I hate when the artists say that it cant be done and then the person getting the tattoo says "yes it can" like they know everything about giving tattoos.
It’s very strange. The person who does the job everyday says “this isn’t possible in that amount of time” and the canvas is like “no, I don’t care, rush it, cut corners, just do it” then they whine if the tattoo is unfinished or lacks certain details they wanted 🤦🏽♀️

Not only that, but the canvas doesn't seem to realize that this ISNT the shop. It doesn't matter what happens outside the competition; he's getting a free tattoo that has to fit a predetermined theme with a time limit and he still bitches about it lol

Being a canvas on this show is like entering a raffle to be tattooed anything.
@@commanderwaddles3483 its not just "anything" though. They are given a style or aspect of tattooing to hit in their tattoo and the customer ultimately decides what the image is. The judges will heem you for thinking the customer isnt right. Their job especially as Ink MASTER key word MASTER is to make compromises and be able to work to make their customer pleased.

You are totally right. Especially those who are like “You can do this in 6 hours” when in reality what they are wanting is a 15 or more hour tattoo and it always ends up being unfinished.

if the canvas wants a certain tattoo then PAY for it like everyone else. it’s most likely better quality and the artist is not working against the clock.

Some people don't understand that the idea they have in their head isn't possible in a tattoo they must work with the artist because they know how the tattoo will look what will and won't work etc especially in a time frame your going to get a free tattoo in 6 hours your design might be a 30+ hour tattoo not possible to do in 6 hours and they need to understand that

But they put them all in 1 idea which, like you said, will take a looooot of time and work etc., which then again wont fit into the limited time and theme they have for these Episodes :/

These canvasses are like "I want a full colour newschool mariachi band playing Cotton Eyed Joe on my ribs... and I want the guitar to be shaped like Beyonce and I'm not willing to change anything"
And then they get mad when they get a bad tattoo or they're in pain because the artist is stressed out and rushing so they're not being the most gentle.
You have to be willing to compromise on something because you have no idea what artist you're gonna get and whether or not they can give you what you want.
I would rather leave with a good tattoo thats pretty than a bad tattoo thats exactly what I wanted
it's hard to get as a first timer. everyone thinks 'it's on me forever' & doesn't want to give up control on the piece. Key is finding an artist you can trust, if their whole portfolio appeals to you, just give them an idea and let them make a totally unique tattoo for you. So glad I found an amazing artist who suits my vision

Every time I see a clip of sausage his getting he’s patience tested by canvasses and other contestants, him saying how’s he a new man of faith explains it all, kinda sad how everyone tried to exploit that.
The canvases just hear "free tattoo" and forget there are limitations. Time, pain tolerance, the challenge. If you want to be a blank canvas for a tattoo artist, this is the show for you. Not people who just don't want to pay for a tattoo
And then there is me who got her hair cut all wonky because I was too socially anxious to correct the hair dresser. Totally blows my mind to see people like this. I envy their confidence in a way.
Me too! I walked into a tattoo shop wanting a very small tattoo and walked out with a huge one on the back of my forearm with something I didn’t even want. I really wish I had learned to be more assertive before that happened lol.

even scott admitted that sausage is a ink master at 7:04 sausage was able to work with his canvas and if sausage acting like gentle jay with his canvas, his canvas would’ve walked out. sausage is one of my favs he is so humble and calm and jus a great guy in general.

Anthony is my favorite official ink master. However if the judges made the right choice season 4 and picked sausage instead of Scott it would have been a tie for my favorite.

16:55 when I got my left calf tattooed, the same thing happened to me and I wasn't purposely flinching. I think it was due to some weird muscle spasm in my calf. I don't think she was purposely flinching, sometimes it can do that with the calf depending on the person and pain tolerance.
It’s the muscle fibers when pressure is being applied to the legs or like in tattooing where the needle is rapidly hitting a certain spot and the nerves force the legs to twitch. There’s a name for it I can’t remember but that’s what the artist told my OL when she got her upper thigh done right after we met but it’s involuntary and most people don’t realize it happens until they get a tattoo
My thighs did the same thing. I tried so hard not to flinch, but the closer it got to my pelvis, the harder it was not to lock up.

Yeah I got my inside right calf done and it was so painful and I could feel my leg jumping and spasming no matter how hard I tried to keep my body relaxed. The body is going through major trauma when getting a tattoo, so the muscles for sure are going to flinch, it happens and most artists are understanding that it’s unavoidable at times, especially the longer a tattoo goes on.

I think an interesting twist to this competition would be to see the judges tattoo...and the jury of peers do a blind judge to pick best tattoo of the day...to earn a skull pick that the winning judge can award to any one they want...

seriously. if i was getting a free tattoo, i'd come in with a general idea and let the artist have their way with it. i think that's how you'd get the best result from being a canvas on this show.

