- It’s not often that artists are given free rein on Ink Master, so when they are allowed to tattoo whatever they want, it can go very well… or very badly. Here are tattoos on both ends of the spectrum.

Every tattoo needs to be blind judged. Dave is the only one that is fair. Chris and Oliver judge based on what person they like, not the tattoo.
Chris almost ALWAYS favors Cleen, and since Cleen has been in like 3 seasons, it give bias to competitors.
@@hollowice999 Nuñez also worked with Cleen in the 90s and early 2000s, it's referenced in early seasons before he came on the show.

I think it may be possible only in the beggining of the show when the judges don't know each artist style, after while, they may figure out. Maybe different judges each challenge could help.

To his credit, I don't doubt he's a great Polynesian artist. In other styles, he just doesn't excel.

Roland may not be the best artist but it was still a little disrespectful to say anyone could do tribal and not know the difference from Tibetan and Polynesian like when you're trying diss someone it's better to have your facts straight

Also? As someone from New Zealand (though I'm not Maori) his 'Polynesian' tattoo didn't look remotely polynesian to me except for maybe the overall shape of it. If I hadn't known what style he was going for, I would not have said it was Polynesian even a little bit.
@@lexdraws1729 I mean it’s certainly the easiest type of tattoo aside from very simple symbols like hearts lol. Actually doing the tattoo is extremely easy the only difficult part is actually knowing the meaning behind the tattoos and designing them.
The way Juan comforted that girl while she was in pain was actually really sweet. "It will hurt a little bit today but you will have an amazing tattoo forever" That would've definitely calmed me down and helped me ride it out.
The way Dave always looks so happy to tell someone they don’t have what it takes to be Ink Master gets me every time.

Sometimes he looks serious when he says it. It gets me when he gets ready to say it and the artist thanks everyone for the opportunity etc; Dave looks annoyed .
For the Venetian mask, the answer was easy. Go for a plague doctor vibe. Get the horror aspect right off the bat.

There is a type of venitian mask that is just a black circle with eye slits. That would be pretty funny if someone did that. It kinda looks uper interesting in paintings actually.
Yes! The moment he said he wanted a horror vibe that was my first thought. He could have easily incorporated flames into that as well so it had some color. I am a Halloween and horror Gothy McGoth and I wouldn't want the tattoo he ended up with.

I don’t think I’m mistaken in thinking that Dave is the sexy mascot of the show. He’s not bias. His criticism is quick and concise and his praise is genuine

I think the problems were more because it didn’t have a lot of strong outline in order to ground it so fundamentally it’s going to age poorly
Polynesian tattoos are a right of passage for young men. Each tattoo represents the family, tribe etc and tells a specific story. The fact that all these people getting meaningless Polynesian tattoos is insulting

Yeah and another thing happened in season 10 with Chris and Josh - in the first episode of season 10, Chris votes for Garrett to go home, stating that he’s the “cut judge” and whoever cuts the skin goes home. Cut to a later episode, Josh cuts his canvas and he doesn’t go home. He’s seems to be fair sometimes but most of the time he’s biased and it’s wack

I love that for the 12 hour tattoos there were only female human canvases. They can sit through the pain and one of them was sleeping

I don't have any tattoos and obviously couldn't tell a good one from a bad one. I just really enjoy watching these clips because EVERYONE is such a tool.

Nunez wouldn't agree to it. His head is too big. Even though I feel he was the worst tattooer on Miami Ink who wasn't an apprentice.

They’ve done that. They had guest judges who did tattoos for six hours against the artists. One was a Jesus tattoo and the other was a koi tattoo
@@LdyVder I dont think miami ink is a good representation of his work. First off it’s a TLC reality show more about the life of tattooers instead of focusing on tattoo art. Second everything they did was walk in flash pieces. Lastly it aired in the 2000s and both technology and artistry has improved a lot since

All 4 of the last tattoos shown were absolutely immaculate & beautifully done, but in terms of personal preference I’d much rather wear Jason’s or Josh’s. I would be SO proud to wear either of those for life. But I bet all 4 canvases were fully stoked. Great job dudes.
Im always confused how some of these tattoo artists, have the most unrecognizable, ugly sleeves on themselves...
They usually got their first round of tattoos when they're young and inexperienced. Their tattoos on their body vs the work they do on other people shouldn't be compared

Even when I think I know what to look for. I'll be like, "The linework looks a little shaky." And the judges will be like "Super clean lines."

I really liked the bird. I think it was quite beautiful. It definitely feels like they are judging more off personal bias. there wasn't anything atrociously wrong with it. Simple, sure... But accurate and beautiful. Not everything has to scream at you to be good.

The guy who did the ship tattoo I thought was awesome. To make it look like a painting and I think would be hard to tattoo like that. He seems very talented
I can’t help but wonder how many fashion trends the judges set during the airing of this show…especially Dave. You know people saw what he wore and ran out searching for it the next day.
😭 this show is makin me even more unsure about getting tattoos. Anybody can have a bad day.
Don't use this show as a gauge. A lot of it is straight up nonsense. Trust me. Most tattoos don't take 4.5 hours, which is normal time for their flash challenge. 6 hours is a long time and most artists don't want to tattoo that long. It's bad for their back to be leaning over someone for that long of a time period.
I got a coverup that took up almost my entire upper outer right arm. Between my artist looking at the stuff I brought him so he could draw up the design to him finishing it up took less than 2 hours. I joked with him by saying, this was supposed to take six hours.
Honestly, I want to see a lot of these tattooers work after the tattoo has healed. Which you rarely get. A tattoo can look good when freshly done then look like shit once healed because the tattooer didn't do it right or the client didn't properly take care of it while it was healing.
One of my tattoos get half of my arm, took 3 hours to get. There are blow outs and jacked up lines but no one noticed unless you put a magnifying lens on it hahaha the important thing is to trust your artist, sit still and do a LOT of research before choosing. In the end even if it's not perfect, if you're passionate about what it represents you're gonna love it. Don't worry
Research the philosophy of “wabi sabi”. If you cant relate or just don’t agree, tattoos MAY not be for you?

A little late to the party but... I really did not like Josh's frog tattoo. It's a nice design and well executed, sure. But I feel like traditional cultural tattoos are something you don't "modernize". The judge saying "You pretty much bring traditional Japanese into the modern era." Like... what? It's not traditional at all. It's just a modern tattoo with a Japanese flair.

Man, some of these artists. If you don't have the creativity to even TRY to picture what the canvas/client is explaining then why even be a tattoo artist?? "No one on the planet has done something like that" Well yeah. That's the point of art. It's supposed to be original and creative.
