I love my CrispLid. It has really changed the way I cook. Thanks for including the rice recipe.
Awesome! Thank you for this! I’ve been debating on whether to add a crisp lid or an air fryer to my collection. 🤔 this is helpful!
ok, so this is the first time I have heard of the term 'crisp lid'. I have had a halogen oven for quite a few years, and a pressure cooker very similar to the instant pot (here in the UK main brands are power pressure cooker and pressure cooker xl) for a couple of years. Yes the halogen oven can cook entire meals from scratch, but is best for different types of dishes. Excellent for belly pork, fillets, fish, jacket potatoes, roast potatoes, roast chicken, though I'd strongly recommend starting breast down and then the last 10-15 minutes breast up to finish it off. The cooking time, compared to a regular oven is significantly reduced, and cooking from frozen is also an option. Extra crispy bacon is also a winner, also Roast pork, with cracking is a favourite but you have to watch is closely towards the end as it is easy to over do it. I prefer to use my pressure cooker for 'slow cook' stews in a fraction of the time of a slow cooker, such as brisket, beef casseroles or to quickly cook large joints of meat, which would otherwise take 3 to 4 hours in a regular oven., and have the confidence of knowing it is cooked all the way through, whereas radiant heat takes much longer to get through large cuts of meat.
So in short, pressure cooker for wet dishes, halogen oven for dry roasts.
Just to add, the halogen oven I have has a powerful fan, so it acts as a convection oven circulating the hot air, and the halogen lamp as a grill (broiler in the US?) and 1 hour would be plenty of time in my machine, but as you explain in the video, a few trials will identify the right time for your setup.
The crisp lid is from a company called Mealthy, they have that exact crisp lid, and also sell their own brand Mealthy pressure cooker.
I was wondering if the sky would fall if I used the crisplid without the basket. Great tutorial. Thanks
Thank you, Nili, for this and other great videos. My 3.4 lb whole (organic) chicken with your spice rub turned out fabulous. I used the crisplid only method. I did not pressure cook it first. The chicken was so juicy and not dried out. This is my new method for roasting chicken. I used the juices left in the pot (adding more liquid) to make a very tasty gravy.
I think using the crisp lid to cook a whole chicken takes longer. I’d use the IP lid to cook in less time, then crisp it with the crisp lid.
I usually buy 5.5-6# chickens and have found the optimal cook time and temp in my Paula Deen 8.5 is 350 for 90 minutes. That thigh area is a stinker with these larger chickens but 90 min (45 ea side) makes a tender juicy near fall off the bone experience. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the video. I just bought the air fryer lid. I have a 5.5 lb chicken. I didn't want to pressure cook it first. Thanks for figuring that out. Your awesome
So glad you did this video. We learn by doing, trial and error. Its important to show the good and not so good because it builds trust.
Thanks Christina! I don't get paid by any of these appliance companies so I am free and happy to share my full experience! 😄
Looks fantastic!
I haven't been around lately, haven't seen any of your Crisp lid vids yet... Definitely need to check them out
Thanks for all your efforts, you know we love you!
This looks so good. Try making homemade croutons and pour some of the drippings on top, then serve the juicy chicken on top of a bed of croutons. I buy a loaf of unsliced sour dough bread with a crust, cut it into 1 inch cubes. In a large skillet pour a couple of tablespoons of olive oil, and heat. Add the cubes of bread, toss them until they are medium crisp. You can flavor them with a touch of lemon pepper or garlic salt. Roast chicken goes great with them, and a green salad.
Very interesting. Glad you're experimenting and we get to learn from it. Thanks 😊
Glad you figured it out! The second chicken looks amazing!
Terrific video, thank you for doing all that testing, your chickens looked delicious!
Nili, your chicken rice is fantastic! Made tonight after pressure cooking 2 bone-in thighs in IP 3-qt. I added chopped onions but forgot to saute first, so just threw them in raw. 8 minutes, 8 min quick release, air fried thighs to brown. Sure hope you include the recipe in your cookbook! YUM!!!
Thank you Nili for doing all this experimentation which will save me lots and lots of aggravation.
You did a great job figuring out the cook time for the different sizes... Much appreciated..Just ordered the lid.. & subscribed...
i just air fried a 5 lb bird last night - 380 degrees for 45 minutes, turning it around halfway through. I have a toaster oven type air fryer oven.- 6 quart. It worked well but I thought the skin didn’t get crisp enough. I used rotisserie chicken seasoning from McCormick. It was totally cooked and delicious.
I bought the new Instant Pot Duo SV the other day and so far I am liking it. Only issue it has is that the pin does not drop after the natural or quick release and I just barely touch it and it falls. Haven’t tried the SV yet. It is my 5th IP over the last 3 years. I am getting rid of my Nova Plus (selling it) and I have 2 other inner pots (one in the Lux and I saved the one from my first Duo when the machine died.)
The crisp lid works great with a Cornish hen. First spatchcock the chicken, remove giblets. Season chicken and place breast side down in the wire basket.I use a parchment paper insert but it will work without it. Throw in the giblets. Place cisplid top on top of instant pot and set it at 500f at 5 minutes. Once done remove giblets, turn chicken over ( breast side up) and give it 10 minutes at 400f, then it’s done. It comes out perfect for me anyway.
