    Thanks for one of the few reviews on the Condor Messer. I appreciate the fact that you admit right up front that you’re basically an amateur when it comes to swords and their handling. My situation isn’t much more evolved. My older brother studied under a sword master and I was instructed by him when he showed me later. There was the sword fights with crazy friends and relatives over the years as well. There were plenty of cuts, bruises and hospital visits but, most of us can handle a sword better than most. I’ve been thinking about the Messer as a possible weapon but I’m much older now than I was in my sparring days and many work injuries and brawling has taken a toll on my body so I’m no longer entirely confident in my strength and speed to wield a two hander. Instead, I’m thinking of the Honshu D2 Gladius but thanks for word on another sword that I liked. Skol….

    I can second this recommendation. Had mine about 6 months and sharpened it shaving sharp. Cuts like a beast. No distal taper so it's definitely better on firmer targets than pool noodles, but I think, all in all, a good blade for a great price.

    I had one around 2 years ago. It also couldn't be called sharp and it was very difficult to even get it out of the scabbard.
    I was recently looking at its smaller sibling.

    Nice review! They’ve got a very fine edge geometry on this blade, full flat ground from the spine, which is something certain tacticool “sword” makers can never get right. The edge sharpness comes as expected for Condor, I never find any of their products having the final sharpening sone right even though it’s not hard to put on a razor edge yourself. The PoB seems a bit far on this kriegsmesser, 7” perhaps? Maybe the lack of a solid steel contributed to that. It seems that they put on a half distal taper on the blade, I’m sure a full taper would improve the handling as well.

      Thanks! It was definitely very ready for that final edge to be put on. I think I could have done it even with my poor sharpening skills, but I'd been looking for a blade to have sharpened by the local guy to see how good he is at it, and this seemed like a good bet.
      I forgot to actually measure the PoB. It feels to me like it's about as far out as it can be without ruining the balance. I imagine changing the pommel to steel would help bring that back, as would starting the distal taper a little sooner.
      An interesting comparison is the Albion Knecht. According to a post on My Armoury, it starts at 8mm thick at the guard, tapering down to 2mm thick. That's a pretty drastically different blade geometry than this one, and one that I bet is much livelier.

      This is the second place I've seen where it's called as a full flat grind, but if you put a straight edge against it, you'll find its a convex profile (well, mine is so I guess they all are""?""). I personally prefer that profile anyway, more meat (niku) behind the edge .

      @@Erebus.666. In the world of swords, there's no such thing as "full flat ground" as in knives' term, there will always be some apple seeding near the edge or niku along the bevel. Flat and convex are relative terms. Even sword bevels we describe as having almost zero niku are not a straight line from the spine to the edge--it's not practical on swords. On knives, that's feasible for some applications, never on swords.

    To keep the sword from slipping out of the sheath , take a little strip of duck tape and insert it in the side of the throat of the sheath don't use to much and stick it in use something like a pocket knife and smooth it down then see if it slips out if it holds the sword securely but not sticky and not hard to pull out then it's perfect.

    Might want to take some Mothers Mag and try to polish the hilt and other metal parts to less plastic looking.

    I own one, love her for the price, but i wouldve gladly paid an extra $100 for some distal taper. Good design and steel, but the lack of taper makes her kind of unwieldy.

      More distal taper would definitely make it a more agile blade.

      @@SkyForgeVideos If I was skilled enough with a belt grinder to add more distal taper without ruining the heat treatment, sure. Considering I'm quite bad at putting an even edge on a blade, though, it's far more likely I'd just completely ruin the geometry.

    Messer would be better if it lost 500g in weight, with wider fullers and more distal taper will make all the difference.
    Seems worth the money 👍. Condor built the messer to machete dimensions by the looks of things?

      Yeah, not really surprising that the blade geometry is more akin to a machete, considering that's what Condor is mostly known for.

    It's strange, the variation in some pieces. For example, my scabbard seems better put together, leather actually glued down, but sword sits looser than yours. Also, the blade. Your one "seems" to have a full flat grind, whereas my one is appleseed in profile and is shaving sharp. I guess that's what you get with factory produced items. Still, love cutting with mine, it's an absolute laser. PS. I also hate the finish on the guard. It'll be coming off soon.
