    John Lennon once said that even if there never were The Beatles Ringo would have been famous any way. He said he just had that kind of personality. I believe that to be true.

      But Paul said then when ever one of them would let being famous go to their head and start believing they were gods, they looked at Ringo and laughed ... and realised, nah .... we are just mortal men.

    Saw those boys back in the day on a small black and white television. The Ed Sullivan Show. I was in 6th grade. The school was rocking off the foundation the next day. Been a huge fan since. Never will be a band like that again. Literally a miracle those boys came together in space and time to change us forever.

    • @abc456f
      @abc456f 8 років тому +8

      I was in first grade....impossible to convey to younger folks how everything changed...

    • @MissAstorDancer
      @MissAstorDancer 8 років тому +20

      I, too, was in the 6th grade when they first appeared on Sullivan. I don't remember anything about school the next day, but I do remember my Dad getting pissed because I was on the floor right in front of the TV when they came on, and I started screaming and crying, and my Dad said, "If you don't stop that, I'll turn it off!"
      I am so grateful that I grew up during that time. It was such a fantastic joy to look forward to each new single and album, and then to feel the excitement to hear a new song on the radio; to save up my allowance and then wait in line at the record store on the days (or the week) of new releases.........
      There just are not enough words to describe how much joy they brought to my life, and to the world, at a time when we really needed some joy!
      I often think that even they, themselves, could never really understand what it was like for the world of Beatles Fans, because they (The Beatles) just could never have that perspective.
      There is a scene in "Close Encounters....." when the French scientist is trying to explain to the Military brass why the people who came against all odds to witness the arrival, have the right to be there. The dialog goes:
      Laughlin: [translating for Lacombe] I believe that for everyone of these anxious, anguished people who have come here this evening, there must be hundreds of others also touched by the implanted vision who never made it this far. It's simply because they never watched the television. Or perhaps they watched it, but never made the psychic connection.
      Walsh (military brass): It's a coincidence. It's not scientific.
      Lacombe: Listen to me, Major Walsh, it is an event sociological.
      That is what it was with The Beatles.
      :)

    Ringo was so crucial to the band, I feel like a lot of casual fans never realize that. You can see it in this interview: he kept things light, and they needed that, since McCartney, Lennon, and Harrison (the later in particular) could get very heavy.

      Speaking as a (now 70- something) USA citizen:
      Because the early Beatles made such a cheerful, melodic, splash so soon after the shocking assassination of our very beloved young President Kennedy... their joyfilled high energies immediately lifted us baby boomers (of tens of millions of teens and preteens) out of a depression that surely would have negatively impacted the USA.

      his is the best movie I have ever seen.I rate it number 1 ahead of silence of the lambs.It is just shear exhilaration experiencing The Beatles playing live in clear digital format audio and video.
      I saw it at a sold out theatre in York England.The only criticism I have is they only allowed it for 1 night at the Major Cinema chains.The smaller independent art house cinemas were allowed to show it for a few weeks.Looking forward to buying the movie on Blu Ray and Dvd for my family as a present went it is released later this year.
      Sure to be one of the best selling DVD's of all time when it come out.
      Just buy it .The Beatles are up there with Beethoven,Bach,Mozart,Chopin,Schubert,Wagner,Brahms,Stravinsky,Listzt,Rachmaninoff.Sheer perfection.

Then George jumped into the songwriting, and Ringo always played that unique beat. It's hard to explain what leaps the Beatles took, almost on a weekly basis. What a time it was...

    These guys did everything first. Everybody looked to them for how to act and how to sound.
    I’m just now understanding the line from Oliver Stone’s movie The Doors,
    “C’mon Jim, The Beatles did it.”
    Edit: as a kid that wanted to bang on pots and pans, I never realized how significant Ringo actually was either.

    When I was 11 years old, my sister gave me a 1963 Kay guitar that my mother bought her because she wanted one but when she heard me trying to play it, she gave it to me. It was The Beatles that got me into music. All by ear. At 62, I can hardly read music but if I can see a few chords, I can catch on. Lately I've been watching some of the riffs which have been helping me figure out different ways to play & now i'm doing good. I bought a Fender Bass with a Fender Amp for my grandson's girlfriends 13 year old sister. All I said was just keep going. Don't stop playing for anyone & since I have about 16 guitars, I told her I'll give her one of my favorites so she can expand her playing. Hey, freely given to me, so I'm freely giving to someone else. Thanks to the Beatles!!!

    Can't wait to see it! 3 weeks ago I went to Abbey Road and two days later I was in Liverpool at Ringo, Paul George and John's boyhood homes. Back in Nova Scotia now with a Beatles hangover : )

    I think the Beatles should have had a temporary break after Abbey Road and that would have allowed the guys to do their own thing/solo albums like the Rolling Stones did in later years. This would have eased the tensions that were creeping in.