People are insanely self centered. Especially when someone who has a ego becomes a winner by being selected to go on the show. I'm a tradesmen and trust me the customers that get free stuff(because our sales department offered), tend to take that inch, and run a mile with it.
The producers specifically pick people like that so it’ll create drama. I’ve filled out the canvas application before they ask how you’ll be in that regard.
They don’t want all perfect, non dramatic people

Ryan's canvas seems fun. She also backed off when Ryan told her it wouldn't work so she seems reasonable, just sort of eccentric
Yeah, she understood that Ryan was looking out for herself as a contestant and making sure the canvas was pleased.
At least she thought about it and decided to not do the names and did it just for Ryan to win. Overall she seems chill as hell.
And still got a cool tattoo out of it

I don't think Fon's canvas was being difficult. He was polite and knew what he wanted. I think Fon got in his own head and just didn't know what to draw. Just out of his comfort zone and it sadly really showed.

Those dudes that are like "Is this how you would treat a customer in your own shop?" Yes, it is. If an artist is not comfortable tatooing what you want, they will send you on your way. That's just how it is. Most would rather not force a tattoo on you that you'll be upset with and deal with how you feel about it.

Here's the bottom line: I know they set it up the way they do for the occasional added bit of drama for the show. I think it would be so much more of a valid competition if the canvases were just that; a CANVAS. Not a client that can expect to get their input taken seriously, and expect to get exactly what they want. If that's who you are, and what you want is complete and total control of your tattoo, then you need to find an artist you like and PAY THEM. All canvases on this show should be completely open to getting whatever the challenge calls for, from any artist. It's also probably a good idea to realistically evaluate your pain tolerence, to make sure you can handle 6 hours of an artist aggressively tattooing ambitiously sized tattoos; especially when it's on the ribs, elbow, armpit, etc...

What I don’t understand is how these canvases fail to see that artists will not win if the tattoo is bad. Neither of them want a tattoo to bad. So why would someone not listen to “this will send me home”.
I think it's cos none of the artists have the balls to say, "If you want me to do this, it will turn out as a bad tattoo." No one wants to admit that maybe they are producing bad work. The artist word it as "send me home" but they 100% should say, "Your bad idea is going to result in a bad tattoo."

I know it's a competition yet some of these artists do things on purpose to get others kicked off and in the end the canvas could end up with a bad tattoo. It's a competition but you also can't purposely screw the person getting the tattoo.
It’s a competition first. You are not paying for a tattoo. Beggars can’t be choosers
I've seen some people say that the customer (or Canvas in this show) shouldn't be forced to get a Tattoo they don't want. And that is absolutely true when it comes to tattooing. The problem is, these individuals willingly signed up for a reality TV show and knew the limitations before participating.
The fact that there is a time limit and contest limitation - means these folks should absolutely be willing to work wtih the Tattoo artist, and make compromises. In certain cases, the artist knows what is best in terms of their skin tone, or knowing what is possible within the time limit.
Often these Tats end up looking awful, but could have been great if the canvas had listened to the artist and allowed them to pivot to make something slightly different. But NOPE they want 1:1 what they asked for. Again, that is fine for a paying customer going into a shop.
But these idiots are getting tattoos for free, and are going out of there way to sign up for the show. So they really have no business being this stubborn. I also feel the usual tattoo ethics shouldn't really apply here, because again - this is a tv show/contest, that these individuals are willing participants in. Its not a normal situation.
This really should be a collaboration. If you are going to apply to be on Ink Master, you should go into the contest knowing you will be paired up with an artist - and you should want to collaborate with them. If you don't want that kind of Tat (which is completely understandable), then don't go on the freakin show!

As a painter I understand the tat artists' feelings when customer asks them wierd or cheesy stuff. 🤣 and the annoying feeling when they are controlling and nagging
In most situations outside the show the customer has the right to be as picky and weird if im paying to have art commissioned it better be what i want

The guy didn't even ask for something too hard, a horse riding a guy sounds like the kind of stuff you'd want to do for a wicked tatt.

It's a shitty idea, but aside from that, it would be different if the shit wasn't both free, and timed. You want something insanely specific, go *pay* somebody to do it, the way you want it, and not have to rush or worry about certain things for the competition.
I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking about it. I am not a tattoo artist but I am sure I can come up with a drawing a lot better than what he did. But I'll be honest, I'm not into the idea either.

I'll never understand how people that aren't tattoo artists turn around to them when they get told that there huge detailed tattoo can't be done in 6 hours with an "I think it can"
Cause they're cheap and now these huge detailed tattoos they want would sometimes cost them thousands of dollars and so they're gonna force their chance to get it for free

I misunderstood what Matti was saying about the dinosaur tat. When he said he had to tattoo a dinosaur with a TV on top of Jack Skellington... I thought the dinosaur was going to be sitting on Jack Skellington and was so disappointed when it wasn't exactly that. But now I realize he was calling the canvas "Jack Skellington" because he was so skinny. But damn, dinosaur sitting on top of Jack Skellington would have been an awesome tattoo!
I thought that too at first, I was like “Wait Jack Skellington isn’t on this tattoo what the hell is he talking about” and then I realized he was talking about how skinny the canvas was.

What drives me crazy is when the canvases argue what is feasible or possible given the time constraints. “WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CANT GIVE ME A FULL SLEEVE WITH DETAILS, PERFECT LINES, AND GOOD SATURATION IN 6HOURS??? It must be because you suck!”
And of course it’s always from canvases with like no tattoos or rlly cheap/poorly done tattoos lol
