I don’t like how the judges can critique about something they never specified. “It’s too small.” Then say you want it to be a certain size, and make sure that the canvas wants that/can handle that. But all of a sudden when a canvas can’t handle the tattoo, they’re like “it’s your fault.”
This show heavily prioritises drama and ‘entertainment’ over a fair competition showing off artists skill
If it’s too small for a body part this should be obvious for the tattooer, I don’t think saying it’s too small is a problem. You’ve got to make the tattoo fit as best as it can on the skin you have
Well its a little bit their fault in a way because they pushed the canvas too far its possible
Application is judged too. If you can't put the tattoo with minimal pain, don't tattoo

Conquest is described as riding in with his sword held vertically, if it was tattooed any other way they would’ve had a fit because it would’ve been wrong

I've never disagreed with other judges nearly as much as these ones.
I've been binge watching these, and yeah the judges vary WILDLY between each episode, they'll tear one person's tattoo to shreds and a few episodes later will complement everything that they critiqued on someone else's. Also, there's this werid favoritism thing going on with some contestants and judges.
@@malepatternbaldness. its a bit like the gordan Ramsey situation. People hated how he treated others in hells kitchen but thats because in hells kitchen, the contestants were recognized or self described chefs and he had a point that if your gonna call yourself a chef, you better fucking cook like one.
In this case. Some of the artists showed they could pull off certain things and then would just completly neglect them later on and chris specifically is the only one who talks about this. He hates to see them say pull off great shading and then do a crap job later. Hes about consistsncy and thats one of the most important things for an artist.
Do the judges on Ink Master openly try to be as hypocritical and contradictory as possible haha?

Don’t understand why Oliver said about the horse look strong instead of sickly. The horseman was pestilence/ famine so was matching the rider and theme of disease. The same way the horseman death was the grim reaper and the horse was skeleton to represent the theme of death!

I thought the same thing! It’s much more dynamic to have the horse match the rider somehow.
It was famine, pestilence is another name for conquest.
@@WhaddupDoc yes, sorry. What I meant was, based on different tellings of the 4 horse men, they are either: conquest, war, famine and death or pestilence, war, famine and death. So pestilence is not the same horseman as famine, but is sometimes used instead of conquest.
People always mention how artists show “no concern” for canvases as if the show hasn’t literally done challenges where one person is being tattooed by 4 people at once.
What point were you trying to make? Not trying to be rude just curious because I don't see how being tattooed by 4 people backs the opposing statement to people saying artist show no concern for canvases

idk understand what you’re getting at, but they do have some people come back and the artist can fix their tattoos for free if the person so chooses.
I think the point this person is trying to make is by pointing out that the show itself is irresponsible by making 4 artist tattoo one single person and expect things to go well. Hence why people saying artist seem to have little concern for their canvases is funny, it's not them it's the show.

I would be terrified to be a human canvas in this show cause these artists sometimes forget that they are tattooing actual people that have to live with these for the rest of their lives....
The artists? Seriously? What about those "challenges" where 4 people tatoo on the same person at the same time? It's not the artists fault, lets be honest here
why terrified? chances to get a good tat are not very high, i wouldn't expect more then a fun souvenir...

I like the little wings it suited the client and was super clean
I liked Sausage's angel wing. It looks pretty and looks like an actual wing. Kleen's looks like it was rushed.

I think it’s different when working with one person vs working with multiple. The guys were a team and definitely could’ve pushed and made something better but the girl was on a team with multiple people who all agreed on a style and she was the only one who decided to go do their own thing. In a challenge where it’s supposed to look like 3 different tattoos were made by the same person you can’t just go off and do whatever you want halfway through.

@@oliviaharris9234 I think the reason it feels sexist (even if it isn't in this case) is because Chris Nuñez is notoriously sexist and biased in so many other instances that it's hard to interpret any critique he gives as being genuine.
Oof but Cleens wing did look backwards 😬he’s a great tattoer but he did mess up on that wing in terms of design. That unfortunate the tattoos worked amazing together.
Honestly- it looks a little weird but I can’t see it as backwards. He messed of somewhere definitely but over all great tattoo
@@Dead_Ducky13 if you look at how a wing folds at the wrist the leading edge should be either not seen or towards the outside. both of their tattoos had the leading edge facing the room towards the centre of the spine making the wings look backwards because by anatomy of a wing, you're looking at the inside.

@@Dead_Ducky13 XD it was the first thing i noticed. i've been looking up references for wings of various kinds for stories and also tattoo ideas so immediately i was like, damn. they fucked that up.
Chris is the most biased judge I've seen on any competition show. He has people he likes and people he doesnt and thats 100% how he votes. He just makes up the critique based on his personal feelings for the artist
thanks at least I know that it's not my own biased imagination. Pecker is the same. I find Navarro is the most fair and impartial judge.
Absolutely true. This dude kissed cleen's ass every episode but trashed Kyle's work whenever he could. Not saying cleen was shit. But Kyle deserves a lot of appreciation
They need to start this show back up BUT have the judging done blind, best way to have an HONEST critique

After sitting for an 8 1/2 hours for a spine tattoo- wish I had seen this first!

