- We're officially on the road! And our first stop: the Texas Panhandle for some final 100 degree adventures! We visited Palo Duro Canyon (a HUGE Texas gem!), Cadillac Ranch, went to an awesome coffee shop, and had incredible tacos in Amarillo.

Hi y'all! We’re Adam and Kathryn, an adventurous married couple living in a Sprinter van! You can often find us scoping out the best coffee shops, eating tacos, climbing mountains, cuddling our fur child Kona, and dreaming about Hawaii.
We created Adventures of A+K to help busy, budget conscious, and adventurous travelers maximize their vacation time and money wherever they go through detailed travel guides, vlogs, and resources. Our goal: to help you spend less time (and stress!) planning your trip and more time enjoying it!

Just found y’all while searching van life videos! I live in Amarillo. People either drive through or skip us all together. It’s a quirky and interesting town if you really stay and look around! I’m so glad y’all highlighted the things you did. YCSF and its sister restaurant, Six Car Pub, are my favorite places to eat in town. Tyler’s BBQ is great too if you find your way passing through again. We are a coffee, food, and art focused city, which people don’t really know about! So thank you for your fun profile of our city!
This makes us so happy! Our goal is to highlight the well known and the lesser known cities all around the US (and even the world!) and we were really impressed with the food, coffee, and nature in and near Amarillo. It definitely doesn’t get enough love and we’re so glad to highlight it! We will 100% try Tyler’s BBQ next time 😋

Great video guys! So fun to see your adventures begin! I love how you have a mix of van stuff but also really concentrate on the travel aspects too! Looking forward to more adventures! We made it up to Rainier this weekend but the clouds came in as headed up the mountain and the peak was not visible. Now we will have to go back!
Thank you Kate! Our goal is to do somewhere around 80% travel and 20% about the van, but I’m sure we will mention the van more at first since it’s so new to us! That’s such a bummer about Rainier...we know that feeling allll too well lol! 🤣😭

Been slowly making it through all your videos & finally made it to this one! My husband and I hiked the lighthouse trail last year and took the wrong, hard way up too so I had to laugh a little to know we weren’t the only ones who did! Love all your videos and looking forward for all the future adventures!

Been thru Amarillo when we traveled Route 66. Did not stop at the Cadillac Ranch but it was on our to do list, not sure why we didn't stop. If you're ever in NE, need to see Carhenge up by Alliance. Pretty cool but don't bring any spray paint! ; )
Ooo Carhenge looks SO cool! And while the spray paint look is pretty fun and colorful, it causes SO much littering 😖
Fun Fact #2: there is another state park about 100 miles southeast of Amarillo called Caprock Canyons that is a part of the same canyon system as Palo Duro. Not as big, but still pretty impressive.
We may be going there very soon! Super excited!
Amarillo is nice but Palo Duro is awesome. We made the same mistake at the picnic area, my wife cried on the way up as she worried how best to get down & it was nearly dark. Also check out Adobe Walls near Stinnett.

Definitely not a bad thing at all! 😄 We love us some good vegan food. But it’s definitely a huge stereotype that all people who live in a van are vegan, which we are aren’t.
Fun fact: that is not the original location of Cadillac Ranch. It was originally about a mile east of its current location. The city was encroaching on the original location, so they move it a mile down the road!

I’m from Lubbock! We go to Palo Duro allll the time. Get scary hot in the summer though
It was brutal at first!!! Thankfully the sun started to set. You’re so lucky to have such a gem so close to you!

What... you guys probably drove right through Lubbock! I'm from Lubbock, which is considered the hub of the west Texas area. If you are ever in the Lubbock area, I highly recommend stopping by Evie Mae's BBQ. Also Yellow House coffee is a small and cozy coffee shop with great coffee! Their ribs and brisket are great! Their jalapeno cream corn is great, but avoid their potato salad!
Thank you so much for the recommendations! We stopped near Lubbock on our drive down from Colorado a few weeks back, but got there late and couldn’t do anything 😭. We will be driving this route a lot in and out of Texas, so we will definitely check that out!
If you aren’t into rock climbing, start!! There are tons of areas around the United States that you can do it:)!
Also I know your from Seattle so make to come visit us back north to go skiing ;)
Also how comfortable is your bed? Honestly.? Haha looks nice but comparison to your bed at home?
We tried indoor bouldering once and thought it was super fun! We wish we would’ve done that more. Would’ve helped us on this hike 😅. And we are headed north now, but unfortunately not for winter. We’re still weenies about driving in the snow without AWD lol!
It’s actually super comfy! It’s not too smushy like memory foam can be and we have slept super well so far. The only negative is we keep parking on sloped ground so we aren’t sleeping very level. But we’re loving that it’s bigger than our bed was at home, so that makes it win for us lol!

It can definitely get cold and really windy! I'd check the weather forecast before you go and be prepared for any kind of weather
Can you hike down to the bottom of the canyon or is it top viewpoint only?
Yes I believe there is a trail or two that will take you to the bottom of the canyon
Lol nobody calls Amarillo the Yellow City (or Bomb City) except newbie hipsters. Old timers just say Amarillo, or Amarilla, or The Rilla.
Very cool. What was your budget on the van ?
We wanted to spend $18K on the conversion, but it ended up being $23K. Oops. Lol! The van itself was around $55K after taxes/fees 😊
New Subscriber. We are going to Palo Duro in November. We will have to try Yellow City. We are actually a burger family, but I will never turn down a good taco meal. How new all ya'll to road tripping? We aren't full timers but we love camping and try to go often. We also have started a UA-cam. We would love for you to go check it out.
We hit the road full time over a year ago! And minus the holidays and three months at the beginning of covid, we have been on the road. We hope y’all enjoy Palo Duro! 🙌🏼
You can stay at Walmart parking lots
Not all of them allow it, but if we are in cities with locations that do allow it (and there is no free nature option), we sleep at them. We prefer rest areas and Cracker Barrels over Walmarts though, as they feel safer to us.
