is pretty interesting, because it's hard to tell if Askeladd is fully appreciating the irony of it. this English guy absolutely despises Askeladd for what he did... but Askeladd has grievances with this guy's people in general. Askeladd's point is meant to be "therefore, I have a reason to hate you too." but if you turn it around, it's more like "and now, you have a reason to hate me too." because Askeladd chose to make it so. Askeladd has a habit of destroying people's lives, and then trying to act like it isn't personal... but how could it be anything else?
also, you're spot on with Askeladd's intentions for Canute. Askeladd very much does believe in his philosophy, that you should follow a leader that makes you genuinely want to follow them. that's why, when some of his men want to desert him and join Thorkell's side, he doesn't bat an eye. if they want to leave, they can leave. he won't exempt himself from his own standards... Askeladd himself must also prove that he's worth following.
also, what you said about not wanting deserters anyway is pretty interesting, because yeah... if you're surrounded by opportunists who bail at the first sign of danger, you can't count on them anyway. but also, why wouldn't every single one of these men be entirely self serving? Askeladd himself claims to hate the Danes, and only really cares about the wellbeing of Wales. it's not like he's loyal to his men either. Thorkell kills the deserters because they're cowards who would rather fold, and deny Thorkell the fight he's looking for, than lose with their honor intact. Askeladd lets them go because all's fair when it comes to proving your worth.
weirdly... Thorfinn has a similar philosophy when it comes to dueling and defeating Askeladd. he's constantly trying to prove that he deserves his next duel, and he'll know he's succeeded when Askeladd is dead. but until that happens, Thorfinn ends up displaying something startlingly close to loyalty. it's still a hate-based obsession, but his tenacity makes him reliable.
Askeladd totally knows it too. his special skill is that he's been surrounded by shady, horrible men for a very long time. his strategy has always been to stay one step ahead of them. being one step ahead of everything is what's kept his mens' faith in him for so long. Askeladd has to prove himself on their terms. and he's the leader of the assholes, so he knows when they're gonna do what assholes do. nobody's a bigger asshole than him... he's the best at it.
Vinland's second opening has a decent amount of spoiler tbh. At least enough that I wouldn't recommend watching it if you want a blind react.

Askellad was specifically referring to the Celtic tribes of Britain which were conquered by the Roman’s but managed to obtain a great deal of development and technological development as well as philosophical development out of it, including the Christian religion which first came to Britain during Roman rule, the Roman’s eventually left the province during a retreat to save resources(it was expensive to maintain dominion of the place due to the constant barbaric Germanic invasions that plagued the empire at that time) and Britannia was left to its own devices devolving into a patchwork of many petty Celtic Roman kingdoms, this is why in many King Arthur stories which formed during this time there’s always so many kings in Britain since King Arthur was the HIGH king of Britain during this time in the stories(a common organization for Celtic nations was to have many petty kingdoms and a greater nominally recognized High King), historically Arthur or Artorious was probably the recognized romanized Celt Magister Millitum of Britannia and as such held a recognizable authority akin to that of a high king(Roman culture didn’t disappeared when the Roman’s left) and thus he fought against the first Anglo, Saxon and Jute Germanic incursions into Britannia, he would win for a while but a eventually he would fail during a battle as well recorded by many legends and thus during the coming centuries of this period the Anglo Saxon and jute migrations would slowly but surely conquer and push out the Roman celts into the lands known as wales where they were able of mounting a resistance which would become the petty kingdoms of Wales 🏴
Eventually during the 9th century AD the Danish invasions would commence and intensify leading to the Viking age.

The Battle of Hastings was fought between the King of England Harold Godwin, and the norman Duke and future king of England, William The Conqueror. The Anglos, the Saxons and the Jutes (which formed the Anglo-Saxons) were long long "dead" in 1066. You're mistaking that in 1066, England fought 2 wars at the same time, that against the normans and that against Harald Hardrada of Norway. Nothing to do with the past people of Anglos, Jutes and Saxons.
English language is a mix of French (very influential, since the normans that occupied England in future decades past 1066 spoke) and Anglic, wish was a mix of a bunch of dialects.

If you want to make a list of your favorite endings, it sounds like a good opportunity to react to a few more. March Comes in Like a Lion, the last two Golden Kamuy endings, and Ranking of Kings come to mind for ones you really need to do. I'm sure other people have a few in mind as well. You have some great episodes coming up in the next couple of weeks, it's going to be so hard to only watch 2 a week.

you can watch the intro now realistically speaking but you can be totally save by watching it in 2 episodes if you really want to. The one last spoiler is so minor that i wouldn't even consider it one.
My favorite ED's are probably the current ED (from this episode) of VS, JJK S2 ED 1, both Monster ED's, and AoT S2 ED (the really creepy one).

i think the spoilers in the opening doesn't matter in this kind of show because even if you know were the story it's going thats not the important thing or the core of the show.