You don't need to heat up the house with oven! 👏👏👏
Great experiment. Thx
We are at about 3000 ft. so I would need to add about 5 mins. to my chickens no matter what the size. I've found I have to add some mins to your recipes since you are much lower in altitude than we are. Thanks so much for this test- I will definitely be getting a crisp lid! Turn your instant pot into an air fryer-WHO KNEW??!!! I guess you did, Nilli.........
Very well done! Thank you so much for the info! I think this will have to go on my wish list for Christmas.
What about pressure cooking a bit first then using your crisp lid?
Great video. I was wondering how the crisplid worked as an air fryer. After seeing your video, I will consider getting the crisplid over that other big contraption..
Thank you very much. This looks like it will help me. I've been trying to cook wings in my pot and they are so dry and not exactly crispy. Maybe I'm cooking them too high to the burner? I've tried pressure pot then crisplid, frozen with the crisplid. Hot sauce then crisplid. Needless to say I had a lot of wings today. Brother is bringing over quarter legs to test tomorrow. Thank you ♥♥♥
Thank you for your honest video.
TY for sharing this video! Cooking chicken in air fryer comes out better & tastier.
Thanks for doing that now I know.
Excellent video, a great help. Yes, having another insert pot makes things easier. Have you tried cornish hens? They're not available where I am, but think they'd be great with the crisplid.
it looks so good
I so appreciate all the time you take in your videos. Does the light from the Crisp Lid bother anyone, it seems so very bright? Thanks again
No, the light isn't too bright. I think the way the camera shows it makes it look more intense than it really is!
@@IndigoNili Thanks,
I am going to order one today. I have too many IPs now to order another for the crisp feature.. Thanks again.
Great video. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing this!
Great video! Thanks for the information! Love your videos. Cute kids too🌷
Thanks for sharing
Hi.... I saw at HEB Plus....
Instant Pot Ultra 6qt just at 74.50 plus tax... Clearance.... Why?.....
I bought it of course.....
there’s a lot more competition plus some of these are older models. I bought mine for half price and 8 quart it doesn’t have a couple of the features on some of the newer ones but it’s got everything I want. I’ve used it almost every day since Christmas. Just ordered a crisp lid As they sold out during Christmas time. I think the only option i would miss Is the Wi-Fi connection because as you know when you start the Instant pot There’s a warm-up time and then there’s the cook time. I think with the Wi-Fi the app would let me know when it’s done.
TNX for this. Sending link to my KID so she can see what she can do with the toys I got for her. ;-)☝️🤓
Did u let the chicken sit on counter 30 min bf u put it in crisper. Cold meat takes longer than room temp meat
I have a bird that needs defrosting. I'll definitely give this a go. Thanks!
I just cook a whole chicken with the instant pot then crisp it up with the Mealthy. It comes out like a rotisserie chicken but way juicier. When are you going to have your cookbook the Salted Pepper has just released hers.
was the skin crispy as my husband likes it that way
it does sound good though
Thanks for a thorough test.
But would be interested to know if it worked better, partially cooking at pressure and then using the Crisp Lid to finish off.
Greetings from a new IP fan across the pond...
I did it that way in this earlier video 🙂 ua-cam.com/video/xaHcb89Jd6U/v-deo.html
how cooking your chicken in instant pot for 20 min and the rest under the crisplid cook fast but still crisp but chicken not fall apart also you only use half cup water dont drain the liquid just keep it in the pot it
Can crisplid work only on steel pan , without inserting the steel pan in instant pot????
I have a turbo cooker, the lid looks something like that, and it does great on chicken and meat.
It’s not that great with air frying small things. It’s hard to get everything turned. I’ve had this for years.
I’m wanting something that air fries but not sure what to get. I’ve looked at some of the toaster ovens but haven’t decided.
I do have an Instant pot and use it often.
Instant Oven? Takes a lot of space, but has a mesh basket to keep the fries or other small things turning.
So with a 5-6 lb @ 40 min per side at 350 it didn’t burn the skin ?
Looks like it's chicken for supper then 😉👍💟
Did each of these time trials use 350 degrees? Thanks.
could you cook the chicken in the instant pot then switch lids and crisp it up?
Yes! I did it in this video 😊 ua-cam.com/video/xaHcb89Jd6U/v-deo.html
Why not cook it in the instant pot under pressure and finisher with air fryer?
I've done that as well. See this video: ua-cam.com/video/xaHcb89Jd6U/v-deo.html There are lots of great ways to cook chickens.
I would have cooked it under pressure and then used the crisp lid
i bought a mealthy lid to use- did you every do another whole chicken to see if any more time will get it cooked all the way?
Yes, I cooked a second chicken at the end of this video and it worked great
Maybe if the trivet was taller so chicken was closer to the lid for bigger chicken .
Being closer to heat source tends to burn surface (it absorbs a lot of heat fast), and to do that burning before heat really reaches deeper levels. In ovens.
The CrispLid seems to work on the same principles...
i guess i am going to make a whole chicken with the crisp lid
Trust me, we won’t be able to do this with wind and solar 😊