Its a twist on the art my grandparents made and had in their home when they immigrated.
Like floral neo-tribal.
I drew it all myself! Every flower has a meaning. But its basically solid black shapes and designs.
In all honestly it was likely worse pain/placement wiss than anything these people got. The spine was a dumb idea in one sitting!
I slept for 13 hours the next day and the healing process was worse than my sleeve or leg.
Very happy I did it in one sitting, but it was mentally and physically draining. Packed black on your spine is a new kind of pain! First tat I almost tapped out!
My artist allowed gummie bears and I really think that helped me keep my blood sugar up and get through it.
Good luck if you're thinking about it! Painful but totally worth it! ✌

Cleen made it to the finale 3 times, was runner up twice, winner once and this was the only time he didnt make it to the finale because he got eliminated to early
That one judge always gets me, the way he went from complimenting the horse but then caught himself being “too nice” so he had to find something to insult even though his “criticisms” weren’t even good ones

A grey cloud is not happy and cheery. Could have used more fade out or edge definition, but all.of them go together.
I understand why Oliver isn't shown in these clips but leaving his voice in just has Chris arguing to a void. If you're going to cut him out then cut him out entirely.

I agree, but then you couldn't show these clips anymore because he's been so important during the show. This looks very awkward though, I agree with that, it's just thay I wouldn't know a better way to resolve this

I love James Vaughn. If I had to sit for a long session, he sounds like he'd be fun to spend the day with.
Seriously, it is hit or miss for those canvases.
I'm new to this, but narrating the voice that says: "the judges have decided this person wins" being a judge itself, is some hella weird production decision making.

In this condensed form, watching the judges, their favouritism and " judging" of the compositions. They act like they're like Gods artist team, and they have the awnswers to whats a good tattoo, where i've never ever seen a Nunez or Peck tatoo on this show ever, not once, I wonder why.
YES, also. their critique varies wildly between different people/tattoos and there is obvious favoritism

8:40 the way he executed his version of the "Pearly Gates" looks like pathway stones. It has nothing that makes it look 3D or show ANY depth, so if never knew that that was supposed to be the gate if I saw it without any explanation. I would think paver stones or just some random pattern to end the tat.
I think Al's back cross was amazing.
the bottom of it was so muddy though, like you couldn't even tell it was wood grain anymore, it just looked like a black twisted mess to me

Am I crazy or do these compilations never show the judge Oliver? I can hear him but it NEVER shows him. Did he do something horrible to get removed from these videos? It has no problem showing Chris and that Chili Peppers dude but Oliver has been systematically removed from all compilations.
I’ve read from other comments that he did black face many years ago on My Space and the pictures resurfaced which led to him being kicked off the show.

Well the clients should be accepting that because they AGREED to be part of this!... it's a competition...if they want it easy just go to a tattoo shop or smth
@@noone8459 They didn't agree to poor bedside matter. Every aspect of tattooing is taken into consideration this competition, including the ability to make your client comfortable when possible. If the artist can't do that, then they aren't doing the competition right.

I don’t have a lot of respect for the judges, but I love some of the art. That’s why I watch these 😁 over a couple of these compilation vids they’ve lost my respect.
Ok. DJs great, don't get me wrong, but I hate the way he always tries to change the rules and then attempts to justify it by basically saying he's rewriting the rules. Another example is the accuracy challenge featuring the octopus. (Like oh theyre supposed to go together but looking like 1 artists did them would be weird)

The video editing with all that grins and bully smiling is so evil... it depicts a world without artist brotherhood, real tats but fake personalities... hope it will grow from this US arrogant tv format.
I was just thinking how I would love to see a Great British Bake Off equivalent of this show, where everyone is lovely and supportive, and the funny hosts provide comic relief when the pressure gets to the participants. 💅
Oh god yes, the editing on this show is SO shady. I remember an episode where this one girl wins tattoo of the day, and if you look in the corner you can *clearly* see the other girl looking happy for her as the announcement is made, but then in the next shot it shows the happy girl looking all jealous and pissed.
The editing is so horrendous, they do it simply to create drama, one time they had Sarah smiling in the background of someone winning a challenge and then later they added a clip of her looking mad to make it seem as though she was upset. It’s weird tbh

I love how their whole thing is testing the artists to see if they're worthy of being ink master, but most of these challenges are absolutely never something they would do in the real world. Who in their right mind would get tattooed by 4 people at once.

Because the difference is that Nikki was in a team challenge where they’re judged based on it looking the same. It was the same thing they told them with the four horsemen tattoos. Jesse and Sausage didn’t have to match tattoos because they weren’t being judged together. They’re judged individually and just worked on the same canvas.
